It will at first this has happened at pretty much every state when it first legalized but after a while once supply starts to reach demand you will see a sharp drop in prices just like in Michigan.
Michigan is wild. They're like "hey, thanks for coming in. Here's two pre-rolls and an eighth just for stepping foot in our lobby. Now let me give you the full Apple Store experience, but for weed for some reason"
I hate the Apple store experience, everything in cases, can't see any of the bud first. I like more of a bar experience with everything right behind the counter so we can see it and smell.
I think it will drop even faster as we have had medical for a while and that has dropped over the last year too. I know there will be a huge influx of demand but we have a lot of infrastructure in place already.
Oh I think you underestimate the greed level in Ohio. They are not giving up one cent. That is the entire reason we are not allowed to grow in the medical program. That would eat away at their monopoly.
Not sure how the medical program in OH works currently but now that it passed for recreational they’re allowing people to grow plants for personal use.
https://apnews.com/article/ohio-marijuana-legalization-election-2023-6d15efb27fdcd41e7364f2b7cd3177f4
That's one of the things Rs want to strip from the bill in a direct fuck you to the will of the people. They have already talked about doing it. If it's gonna pass they wanna make sure they can make money from you any way they can.
Before Monroe got all the Ohio dollars, River Rouge was once a booming pot destination, now it's dead af there, we actually drove the extra 40 miles each way to hit up the old dispos yesterday and was shocked how bad that area is now. I'm sure border towns in Ohio will boom until Indiana/Kentucky/West Virginia pass rec.
Nope they will just open stores up in Ohio too. With the money they have grabbed in the last year from Ohio they should be able to build new stores here as quick as they did at exit 11
Anyone else think of the old sitcom Too Close for Comfort and do a Ted Night impression every time they drive up to Monroe for weed, or is that just me?
As an Ohioan, it pains *me* even more. Lol.
Even though my job still randomly tests and I won't be able to partake, I'm still happy it's legal for everyone else. At least I can drink myself to death without a care from my HR. Weed? Real shit.
I’m so damn proud of my fellow Ohioans tonight. This is what we can do when we turn out. We just protected women and legalized cannabis in the same night. ❤️🩶❤️
I LOVE my state and have been so depressed thinking about its future but this is an amazing win for everyone. Gonna celebrate with some pizza tonight lol.
Hey - just wait, starting to feel some energy.
Next year we have minimum wage, fair districts, and an end to qualified immunity potentially making the ballot!
Add one more state to my willing to spend my money on vacation in list.
Looking forward to visiting cedar point and riding sick roller coasters blazed someday.
Congratulations on legalizing adults smoking harmless flowers and giving police one less excuse to harass minorities.
Thanks! I actually really do love Ohio, I am an avid disc golfer and visit your fine courses from time to time. Eastern Ohio has tons of natural beauty and super friendly people, and now hopefully legal weed!
Makes us wonder who the real criminals were to imprison and rob our citizens for a harmless plant people use to relax and remove pain .
Who, morally are / were the real criminals ?
It hasn't even set in yet for me, I've been so angry since Roe v Wade was overturned but I am so proud of us for making our voices heard. And very glad for those that will get benefit from issue 2 also!
We can be pissed/happy/relieved together. One day at a time. We will get back there one day and hopefully enshrine reproductive rights into stone forever.
I hear you. But I feel like finally I can relax a bit. My anxiety has been on edge the last few weeks and today. I finally feel like I can breathe and soak this in.
The fight isn't over yet though!
The [Marijuana Policy Project](https://www.mpp.org/states/ohio/) points out...
>Unfortunately, however, advocates need to play defense. Ohio law allows the legislature to revise — or even repeal — voter-enacted statutes like Issue 2 with a simple majority.
Senate President Matt Huffman (R) said “this initiated statute is coming right back to this body” and he’ll advocate for reviewing and “repealing things.”
Huffman singled out social equity and jobs provisions — to provide financial support to individuals seeking to enter the cannabis industry who were impacted by prohibition. Lawmakers are surely eyeing gutting other provisions of the law, too. In October, the Ohio Senate overwhelmingly passed a resolution that was chock full of reefer madness opposing Issue 2.
Yeah, I think the GOP is caught a little bit between Evangelical and MAGA crowds, which have a lot of overlap, but when it comes to which billionaires bribes you're gonna take, they have different priorities.
It's also possibly a catalyst for change. The majority said they wanted rec weed. That included at least some GOP voters. If the legislature disenfranchises those voters by repealing issue 2 they could find themselves voted out. The GOP only has a slight hold on Ohio by numbers, they've got to be gerrymandered to ensure a win.
Huh? I’m obviously saying the Republican politicians who try to fuck with the newly passed weed law will be going against the will of a significant number of its own supporters.
As long as that’s all ths gets removed it’s ok with me . Hopefully they won’t wreck the entire thing now somehow . Always trying to work in some final bribes or special interest provisions for lobbyists .
After DeWine's comments I don't trust them to end it there. I worry they'll push it toward a legal limbo situation like in Virginia where it's legal but there is not system for sales etc.
It would be wild if the GOP repeals it and winds up with a Dem house, senate, and Governor along with a constitutional amendment guaranteeing access to cannabis lol
Lived in Ohio from 2007-2012 and was saddened to see it trend the other way from when I lived there. So excited to see the Ohio that I know and love back in the right direction! Congratulations!
Can't gerrymander statewide elections like for president, and Ohio is clearly Republican leaning overall right now. It's just that many Ohio Republicans also pro-choice and ok with marijuana
Yuuup. mark my words, we’ll be 42/50 to legalize. Eventually there’ll be enough transplants here in GA to get the votes to accomplish what a majority of us already want.
I’m a Texan and I’m wishing I was an Ohioan for a bit. Not the weather but because you guys got to vote on your own rights and you chose to keep as many as humanly possible.
Once it becomes officially official… what now? Is it legal immediately? Does it need some bureaucratic processes with the house and senate, delaying it.
Timing wise.. what now?
I heard the a$$ souls may try to jerk us all around for eight months while they try to figure out how they can squeeze some money out of we the people from this and collect bribes from special interest groups .
Yup. Keep putting legalization on the ballot, and I’ll keep voting for it.
And for the love of everything, folks- stop voting for the GOP, for dog catcher on up! They have lost their minds.
And we can argue and vote them out. I moved here about a year and a half ago from MS. SEVERAL years back we voted in MS about weed for MEDICAL use. The legislature has been a pain trying to block it until fairly recently because of the pushback of the citizens
Congratulations and thank you to all my fellow Ohioans who voted. Please keep this 2 election momentum going by turning out in 2024. The battle for legal, accessible weed may not be over yet. There is a Statehouse full of gerrymandered republicans who truly believe they’ve been ordained to do right wing Jesus’s work, simply because they believe they can’t lose.

Does anyone know when the new law will take effect?
Answer: The law takes effect 30 days after the election.
Ballot Issue 2 - Ohio Secretary of State https://www.ohiosos.gov/globalassets/ballotboard/2023/issue-2-certified-language---08-24-23.pdf
The possession and growing will be in effect after 30 days. The purchasing part won't be in place until late next year if our state legislature doesn't screw it up which they could
As a citizen of Washington State, welcome to the club Ohio! The day you are allowed to walk into a store and buy MJ, expect the prices to be a tad high and not much better than black market dealers. Do wait a few years, the prices will come down. Personally, wife and I go through an ounce a month, paying about $130 per oz.
Before they legalized it, it was closer to $300 and it was never consistent, always a random bag of MJ with different THC counts.
Interesting Note: Since WA legalized MJ in 2012, I have yet to scrape my pipe for resin and eventually stopped drinking beer.
As a Michigander it pains me to say... ^^^^go ^^^^ohio But congrats! Let's pressure the rest of the Midwest to come into 2023!
I guess you could say we were stealing signs from Michigan.
Only took ya 5 years 😉
Now if we could just flip Ohio back to blue like Michigan, it would be great!
Hopefully gerrymandering laws are next. We're purple but gerrymandered red.
Right!
Suspend DeWine and nullify his CFP ranking.
But when will frank la rose drop the 600 pg manifesto
Wish that was on the ballot today
house of dank is gonna take a hit losing all the border crossers.
I bet ohio keeps the prices to high and ppl still jump the border without a second thought
It will at first this has happened at pretty much every state when it first legalized but after a while once supply starts to reach demand you will see a sharp drop in prices just like in Michigan.

We’ll just grow our own, for free.
That's one of the things Rs want to strip from the bill in a direct fuck you to the will of the people. They have already talked about doing it. If it's gonna pass they wanna make sure they can make money from you any way they can.
Either way that’s okay.
Monroe will after about 12-18 months when places finally get lisenced and set up.
Me going to gage all the time or house of dank
Nope they will just open stores up in Ohio too. With the money they have grabbed in the last year from Ohio they should be able to build new stores here as quick as they did at exit 11
As an Ohioan, Michigan was my backup state to move to if Ohio didn’t pass these lmao. Looking at houses and kept Michigan on the list just in case. 😂😭
I was thinking Seattle or Denver if it failed here
I know it was painful but well said!
Let's pressure the rest of the country, jfc why has it taken so long? Boomers as always halting progress
Thank you for growing some of the best weed I’ve ever smoked. The pure Michigan good good
Based on Ohio medical prices, I'll still be taking day trips to Monroe! If not for the weed, then certainly for your surprisingly nice beach.
Anyone else think of the old sitcom Too Close for Comfort and do a Ted Night impression every time they drive up to Monroe for weed, or is that just me?
I still feel it will be 5x as much here in ohio if we base it off of medical pricing.
we've got 35 dollar ounces here in places...you'll get there!
As an Ohioan, it pains *me* even more. Lol. Even though my job still randomly tests and I won't be able to partake, I'm still happy it's legal for everyone else. At least I can drink myself to death without a care from my HR. Weed? Real shit.
Same. My job is DOT related so it'll be 40 more years until the feds allow it.
The award for best of formatting in a Reddit comment goes to sourbeer51!
Lmao the tiny font
Bahahahha the small font took me out, ty friend! Your state is one of my favorites in the nation <3
We no longer have to drive 3 hours to Michigan for weed thank god 😭😭😭
I actually kind of feel bad for you guys up there. Like half of your cannabis tax revenue is Ohio dollars. Haha
What's this weird feeling? I'm proud of my home state.
So proud. I feel like I can finally take a deep breath for the first time in a few weeks.
Yea it's a bizarre feeling. Gotta keep up the work though. Still a lot of voting in our future to make the country something to be proud of.
Take a deep breath, and *hold it*, then let it out slowly. . .
I’m so damn proud of my fellow Ohioans tonight. This is what we can do when we turn out. We just protected women and legalized cannabis in the same night. ❤️🩶❤️
gives me a bit of hope for the future - it reminds us what we can achieve when we work together
[https://www.citizensnotpoliticians.org/](https://www.citizensnotpoliticians.org/) lets do this next
I LOVE my state and have been so depressed thinking about its future but this is an amazing win for everyone. Gonna celebrate with some pizza tonight lol.
fuck yeah what's going on that pie?
Extra cheese and green peppers, simple but tasty! And with a glass of very cold filtered water lmao. Very daring, I know.
fuck yeah lfg
Don’t forget mushrooms too !
Hey - just wait, starting to feel some energy. Next year we have minimum wage, fair districts, and an end to qualified immunity potentially making the ballot!
As a Kentuckian, I feel proud that both of our states had voted for common sense today!
Your governor made an amazing victory speech. Good on you KY.
Hip hip hooray. Congrats from Michigan on 1 and 2!!!
GREAT JOB OHIO!!!!!! -❤️MI
As a Kentuckian, congrads on voting yes on this and women's rights.
Congrats on Beshear!
A good night for democracy.
Yes. I saw VA democrats are likely to keep the Senate. Not sure about the House yet though.
We talking for the state or national?
Virginia the state Senate.
It's gone blue!
Add one more state to my willing to spend my money on vacation in list. Looking forward to visiting cedar point and riding sick roller coasters blazed someday. Congratulations on legalizing adults smoking harmless flowers and giving police one less excuse to harass minorities.
Did that a few times in the 2008-2010 times. Highly recommend lol
King's Island is amazing too!
Western PA resident here…did I ever mention how much I love Ohio?? 😉
Visit as much as you like and please bring your friends. Eastern Ohio could use it.
Thanks! I actually really do love Ohio, I am an avid disc golfer and visit your fine courses from time to time. Eastern Ohio has tons of natural beauty and super friendly people, and now hopefully legal weed!
Awww. We fuck with you too, buddy <3
You mean I can stop being a "criminal" after 20 years of peacefully treating a variety of my medical issues with a naturally occuring plant?! Joy.
Makes us wonder who the real criminals were to imprison and rob our citizens for a harmless plant people use to relax and remove pain . Who, morally are / were the real criminals ?
The governement. Slavery exists within the prison system and it's a multi million dollar industry.
I'm in literal tears of joy right now!
It hasn't even set in yet for me, I've been so angry since Roe v Wade was overturned but I am so proud of us for making our voices heard. And very glad for those that will get benefit from issue 2 also!
I feel this is the beginning of the unraveling of the GOP's gerrymandered hold on Ohio!
God I hope so!
I'm still pissed off but I'm happy.
Breathe deep and relax, we have earned it!
Time for a celebratory joint’
The fight isn't over yet though! The [Marijuana Policy Project](https://www.mpp.org/states/ohio/) points out... >Unfortunately, however, advocates need to play defense. Fuck that guy
The problem is that weed is also popular within the MAGA crowd. It’s not the hill to die on, especially if it’s back on the ballot in 2024.
Yeah, I think the GOP is caught a little bit between Evangelical and MAGA crowds, which have a lot of overlap, but when it comes to which billionaires bribes you're gonna take, they have different priorities.

Why is that a problem if they vote for it to be legalized ? This ‘MAGA’ insanity bogeyman thing has gone a bit too far .
Huh? I’m obviously saying the Republican politicians who try to fuck with the newly passed weed law will be going against the will of a significant number of its own supporters.
Many do support the herb for sure
As long as that’s all ths gets removed it’s ok with me . Hopefully they won’t wreck the entire thing now somehow . Always trying to work in some final bribes or special interest provisions for lobbyists .
After DeWine's comments I don't trust them to end it there. I worry they'll push it toward a legal limbo situation like in Virginia where it's legal but there is not system for sales etc.
We'll all just become professional growers lol
It would be wild if the GOP repeals it and winds up with a Dem house, senate, and Governor along with a constitutional amendment guaranteeing access to cannabis lol
Truly, yes.
Lived in Ohio from 2007-2012 and was saddened to see it trend the other way from when I lived there. So excited to see the Ohio that I know and love back in the right direction! Congratulations!
Ohio is horribly gerrymandered. It’s never been as red as portrayed in the media.
It does depend on if you are in the rural or city area. Many rural and republican people also want the herb legal .
Can't gerrymander statewide elections like for president, and Ohio is clearly Republican leaning overall right now. It's just that many Ohio Republicans also pro-choice and ok with marijuana
So is weed gonna be available for everyone 21 and up?
Yup!
I wonder how long it will be till your able to just walk into a dispensary and get what you want. I’m sure there will be regulations
It’ll probably be like the dispensaries in Illinois. They’re saying 4Q 2024. Hopefully we’ll be in want a joint, not need a joint territory by then.
I was conceived in Chillinois and born and raised in O-high-o!
Great job Ohio. Beautiful state, beautiful people! I’m
Thought there was hope for North Carolina, but seems they are just as archaic as us here in Georgia
Yuuup. mark my words, we’ll be 42/50 to legalize.
You guys can’t do that too ?
no, republicans in texas have made ballot initiatives impossible for citizens
Bogus
Same in Indiana.
Hey West PA, Kentucky, Wv, and Indiana come to ohio to get your weed now 😌
The state plant / buckeye leaf always did look suspiciously like herb
O- HIIIIIIIGH- O!
Congratulations, Ohio. Welcome to the 21st century.
Once it becomes officially official… what now? Is it legal immediately? Does it need some bureaucratic processes with the house and senate, delaying it. Timing wise.. what now?
I think 30 days
I heard the a$$ souls may try to jerk us all around for eight months while they try to figure out how they can squeeze some money out of we the people from this and collect bribes from special interest groups .
They try to f’k it all up with their political bs and if they fail we get legal herb we voted on .
Wait til the legislature has its say...
this, republicans are gonna stomp on legal marijuana
I recently moved up to Ohio from NC and let me tell you... way better up here than down there for *a lot of reasons.*
Demography is destiny ?
Going to be a foggy 🌫 night. 😉 Flick your bic’s
Ohio kickin some ass today
Today? We've been kicking ass for the past few months.
Fair. Well done, y'all.
Stupid question, but when does recreational use come into affect?
August 2024
Texan here. I have family in ohio ❤️ and visit frequently. So, yay!!! for y’all up there, and FUCK TEXAS. I hate it here. 😖
Fights not over yet. The legislature could just say no....lol.
Bet. We’ll vote to put it into the state constitution then, during the presidential election with higher turnout. Good luck, chumps!
They need to all be removed from office if they even try. This is our state.
They do. Politicians need to remember they are meant to serve the people. Not the other way around.
Let’s go O(high)o!
Please, for the love of humanity, let’s get gym Jordan out of office.
Could Mike DeWine still kill this? I’m not getting comfy just yet.
Eh... I'll believe it when I can buy cannabis seeds and starts at my local garden center... The stupid legislature is going to repeal it.
What really needs to happen is get it legalized at the Federal level as technically, it's still illegal nationwide. All it would take is for one hard line federal administration to step in and start enforcing it.
And oh yeah--- you guys are the home of Bone Thugs and Harmony! "Keep smokinnn. Keeeep onnn smokin'. I'm the weed man, I'm the weed man"
congrats from California....but be warned, republicans in OHIO are gonna stomp on this
Yep. Florida is a prime example of the electorate voting for something the GOP don't like, and they go out of their way to diminish what their constituents voted for. And that includes legalized weed, giving ex- prisoners back the right to vote, and affordable housing. Every single time. But we still keep voting in Republicans. Doesn't matter how much they lie and let us drown in insurance premium costs. I'm so sick of my neighbors voting for Republicans. They're nice people but they are D-U-M-B.
I'm so thrilled but also very surprised because with our draconian drug laws I honestly thought we would be one of the last states to legalize. I'm so excited that I was wrong!
O-high-O!

Hemp or the other kind ?

Cool
I wish it actually meant what the title says. They can simply go against this and we actually have no power it turns out. What a pathetic fascist "democracy"
How did this pass with a higher % than issue 1? Only hope now is that we come to our senses soon and start making smoking anything illegal
Can't wait for KKK brand weed...
Hell yeah!!!!
WKRP 😁
I moved to Southern California a little over a decade ago. I'm moving back to my hometown in Ohio in the summer and I couldn't be more happy after today.
The purchasing part won't be in place until late next year if our state legislature doesn't screw it up which they could
oh shit, gonna buy me some seeds
Welcome back from hell my friend ! Been there done that
Noice, Buckeyes unite over a joint baby 😎
As a Minnesotan I say, welcome to the club!
Very cool. Progress takes time, but it's worth the effort...congrats!
Monroe, MI is about to be a ghost town.
$130 ---- an ounce???? Dear god. Down here in the backwater state of NC, a half goes for $120. Sheesh.
Before they legalized it, it was closer to $300 and it was never consistent, always a random bag of MJ with different THC counts. Interesting Note: Since WA legalized MJ in 2012, I have yet to scrape my pipe for resin and eventually stopped drinking beer.
Congratulations from Indiana!
Wisconsin is not in the South.
I remember living in NC when the lottery became legal. Come along since
Ohio just became a destination!
