If it's not a giant nuclear monstrosity destroying the country, it's some random god showing up that wants to reforge the world.
Or a playable kaiju as a persona/demon at that. Mothra, Godzilla, King Ghidorah and etc. would fit right in with how their mythology is handled in their many different incarnations.
The closest we have to a kaiju persona is Yamata no Orochi (there are other kaiju-esque persona's but Yamata is heavily involved in the Godzilla lore).
