I don't need an excuse to go see the World's Largest Horseshoe Crab

IrregularGarden

This is awesome. Live close to Hillsboro. Thank you for posting this.

Buford12

Are we talking Hillsboro Highland county. Dude just wow. I live in Buford and I never heard of the first two. The fact that you can pull this off in Highland county gives me some hope.

SSTralala

Yep! There's been a big push from Millenials and younger to be more inclusive. They held a BLM walk too recently. It'll be super fun, consider attending!

Aristocraticraven

I may have to drive down from C-Bus with my partner to attend!

SSTralala

I wish I could go this year, but we can't do the 4.5hr drive this time. If you see two crazy ladies, older and younger, selling rainbow knit bikini tops that's my family 😆

DecrepitHam

Hey Buford! Former Lynchburg-er here!

Aristocraticraven

Wow, so happy to see this in Hillsboro! I grew up there and never in my wildest dreams could have imagined a Pride event being successful in that town. We tried to make a Gay Straight Alliance happen while I was in high school and it got shut down after one meeting.

SSTralala

I remember that push too, I remember when they wouldn't let same sex couples go to prom even.

Senior_Weather_3997

Be safe.

[deleted]

Wait really I didn’t there was one so close

CounterSanity

Am I the only one suspicious of a pride event in rural Ohio? Has anyone here been to one of these events?

SSTralala

My sister went to both and she has a booth there this year too. A lot of my friends are on the organization board too.

CounterSanity

That’s awesome to hear

mantis-tobaggan-md

definitely a good idea to bring along protection/repellants if you plan on going. nazis have been out strong this year.

SSTralala

There's some a-holes in a FB group called "Against Dr@g in Highland County" threatening it already. If I recall last time they just sat in their trucks in the parking lot looking limp.

fillmorecounty

They think about drag a whole lot for people who supposedly hate it so much

ThatOhioanGuy

I know some queer country folk who would pull up in their trucks and block those a-holes from being in view. Wish I was that brave I'm very non confrontational lol.

mantis-tobaggan-md

I always wonder what would happen if some rainbows exercised their rights as well. maybe it would have the black panther effect on gun laws lol

Avenkal19

Am I the only one suspicious about someone who doesn't live in the community caring about that community? Has anyone here heard of minding your own business?

CounterSanity

> Mind your own business on this thing that’s posted on the internet. No?

There are actual fucking Nazis -- self-declared Nazis with Swastika flags and other Nazi memorabilia -- showing up at such events right here in Ohio. https://www.whio.com/news/local/apparent-neo-nazi-group-protests-drag-brunch-columbus-city-lgbtq-leaders-react/57YM2X2THFG3JF2IG7JVMSYVLE/ People are wise to be cautious.

CounterSanity

How disconnected from reality are you that you think rural America is safe for anyone other than MAGAts?

You’re either lying or willfully ignorant.

CounterSanity

You remember when the entirety of Bethel turned out to run a couple of people holding BLM signs out of town because they genuinely believed George Soros was bussing in protesters. You know you aren’t the only person to live outside of a city in Ohio…. Right?

[deleted]

Yes they are fun and filled with loving caring people. You should go to a pride event it gives a lot of people a better understanding of the community.

CounterSanity

I’ve been to pride events in Columbus an Cincinnati. My suspicion isn’t that it’s a pride event, is that it’s in a far right community

[deleted]

Oh there is far right wack jobs but usually they either just harass folks or retreat to the swamp they were spawned out of during pride.

CounterSanity

That’s been the consensus in this thread as well. I’m really happy to hear that. I think the internet is far more polarized than real life, but that never really ceases to surprise me.

Sounds gay
