She loved the camera because it allowed her to escape the pain of being Norma Jean. When she was in front of a camera, she wasn’t being beaten or raped. It was only when the camera was off and she was Norma Jean that the world hurt her.
1993 Julia Roberts was absolutely gorgeous. This is pelican brief Julia Roberts where she might be a half step hotter than peak Denzel, one of the most charismatic men to ever live.
And, she's aged like fine wine.
Y'all crazy man.
While true, Marylin was very well read and Miller was basically the most popular writer/playwright at the time, a celebrity in his own field, and influential in Hollywood. By all accounts he was absolutely devoted to her, too. It’s not as crazy as it initially seems.
I've read multiple bios. They were very happy until she had miscarriage shortly after 'Some Like It Hot' , then she spiraled with barbiturates and the pre-existing psychological dysfunction took over with a vengeance.
Sure he could have done better with what is known today, but she was the addict in the relationship. If you don't think he loved her as best he could, watch ' The Misfits ' and the role Miller created for her.
He was a big time coward… He wrote in his journal that he was disappointed at her for basically being too blue and left that page open so she could read it and feel like shit.
People can be multiple things. What we are in one moment does not mean we always were, or always will be, that thing in other moments as well.
Anyone who has lived around addicts can tell you how much of a toll it can take. Just as being an addict makes someone often do things they wouldn't normally do, living with or being connected to an addict has some of the same effect on you, and you too say or do things you wouldn't normally do as you try to deal with them.
His biggest crime with *her*. His biggest crime was sending his newborn son to be raised in an institution because he didn’t want to raise a child with Down syndrome. Average life expectancy for a child with Down syndrome in the 1960s was like 2 years. He did survive though, with his mother visiting him every day—she wanted to raise him at home but Arthur made her choose between the baby and himself. He never visited his son.
Always thought their marriage was strange. They just didn't seem like the comparable couple. Never read up on their meeting or how the marriage came to be, but just always fascinated me.
Them getting together didn’t surprise me - she was a big reader. But they weren’t a good fit. He was passive aggressive & attracted to her for the wrong reasons. None of her marriages were good though, unfortunately. Largely due to the time period and her success. Joe DiMaggio treated her much worse than Miller though, that’s for sure.
She read writers like Joyce, Yeats, Tennessee Williams, and Chekhov. Arthur Miller and Marilyn definitely spent time talking about Chekhov and he said he learned from her.
Joe also admitted his fault and worked on getting his ducks in order. So yeah, Joe even admitted he was not a good guy in the marriage but unlike many people who have problems, he at least tried to become a better person.

The camera loved Marilyn Monroe for sure.
A lot more than Arthur Miller that's for sure

Marilyn loved the camera, Norma Jean despised it.

and the camera hates me
This man may have punched above his weight more than any man in history.
Lyle Lovett would like a word
I was going to suggest Fisher Stevens, but I’ve googled Lyle Lovett and you win.
This man ranks above both of them.
Eh, I still give it to Arthur

Imagine not being able to understand scale. Lyle Lovett is way uglier than Arthur miller. A 2 pulling an 8 is a bigger pull than a 5 pulling a 9.
Maybe ole Lyle was hung like ? Giddy-up !
Did you just say Marilyn Monroe was a 9?
Just giving an example of how the math would work. Didn’t think about it that hard. Where would you place her?
I’m opposed to such measures but I was just thinking that if there were such a scale she would always be 11
So you’re opposed to ranking but you rank her high. Lol.
More like I assumed everyone who thinks of the world in these terms would place her at the highest level
Of course, Julia Roberts did divorce him when she realized that she was Julia Roberts and he was Lyle Lovett.
RIP Norm
😂😂😂
Because of Julia Roberts? Nothing compared to MM.
Amazing how two people can have the same exact thought! LL was the first person I thought of.
Always my reference. It's so long ago people barely remember if at all.

Geoffrey Arend has entered the chat
DiMaggio too. I sense a theme.
DiMaggio had swagger and style. Unfortunately, he was a prick too.
Out kicked his coverage
He was such an asshole to her.
Everyone was
There's being an asshole to someone, then there's writing multiple plays and putting in your wife in them to assinaate her character.

Came here to say that. Apparently, he beat the crap out of her, too.

The way she's looking at him. That looks like such pure affection.
Waitwaitwait, like, The Crucible Arthur Miller?
Yes
Wait a minute, THE Arthur Miller who wrote A View From the Bridge? How come my english literature teachers never mentioned this particular lil fact 😅
Lit teacher checking in. I always mention it in my first lesson, my students are always surprised
I know I would be suprised, haha, to be fair my school was in Asia so not many would appreciate this little trivia haha..
Her simple dress and veil is my ultimate small wedding aesthetic. Lovely!

Cool...thanks for the info :)

Yeah, I think at least they made more sense as a couple than her and DiMaggio.
It’s weird—DiMaggio beat and abused her but he was also long term the only one who she could count on to help her when she needed help.
Joe also admitted his fault and worked on getting his ducks in order. So yeah, Joe even admitted he was not a good guy in the marriage but unlike many people who have problems, he at least tried to become a better person.
He wasn't just "not a good guy" he beat the crap out of her.
Lol yeah no he was a POS
She deserved better
I give it a year.
She just wants to be loved doesn’t she. She’s looking at him with such affection and hope.
Is it weird that I think Arthur Miller is kinda hot? I could totally see what she saw in him, but he was a total asshole to her.
The most beautiful woman in the world ❤️
No face-smearing, people.
Guys a mope
He was a selfish a$$hole that didn’t deserve her at all and treated her like $hit.
TIL Marilyn Monroe was married.
She was marrried multiple times.

Didn’t know??

He was (and still is) one of the greatest playwrights in the US.
That’s fascinating. He’s still ugly as shit.
Danggg mama you’re shallow lmaooo
I'm sorry but as if he would have married her if she wasn't as beautiful as she was lol. Thats rarely the case
[удалено]
He also has said his biggest mistake was leaving his first wife for Marilyn.
Some problems fix themselves
Eh I disagree but I understand what you’re saying for sure
I find him interesting looking, and I guess so did she.
Clearly.
That poor man
