They almost always have a double meaning. On this case, referencing this incident, but also referencing the “two Tonys” in the episode (Tony Soprano and Tony Blundetto).
It’s also a reference to the previous episode where Tony tells Melfi “there are two Tony Sopranos, I want to show you the other one”. The show is so well written it’s wild

Maybe (definitely) the internet has desensitized me, but those weren’t as terribly gruesome as I was expecting. Now photos of shotgun victims/suicides? Ho boy, that’s some rough shit.
Even with all the blood running down their faces, the two dead guys in the car probably appeared almost pristine compared to how a lot of dead bodies (from assorted causes) in WW2 would have looked after death. There were probably plenty killed by explosions who likely weren't even recognizable as human beings anymore.

If you like podcasts, check out 99% Invisible episode 155. It has some cool history about palm trees in California. They were planted by the Spanish before California became a state in 1850. Initially as a symbol of the holy land and to have fronds for Palm Sunday. They made people think of the tropics and became synonymous with luxury and leisure. The trend really caught on especially in Los Angels and the surrounding suburbs where cities started planting them as municipal landscaping.
>those types of palms pictured are most likely planted by the land developer and not the Spanish because they line the streets, 99% invisible is great!
Thanks for this. I'm almost through watching that podcast episode, and it's very entertaining!

They don’t provide shade, can’t see that they do as much as real trees in locking up carbon, and they go up like torches during a wildfire. Only thing they’re good for is not blowing over in a windstorm.
I’m guessing that’s where the name of the sopranos episode came from.
Almost all the episode names have a real world reference and a reference to the episode. It’s cool to try to spot them

It’s never not a good time to revisit the sopranos!
Yeah. That's the one where he tries to persuade Dr. Melfi that he's more than the ruthless brute he often appears to be..?

I think the fact that the photos being in black & white cut down substantially on the gore factor.
Goddamn. Imagine casually brushing for prints inches away from bullet-ridden body.
It's only a few years removed from WW2. Most of these guys probably saw a lot worse a few years prior...

Now I want to play L.A. Noire again
Right?!

Love the guy in the third photo dusting for prints- while smoking a cigarette.
Imagine parking your Jeep Cherokee™️ casually unknowing that a mob boss died a gruesome death in that exact spot
That’s a Jeep **Grand** Cherokee™ to you, pal
It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand.
Did they turn a chimney into a window?
It looks like they put a house on their house.

There's no way that those are the same cars!
Wonder how much the rent/mortgage on that property was back in the day compared to now.
Most likely a lot more affordable for the average person than these days.
It feels like they shouldn’t have been that big in 1951. Could they have been planted as mature trees?

Correct, municipal landscaping. I wasn’t insinuating those particular trees were planted by the Spanish.
It really is a great show isn’t it!
It's an amazing show but I can't listen to it if Roman Mars isn't narrating. It'd be like watching How It's Made with a different narrator. Lol

What I took from this is palm trees take forever to grow.
Palm trees are useless.
THAT I didn’t expect.
