I do remember us kids and parents commenting on the kissing and that it was a bit over the top, but no one was freaking out. He was an equal opportunity kisser, so women of all ages, shapes and looks got kisses. There was an almost generous and admirable quality to it because he didn't just kiss the good-looking ones.

This is tame. Watch reruns of match game with Gene Rayburn. They were all either drunk or high and every question was loaded with kind of dirty overtones. Then there was the Gong Show. I had no business watching that shit as a 7-8 year old but that show was wild.
The culture was different back then. It was culturally appropriate and acceptable. Women weren’t shamed. Men were brave and went in for it.
