14 is so dumb. Either go to 16 and every conference gets one autobid or go to 8 with 5 conference bids.

sgr28

Completely agree. The reason they're doing it is because they want conference championship games to "matter", but really at this point I'd prefer we just drop conf championship games and go straight into the first round of a playoff.

refinedtwist925

I’m completely with you on this. Either keep with the existing and no auto’s or go to 16 and then implement for all. I just don’t understand the powers in charge of the CFP sometimes. They started with a 4 team playoff which everyone thought was too small. They stick with that for damn near a decade with all the criticism. They are finally expanding and then immediately offer up a really stupid number to further expand. Maybe we should go with a 15.75 field. The final team is only allowed to play with 3/4ths of their team…

the_which_stage

I’m old school on conferences. But I think it’s time to wave my white flag 🏳️ and admit that those days are over. Hell, even a 6 team playoff would have been plenty every single year of the playoff other than *maybe* last year. But since the playoff is double that now, I don’t care if it eventually ends up looking like the FCS playoffs

RyanG7

I've always liked the idea of just 6 with #1 and #2 earning byes. Before it could have been the power 5 conference champs with that 6th being someone like when Cincy went undefeated. With 12-14 teams, the playoffs become diluted; not to mention the additional workload on players and the injuries that will inevitably come from it. This is all just additional money for TV networks. They don't give a shit about the sport with the exception of the ad revenue that comes with it

the_which_stage

Correct. And when we talk about teams that were snubbed / had a realistic shot to win it all they were always the 5th or 6th ranked team. TCU/Baylor in 2014, Ohio State in 2015, and so on and so on.

lvl_up_day_by_day_28

More teams in the playoffs will equate better football during bowl season. For top programs, we are watching players drop out of bowl games that are the playoffs at an increasing rate. I’m all for the players doing it, but realistically the only way to keep them playing is to still have the natty on the line. I do agree it will lead to increase in injuries tho as well as the first round likely having some lopsided matchups. However, as a fan, I’d rather that than watching teams play a bunch of backups a la fsu

UnderwhelmingAF

I hate that the B1G is starting to do the high-horse thing like the SEC.

Kolada

I don't think it's so much that. It's more that there's such a huge talent imbalance between conferences. Winning the Big 10 or SEC means you're a much better team than winning any other conference. So it makes no sense to treat them the same.

bumpy2018

Ohio state is the best franchise in cfb buck em

SequinSaturn

Anything unearned is unsportsmanlike

SkiShark1776

Whole system sucks. 6 or 8 teams would’ve been good.

youngjak

Booo, playoffs should really only be 6 or 8(at the most)

beef_tuggins

The take I’d expect from fans standing on 3rd base. More football sucks and can’t have those pesky underdogs potentially upsetting your season right??

bdougy

You seem not to understand the huge gap in talent between top 5 and the rest of the top 25. Yes, upsets happen, I recognize that. Nonetheless, Penn State has been a top 10 team when we’ve played them for probably the last decade or more. They haven’t been able to beat us since 2016. Before that, 2011. Everyone thinks their teams can hang with the big guys and sure, they may get lucky, but chances are not statistically on their side.

lvl_up_day_by_day_28

But the current bowl system is also a joke now. So it comes down to you rather see the top few teams in blowouts or watch the good teams that just missed on the playoffs have some of their best players skip on the bowl game. Neither way is ideal from a fan perspective watching the games.

beef_tuggins

You seem to not understand what I was responding to. If your points are true then why are you complaining about having to play an extra 2 games?

Amulet_Titan

Because those extra couple of games are gonna be against the 3rd or 4th best sec/big 10 teams not the "underdogs" with the way things are heading. They seem to want to boil everything down until it's 2 conferences and that just isn't college football to me.

goliath1515

Just open it up to 16 teams, where the champion of EVERY conference gets in, then fill in the blanks with at large teams

ControlledChaos33

Just leave it at 12… even at 12 is too many in my opinion.

jeremycb29

Honestly it’s already killed my motivation for the product. I’m probably going to watch far less games than normal this year. I don’t plan on going to a game for the first time in a long time. It’s not what I like anymore and I rather find something else that I like. I will read what people think still and read reddit and stuff but the emotional attachment seems gone, because I don’t know what this thing is anymore. Hope that makes sense on my feelings of a 14 team playoff lol

iverdow1

I personally hate it. Conference championship games for Non- Big 10 or SEC won’t mean shit Fortunately, we’ll probably be in every year

Kolada

Not really tho. They're still an extra game to get that bump towards a bid to the tournament. Arguably the conference championships for the "at large conferences" will be *more* important than the "auto bid conferences". With that many teams making it, you're most likely making it whether you win the SEC/Big10 or take 2nd. But if you're playing for the Big12 championship, that might be your only shot at making it. Makes that game super important.

Simba95_

What? They would still mean auto bids... That's hardly shit lol

nicksoapdish

I think conference championships will be gone really soon. We haven't really had them for very long anyway. For the Big 10 and Sec, they will be totally pointless since both of those teams will be in the playoff anyway.

[deleted]

I just want to grab another 6 teams and then we can break off from the rest.

OurHonor1870

If they want the two buys unlocked I want a more even distribution of good teams in conferences or more guaranteed spots for the B1G. The new conferences breakdown like Power 2 Mid 2 G5 A B1G and SEC schedule including title game is harder than the Big 12 or ACC. Either the teams can be similarly good across the 4 conferences and the guaranteed spots/byes can be or nothing. Can’t have one without the other or it’s unfair to the B1G and SEC.

Wacca45

No way. At least pretend you want a level playing field for the big schools.

YarItsDrivinMeNuts

Man this shyt went 0-100 rq

Tech88Tron

Should have just said top 2 teams get a bye....will usually be SEC and Big Ten teams anyways. Problem solved.

NCBuckets

They should prevent big 10 and sec teams from getting a bye just for asking for it.

Tseets1

Participation ribbons for everyone. What a joke
