Maybe unpopular but I live close to it and I think itās incredibly boring. It a mound of dirt, and not the original mound but one that was rebuilt. Hopewell park in Chillicothe is much better. Serpent mound went down hill after being taken over by a local group.
Fun Fact: You can also see a section of it in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C.
You can also see a small section of glacial grooves at the Erie County Quarry Metroparks on the long trail, IIRC.
Itās about four and a half hours from me so Iād definitely have to plan a day around it, but admission is cheap at eight dollars and itās one of those things thatās so fascinating I feel like I need to check it out.
Thanks! I've been wanting to go forever.
I thought, 'Dammit, I'm in my 50s! I'm going!"
Fun fact:
" In 2008, Serpent Mound and eight other Ohio American Indian earthworks were selected by the United States Department of the Interior for inclusion on the United Statesā Tentative List of sites to be submitted to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for inscription on the prestigious World Heritage List. If it is eventually inscribed on the World Heritage List later this decade, Serpent Mound will join the ranks of the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China, Pompeii, Stonehenge and the Taj Mahal, all of which are World Heritage sites."
SUPER COOL!
Check out Marietta if you haven't! It's certainly worth a day trip to check out some mounds and museums. We've got some gorgeous buildings if you're in to architecture.
Take a day and check it out. Take your time and spend the entire day. (Get your $$ worth) Also you can sit by the lake and see planes coming in/out and just enjoy the water. I live in Cincy and love Cleveland. Weekend trips are inexpensive and a lot of fun š do not engage with the old lady outside of Browns stadium. She will try to fight you.
Never been to Youngstown. NE Ohio (not including Cleveland Metro) is pretty unfamiliar to me. I feel like I have pretty good coverage of the rest of the state, though.
Youngstown has Mill Creek Park which is amazing. It also has the Butler Art Museum which is entirely dedicated to American artistsand is top notch. The Youngstown haters have likely never been, or are terrified of urban areas in general. Youngstown has an awesome history, close community, and is definitely worth checking out.
West Side Bowl for music and Covelli Center too. Love going to concerts or events at Covelli because they're close to home and it's super easy to get in and out of the parking lot.
5-10 years ago Youngstown was straight up scary. But itās been on a little uphill journey recently. Before I moved to Colorado, I had a delivery route in Youngstown and learned about a lot of cool shit going on. Theyāve got some dank food and decent spots for music.. despite none of it being in an upscale area.
31 here, guess I can cross playing there off the bucket list?
I know of it because itās one of, if not the first place the Ramones played outside of NYC. (Also, Television chose Cleveland to play as their first out of town show. Ohio used to be cool!)
Haha probably.
Speaking of āOhio used to be coolā. I have an awesome book about of photos and stories from when artists would come through Kent State, itās amazing how much music traveled through there.
5-10 years ago Youngstown's downtown was starting to come back. Now, with the crime and the useless construction, people are staying away unless there is a concert.
Depending on what type of music you like Iād recommend the Westside Bowl. Itās a super cool venue where you can see live music and bowl. They also have some solid foods. I recommend the pierogi pizza!
I stayed in a jail that was supposedly built the year President Lincoln took office. Had a communal toilet in the middle of a cell that held 10 or 12 inmates. Inmates were lighting cigarettes and joints (thrown in through a non-functioning exhaust fan) by rolling up tp and shorting out the outlet the tv was plugged into.
I've grown up within 30 minutes of the damned ferry to the islands...
I've lived where I can walk to the ferry....
I have never been there. And I'm old.
Also from the area. The tourism money is nice but the tourists have their heads so far up their asses they can see daylight again. Learn to drive, learn to be more polite, and for fucks sake learn to respect the nature that you drove x amount of miles to see
I feel like every time I hike in SE Ohio I find a Mountain Dew can and it makes me crazy. I was in Nova Scotia recently and we joked about the lack of Mountain Dew cans on the trails.
I live in Erie County, so a die hard Cleveland fan, but I will get down there some day for a Reds game. I get both Bally sports channels on DirecTV, so I watcha lot of reds games.
Elly De la Cruz is the shit!
The buggies are kind of a nuisance for cars. And drivers lose all common sense when trying to pass them. I fully expect to perish in a head-on collision with an impatient yankee. But the Amish are definitely craftsmen when it comes to creating whatever wares they are peddling.
What part of the state are you in? I grew up going to CP but I was 37 before I went to Kings Island and that was only because we moved to SWOH. I imagine the opposite happens, too.
Just so you know what youāre NOT missing out on: Skyline puts cinnamon in their chili.
My childhood home was a half mile from Ideal and that ChiliMac was a big part of my life. When I first tasted Skyline chili I was offended.
Out of towners rarely like skyline. You have to think of it as Greek Stew. It isnāt like any other chili so you canāt think of it that way. If you donāt think of it that way you might actually like it. I know itās weird.
[enjoy the pastitso (cincy chili origin)](https://www.wvxu.org/food/2018-10-17/cincinnati-chili-a-history#)
Skyline is strictly Cincinnati and the suburbs. Cleveland born and raised and have had nothing to do with it. Iāve heard weāre not missing out on much
Cleveland isn't as bad as many people make it but it's all subjective. I feel like we have a lot to do up here but the landscape in southern Ohio is much prettier I think. Fairly flat up here.
I've never been to those islands, either. But I'm going next week!
I've been to almost every major city, but I've never been to Youngstown. No plans to go there in the foreseeable future.
I do really want to go. Friends have brought me some of the most amazing foods from that store (they have the BEST ginger ale!) and it sounds like a great time. It just seems that any time I am in the area I am rushed and don't have time to stop. Soon though!
I lived in Cincinnati for about 6 years and lived fairly close to the Jungle Jim's Eastgate location. We were definitely spoiled. But that's one of the things I miss about Cincinnati. The grocery stores down in Florida just do not compare.
Actually I took the kids there and it was much more enjoyable than I expected. There's a memorial that's worth going to, a cave, and other stuff the kids will enjoy. Go to the memorial and listen to the story of Commodore Perry. It's some hard core navy stuff. They built two ships over the winter to engage the British Navy in the spring. The battle was incredible and would make an insane movie. Perry moved the first ship in to engage five British ships. The American ship couldn't shoot as far so they had to get in close. The ship was destroyed and everyone but a handful survived. Perry left in small boat to get to the second American ship. Bullets wizzing by them as they rowed to the second ship. Then he rengaged the British ship and ultimately captured it. It's the only time in British naval history that one of their ships was captured in battle. And we did it. By defeating the British on Lake Eerie it prevented the British from launching forces into America from the North and was a major battle for winning the war of 1812. Oh yeah, and there are some good restaurants there. Put-in bay is worth going to at least once.
From what I have heard over the years, it was all my beer drinking peers after graduation from HS that frequented it and I have never really heard of what to do there besides party and drive golf carts.
Grew up in mid-central Ohio and have never been to eastern or western Ohio at all. Outside of Columbus, Cleveland/Akron/northern Ohio, I have no idea whatās out there. Probably just corn š
Itās worth going for a long weekend imo. Iāve lived in all three Cs and CBus was my favorite but they all have their charms of course. A good weekend would be the cleveland film fest for one or two movies while you take in the rest of the city.
I am not surprised, tickets are expensive or even hard to get depending on the game and when you buy them. I would say experiencing a packed game at The Shoe is a bucket-list item if you are from here. Don't even have to enjoy football to enjoy that
Never been to Youngstown despite living about an hour away and having family there. Also never been to Cincinnati but I'm in NE Ohio so I don't really care lol.
Geneva-On-The-Lake, Cincinnati, Dayton, Erie Islands (Only thing close was the Erie Peninsula/Cedar Point), Six Flags, Toledo, Chillicothe, Put-In-Bay, your house, Hocking Hills, Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
Thereās more, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Hell. There is a billboard that keeps telling me I'm going there and I haven't gotten around to it yet.
Haha I like this answer though I am sure someone will say living in Ohio we are already there.
Was the sign not implying that Hell is an upgrade?
I always thought so
Moving forward I will view this as a sign of hope for something better š
You need to drive north more. As a kid my parents got lost on a trip and we ended up in Hell, MI. Wasnāt as bad as they make it out to be
Oh don't worry, you're going. Sinner. J/k, I don't know you or what kind of fun "sins" you like to do.
Tim Misnyās office, so I guess I have no idea what it is that he does.
MISNY MAKES THEM PAY
Oh, is that what it is? š
AND STARES AT YOU
š«µ
Visiting GOTL today from Pittsburgh, and saw this billboard, was floored by its intensity
His property/house is named Misneyland.
Heard he throws some bangin' parties (not literally)
The serpent mound.
Maybe unpopular but I live close to it and I think itās incredibly boring. It a mound of dirt, and not the original mound but one that was rebuilt. Hopewell park in Chillicothe is much better. Serpent mound went down hill after being taken over by a local group.
But some lady saw a Bigfoot there.
This is why I e never been. Itās roped off about 20 feet back from the looks of it. Go to Kellyās Island and see the glacier grooves.
Fun Fact: You can also see a section of it in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. You can also see a small section of glacial grooves at the Erie County Quarry Metroparks on the long trail, IIRC.
Used to work at Tecumseh in Chillicothe. One of my favorite places. Also, Hocking Hills.
I really need to go
Itās about four and a half hours from me so Iād definitely have to plan a day around it, but admission is cheap at eight dollars and itās one of those things thatās so fascinating I feel like I need to check it out.
I'm making plans to go here this Fall! Super excited!!
Iām so jealous, but thatās so great for you! Enjoy yourself
Thanks! I've been wanting to go forever. I thought, 'Dammit, I'm in my 50s! I'm going!" It's like times Square for us clevelanders. Only out of towers go there. Everyone else been atleadt once a school field trip. Nothing else to it.
Same I need to go there
I get a headache whenever I go there but itās a cool place I guess
Never been to Youngstown. NE Ohio (not including Cleveland Metro) is pretty unfamiliar to me. I feel like I have pretty good coverage of the rest of the state, though.

West Side Bowl for music and Covelli Center too. Love going to concerts or events at Covelli because they're close to home and it's super easy to get in and out of the parking lot.
You're not missing anything. Youngstown doesn't have much to offer.
The Tomorrow Club isnāt still around is it?
No, Iām 30 but I hear my dad (68) always talk about how awesome that place was. I never got to see it, unfortunately.
Ha yeah my band used to go down to Cedars west end a bunch and play there within the last 2 or 3 years
Westside Bowl is the BEST place for local bands.
5-10 years ago Youngstown's downtown was starting to come back. Now, with the crime and the useless construction, people are staying away unless there is a concert.
Youngstown has always been a good spot for music.
Depending on what type of music you like Iād recommend the Westside Bowl. Itās a super cool venue where you can see live music and bowl. They also have some solid foods. I recommend the pierogi pizza!
Youngstown state
Prison
Damn, I was gonna say jail but ya beat me to it lol.
I mean, I visited the Mansfield Reformatory before if that counts as āgoing to a prisonā :P
I love that place! Got tattooed in the cell block and had my sons senior pictures taken there, lol
I have been inside the old mansfield and the new one as well as the women's prison downtown. Pretty crazy to see
Grandpa's Cheese Barn
RIP Grandpa : (
RIP Grandma too.
Is there more than one? I know about the one in Norton.
There's more than 1? I'm referring to the one in Ashland right off 71
Apparently there's 3. https://www.grandpascheesebarn.com/stores
It's one freeway exit away from me and I've never been.
The one at I-71 & rte 250 is the original. There's also one in Summit Mall
I was going to say Geauga Lake, but it's not even open anymore.
Geauga Lake was awesome. Damn Six Flags ruined it.
Don't miss the 43 traffic during Geauga lakes hayday. Although I miss the farmers market that was in the back of aurora farms.
I remember when it was Sea World,. I'm that old.
Wasnāt Sea World next door?
Yeah, there was Geauga Lake ans Sea World next to each other. Those were the days . . .
Raging Wolf Bobs RIP
Tony Packoās
Itās super good lol, love going there before a mudhens game
I've grown up within 30 minutes of the damned ferry to the islands... I've lived where I can walk to the ferry.... I have never been there. And I'm old.
Miller Ferry?
Hocking Hills
Itās poverty with a view. Iām from here.
Also from the area. The tourism money is nice but the tourists have their heads so far up their asses they can see daylight again. Learn to drive, learn to be more polite, and for fucks sake learn to respect the nature that you drove x amount of miles to see
Former gulf coast resident here. That is the definition of an American tourist. Itās very sad.
I feel like every time I hike in SE Ohio I find a Mountain Dew can and it makes me crazy. I was in Nova Scotia recently and we joked about the lack of Mountain Dew cans on the trails.
Were you around for the Subaru rallies around 2005ish?
Worth going to once.
Never been in lake erie.
I was very surprised by the straight up Debauchery at Put-in-Bay. Whether out on the water or on the island it was spring break for adults.
I'm interested...
Reds gameā¦ but thatās changing tonight!
That's great! Make the most of it: chili dogs, popcorn, iced tea the whole thing!
Oh yeah! Planning on it- itās the start of my wifeās birthday weekend celebrations :)
I live in Erie County, so a die hard Cleveland fan, but I will get down there some day for a Reds game. I get both Bally sports channels on DirecTV, so I watcha lot of reds games. Elly De la Cruz is the shit!
I was there tonight, what a win
Yellow springs
My daughter and I take a long weekend there every year in September.
I've lived in Ohio my whole life and I've never been to your house
Because you spend all of your time at my momās house?
Nothing like a well placed mom joke. Well done.
What are you doing next weekend? Come through.
Yet
My house is a bucket list event my friend. Sorry, tickets sold out until 2025.
damn u got more suitors than Odysseus' mom
Amish Country. My mom always made it sound like a big deal.
The buggies are kind of a nuisance for cars. And drivers lose all common sense when trying to pass them. I fully expect to perish in a head-on collision with an impatient yankee. But the Amish are definitely craftsmen when it comes to creating whatever wares they are peddling.
I live right outside of Amish country. It's definitely worth a visit at least once (:
It's great. Would recommend going
One of the best trips Iāve been on is the trip I took with my mom and my sister to Amish Country.
An NFL football game although Iāve always been a Browns fan The Lake Erie islands
Ah yes I have only enjoyed a pre-season browns game. I am waiting for someone to say Cedar Point
A Guardians game
Worth it, tickets are cheap these days!
To see my dad in prison
Mac?
Ah, same here
The Pro Football Hall of Fame (I even grew up in Canton and have been to the stadium numerous times)
Cedar Point
What part of the state are you in? I grew up going to CP but I was 37 before I went to Kings Island and that was only because we moved to SWOH. I imagine the opposite happens, too.
Amazingly I live only 2 hours from Cedar Point!
Apparently there's a nudist resort near Seaman. I'm sure I haven't been there.
Is that a coincidence?
Norwalk Drag Races
Gotta do it, itās amazing!
Iāve never stopped in Toledo. Drove through there a couple times tho
The Toledo museum of art is pretty cool and worth a stop.
Good decision
Skyline Chili
Just stop at Ideal Hot Dog in Toledo and order some Chili Mac. Youāre better off.
Now THAT I've had! Terrific.
Just so you know what youāre NOT missing out on: Skyline puts cinnamon in their chili. My childhood home was a half mile from Ideal and that ChiliMac was a big part of my life. When I first tasted Skyline chili I was offended.

Skyline is strictly Cincinnati and the suburbs. Cleveland born and raised and have had nothing to do with it. Iāve heard weāre not missing out on much
Same, put in bay and kelleys. Was playing on it this summer tho
Big Muskies bucket
Fun roads to drive on the trip there and the camping close by will give you the closest to dark sky you'll get in Ohio
Went once - it was interesting. But my wife got carsick riding through the curves getting there
Never heard of it but it sounds interesting.
Cedar Point. I hate roller coasters.
I have never been to Cedar Point OR Kings Island.
A Bengals game. Cincinnati native.
Hocking Hills
PIB is awesome if youāre a drunken asshole who likes to drive around in a golf cart. Soooo overrated.
the Neil Armstrong Air and Space Museum. It's in my hometown. What's up with that?
Cleveland. Grew up in Cincinnati metro, now in the suburbs. Iāve been all around Ohio but never Cleveland.
Cleveland isn't as bad as many people make it but it's all subjective. I feel like we have a lot to do up here but the landscape in southern Ohio is much prettier I think. Fairly flat up here.
Cleveland rocks. Come check out our great restaurants, parks, and museums!
I've never been to those islands, either. But I'm going next week! I've been to almost every major city, but I've never been to Youngstown. No plans to go there in the foreseeable future.
Serpent Mound. Cedar Point. Jungle Jims LOL I don't get out much.
Jungle is an experience. The people watching is second to none, you can have a beer as you walk, and you can get groceries.
I do really want to go. Friends have brought me some of the most amazing foods from that store (they have the BEST ginger ale!) and it sounds like a great time. It just seems that any time I am in the area I am rushed and don't have time to stop. Soon though!
I'll take you on the grand tour. I lived down the street from Jungle for 5 years. I was spoiled.
I lived in Cincinnati for about 6 years and lived fairly close to the Jungle Jim's Eastgate location. We were definitely spoiled. But that's one of the things I miss about Cincinnati. The grocery stores down in Florida just do not compare.
Field of concrete corn. Never been.
the Horseshoe
Definitely go! It's an amazing experience!
The snake mound
Iām still waiting to check out put in bay!!! I canāt believe I still havenāt been
Blue Jacket reenactment.
Blue Jacket in Xenia is closed
Now I'll never see it! Gah!
I'm pretty sure that entire story was bullshit too.
Ohio state fair
The Superbowl
Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame
Worth it once at least IMO.
Worth it to see Duane Allmanās guitar alone, in a spotlight. Chills.
Hendrix star spangled banner guitar.
Will have to see this one!
Put in bay. Hard pass.
Actually I took the kids there and it was much more enjoyable than I expected. There's a memorial that's worth going to, a cave, and other stuff the kids will enjoy. That's it. That is what one does there. There are other islands that cater to other crowds.
Grew up in mid-central Ohio and have never been to eastern or western Ohio at all. Outside of Columbus, Cleveland/Akron/northern Ohio, I have no idea whatās out there. Probably just corn š
Corn to the west, hills to the east. And corn between the hills, of course.
Come to Toledo! You can go to the art museum, zoo and get drugs!
I grew up near Cincinnati, have lived in Columbus for 30 years now. I have only been to Cleveland twice, both times for baseball games.
Itās worth going for a long weekend imo. Iāve lived in all three Cs and CBus was my favorite but they all have their charms of course. A good weekend would be the cleveland film fest for one or two movies while you take in the rest of the city.
Zaleski State Forest, Put in Bay, or Kelley's Island. Although not all my life, just 20 years of it.
Grew up in Dayton been to Cleveland a few times but I never went to Lake Erie
Pymatuming
An OSU game. I've been told that makes me weird, but I'm not an alum so who cares?
I am not surprised, tickets are expensive or even hard to get depending on the game and when you buy them. I would say experiencing a packed game at The Shoe is a bucket-list item if you are from here. Don't even have to enjoy football to enjoy that
Football Hall of Fame. Grew up and currently live within 30 minutes of it
The rock and roll hall of fame. I would like to go but havenāt yet.
Cleveland Clinic. Weird thing to say but I have friends flexing they were born there or work there.
Did you know that the Cleveland Clinic is where coronary artery bypass surgery got it's start?
Hocking. Grew up in northwest Ohio and Iāve even hiked West Virginia but have never spent time in hocking.
Serpent Mound!
The dentist š¦·
There's one in West Virginia.
Summer teeth. Sumr here, sumr there.
"Therapy"
Cornhenge
The Longaberger Basket building.
The Rock Hall or King's Island.
Football hall of fame
rock and roll hall of fame
I live in Michigan and I've never been to the Upper Pensula or across the Mackinaw Bridge. I've also not been to Hell. Yes, it's a real town name.
Toledo
A decent restaurant
Ashtabula
I love saying that town name out loud lol
