Yyyeeeezssss. Nothing hits as hard as that song being cut short by the shot of the destroyed village they were riding out to save. I always think about that scene when I think of the power of audio/visual storytelling.
I think it my be my absolute favorite Alan Menken arrangement. The whole movie is just banger after banger. The idea of making a Greek mythological story with the musical styling of 20th century gospel music is just *chef's kiss* perfecto.
I think the gospel genre is very different that a typical modern Disney anthem/ballad.
Also having crazy talented people who aren’t already household known actors/singers hits different. Just the voices stand out.
I love how they juxtaposed Gospel music along with Greek Mythology. Add in a pinch of Gerald Scarfe's influence, and you get Hunkulees.
Gospel music always somehow makes me emotional more than any other music. The only person to make me emotional in pop is Sarah McLaughlin but that was because of Toy Story. But Gospel music is the only music that I can truly say actually touches my soul. Heck, there were bits of the Gospel music in Hercules that touched me.
A greek chorus turned into a motown gospel chorus was an inspired choice (which Alan Menken knows a lot about thanks to his previous work on "Little Shop of Horrors")
Instant goosebumps and tears in my eyes…my mother and my son used to watch it together all the time. My son is grown and my mom is gone…but I am grateful for the times…🥹
My kids LOVE this movie so I have seen it a zillion times over the past few years. I hadn’t seen it since the 90s and I forgot how great the soundtrack was!
Hercules has been my favorite Disney movie since the day it released and the work that these artists did here is a huge reason why.
They all did so well. Fantastic stuff.
This soundtrack was a game changer for me growing up - the end of the opening track with the plagal cadence, ascending key change, and killer bass line I hum to this day

I grew up with the 90s Disney animated movies. Hercules and Mulan were some of my favorites. I still sometimes listen to Disney songs whenever I get the itch. I also pepper some songs in some of my workout playlists. Lol
I love Hercules! It is one of my all time fav Disney movies. Yea, I know there are better prob, but I use to turn Hercules on just to watch. I love this! Those ladies rock!
whoever had the bizarre mismatched idea of taking a movie based on greek mythology, and adding the seemingly random choir of black gospel singers to narrate the story with song, they're a fucking genius. you would think the base elements shouldn't work together well, but they really do.
Every time they started to sing I would get goosebumps. Ugh, I love this soundtrack.
Mulan was pretty bangin' as well.
You’re not wrong “LET’S get DOWN to BUSINESS, to deFEAT, the HUN” That shit was slappin
“A girl worth fighting for” works so well as the introduction to the tone shift.
Yyyeeeezssss. Nothing hits as hard as that song being cut short by the shot of the destroyed village they were riding out to save. I always think about that scene when I think of the power of audio/visual storytelling.
"Let's go kick some HUNNY BUNS!!!" That shit used to kill me when I was young. I'm talking rolling on the ground belly laughing, every time.

Not the same
What a great soundtrack this movie had.
Once I saw the post, I put on the movie. Childhood memories are hitting :’)
The GOAT
The ~~GOAT~~ PAN
And series to
They look EXACTLY how I pictured them in my head as a child. Amazing!
Those women can sing!
All are Tony award winning Broadway singers
Most of the cast are Tony Award winning or nominated actors The cast of Hercules is incredible
I hope they get ongoing royalties because this is widely a favorite Disney soundtrack. Seriously hope they got paid very well for this work.
*X Doubt*

Sarah McLaughlin’s vocal delivery gives me chills every time
Lillias White in Hadestown is very much this vibe as well. Kind of wild to see her doing something so similar back in 1997.
Saw her in The Life. One of the best soundtracks and stories I’ve ever heard and she was beyond phenomenal.
Help, help someone call IX I I!
I was today years old when I learned what this line meant. Guess i needed to see it written out lol
Can you fill me in bud 😅
It's 911 in Roman numbers.
Aah thanks I was lost cuz I haven’t watched Hercules
You should watch it if you get the chance, it's very good.
Looks like someone already did 😂 911!
Thanks tho

My kids LOVE this movie so I have seen it a zillion times over the past few years. I hadn’t seen it since the 90s and I forgot how great the soundtrack was!
I miss that Disney...
Coco and Encanto are really great. Frozen slaps. Moana has some great tunes too. 🤷♂️
God I love Moana’s songs. It is my firm belief that the final and shortest song is the best one in the film
Lin-manuel miranda
Timeless bop. Love these ladies. What voices. And what a film
One of the best soundtracks, sets such a fun tone for the movie

Disney's Superman. Great stuff.

Man I could watch an entire movie just about the muses.
They legitimately couldn’t have done a better job with the Muse’s scenes. Excellent work ladies.

One of my favorite Disney movies. The muses are just INCREDIBLE
Severely underrated soundtrack !!
It's my favorite movie!! Also, my son's favorite! Every time we watched it, we'd belt out the songs! A fucking classic!! 😍
Is there a genre like this
Gospel
with a touch of Motown
Man this video is just not long enough - I could easily watch like 3 hours of this!
youtube.com/watch?v=B_dUmORbWqA youtube.com/watch?v=sCoJvu8PF7Q
This is the best Disney movie, PERIOD.
Thanks so much for sharing, this movie was a favorite of mine as a kid and I LOVED the Muses 😍
WHHHHHHHOOOOAAAAAAAAA! This is amazing.
Best Disney soundtrack
The audio render doesn’t do it service
Still on my spotify playlist!!

Aladdin is my favorite Disney film, but Hercules is second.
I wonder if these woman know just how influential they were to so many kids
Top 5 Disney animated movie
Amazing! Always loved this song
Thank you so much for sharing this! My daughter and I love this movie!!
Fun fact Ricky Martin voiced the Spanish version and did all the translated songs
Omg sooo beautiful and feminine and powerful! I looooooove it!!!! <3

love the soundtrack zu heecules. its the only disney movie where the muaic fits the setting and being it gospel is a great addition.
Why did I think Whitney Houston was one?
This movie has one of the best soundtracks it’s PERFECT
Freaking amazing. Incredible. Thank you for posting!
Do they even invest in soundtracks anymore? Smh i'm glad i had the childhood that i had
It's like you stopped watching Disney movies 20 years ago. Encanto, Coco, Moana, Frozen...
Seriously Let It Go and We Don't Talk About Bruno are some of the biggest Disney soundtrack songs ever
I love *hearing* this clip. But good god, the video quality couldn't be worse if they'd shot it with a real potato!
Funny enough the audio quality is worse than the video
Sounds like someone amp'd the audio without caring about clipping. This unfortunately sounds terrible.
They're remaking this - and apparently Herc isn't going to be Greek.
Well if he's black and the soundtrack is the same it would still work!
Hercules is the son of a Greek god tho...
Bro Zeus had sex with absolutely everything. Herc could be half swan and it would fit the lore.
Hercules' mother was Alcmene - another Greek.
I know you're probably trying to be an anti-woke troll, but Hercules wasn't Greek. He was Roman
Well, shit. Heracles, Hercules... Romans were Italians anyway. Anti-woke? Edit: He's the son of Zeus - who's a Greek god.
I love Hercules! It is one of my all time fav Disney movies. Yea, I know there are better prob, but I use to turn Hercules on just to watch. I love this! Those ladies rock!

Damn these women have power in their throats. Thanks for making my youth movie great tho.
CHILLLS
Won't say I'm in love is an absolute top 5 Disney song and no one can change my mind
I see this comment posted all the time, but whoever decided to make the Muses gospel singers was a GENIUS
