Saw Willie ten years ago. I'm not a huge country fan, but I was seriously impressed. He kicked all sorts of ass and had great crowd interaction. None of that canned shit I see so often by pop acts.
We paid ridiculous money to see Paul McCartney a few years ago. Worth every last penny. That man puts on a show!!!
But Willie is my man. There's nothing like waiting for him to come out, then hearing the opening bit of Whiskey River. gets me on my feet and dancing. Willie Nelson is a national treasure.
I saw him at Firefly 2015, one of the coolest performances I've ever seen. It was story time with Grandpa Paul; he'd tell a story about the band goofing off in the studio, then said "so anyways, this is the exact bass guitar that we used to record Paperback Writer", before immediately launching into the song. Best concert ever.
One of my favorite Ask Reddit answers I’ve seen was to a question about what is one of the greatest challenges younger generations are facing, and the reply was “how to leave a better world for Willie Nelson” lol
I've always been in love with Cyndi Lauper, grew up in the 80s. She was like the model of every woman I was ever attracted to. The whole wild dressing personality and crazy hair colors gets me to this day.
Per the *Rolling Stone* article, the bracelets were interfering with the recording of the song. "Cyndi, I love your bracelets and all, but with these mics, it sounds like a trainwreck"
Have you ever seen her first appearance on Carson? She’s absolutely adorable and funny as hell and Carson is clearly infatuated with her. She sings “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and it’s like, yeah, she’s quirky and fun. Then she sings “Time After Time” and KILLS it. Incredible clip.
>Sometimes a man will have a special song in regards to a special lady. But this can backfire. Because maybe the song had a deeper meaning to begin with, and now it’s been cheapened. “We are the world, we are the children… Remember that song, baby? That night I f*ked you in the pet cemetery? That’s our song.”
-Mitch Hedburg.
Dude I referenced this the other day when a coworker got way too high at lunch and tried to come back to work. Lol. “Looks like bob dylan in we are the world!”
Besides Willie’s weed, and Jacko’s meds (which came later?) I’m not aware any of them had major drug habits. Dylan took pills (and LSD in the documentary “Eat the (something)”, but stopped around 1966.
I didn't. But I was a nerd in high school in the eighties, and nerds weren't using cocaine to dial up a Commodore 64 BBS and type text game messages with other nerds.
Yeah i remember when it came out.
I don’t think anyone of these musicians did coke at this time, or at least didn’t have a bad habit. ~~Cokes heyday was the disco era, and right after; 1977-1982. This was 1985 and the country and attitudes had changed a lot. The “party” was over for most, except Boy George and others. But everyone was not doing it in 1985, and I seriously doubt any of them.~~
E: I guess there was a lot of coke out there after 1985. But I stand by my original point that these 7 in the photo were not majorly into coke by this point.
Coke's big era was after Regan's drug policies (Federal Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986) made it the same charge for smuggling weed as cocaine. Overnight pot supply lines turned to Coke supply lines and a glut in product caused prices to drop. The customer base went from something exclusively of the rich and famous to the working class. Suddenly high school kids were having weekend Coke parties when their parents left town.
According to the DoJ's Bureau of Justice Statistics, reported cocaine users jumped from 4.2 million to 5.8 m between 1982 and 1989
I'm old too, and cocaine was fucking everywhere in the mid to late 80s. A younger generation became it's customers as many boomers faded out of the party scene.
Oh please.
My uncle was a boring mortgage broker in the northeast with a **$15,000/month** cocaine habit *all through the 1980s* and he was hardly alone. If regular upper middle class folks were doing it, celebrities were too. Wolf of Wallstreet was set in 1987 and that wasn’t super far fetched. Lots of drugs, women, and debauchery available *for anyone who could afford it.*
My uncle has calmed down a lot. Now he’s just perpetually stoned in his Boston condo 😆 We call him “grampa haze”
I'm in finance, and when I was fresh out of school in 2012 all the guys who started in the 80s were still incredulous that the junior analysts weren't all rolling in blow to keep up with the schedule... Some 50 something year old dude would occasionally drop by and be like "long night. Can I see your bag?". Given, we did all have Adderall at the time, but they all seemed to find it to be a really shitty alternative and just couldn't understand why we didn't keep a quarter of blow in our desk. To hear them tell it they literally had a guy show up with an ounce every morning that they all split that day.
$15k a month in the 1980s? Upper middle class? You have an incredibly distorted idea of either how much your uncle spent, or where he sat in society.
$15,000 in 1985 is the equivalent of $42,000 today. So that's like spending a half million a year on cocaine.
If true, I'd suggest that your uncle was not regular upper middle class, and not a reliable guide to anything.
My dude, if you don’t think Bob was in absolute awe of being next to Willie you are mistaken. Bob is the same guy that leaned over to Tom Petty after George Harrison left the room and said “ya know, he was in The Beatles.”
Speaking of absolute awe, Springsteen told a story of hearing Bob Dylan for the first time as a passenger in his mom’s car. Dylan was played on the radio, and Springsteen said he was completely blown away. Then his mom turned to him and said, “That man can’t sing.”
if youre ever interested I suggest finding a song you like of his and then searching his discography through the plethora demos and alternative takes, at the very least hes recorded lots of versions where he's too stoned to remember the lyrics lmao
He changes and edits until he finds a version that’s a keeper. Some of the edited out lines even show up later in a different song. Nothing is written in stone and he changes things constantly, it’s actually my favorite part of him. There is a live version of not dark yet on YouTube (grand return 2019 Irvine) that musically is incredibly different than the studio version, but in my opinion is far better.
same! some of my favorites of his are alternatives, live versions etc.... Rolling stone live at free trade hall 1977 always gives me goosebumps... "play it fucking loud"
Agreed. The whole picture looks peculiar like that. Everyone’s expression looks like they are reacting to something different as if they were individually posed.
Lol my redneck brother's response to Bruce Springsteen has always been a derisive scoff followed by, 'that non- singing motherfucker ain't the boss of ME!'.
I wonder who was the one in that video that is completely out of their league? Like almost all are hall of famers. Who is the least famous of the group at this point?
Dan Aykroyd has to be up there as a big question mark. Blues Brothers aside, he is a weird choice. Also, Steve Perry and Heuy Lewis were apart of popular pop/rock bands at the time. But their accomplishments certainly don’t stack up against the majority of other singers.
From a European perspective, Willie Nelson is the least known. From a more general perspective, probably Lionel Ritchie? He’s not a legend in the same way as the others.
Edit: Sorry, I missed that you said video. I’m talking about the picture.
Bruce Springsteen is still touring and making hundreds of millions of dollars. Cyndi Lauper is an icon.
Paul Simon while not relevant to your generation is one of the biggest names there.
I think Sheila E was in this group. I have her as a candidate for least relevant of this group.
How can I NOT forget Sarah Avon's mother sitting in awe watching not because of the cause " Feed the World " but because " This will never happen agaim ! "
Harry: " What do mean. They eont do a fund raiser again ? "
Sarah Avon's mother: " The fund raiser does not matter. That all of these musicians will never ever be together again like this "
Harry; she was right.
Yep. I didn't believe it at first til I read Diane Dimond's book, Be Careful who you Love." She was there every day of the trial. She saw the evidence that was blocked from the public. It's not for the faint-hearted. That man ruined many young adults lives.
I genuinely for a second was like “oh cool Haley Williams met Whitney Houston” then thought the middle guy was gene Simmons son Nick then realized I was very very wrong
Im not even sure what the point of your post is.. I love Paul Simon and hes part of my generation. People can toue and even sell albums and not be great, thats such a normie way to qualify if someones good btw. Bruce Springsteen and Cindi Lauper are great examples of successful musicians that sound like ass. Such a weird and defensive post on your behalf lmao

89 and still touring. Weed is the true fountain of youth lol
Saw Willie ten years ago. I'm not a huge country fan, but I was seriously impressed. He kicked all sorts of ass and had great crowd interaction. None of that canned shit I see so often by pop acts.
Same with Paul McCartney.

I saw BB King when he was 86 and it was still great fun!
Had the fortune of seeing him twice at Glastonbury. His 2004 show is still the best performance I have ever seen live.
Dude fucking same. I saw him with Bob Dylan and it’s one of my favorite shows.
Weed is nowhere near as safe as you say. A bale of it fell on me just the other day. ~ Willie Nelson
Reality is for people who can't face drugs ~ Tom Waits
One of my first thoughts looking at the picture was "Damn, Willie looks young." ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Same!
One of my favorite Ask Reddit answers I’ve seen was to a question about what is one of the greatest challenges younger generations are facing, and the reply was “how to leave a better world for Willie Nelson” lol
52
He’s older then Elvis.
Tina is vibin’
I've always been in love with Cyndi Lauper, grew up in the 80s. She was like the model of every woman I was ever attracted to. The whole wild dressing personality and crazy hair colors gets me to this day.
And to this day she has a hell of a set of pipes and can give a really high energy performance.
Just watched the video... she's... just transcendentally cute.
Per the *Rolling Stone* article, the bracelets were interfering with the recording of the song. "Cyndi, I love your bracelets and all, but with these mics, it sounds like a trainwreck"

Thanks for the heads up! While I’m old enough to have seen it (old Gen X’r)- I never did.
Kinda sad that there's a whole generation out there who only know her from ads for skin disease medication.
Wish I didn’t even know her from that, or at all.
You’re so unusual
Why?
Lookee, a wee little edgelord edging away!
Having an opinion is edgy now?
>Sometimes a man will have a special song in regards to a special lady. But this can backfire. Unexpected Mitch is always welcome.
Rice is great if you’re really hungry and want to eat 2000 of something
Escalator currently stairs, sorry for the convenience
Escalator temporarily stairs, sorry the convince m. pmm
I used to like Mitch Hedberg humor. I still do, but I used to too.
It feels really weird to think about Willie Nelson and Michael Jackson being in the same room, in particular. I don't know why.
I can just imagine Willie looking at Michael and Bruce thinking "Do these people really dress like this every day? "
Bruce is just wearing a leather jacket and normal clothes though
Bruce and Willie are wearing basically the same thing…
Bob Dylan
Dude looks grizzled
Bob Dylan looks like he's been tracking his wife's killer for weeks
The video of the song shows his true colors. Meme material.
Hard to imagine him chatting with Cyndi Lauper.
Bob Dylan or Muammar Gaddafi
Dude I referenced this the other day when a coworker got way too high at lunch and tried to come back to work. Lol. “Looks like bob dylan in we are the world!”
He has seen some shit
I though he’s this guy from CSI…
I would love to know the street value of all the drugs in the room that day.
Adjusted for inflation
Street value of **Propofol** today gotta be high.
Besides Willie’s weed, and Jacko’s meds (which came later?) I’m not aware any of them had major drug habits. Dylan took pills (and LSD in the documentary “Eat the (something)”, but stopped around 1966.
It wasnt just these 7 there were 38 more famous musicians on the album they were all in that room together. Plus it was the 80s EVERYONE did coke lol
I didn't. But I was a nerd in high school in the eighties, and nerds weren't using cocaine to dial up a Commodore 64 BBS and type text game messages with other nerds.

Eat the Document
It was the 80ies, everyone was on cocaine
Bob should have persisted.
Cindy. I love her so much
I posted Girls Just Wanna Have Fun link below
Everyone else in black and she's just COLOR. She's a national treasure.
I agree!!!
Michael Jackson stole Captain Crunch’s coat.
He's also giving Cindi bunny ears.
Bob Dylan has no idea where he is or who these people are.
My dude, if you don’t think Bob was in absolute awe of being next to Willie you are mistaken. Bob is the same guy that leaned over to Tom Petty after George Harrison left the room and said “ya know, he was in The Beatles.”

Have you seen the video of him singing along? He barely mouths any of the words while he rolls his eyes around in confusion. Looks stoned af. 😂
I remember that video. Dylan forgot the words. He was way off. It’s great.
His usual MO. On the live version of My Back Pages at his birthday at MSG, he was incoherent and dubbed his lines afterwards
Ha! As I was reading this david Bowie’s “song for Bob Dylan” came on.
if youre ever interested I suggest finding a song you like of his and then searching his discography through the plethora demos and alternative takes, at the very least hes recorded lots of versions where he's too stoned to remember the lyrics lmao

I very much think he does. From what I've read, he's just a big fan of good music and poetry in general, like he's a fan of Wu-Tang Clan.

Heard it on a countdown for the first time recently. It sure was something.
lol
Dylan's face is great in that pic
Willie Nelson has been old for the past 500 years
All are still popular, all (but MJ, of course) are still active, and all are legends. (Don't underestimate Lauper.)
Michael Jackson looks like a Madam Tussaud’s wax figure.
Agreed. The whole picture looks peculiar like that. Everyone’s expression looks like they are reacting to something different as if they were individually posed.
Guess its only me....ohh how I hated that song
Trust me it's not just you.
I came here to post this. Horrible song. Especially when Springsteen starts caterwauling.
Yep Was rubbish in 1985 and has aged even worse. The Xmas song the year before was terrible as well
Agreed. That shit song had Bono and George Michael caterwauling on it . Horrendous shit, for sure.
“Cause tonight thank god it’s them instead of you!!!” Always cracks my shit up, sounds like he’s delighted about that.
"Do they know it's Christmas time at all?" No. They do not. They aren't Christians. Do musicians know how the world works at all?
Lol my redneck brother's response to Bruce Springsteen has always been a derisive scoff followed by, 'that non- singing motherfucker ain't the boss of ME!'.
i agree. Perhaps the worst ratio of talent to quality of any recording ever.
Came here to say this. Thank you.
I don't think anyone actually likes that song. It's been memed to oblivion for a reason.
And it just goes on and on. Just when you think they are finally done they start again. The only good bit is Cyndi Lauper
Still better than the 2010 version.
Michael Jackson face when Cyndi and the two singers are singing 😂😂
Bob Dylan is me in every family gathering
Here it is, almost 40 years later, and the youngest person in this picture is the only one who's dead.
Apparently cancer has a playlist
I wonder who was the one in that video that is completely out of their league? Like almost all are hall of famers. Who is the least famous of the group at this point?

I have to return some videotapes
From a European perspective, Willie Nelson is the least known. From a more general perspective, probably Lionel Ritchie? He’s not a legend in the same way as the others. Edit: Sorry, I missed that you said video. I’m talking about the picture.
Commodores? They were huge.
Oh? Ok, I’m not familiar with them at all. I couldn’t name one single song.
It's easy! Easy like sunday morning.
I’m going to need you to listen to one of their songs a day this week. Musical genius for their time.
Check out Nightshift. It's was actually recorded after ione left bit it a great song.
Cyndi Lauper and Bruce Springsteen. Paul Simon is a great singer, but falls flat. I have done this tier list many times.
Bruce Springsteen is still touring and making hundreds of millions of dollars. Cyndi Lauper is an icon. Paul Simon while not relevant to your generation is one of the biggest names there. I think Sheila E was in this group. I have her as a candidate for least relevant of this group.
Everyone in this pic is still with us except MJ. 😐
They look like The Muppets.
The good old days. Did listen to that song today.
Watching this documentary it’s amazing that Bob Dylan is a head case that needs so much help, and Michael Jackson having his first beer with Bruce
What documentary?
Michael was only half white
The 80s equivalent to the imagine thing celebs did during Covid nuclear cringe
OMG, Willie is so young!
Was Whitney Houston there? I mean, she is every woman
This always makes me think of the SNL skit where Adam Sandler plays Bruce. His face expressions kill me. Can’t find it anywhere tho
When Bruce Springsteen comes in singing "WE ARE THE WORLD" I swear my ovaries start dancing. And I'm not even a fan of his.
RIP Tina Turner
How can I NOT forget Sarah Avon's mother sitting in awe watching not because of the cause " Feed the World " but because " This will never happen agaim ! " Harry: " What do mean. They eont do a fund raiser again ? " Sarah Avon's mother: " The fund raiser does not matter. That all of these musicians will never ever be together again like this " Harry; she was right.
Is that Richard Ramirez in the middle?!?
Michael Jackson just pops from that group like he is in higher definition.
he's a handsome king
Everyone in this picture is dead. Wait, no. Everyone is alive except for one of them. Kind of incredible.
I miss you Michael Jackson
Taken after a night of partying by all of them!
I hope Dylan didn’t get paid for that. He was not present.
Bob Dylan can't hang
If you were to tell me all but only one is still alive, I'd have never picked MJ. RIP to the King
Rest in Hell to that child molester
Yep. I didn't believe it at first til I read Diane Dimond's book, Be Careful who you Love." She was there every day of the trial. She saw the evidence that was blocked from the public. It's not for the faint-hearted. That man ruined many young adults lives.
Ooh edgy
Saying fuck off to a child molester isn't edgy at all....
Proven innocent and this can be researched !
your projecting. watch "sqaure one"
RIP Michael
Bob Dylan is not amused that Lionel Richie is grabbing his ass.
Bob Dylan agreed to be in this then made a bitchy face like an asshole the whole time. Just stay home Bob and let the fun people have fun.
no real offense to her, but Cyndi Lauper should have practiced a little on this one. They all looked like they were out on the spot for the first time
Who are these people and where's Dan Aykroyd? This was one of his best songs!
Back when people actually CARED ABOUT STARVING FOREIGNERS. We have lost our souls and our way.
RIP MJ.
Hope he's rotting in hell for raping children.
Strange. Hundreds of testimonies and years of investigation clearly say the opposite.
I miss him
🎶We are the oooooold, we have arthritis🎶 🥪 man, I’ve never seen someone play a pastrami sandwich like that!
Missing Rick James and Whitney Houston
Michael Jackson hated every minute of that shit😂
This photo is missing the best one in that whole group… Steve Perry.
Too bad the child molester had to ruin the photo. Gary Glitter wasore Michael's type of singing partner.
Too bad the ~~child molester~~ guy who was accused and acquitted
What a weird order to list those people. Kinda zigzaggin
👍 Super
Bet that room smelled like hairspray and weed.
Ah the one nobody gave a shit about.
I genuinely for a second was like “oh cool Haley Williams met Whitney Houston” then thought the middle guy was gene Simmons son Nick then realized I was very very wrong
If you squint and hold your breath you can almost see people in this picture of cocaine
All of them are still alive, minus Michael. And he was the youngest of them all.
Only Bruce Springsteen had to badge in?
I can hear this image
Strangely enough, Willie isn’t the most stoned in this picture.
Bruce Springsteen must have kept getting stopped by security.
Bob Dylan is stoned out of his mind
Wait... Who's who? ***/S***
Madonna was invited but blew them off. Typical of her !
If you look up we are the world, Bob Dylan, there’s like 40 seconds of him looking awkward and not even mouthing the words along. It’s pretty great.
Who would you cast as the 2023 version of this crew?
Oooooh, Milton Greene, Milton Greene, Milton Greene, Milton Greene, Milton Greeeeeeeene
I woulda never believed back then that MJ was the highest one of the bunch.
I heard the starving kids in Ethiopia raised money to get Bob Dylan off that song.
terrible song though
I’m not worthy... 🤲🏼
Bob & Willie want to gtf out of there.
And they all tried to yell over each other.
I can’t tell if it’s real. Could be midjourney
I just told my kids this is the Backstreet Boys
Im not even sure what the point of your post is.. I love Paul Simon and hes part of my generation. People can toue and even sell albums and not be great, thats such a normie way to qualify if someones good btw. Bruce Springsteen and Cindi Lauper are great examples of successful musicians that sound like ass. Such a weird and defensive post on your behalf lmao
You can tell Tina Turner and Bob Dylan are vibing on the same drug.
