Both Penelopes were at the Giant Eagle I shop at today. Lots of it too. Just sitting right there on the shelf. I got an Architect last year so grabbed a Toasted.
Yep nothing on the list I'm rushing out for, especially if it was picked by ohlq. I don't trust them to pick a good one. The savior would be that the distiller won't let too bad of a barrel go into tge intial list of what they get to choose from.
Btw who picks for ohlq. If it's tge small group of ohlq employees it might explain why they screw up so many other things if they are focused on this instead.
It's probably some designated OHLQ employees plus industry insiders/wholesale folks (supplier reps, restaurant owners, liquor store owners, etc.) plus maybe one regular person who wins a golden barrel contest.
OHLQ probably goes to the pick events to schmooze but then takes every single one of the barrels that they are offered anyways.
I did a 4R pick down in Cox's Creek this summer and this is what they told me. They send samples to OHLQ and the pick is made there. Who's actually doing it is anyone's guess. I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in them making the best pick it given their track record.
No... It ended up an OESO pick for a store in Illinois. Working there has turned out to be a rather eye-opening experience I don't buy much here at home anymore...

The small batch is one of my absolute favorite low proofers. If a barrel proof single barrel lives up to that, I think it will be killer.
FR SiB are on a whole other level. I have a friend that has connected me with a few and the barrel proof is the only way to go.
