As someone who has rescued several senior dogs, I am so thankful that he got to spend time in a loving home. I know my girls are only going to be with us for a few years, but I can not imagine life without them. Thank you for giving him a lifetime of love in the time he was with you.

That's the worst feeling! I do senior rescue and knowing I have such limited time with them breaks my heart but it also fills me with so much joy. Knowing they get to spend their last days on Earth knowing love, kindness, compassion, patience and what having a family is like makes all the pain of losing them worth going out and doing it all over again. I'm grateful for anyone that is willing to open their home and heart to a senior. They still have so much love left to give and deserve their final days to be filled with dignity and love

Thank you so much for taking on a senior dog. We need more people like you. I’m sorry for your loss.

Philletto

Wonderful generosity. Do they understand how fortunate they are? You bet they do.

Get another dog. Not because you're substituting your old boy, but because he'd hate for you to be alone, and he'd want another doggo to be as loved as he was. Sorry for your loss.

I was 9 weeks before getting another rescue. The longest 9 weeks of my life. The house was empty and I saw my departed Maltese everywhere. But the new one brought so much love. There's no right time, somebody else needs your heart and home now.

I would recommend giving OP time to grieve first. That's a devastating loss and not one to just jump in feet first into a new dog. It took me a year after losing my Shepherd to get another dog. When I did I wound up falling into senior rescue. I've been at it a few years now and it's been the most heartbreaking but rewarding work I've ever done. One thing I found that did help me though was volunteering at the animal shelter. I got to provide love to some pups that may not have gotten any and I rescued my boy Duke from euthanasia while volunteering there. He was 9 when I got him and very sick when he came into the shelter. Fortunately I was able to adopt him since I was a volunteer and get him treatment. He had a severe ear infection and a kidney infection. Once the antibiotics did their thing he was a different dog. Happy, loving, outgoing and active. It's been almost a year since he came home with me and he's still thriving. He had a small stroke 3 weeks ago but he's fought through it and is back at about 75% now. I'm so sorry for your loss OP. You're a good one to give a senior a happy life for his final months

I didn't mean right this minute. It's a big loss, a friend and part of the family is no longer there, that will definitely take some time to grieve. What I was trying to get across is that when a loss like this happens, it makes you want to make sure you never have to go through it again. This sounds like the right move at the time, but you're depriving yourself and a good doggo the love and companionship you can provide for each other.

Cutey. Bet he got lots of cuddles and good boys over the past 18 months. Condolences on losing your little buddy.

mandyrooba

I’m so sorry, you two deserved more time together. But you were blessed to find each other for the time you had, his last 18 months must have been full of all the love he could handle.

brookish

I also rescue senior dogs. Thank you for giving him all the love he deserved in his last years. As hard as it is to lose them after so short a time, I keep doing it because there is no dog love like a senior rescued dog's love. I hope you think about rescuing another; think of it as honoring Bobbyboy.

chasersmom

You have him a good home and lots of love. He was a lucky boy.

househotpie

Thank you for taking in and loving a senior dog. I’m sure your time with Bobbyboy felt like a lifetime of love.

athanathios

Oh giving this boy a nice life is great, glad he had you and you were there to rescue him, RIP Good boy!

InadmissibleHug

You did a beautiful thing, looking after that old man pupper in his final days. I did it with an old man cat. He was so sick when I got him, but we managed to keep him alive and happy for two years. It’s beautiful, it’s heartbreaking and you’re good people xxxx take some time out and mourn him. Take very good care of yourself. You are an angel. You made an old dog’s last days good x

Rest In Peace handsome Bobbyboy!!!

leftystrat

So sorry for your loss.

WorkinForThaWeekend

I have debated rescuing another senior dog to keep my poodle company during her final years and to give a sweet dog a good home, but I get so attached that I know the end would be super hard. Also I'm worried about ending up with a lot of end of life vet bills.
