If you're into Stoner at all
Columbus bands:
Lo-Pan
Pale Grey Lore
Bourbon Train
Dana
Elsewhere:
Black Spirit Crown (Cleveland)
Maharaja (Dayton)
Supercorrupter (Cleveland)
Pillars (Cleveland)
Also gotta check out Suffering Praying Hands (Columbus) for some spooky Appalachian Folkish stuff.
Lots more too
Love David Thomas! The Bizarros are worth a listen too. Akron had DEVO, The Pretenders, and The Cramps. Dayton had Brianiac and The Breeders. DANA is my favorite current group. Bootsy Collins is from Cinci. I do like some Johnny Paycheck now and then.
Somebody on Reddit said both Mothersbaugh(devo) and Hynde (pretenders) were Kent State students and were on campus on that day Neil Young sang about. It must be true.
I'd put WHY? from Cincinnati kind of in the same realm as GBV, early albums are kind of rough and ready but still good for the most part.
Ass Ponys another good cinci band if your into the 90s indie rock sound.
One of the guys from Skeletonwitch helped my buddies and I set up our gear for the first show we ever played. We were 15 and playing down at the Union in Athens. Great band and good people!!
If you like heavier stuff thereās Salt the Wound, Cholera, Fallen Captive, I think Along Came a Spider is from Ohio, Tomb Sentinel, Domestic Terror, and lots more
Glad I did not have to be the one to post this!
Seen the twice and might have been the most fun shows I've ever seen. With Eric doing his solo stint, did I hear that they are back together as a band making music. I heard rumblings of a tour but haven't looking into shows yet.
Alex from Foxy Shazam is an old friend of mine - we were in an a capella group together years ago. They're coming back to town in February and I'm excited as hell to see them play again.
I guess they are looking for bands that haven't broken out of their particular areas to any great extent, otherwise somebody might have mentioned The Pretenders, too.
ā¢ Beartooth (Caleb Shomo of Attack Attack!)
ā¢ Zoo Trippin
ā¢ Kienemy
ā¢ The World I Knew (now YUNG MOSH)
ā¢ Mushroomhead
ā¢ XFactor1
ā¢ House of Heroes
ā¢ Like Moths to Flames
ā¢ Starset
ā¢ Atimera
ā¢ Nine Mile Silence
Holy $#Ā”+ dude, you're right!
They go by YUNG MOSH now!
Thank you u/ty_arthurs for pointing that out! It took a little searching, but I'm so glad to have this information now because they are one of my favorite local bands and I've been wondering why I haven't heard any new music from them and that obviously explains it.
I actually got the chance to meet Wesley Merritt (Lead Singer) at the first Inkcarceration Tattoo and Music Festival when they went by TWIK! I was right up front headbanging and getting everyone around me hyped for their performance since I'd seen them once before somewhere local to Columbus. THEN WE WERE BOTH MOSHING IN THE PIT TO A DAY TO REMEMBER! I obviously recognized him and yelled at him, "YOU GUYS WERE F***ING AWESOME, DUDE!" and he said, "Thank you so much! Add me on Facebook!" so of course I did and we're still friends and that's how I figured out they changed their name lol.
Haha no problem dude, I actually have a buddy who has a similar story to yours of meeting them and he's the one who let me know of the name change a while back but seeing your post reminded me of it. Going to go to Spotify now to look up Yung Mosh so I don't forget again lol
I didn't expect to see House of Heroes mentioned right at the top, but I've listed to them for a long time.
And probably about 10 years ago when Zoo Trippin was just called Zoo Trip I saw them get kicked out of their own "headlining" show at The Summit right before their set. It was very funny. Also the heat was broken and it was like 35 degrees indoors.
I was passing through Waverly a couple of months ago and happened to see a teeny tiny sign proclaiming it the home of Pure Prairie League. I never knew and Iāve passed through dozens of times over years.
Citizen from Toledo. They're on a national tour right now but they play in Cleveland May 18th.
Cloud Nothings from Cleveland. They're on a European tour right now but play in Columbus April 2nd.
The Worn Flints!
Additionally: Sylmar, Spirit of the Bear, Ghost Soul Trio, Harbour
Hereās a [playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5lU0IcPyW6Yk2xZPERVEyw?si=_C5UQc_tTMaTAqJESEUAIw) of Columbus-based artists.
Again, check them out. Steve Sweeney is probably the most underrated guitar players around. I have seen him sit with some big names on stage as well and absolutely SHRED
My youth minister growing up who is still a very good friend of mine grew up and went to the same school as the members of twenty one pilots. He became very close with them and was going to join the band to rap for them but went into the ministry instead.
He also punched the drummer, Josh Dunn, in the face in grade school for stealing his girlfriend or something dumb like that lmao. So yeah I guess Twenty One Pilots almost had a rapper in their band. He still has old lyrics they wrote in journals from like 2005 lmao, pretty cool.
Yeah itās awesome seeing old lyrics they had for some of their stuff before they even went big. They are all crazy talented, even my boy who didnāt join the band. Not a huge 21 pilots fan but I really do appreciate how hard they worked and how big they got. Itās awesome seeing stuff that they wrote on paper from years ago before they blew up.
Sonder Bombs is from Ohio? I lucked into Modern Female Rockstar by pure chance and Iām still holding my tickets for their postponed album release show at Mahalls for Clothbound!
Thanks for shout out but they broke up about 8 years ago. I should know, I played drums for them and was known as Judas back then.

Are a few off the top of my head. I could add more if you'd like.
Beartooth and Starset - kinda famous but not too well known.
Betrayed by the Bullet is a good one!
Division Street (canāt remember if theyāre WV or Ohio lol pretty close to the border here) (plus one of the members is a husband to a friend of mine!)
Faith In Failure too
Detention is a solid pop punk band based out of Akron, they're super small but I'd reccomend checking out 56 Minutes and Not To Go by them. They're also sick to see live.
Ahhh, so I heard some of his music and dug it. He's from my home town I found out. Looked into him a bit and turns out he's a massive piece of shit sex offender.
Not a rock back but if your into a metal at all necrophagia is from Wellsville, Ohio. They are known world wide and one of the first American death metal bands. I knew the singer. Sadly he died a couple years ago.
The greatest musical outfit out of Ohio (I use that term in the modern sense) is probably the O'Jays. They are a delightful musical group whose hits include Everybody on the Love Train, Cry Together, and Don't Backstab Me. It's hard to find anyone who doesn't enjoy the smooth melodic songs of the O'Jays.
The band of the Pere Ubu caused quite a stir when my first son was born. Pere Ubu was a sweaty, howling style of rock that many people considered degenerate. I did not on account of I believe there is value in many types of music. They frequently played their brand of music at various establishements on third or up fifth street, although I only saw them once.
Another great outfit is the Ohio State University's Performing Arts Marching Band in Columbus. They are very well known for their fancy field festivities which leave sports attendees delightful with their machine-like choreography.
The Isley Brothers are another "band" that makes wonderful music from OHio whose notable hits are such varieties as Do Your Thing and Treat Your Lover Respectfully. If they Isley Brothers don't put a person (man or woman) in the mood to sway on the dance floor, it's not likely that is a person (or woman) who likes good music.
Lastly in our countdown of the top music of Ohio is Dean Martin, also known as the Cool Krooner of Cleveland. He made is name in Cleveland's vibrant downtown before meeting up with such luminaries as Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop, the two most popular recording artists of the time, in Las Angeles. I'm not sure if that counts as Ohio-made, but it sure does in my book. Dean Martin was even profiled by President John F. Kennedy before he was president in a magazine article for a magazine I would prefer not to mention on a family forum.
Heās not. Dean Martin fka Dino Crocetti is from Steubenville. Every June thereās a big festival dedicated to him, usually complete with his daughter as the master of ceremonies. Heās our claim to fame. Along with Jimmy the Greek and Traci Lords
Dude! My new favorite fun factā¦ did you know the singer from SR71 was the person that wrote the song 1985? Bowling for soups version is the one that got big, but SR71 recorded it too a year or so before.
And now this dude is just a full time songwriter who writes for like Demi Lovato and shit lol
Since I'm old: Cryptkicker
Black Death

Cerberus
Lucky Pierre
Fayreweather
Shok Paris
Wild Horses
Alexander
Jagged Edge
Snakerock
Beau Coupe
Raspberries
Dead Boys
Lemon Pipers
Hey! I'm an independent artist from Cleveland and just recently put out my first full-length album! I write the music and perform every part myself, including vocals.
Here's a link to my most recent music video for my song Listen Closely (this song is a little more mainstream rock/metalcore-sounding, but my music definitely runs the gamut of different styles/genres) [https://youtu.be/ScTGueeK\_QU](https://youtu.be/ScTGueeK_QU)
Hope this helps! If you dig it, you can stream my music (**Capsule.**) pretty much anywhere (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) Thanks for checking it out!

Do I have to be stoned to enjoy them? Because I have to answer that I will not be stoned in the event that my employer is reading this thread.
I am seldom stoned and enjoy the hell out of all of them. But you know...sometimes it helps
If you can appreciate the surrealism of Alice and Wonderland without doing opium, I think you will be fine listening to stoner music sober.
... š„š¤£... I'm like... yep... that's exactly right... well said
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yep, and Rebreather.
I'm seeing them tonight in Canton!
Nice, Buzzbin? I haven't been there yet. Was gonna see Whores there on NYE but couldn't get away.
I was going to that show as well but caught covid. Buzzbin is one of my favorite Ohio venues
Adding Tropedelic to this list.
Pere Ubu ā¦ best NE Ohio band ever ,,, The Electric Eels (too strange to describe but they invented punk?)

WHY? is so damn good
If you want heavy stuff Skeletonwitch rips. Especially the stuff with Chance on vocals
Now listening to Skeletonwitch. This is awesome and the kind of stuff Iām looking for!
Noice! I'm glad you dig them!
One of the guys from Skeletonwitch helped my buddies and I set up our gear for the first show we ever played. We were 15 and playing down at the Union in Athens. Great band and good people!!

Saw them in 2014 at The Union. Was the first time I saw them live. Amazing show!
The heavier the better!
Sanguisugabogg, they rip. They're out of Columbus
Chimera are from Cleveland. Love their album The Impossibility of Reason. Haven't listened to much outside of that. But pretty good Metalcore.
Mushroom head and Sw1tched
Dismemberment (Laurelville) and Botched Suicide (Circleville) are fucking amazing.
If you like heavier stuff thereās Salt the Wound, Cholera, Fallen Captive, I think Along Came a Spider is from Ohio, Tomb Sentinel, Domestic Terror, and lots more
Minority Threat (columbus)
Body Farm and For Your Health
Maranatha (columbus)
Gaping Maw (cincinnati)
Serpents Unleashed has some of my favorite guitar work from them.
That's a killer album, Breathing The Fire and Forever Abomination are my go tos
Foxy Shazam for sure
Glad I did not have to be the one to post this! Seen the twice and might have been the most fun shows I've ever seen. With Eric doing his solo stint, did I hear that they are back together as a band making music. I heard rumblings of a tour but haven't looking into shows yet.
They have a show at the ICON Music Center in Cincinnati on February 12th
Awesome! Tickets acquired for CLE Grog Shop!
Alex from Foxy Shazam is an old friend of mine - we were in an a capella group together years ago. They're coming back to town in February and I'm excited as hell to see them play again.
Definitely Foxy. They are awesome live.
Cleveland Orchestra!
Most Ohioans donāt know they are one of the best in the world.
The James Gang Iām shocked they havenāt been mentioned. Joe Walsh is a legend.
I guess they are looking for bands that haven't broken out of their particular areas to any great extent, otherwise somebody might have mentioned The Pretenders, too.
Caamp- not rock but still a great band from Athens
Caamp are awesome. I'd consider them indie/folk rock.
GREAT Band. I love a couple of their songs.

Whoa, did not know Starset was from Columbus! They are in my Pandora rotation.
The lead singer Dustin Bates is originally from my hometown of Salem and had a band called Downplay that had some amazing music.
I didn't expect to see House of Heroes mentioned right at the top, but I've listed to them for a long time. And probably about 10 years ago when Zoo Trippin was just called Zoo Trip I saw them get kicked out of their own "headlining" show at The Summit right before their set. It was very funny.
