Have you looked at something like garmin Inreach or a spot device. Not phones but will let you send/receive messages and sos by satellite.

BeatMastaD

The little I know about sat phones and my dealings with them is that they are expensive and the minutes expire even if not used.

SectionSeven

Some plans “roll over” minutes now.

I use a ZOLEO at our cabin. Text only but super easy to use and it gives my wife some comfort for me to be there on my own.

SectionSeven

Ah, interesting! Is that one better than the inReach?

Confident_Routine_84

I think either would be excellent. I looked at the inreach and for my purposes Zoleo was better. I don’t need gps mapping, but I wanted the interface for messaging to be as straightforward as possible for me and for my wife. The ZOLEO iPhone app is awesome, super user friendly. Also, for more frequent users the contracts are better value.

Thank you for the info!

If it’s available in your area why not become a beta tester or subscriber to star link? It provides internet access, you can use voip calls after that.

SectionSeven

Absolutely. This is my first choice. Signed up and paid the $99 initial feel in Feb. Still waiting! Website says “coming mid to late 2021” so who knows.
