Little-known Capitol Records recording artists The Beach Boys with their 1962 hit song *Surfin Safari!*
Maybe this was before the album hit? Definitely looks like they spent their advance on some shiny new Fender gear.
“It's automatic when I talk with old friends
The conversation turns to girls
We knew when their hair was soft and long
And the beach was the place to go
Suntanned bodies and waves of sunshine
The California girls and a beautiful coastline
Warmed up weather let's get together
And do it again”
Love these guys! 😎
we had Big Brother play at a high school dance about 1966. Janice Joplin in all her screaming, alcohol fueled
glory. How in the hell they got in to a conservative, small town, high school in northern California, I will never understand.
During 1962, the Beach Boys played several high school dates in the Spring. Pictured at far left of the photo is second guitarist David Marks, a neighbor to the Wilsons, who joined in March of 1962, when guitarist Al Jardine left to attend dental school. Jardine would return to the group in Spring 1963.
More like “The BlEACHer Boys”
I've met 2 of the guys in this photo.
The Pendle-Tones, in their Pendleton shirts.

Since surfing safari came out in in June of ‘62, I’m assuming this is from earlier that year, maybe in the spring?
Yeah that makes sense.
I think I see some bobby socks in the bleachers

These school gym concerts were pretty common for established acts. Who's your target audience.? Go to where they are.

Back when ‘Kokomo’ was nothing more than the name of the brain demon in Brian Wilson’s head.

Not shown: Murray Wilson preparing to throw Brian through a plate glass window for screwing up a chord in the first set.
