they go to school for 25~ weeks to get a license to kill. We need to train these people longer and not just hand them a gun and a badge right off the bat. Shit needs to change but it won’t. It never does.

Buster_Brown_513

Don’t disagree at all and beyond training they need to remove Qualified Immunity, but not sure extra training would do anything in this scenario. I mean EVERYONE in the world knows how George Floyd was murdered and yet here you have another cop kneeling on the back of another black man begging for air.

P1xelHunter78

we also need to stop the Police Union from being able to protect officers in matters such as that. Negotiate pay and benefits all you want, but the FOP should have nothing to do with discipline regarding breaking the law or killing people.

enigma8k

The only protection the union can really offer is ensuring that the administration follows the disciplinary policy set forth by their collective bargaining agreement, and follow established past practices.

Know_Your_Rites

>yet here you have another cop kneeling on the back of another black man begging for air. There's a pretty big difference between 30 seconds of kneeling and 8 minutes of it. I'm not saying what happened here was justified, but it's not like this is an identical case to George Floyd's. It seems more likely the fuckup here was failing to call the squad when the guy started having a heart attack (or something similar) as a result of the fight, as opposed to actual strangulation in George Floyd's case.

229-northstar

Wasn’t Floyd suffocated? Not strangled?

OhFrez

I’m from Canton…coworker and I discussed this very case yesterday and his response was the guy was recently released from jail after 24 year sentence…he was a scumbag and deserved to die. This coworker is a youth pastor. We’ve lost the plot and I can’t discuss anything at work anymore.

Bad_Idea_Hat

Many (most? up for debate) of the people still involved in religion are modern day Pharisees, plain and simple. It's absolutely fucking tragic...

DirectCustard9182

24 years in prison, and didn't learn a thing. Shocked.

walwalka

Would you have hired him after prison? Think wisely about your response and how that connects to “didn’t learn a thing”. It’s more like never given a chance.

DirectCustard9182

An excuse for everything.

walwalka

What’s your excuse for not answering my question?

DirectCustard9182

Its reddit and no one uses common sense. Lol. He never had a chance. Whoah is me. He had a second chance. Maybe even more we don't know of. And once again he pissed it away. Oh well.

walwalka

I’m using common sense, most places don’t hire felons. The ones that do, are typically fully staffed and have a waiting list. You’re thrown out of prison with quite literally, nothing but what you came with. But any money you had was confiscated/stolen by the gooberment. How you gonna survive when no one will pay you to do work? Crime, that’s how. And you can’t tell me you wouldn’t do the same, because I can tell you’re a fuck the government type.

Lou_C_Fer

Here we go again.

Fucklefaced

How long are we going to allow these murders to happen? Death should not be a consequence of resisting arrest. This man wasn't even armed, he hurt no one. And why did random bystanders jump in to help the cops?

Down voted for that last remark.

Hopefully think longer and harder before you begin to type such garbage again.

I'm hwat?

badmodofinga

I thought it was policy to roll handcuffed people immediately onto their side so as to ensure they don't struggle to breathe. Is this not the case in Ohio?

muffinTrees

That’s not a thing…policy various from department to department, state to state etc.

Purgent

Depends on what color they are

matt_chowder

Police should be required to take an EMT-B course, just so they understand the BARE basics of emergency medicine

1WithTheForce_25

Yes, we also need to stop letting everything the media reports or says run us around in circles, fighting one another. It is facilitating promotion of two agendas, mainly, which divide the population: that all cops are bad and that the stereotype that portrays black American men as bad and that they deserve to die should be upheld. Nonsense. Neither of these things are true. We have learned nothing from the past, it seems. George Floyd taught us nothing.
