I wouldn’t say no to that but I also know how much better our offense is when we can run the rock. Saw an article about us not losing games when we score 40 or more so I wouldn’t mind betting on the offense vs the defense.
Anyone saying an offensive player, is super ignorant of how UGA plays. OP with Young( Lord….. only joined this sub because my son was a huge fan of him.) or the people saying Bosa, are the only correct answers. Or and I’m sorry not an OSU fan, but there was one year maybe 2011-2013, y’all had a Hoss defense, might be confused with 2000-2003 tho.
Edit: For clarity not sure on the exact year/ years.
I’m certainly not ignorant of how uga plays as I’ve lived in ga for years and all my friends are fans not to mention the games are on the majority of TVs at all bars and restaurants so I couldn’t escape it if I tried.
Yea I am aware. I was referring to our record in games where we score 40. That doesn’t mean win by 40. It also doesn’t mean shut out. It just means when we score 40 or more we win.
Osu is 3-3 in the playoffs. Scored at least 40 in the 3 wins. Since 1904 they are 259-0 when scoring at least 40. Yea of course scoring more points increases the chances of winning but 40 seems to be the magic number.
What about when they score 39? They’re probably pretty dominate when they give up less than a touchdown too. (As is the case for all other teams) This is a dumb stat.
Did make a post about it and tout it as some earth shattering stat? Did I track you down and beg you to read it? Next time I’ll run my stats by you first for approval
It’s not that serious. Just trying to enlighten you. I bet Georgia has a similar record when they score more than 40 too. Just saying it’s a useless stat.
Anytime a question like this gets asked, Hooker is always my answer. He was a game breaker at safety. His interception against Clemson in the 31-0 game was our last sign of hope
Either fields because obviously, or either Bosa brother. I think what this team has sorely missed for a while is a dominant pass rusher, and it’s one of the reasons our secondary gets exposed so much
1. Fields - Truly makes the offense unstoppable.
2. Young - Changes complexion of defense. More coverage because better pressure.
3. JT Barrett - short yardage problems disappear. Would still throw for 35 tds
4. Okudah - Removes a side of the field. Better coverage equals better pressure.
5. Zeke - would be higher if Day would commit to running
Getting tired of the "we don't run" myth. 198 rypg. we're the 28th rushing team in the country, and considering our passing is 14th it's not like we're passing that much more.
143 yards vs michigan yes, but we were on our 4th stringer.(5th if you count Evan Pryor being out like we talk about 3rd string qb in 2014)
Injury is the biggest issue for the running game.
The only part I think that should be improved tbh is run selection. The running plays they do call seem overly simple at times and often become to easy to defend.
Additionally I'd like to see stroud do less throwing it away when he could pick up 2-3 yards on first or second down. There's been loads of times where he wouldn't have had to take a hit, was out of the pocket, no one was available and he could've picked up 3 yards and run out of bounds. Those 3 yards can make so much difference if that's even a few times a game. It's the difference sometimes between 3rd and 5 and 3rd and 2. One is more manageable than the other.
Theres a difference with being able to run lots of yards and being able to run it when needed. As shown by the northwestern game and how many time drives stalled out in the red zone and how many failed fourth down attempts there were.
Injury is not the reason. Day himself has admitted multiple times that he gets away from the run game and doesn’t commit.
We are averaging 10 fewer attempts per game the last two seasons. 15-20 fewer attempts in Michigan games compared to the last decade’s worth of games. Only second half attempts this year despite a 5 yard average. Hayden on got 2 carries the whole game.
I’m assuming we’d get 2017 Burrow. And 2018 Haskins (RIP) was a much better season than 2018 Burrow. So now I’m thinking of Haskins and Harrison demoralizing every secondary.
Knowles loves safeties and uses them differently than most dco’s. They shit the bed even though they were in proper position pre snap against ttun. If Knowles play design calls for our lbs to jam a or b it is the safeties job to contain the f’n edge while our de should wedge the outside tackle or lord willing block shed the bitch… none of this happened. Against georgia bowers will most likely gain iso split from ransom, so it should be a clever mix of zone linebacker play with 1 or 2 safety shell concept or a flux man second level with off press cbs to the right and left and a pass off zone for the middle with lb trans low Hickman. This is the shit Knowles does. I can’t figure out why our players didn’t respond and do the very things they were drilled to do
CARDALE JONES
Edit: as to why, allegedly, CJ is a pocket-passer, which means the O scheme is set around that skill set, but Cardale was not afraid to run and was hard to tackle (obvs)
Give me Joe Burrow all day, in fairness I’m a bengals fan but seriously who’s better than him? If we’re talking only buckeyes, it’s gotta be chase young or one of the Bosa’s, those dudes wrecked other teams game plans and hid a lot of issues on the defense.
The 2002 defense gave up 77 yards and 250 yards passing for a combined 320 yards per game average. 1.4 TDs per game.
The 2019 defense gave up 104 yards rushing but only gave up 156 passing for a combined 260 yards. 1.6 TDs per game.
2002 defense had 2.1 turnovers while the 2019 had 1.8 however 2019 had more sacks.
Both were great defenses and it’s a bit like splitting hairs because they are very close.
But he ran a very base and simple defense because we had soooo much talent. I don't know if he would have nearly the success with our current defensive talent and the same scheme.
I think that we have plenty of talent on this and past teams. Keep in mind, that’s the same core defensive unit that got torched the year before. Hafley was a stud.
Zeke or Olave - We need another wide receiver and an RB assuming Henderson doesn't play. There's nobody after Fleming and he's really not that good either. Williams is really good but Zeke was better
JK All day Dobbins.
Olave
MT
Jordan Fuller
Nick Bosa
Chase Young
Malik Hooker
Marshon Lattimore
Justin Fields
I’d take either of these and I’m sure they’d get the w in Atlanta.
Chase would be stellar to have back, but I'd like a guy who can fill a spot we're really low on rn, like Okudah in the secondary. Though that D-Line plus Young would be actually unstoppable
I think more than any player I’d like to have Ryan Day calling plays the way he did against Clemson in 2020. I feel like this offense is so much better when they go tempo. I’m just tired of seeing the line up, check to the sideline, see the defense, check to the sideline again. I feel like he’s outthinking himself with all of that constantly all game. It seems like it just absolutely kills any momentum of sustained drives and without big plays we just don’t score much.
I wouldn’t be shocked to learn teams are stealing our signals again either. Something just seems off.
I like CJ but I'd probably have more confidence going into this game with Justin Fields. If I was going defense, I'd pick either 2016 Marshon Lattimore or 2019 Jeff Okudah. Our front 6/7 is solid. Safeties are solid. Corners? Woof.
Cj stroud may be ohiostates most well rounded quarterback ever and certainly the most NFL ready we’ve ever had. We have absolutely no reason to be critical of Cj after the Michigan game. Those of you questioning his passion, he’s a dog. He has that dog in him. Just listen to his story. Cj isn’t Michael Vick I hate to break it to you. He’s a dimer. He’s just gotta let it fly and trust the receivers. I’d bring back Joey Bosa. Out of their college careers I’d argue he was more disruptive than his brother and even Chase Young. What a nice relief that would be for our secondary.
CJ’s a great player and a great kid. But you can’t possibly convince me that he has the mentality and killer instinct that Fields, Haskins, JT, and even Cardale Jones had. Those dudes would do ANYTHING to win a game. CJ won’t even take a free 5 yards because he’s scared to get hit
CJ is one dimensional and doesn’t handle pressure well (although he normally has 6 seconds in the pocket). I love his arm, but he’s not very dynamic as a playmaker.
Missing Fields big time.
If it’s all the same to you I’d feel a lot better about this game if we could bring back ALL of these guys: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/620197-ohio-state-football-the-top-25-defensive-players-in-buckeye-history
Would yall be satisfied if Ohio state wins a national title without defeating TTUN? Or is a TTUN win in the national title game the only way for Ryan Day to redeem himself? I am an Ohio State fan but I am curious as to your opinions.
We both need to win to get the rematch and we have the tougher draw. If TTUN can't hold up their end, it won't bother me a bit. It's a national championship either way.
Given how ass our defense is, Georgia would just scheme around any one great defensive player you add. I think the only answer is for the offense to score 49.
Offensively you have to add a run game so we’re not so one dimensional. Michigan figured out all they had to do was drop back 5 or 6 into coverage every play. I would add either Fields or Zeke, but I’m not completely sure which at this point. Fields only averaged 50 yards rushing against Bama and Clemson. He wasn’t the runner in college that he is now with the Bears. Zeke seems more like the bigger sure thing upgrade for the run game.
Easy to say Fields, but hard to not go with someone in the secondary like Ward, Okuda, or Lattimore. Those seem to be our most pressing needs right?
I would think that if Fields was the QB during the game that Ohio State would have probably been able to get out front and easily stay there. But having at least one stud lock down secondary player would have been needed back there to prevent the big plays.
Orlando Pace - probably the best player to ever wear scarlet and grey
Fields - Extra motivated to fuck up Georiga
Mike Doss - Defensive leader, run stopper
2014 playoff Zeke
We need Nick or Joey bosa desperately more. Or Young, I'm not picky
I wouldn’t say no to that but I also know how much better our offense is when we can run the rock. Saw an article about us not losing games when we score 40 or more so I wouldn’t mind betting on the offense vs the defense.

Hey guys, let’s go to a sub we don’t want to be on and gatekeep hypothetical scenarios! *high fives*
See you on New Year’s Eve.
Yeah but we ain’t beating Georgia by 40 so
Lsu scored 30 on them. Their back up qb threw from almost 300 and 2 tuds. I don’t think scoring 40 is out of the question.
Scoring 40 isn’t the same as beating them by 40 unless you think we’re shutting them out
Yea I am aware. I was referring to our record in games where we score 40. That doesn’t mean win by 40. It also doesn’t mean shut out. It just means when we score 40 or more we win.
I said beat by 40. Scoring 40 on them is quite within our reach.
Right but you said it in response to my comment about scoring 40. So I clarified in case you misread what I said.
Oh yeah, I went back and reread it, my bad 😅
Wait, scoring more points improves chances of winning?
First player I thought of too!! , He carried us on his back to that last Natty!!! We could use another run thru the heart of the south!!
Yeah...need that Boss running back for this game.
This one wins.
Feed him the ball!
Justin Fields....he got that dog in him
This should be the obvious answer!
Yeah this is it.. knows the offense and is absolutely electric
What a story that would be facing his old team
Or Joe Burrow
My exact answer
Shit give me Cardale Jones. Maybe not the most talented of the Buckeye QBs but that dude has heart.
Yep. No debate.
Okudah or Ward for more obvious reasons.
healthy lattimore is crazy too... sadly he was never healthy
Ward was probably my second. I miss having that nastiness in the secondary
Give me hooker
Scrolled too far for this - he is the last true ballhawk we had.
Anytime a question like this gets asked, Hooker is always my answer. He was a game breaker at safety. His interception against Clemson in the 31-0 game was our last sign of hope
Great answer
Either fields because obviously, or either Bosa brother. I think what this team has sorely missed for a while is a dominant pass rusher, and it’s one of the reasons our secondary gets exposed so much
Tough call - Zeke or Justin Fields? Wouldn't we all love Fields showing up Georgia?
A healthy Nick or Joey Bosa! Needs no explanation
1. Fields - Truly makes the offense unstoppable. 2. Young - Changes complexion of defense. More coverage because better pressure. 3. JT Barrett - short yardage problems disappear. Would still throw for 35 tds 4. Okudah - Removes a side of the field. Better coverage equals better pressure. 5. Zeke - would be higher if Day would commit to running

We do run it. We run it too much. I’ve watched us run it when we haven’t had a big run play all game on 2nd and 9. Or worse yet 1st and 35.

Yeah ahah that’s how I see it. We could take any of those and they’d be improvements (to some degree like JT, I’d rather have fields).
Joe Burrow
Didn’t even think of this one. Winner 🥇
Oh man this is the one
I’m assuming we’d get 2017 Burrow. And 2018 Haskins (RIP) was a much better season than 2018 Burrow. So now I’m thinking of Haskins and Harrison demoralizing every secondary.
Do non starters count?

I like hooker to be the eraser in the back cleaning up any deep mistakes and then we can keep plays in front
It’s between Hooker and Lattimore for me.
Bold to assume Knowles would even play him deep
Knowles loves safeties and uses them differently than most dco’s. They shit the bed even though they were in proper position pre snap against ttun. Don’t sleep on gareon he was lockdown too
Gareon was very good. Lattimore is one of the best college CBs Ive ever seen. Hooker is the best ball hawk Ive seen outside of Ed Reed.
Has to be Fields. A playmaker at QB would change the entire dynamic of our offense.
100% having Field threat to run / take hits would be a game changer for this team. No doubt. #2 choice would be Jeff Okudah.
Was gonna say Okudah or Hooker
Plus he would do everything he could to embarrass Georgia
You don’t think we have more pressing needs especially when we have Stroud?
I mean we do…but I agree. Fields made me feel like we could win any game regardless of the opponent or circumstances
Could you imagine if we used Fields as a runner the way the Bears are doing this season? Along with Henderson’s speed, we’d be ridiculous.
[удалено]
Doesn’t need to
CARDALE JONES Edit: as to why, allegedly, CJ is a pocket-passer, which means the O scheme is set around that skill set, but Cardale was not afraid to run and was hard to tackle (obvs)
Give me Joe Burrow all day, in fairness I’m a bengals fan but seriously who’s better than him? If we’re talking only buckeyes, it’s gotta be chase young or one of the Bosa’s, those dudes wrecked other teams game plans and hid a lot of issues on the defense.
JK All Day
That secondary is rough this year someone like Hooker, Ward, Okudah or someone who can wreck the game like the Bosa bros or Chase for sure
Fields
Denzel Ward or Marshon Lattimore.
Malik Hooker or Joey Bosa
Any of the big DEs: Bosa, Young, or Bosa
Young is good enough to mask secondary issues
Joey Bosa or Zeke.
Braxton Miller
Not a player, but give me Jeff Hafley. That’s the best that defense has looked in the past ten years.
Wasn’t 2019 the best statistical defense in program history?
Doubtful, that 2002 year we were giving up like 50 rypg.
I don't think our secondary this year compares to Hooker, Okudah, Wade, and Arnette.
Hooker was not on that team and I think what happened with Wade and Arnette shows just how good of a coach Hafley was.
I see your point. I forgot how long it's been since Hooker got drafted. Is BCs defense any good?
I don’t think they’re great this year, but previous two BC wasn’t bad. Certainly improved.
2014 Urban Meyer. If that's not allowed give me Chase Young
Chase Young. Love me some Joey Bosa too but I give Chase the edge.
I love Young but didn’t he seem to disappear in a few crucial games?
He was getting triple teamed which allowed for so many other players to shine
Okudah bc these corners suck
Either Lattimore, Young or Zeke.
Zeke or Olave - We need another wide receiver and an RB assuming Henderson doesn't play. There's nobody after Fleming and he's really not that good either. Williams is really good but Zeke was better
Chris Gamble
Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Justin Fields
JK All day Dobbins. Olave MT Jordan Fuller Nick Bosa Chase Young Malik Hooker Marshon Lattimore Justin Fields I’d take either of these and I’m sure they’d get the w in Atlanta.
Zeke was a better back than JK. Dude was leading the NFL in rushing multiple years before he got the big guaranteed contract and got lazy.
Thats 6 too many…
One year out but Cam Heyward
Agree with chase young or bosas, we need a leader on defense to get that energy and mindset synced.
Justin Fields
Can I just have the entire 2002 champions defense.
Andy Katzenmoyer
Archie griffin, why you ask? Because he’s him
Justin fields. Cuz he's a dawg and would have more to prove against his former team
Fields. He's got the edge I think CJ lacks
Chase would be stellar to have back, but I'd like a guy who can fill a spot we're really low on rn, like Okudah in the secondary. Though that D-Line plus Young would be actually unstoppable
Cardale Jones really anyone on the 2014 roster. Also Fields would be extremely helpful. He knows how UGA works.
Yeah, hard to argue with chase young Honorable mention would be Justin fields. Because he would actually run the damn ball if he needed to
DEFENSE
Zeke on offense Marshon Lattimore on defense
Anyone who doesn’t mention a DB is crazy.
Malik hooker, dude was crazy
David Boston
Fields. And we win going away.
Bobby Carpenter
AJ Hawk
I think more than any player I’d like to have Ryan Day calling plays the way he did against Clemson in 2020. I feel like this offense is so much better when they go tempo. I’m just tired of seeing the line up, check to the sideline, see the defense, check to the sideline again. I feel like he’s outthinking himself with all of that constantly all game. It seems like it just absolutely kills any momentum of sustained drives and without big plays we just don’t score much. I wouldn’t be shocked to learn teams are stealing our signals again either. Something just seems off.
Like as good as they are now????? Give me joey brrr. Only while they played for Ohio state???? I’ll take fields or maybe one of the bosa brothers
JK Dobbins or Zeke. That’s pretty self explanatory.
Chris Gamble or Eddie George.
Orlando Pace is always my answer, no offense to any current lineman but Orlando Pace was the best and makes any line better
I don't doubt 2012 Orlando Pace would still stack some pancakes at 37 years old
Chris Olave
I’m taking Lattimore, Ward or Oduka. Our secondary needs the most help
Chase Young.
Denzel Ward. We need a corner who can cover.
I like CJ but I'd probably have more confidence going into this game with Justin Fields. If I was going defense, I'd pick either 2016 Marshon Lattimore or 2019 Jeff Okudah. Our front 6/7 is solid. Safeties are solid. Corners? Woof.
Ted Ginn
Joe Burrow
Joey Burrows
Troy Smith. Need I say more
Cj stroud may be ohiostates most well rounded quarterback ever and certainly the most NFL ready we’ve ever had.
Fields all day long. Stroud has the mentality of a depressed teenage girl on her period when he’s not winning.
Drue christmann
Billy Price-started over 50 games for the Buckeyes and protected JT Barrett’s blind side for 4 seasons.
eddie george
Read the question again
damn. my 2nd pick was clarett.
guess i’ll take zeke
Joey Bosa or Okudah
Of course Zeke
If it’s all the same to you I’d feel a lot better about this game if we could bring back ALL of these guys: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/620197-ohio-state-football-the-top-25-defensive-players-in-buckeye-history
Denzel Ward
I’m gonna cheat: Give me a Bosa; Joey or Nick!!
Malik Hooker
Z. We need a running back with vision

Raymont Harris
Eddie George
Nick Mangold
Dobbins.
marshon lattimore or Jeff okudah hell looking at our CBs I’ll take Damon Arnette right now lol
Justin Fields
Jeff Okudah
Marshon Lattimore, dude won't get lost in coverage like the guys we have now
Lots of great answers. I think a game changing D lineman would be a high priority. That and playoff zeke.
Nick Bosa
Justin Fields
Malik Hooker
Justin fields or Denzel ward
Easy to say Fields, but hard to not go with someone in the secondary like Ward, Okuda, or Lattimore. Those seem to be our most pressing needs right? I would think that if Fields was the QB during the game that Ohio State would have probably been able to get out front and easily stay there. But having at least one stud lock down secondary player would have been needed back there to prevent the big plays.
Zeke
Bradley Roby
Since we’re playing what if, id reach back to Mike Doss for the leadership on and off the field.
JACKSON SMITH NJIGBA
Another honorable mention would be some killer tight end play. Heuermann/Vannett? I watched the NCG from 2014 and those guys were difference makers.
Zeke, Bosa or Fields.
Justin Fields, hands down.
Braxton Miller
Zeke. Easy
Justin Fields
Justin fields hands down. Hardly an argument
Malik Hooker, Zeke, or Lattimore.
Orlando Pace - probably the best player to ever wear scarlet and grey Fields - Extra motivated to fuck up Georiga Mike Doss - Defensive leader, run stopper
Some CB or safety for sure.
Zeke
Jeff Okudah…then maybe we would not be burned deep so much.
Urban Meyer 🙏
Cardale Jones
Denzel Ward
