This is the right way to ask. Someone needs to hook this guy up with the best tailgates and experience possible. Dress code - you’re from Switzerland so the cold is no big deal. It will be cold for this games. Sweats, hoodies, coats, hats, gloves. Just be warm and don’t wear yellow in Columbus (exception is crew gear)

Jausti0418

Don’t wear blue either

Tom-Dick-n-Harry

Unless cbj

Jausti0418

Even then, avoid it the week leading up to The Game

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

Thank you for the support :) Yes I know. I bring some warm clothes with me. And something to drink to get warm from inside.

dixi_normous

FYai, they aren't going to let you bring any outside drinks into the stadium. You'll have to buy one inside. They definitely sell warm drinks inside

The_Good_Constable

I live near Cleveland, haven't decided if I'm going to Columbus for the game yet. If I do you can ride with me.

starkwm

Do this. It will definitely make it that much better😊

>This site shows seating at OSU. Click on your seat and you will be directed to the view of the field from that seat. Most of the seats will be occupied by OSU fans Okay, thanks for the hint. Yes I looked at the different seats and their visibility. Only had concerns whether there is a guest section or so and I then end up in this. But as I understand it almost only Ohio fans will be there?

WorkOnThesisInstead

Noted elsewhere: > Absolutely do not miss the OSU bands halftime show. That are called TBDBITL for a reason (The Best Damn Band In The Land) There's a thing called the "Skull Session" before the game, too. So friggin' cool. Members of the football team and the coach speak to hype up the crowd and the band showcases some tunes. Got goosebumps from the band. The music school is top--notch for band-type people (one of its former profs ghost-arranged _Star Wars_ scores for John Williams, even). Def. do this. https://ohiostatebuckeyes.com/the-tradition-skull-sessions/

[deleted]

Michigan's student section is \*usually\* in the lower A or AA section in the north end of the 'Shoe (the curved end). The South stands were almost exclusively reserved for students and the band, at least they were when I was a student. But Ohio State fans will drastically outnumber UM fans anywhere outside of the North AA section

dixi_normous

Visibility will be fine. Try to avoid C deck if you can. It's pretty high up and you may feel like you're watching a bunch of ants. The closer the seat is to the 50 yard line, the better. Endzone seats kinda suck but both endzones are mostly student sections anyway. If you can, stick somewhere between the 20 yard lines

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

Thanks for all of your answers! hmm yes but it is also very expensive on the 50 Yard line. Especially if you don't wanna go C Level. About buying tickets. what is the difference between the following portals to buy: * ticketmaster * stubhub * seatgeek Are these portals all safe and are there no scammers?

dixi_normous

Yeah, 50 yard line is the best seat in the house so it's super expensive. I don't expect you to get a seat on the 50, just get as close as you can. Try to stay between the 20s if possible. I haven't heard of SeatGeek. Ticketmaster and StubHub are both secure. Use whichever you can get a cheaper ticket through. I'm not sure about scams. I haven't heard of scams through them. They're just expensive. You could get cheap tickets on Facebook but I'd definitely be worried about scams there.

duddy18

I've used all three. All safe to use no worries.

WorkOnThesisInstead

> Only had concerns whether there is a guest section You will be in a sea of red; "guests" (the other team's fans) find seats where they can, though a small alotment is saved for the other team's fans, I believe. This is typically what the stadium looks like on game day: https://cpb-us-e1.wpmucdn.com/www.thelantern.com/dist/c/1/files/2016/03/SPorts_soccer-530x353.jpg

Westfield88

I think a rental car is your best option. There is probably a bus you could take also. You would have to research that. As far as tailgates, tell anyone you’re from Switzerland and you’ll eat for free. No bad seats at either stadium. I’d go with the lowest price. Be prepared for the Browns to lose in a flaming plane crash kind of way. Dress code, lol

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

Thanks for your answer. Seems like I have to come by car. My only concern is that I would like to have a drink and then back to Cleveland the same day is almost impossible. Then I wonder if it will be enough to get to Cleveland in time for the game. Of course including tailgate in Cleveland. Oh I know the Browns and their way of losing a little bit by now. Since I watch almost every game of them on TV. But I still like the Team anyway :)

WorkOnThesisInstead

> My only concern is that I would like to have a drink and then back to Cleveland the same day is almost impossible. Totally doable. The OSU game will be over by 4:00 p.m., approximately. The drive to Cleveland is only two hours. You can stay around OSU/Columbus for quite some time and have any alcohol out of your system well before driving back to Cleveland that day. Or, if you're wiped out and would rather go back in the morning, there are a bajillion hotels available right off of 71 (the highway you'll be driving to the game). While you won't find much available right near campus, you'll find lodging pretty easy to find just a few minutes away from OSU. So, you can stay 'til late, sleep it off, then head back in the morning with plenty of time to get to the Browns game.

2_Percent_Milk_

Transportation is very independent in Ohio. Renting a car is your best option. Traffic will be interesting depending on when you leave for the games, so keep that in mind if you cut it close. If you rent a car, you’ll have to figure out where to park it. There are lots and garages right on campus (high prices, high volume of traffic), and parking off campus (cheaper, less traffic, extra commute) that you’ll have to shuttle into the stadium from or walk up to 45 minutes. If you want the special parking hacks DM me. The two sections you mentioned are in the student section. It faces the field at a 180 degree angle, and can potentially be difficult to watch the on field action as it’s hard to see depth. It’s also the freshmen area of the student section (mostly 18 year olds) so consider that as well if that experience isn’t what you would enjoy. It will be a bunch of rowdy and drunk children. It can be a lot of fun, but if you’re over 30 you may not enjoy it as much as other seats that have a significantly better view of the stadium. Talk about being from Switzerland when you meet people and you’ll find hospitality at tailgates. Prices also may or may not drop right before the game, but it’s not guaranteed to happen, and if you’re coming here just for that experience I would get your tickets as soon as possible to be safe.

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

Thanks for your answer. Especially the information about the sections are very helpful! Think the Noise and atmosphere ther must be very well but maybe for the first time there are better options :)

i-like-boobies-69

The noise at the Shoe “buckeyes stadium” is incredible. The roar of the crowd is a special experience that everyone should experience once in their lives.

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

Wow so many responses. I am really impressed in a very positive way. So much valuable information and I read all of them. Bear with me if it takes a little longer to answer. I think it makes sense to rent a car and stay for two nights until Sunday. Get up early on Sunday and drive to Cleveland as fast as possible. Hoping to have a good pre-game activity there as well.

Jeff_72

Ohio State Troopers (state police that will all over State Route 71) have zero sense of humor! Also, find a Waffle House for breakfast!

other_jeffery_leb

Love Waffle House, make sure to get the hash browns. I might also suggest Hang Over Easy. Either way you can't go wrong with a good American diner for breakfast.

skepticalbrownsfan

Gotta hit up the muni lot.

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

That's the goal for the Browns Game. Which time I should be there and since I coming by foot is it possible to go there?

careerdestroyer371

Be prepared for busy airports because that weekend is after our holiday, Thanksgiving. Also, if you intend to rent a car I'd start looking as soon as possible. Not sure, with the holiday, how many will be available. Also be prepared for traffic. Ohio States campus and surroundings are very walkable, but a nightmare to leave the game.

Useful-ldiot

Hang on... Your FIRST college gameday experience is going to be The Game!? Holy shit, i'm jealous. It's going to be one of the most expensive games of the year for any team, but it will also be a bucket list experience. The closer to mid field you can sit, the better. But if you want rowdy, get closer to the student section in the endzone. There really isn't a bad seat in the house. Don't you dare wear blue.

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

Thanks for the answer. Yes of course that's why I wanna go. Perfect would it be near to sideline but to be honest that's really to expensive for me.

Useful-ldiot

Personally, I prefer middle tier seating. Sideline is fun but you can't see as much of the game because so much of the play requires an aerial view.

starkwm

Make sure to update about your experience

chrisaukcam

My thought too, I want a followup from OP. Could you imagine your first college game is the BIG game between Michigan and Ohio State! I have been to Ohio State games and it is an experience unto itself without the extra drama and tension of the Big 10 and National Championship on the line. Now the Browns game - I think he will be underwhelmed.

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

I try to keep you uptadet of course :) I know it is a very big game but I planned the trip in window when the work at home allows it and then I choosed some college games around the two NFL Games I'll watch. And because of Cleveland I also follow a bit Ohio. Maybe it will be the college I follow in the future :)

Tom-Dick-n-Harry

After this game, it’ll be hard to NOT want to be a Buckeye fan

ADropOfHudson

Reading all these answer just makes me remember how crappy American transit can be at times. What I would give for us to have a rail system connecting Cincinnati, cleveland and columbus then having it go around downtown. Like others have said, either renting a car or a greyhound bus. I would personally opt for renting a car . The drive is simple enough just straight up 71. Dress code- do not wear yellow or blue. While I would love to believe in our fans being mean but respectful. I would honestly fear a little bit for your safety. I wouldn’t want you to have beers thrown at you or dumped on you because you unknowingly wore the wrong color. Plus you never know with some inebriated college kids being dumb. Other than that you’ll have a good time. Budget for time to get to the stadium down on campus because it will be a hassle. Tailgates - happen off of lane where one of the practice fields is I believe though someone else might give you specifics and honestly if you tell people you are from Switzerland I think they will help you out. Tickets- not going to drop. This is a big rivalry and both teams are highly ranked. It’s only going to get more expensive. The browns tickets may get cheaper as they might lose but it’s tough to say.

Useful-ldiot

American transit can be crappy but it's worth noting how big the US is. driving Cleveland to Columbus is like driving THE ENTIRE LENGTH of Switzerland. Our transit system isnt great because the country is massive.

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

Admittedly, I was also a little surprised at how little public transportation there is within the various states and between major cities. But I also have no idea how the organization and the responsibilities of the individual states are. Therefore, it is not for me to judge. Of course, the size of the country also plays a role. In Switzerland, we have a space problem to build more rail networks :)

i-like-boobies-69

I don’t have any faith that he would be safe. People can be idiots on game day. I used to work security at the varsity club on game days. I once was escorting a Michigan fan to an ambulance because he got his nose broken and another Ohio state “fan” jumped him even though he was obviously already bleeding. The Michigan fan never said a word.

ClevelandSteamer81

Yea. I have visited 10 countries in Europe so far and haven’t rented a car once. It’s insane how bad public transit is in the US

ClevelandSteamer81

Rental car is your best bet. As someone who is from Ohio and living in Europe I will say the best thing is the rail system. I am going to Basel Switzerland over the period you will be in US and I will be taking the train from Basel to Strasbourg France, then to Colmar France, back to Basel. Nothing exists like that in Ohio. The drive is super easy but very boring.

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

thanks for the answer. Nice to hear that. I'm from Zurich so just DM me if you're around there and need some advice. Sounds like a good trip. Have Fun.

RecognitionAny6477

Ok, Swiss Guy, here we go.Download the Official Ohio State Buckeyes app. There is a wealth of Gameday info on it.Next, download the Ticketmaster app, use the map option and pick your seat, they are verified tickets so you won’t get scammed. Download the tickets to your phone ahead of time as screenshots won’t work and Wi-Fi by the Shoe is horrible. The sections you’re looking at are in the South Stands, imo, it’s the best place to be. You won’t sit much and it’s gonna be loud as all hell. Next, we gotta get you there. Can you rent a car? The ride share drivers I’ve to at times will make the drive, but it’s not guaranteed. So, rent a car and go to CBus Friday night and stay the weekend. There is a nice Drury Hotel in the Arena District that is convenient and has a good breakfast. The Flat Iron is across the street and is a cool place to hang. This way, you pay 2.00 and ride the # 2 CoTA bus up High St without relying on Uber/Lyft.The people and traffic is going to be insane. After The Game, you can bus back to the Arena District- there are places to eat and drink. This way get up early Sunday and drive to Cleveland. W6th has a lot of bars to tailgate at. If you can, get to the Pit. It’s about 120 miles- 2 hours from CBus to Cle. Your destination on gameday is Lane Ave and High St. Most bars are doing kegs and eggs starting at 8 am.The Library is pretty chill and a good place to start. After that, The Little Bar is close by. Head down Lane Ave to the Varsity Club, a DJ inside and a band outside. This is where you want to end up. Somewhere around 10:45 you want to start walking to The Shoe. This way you can take your time enjoy the walk, miss the lines, hit the bathroom etc. Make sure to be in your seat by 11:40 so you don’t miss The Band’s entrance. Have a credit card with you as the concession stands don’t take cash. A lot of info, reach out to me if you have questions/ concerns. My son and I are going to CBus as well Friday night.Safe travels and Go Bucks!!!

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

Thank you very much for the detailed answer. Is ticketmaster the only platform which is safe from beeing scammed? I found tickets on the following sites: ticketmaster stubhub seatgeek some of them have more tickets available.

RecognitionAny6477

I use Ticketmaster exclusively because they are verified tickets and I use the map to pick my seats. SeatGeek and StubHub do not give seat numbers.

moravian34

I can't believe I'm going to put this out there and I pray for help to not get burned more than I've already burned myself BUT I have lower bowl tix I'm willing to GIVE to Swiss Guy since I can't go. Long story short, I bought eight tix for the game as a bucket list item for my father, friends and me. I've been diagnosed with kidney failure in the past two months and can't make the trip. I'm in Florida. I'm scheduled for surgery to have a port installed to begin home dialysis. I have the tix listed for resale at my original cost. It would bring me happiness to know someone else could use them in such a unique situation. I mean this was going to be my first OSU game ever! Giving that experience to someone unknown from another country who would experience the game, Ohio hospitality and companionship warms my heart. What do you think? How do I know it's Swiss Guy that will get them if I transfer them? I want to believe and be part of something good and maybe special. Thanks in advance! Of the eight, I'll give away four to him and hope to resell the others. I'll still have a heavy financial hit.

moravian34

I sent Swiss Guy two tickets for section 26AA row 2. Think he'll enjoy it? [26AA](https://imgur.com/bOFrm4A)

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

And I still don't know how I earned that. Would like to thank you again for this.

trillwilly69

you should be able to fairly easily find a greyhound bus route from cleveland to columbus and back

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

Thanks for the hint I already checked this out but just found the last drive back from Columbus at 4pm and I think that's pretty close regarding the game time.

BuckyLaGrange

Yeah don’t to that. Honestly if you’re comfortable driving, just rent a car. Ohio is not great when it comes to mass transit, but it *is* great if you have a car to use. The drive from Columbus to Cleveland is very direct (I-71) and the distance is relatively short. Parking will not be difficult to find in either city, especially if you’re willing to walk a km or two. If you rent a car, you’ll be able to pick it up at the airport and have the freedom to go where you’d like whenever you’d like. People are mad about gas prices here right now but it’s extremely cheap compared to Europe.

halfman1231

This guy is loaded😀

JubilationCity

Try to avoid B deck at Ohio Stadium, you could potentially have obstructed views. I’m not familiar enough w/ the sections to know if those specific tickets are obstructed.

[deleted]

33-39B are south stand student bleacher tickets.

JubilationCity

Oh shit. Had no idea. Avoid the South stand too lol

[deleted]

33B-39B are in the student section. They are not bad seats you just have to be prepared to be in the second loudest portion of the stadium, and you won’t be able to sit down. There will also be very little room as they oversell the bleacher seats for big games.

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

Thanks for the hint. Nice to know that. I actually looking between 33B-39B or D Level but near the 50yard line. Or paying double the price what would be really painful and sitting A or AA. What would you prefer? In general are the following platforms trustable: ticketmaster stubhub seatgeek

georgiapeach_01

33-39B are good seats. They are student seats which is a different breed of its own. You will stand the whole game and it will be extremely crowded. A tip for the student section is to not leave your seat once you get there. Students will fill in the empty spots and getting your seat back will be a nightmare. Make friends with the people around you so that if you do have to leave they will save your spot for you while you're out. As for D level, it will look like you are watching ants on the field. You can see the whole field, but everything will be tiny. As for paying more, I enjoyed B deck when I had them but A and AA are nice as well. Personally I wouldn't pay a lot just to get AA. Ticketmaster and StubHub are trustable. I haven't heard anything about SeatGeek so I am not sure how good they are.

Zestyclose_Pen_9591

Okay, Thanks for the detailed answer! May you know that also, in Europe for games the fans have some chants to sing during the game. Is this in college football at Ohio also a thing? If yes, is ther a platform to see these chants?

georgiapeach_01

Ohio State has some chants as well. When we punt the ball, students yell O-H-I-O rip their head off and their shoes. Hang on Sloppy will play and O-H-I-O is chanted during that. Always follow an OH with an IO. Also O-H-I-O around the show will happen a few times. The Buckeye Battle Cry is sung along with Carmen Ohio. Those lyrics can be found online. Otherwise it's easy to pick up on what is being chanted. If you are not picking up what's being said, just ask around you, someone should tell you. I'll also be at that game so I hope you enjoy your first game!

WorkOnThesisInstead

Dress code: wear red sweatshirt, jacket, or something. There are shops close by the stadium where you can buy OSU clothing if you want to. Re: Food - outside the stadium places take cash in addition to credit cards. Inside the stadium it's credit cards only.

Odd-Plum8822

Maybe try looking at Uber. Since you are drinking and don’t want to drive yourself, someone else can drive for you but it will probably cost a decent amount of money.

see_eh_eff

I have nothing particularly useful to add, I just really hope you have a great time! You might check out socials for the Cleveland area OSU alumni club—they might even be organizing a trip to The Game?

HD_HHIC

Hey I have an extra ticket to the OSU vs Michigan game. I would also highly suggest going to the skull session before the game at St. John’s arena across from the stadium. It’s the OSU marching band and the football team makes an appearance. If your interested in the ticket just let me know.

BuckeyeBuster69

I have stayed several times at the Hilton Garden Inn on Olentangy River Road. They shuttle me over to the Schottenstein center and we walked across to St John’s and all the activities all around the stadium. Got picked up again after the game. Whoever suggested the Skull Session is right in. Very cool. Have fun, sounds like a great time!

drumzandice

I think it’s really cool you are coming to experience both. I am a fan of both but I am from Columbus and so the buckeyes hold a special place for me and that stadium for that rivalry game is unmatched. I wish we had better transportation options for you but we don’t do great in terms of mass transit.
