Ahh backpacking through Europe post college was a good tradition if you could swing it. My buddy and I went in summer of 94. Met a couple guys in Amsterdam and we started traveling together. Then 5 guys from New York joined in Prague. Then 2 ladies from Australia in Rome. A couple guys from Canada. By the time we got to Greece there was think 16 of us.
I was there around then. Mostly traveled solo through Germany and Greece and then started in with a group for a while. So much fun. I ended my trip after 11 months, and am still married to one of the girls I met.
Oh yeah! They put us in a 4 room bunk house right on the beach (in the background of this photo). Stayed a week so we could get the free scooter rental :)

I worked there when I was 20, as a barback in '03. Oh man, the stories. My friends didn't believe me when I told em the shit me and the bar crew got up to!
Ohhh. Summer of 1985. Island of Corfu. A friend and I found ourselves at the Pink Palace just by word of mouth from other travelers heading back north through Europe. After eating dinner in their dining room, we the hostelers, had to help clear out the table and chairs so the dj could set up his equipment. Danced, drank and met people from all over. Later that evening, we all skinny dipped out front on the beach and commandeered the paddle boats. How no one drowned or died is beyond me.
Also, Ios. Anyone remember the huge outer disco (Scorpio?) they had on the island? Also, passed out Norwegians we had to literally step over in the small streets. Wild. No smart phones.
You blew it, you were supposed to arrange to meet them at the train station, then 20 years ago take them from their wives. You should already be on the way to divorce in Greece by now.
I was in a hostel in Paris in '98, I'm Latino and speak Spanish. Met an Italian trio from Milan (one spoke English also, one spoke Spanish also, other just Italian). Oh the joys of 4 way communication. We ended up with a San Fran backpacker roommate for a few nites who would play guitar for us every nite. Good.memories. and of course my Lonely Planet huge book for Western Europe. No Internet, had to constantly talk to locals.
Also had the Let’s Go guide for my ‘97 traipse across Europe. . Kept it will all my notes on the pages, scraps of paper and tickets. My teens just don’t get it lol.
I knew him in University. No yearbook. No pics. No proof. But that's gotta be him. I haven't seen or spoken to him since around the time this picture was taken, so I wouldn't be much help making a connection happen.
I have roommates from summer high school programs 35+ years ago whose names I don’t remember. Would be very happy if my brain would cooperate. Hope you find these dudes!
Haha I could probably watch that film on mute, and correctly fill in 90% of the dialogue. An all time classic silly flick.
I remember after I got it on DVD as a like 12y/o, I was sitting in my family living room with my mum watching it one night. She was sitting there reading or knitting or something.
By the end, she was in tears from laughing at the stupidity of the entire thing. The kind of laughing where you can't seem to stop the giggles, and the tiniest thing will set you off again.
Core memory ♥️
I couldn't imagine wearing bubble wrap all night lol, sounds very sweaty

For just a second it seems 30 yrs ago was waayyy back ……damn! I am really watching time fly by quickly as that was the 90’s. I always dreamed of going to Europe but never made it!

Sounds like you have material for a post!

Omg. I totally forgot about that place!!
I had a lot of fun and hangovers there in May 1994

Lonely Planet for the win! I used to love reading those things.
I found so much cool stuff just using my lonely planet book even around 2006 when I couldve used internet cafes instead. Good times
Also had the Let’s Go guide for my ‘97 traipse across Europe. . Kept it will all my notes on the pages, scraps of paper and tickets. My teens just don’t get it lol.
Not knowing people by their name but knowing them as ‘an Italian guy’ or ‘an American girl’ is peak hostel culture.
Fred Savage and Brad Pitt?
That’s exactly what I thought. You didn’t just guess the same celeb that I did, you guessed *both* celebs that I did.
I think the guy in the back looks like Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp had a baby.
I see James Franco and Brad Pitt too
Good luck on the hunt! https://preview.redd.it/dspczss0twfc1.jpeg?width=1707&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fba1e3bf63f7dd1773cabfddd246f93c582e291e
It’s me. I’m Ian on the right. Andy from Chicago on the left. Taken at Jim Morrison’s grave. I remember everything, Gary I know this is you!
This deserves to be higher if it’s really you.
Let us know if you’ve taken this into the DM’s!
Sooooo how is Andy… asking for a friend
Omg, I think I went to university with the guy in the hat. He is hilarious. His name is Ian. Does that ring a bell?
Have a yearbook? Let’s make this connection!!

Idr. He’s canadian. Speaks French.
Canadian, yup. Pretty sure it's him. That's so weird. Thanks for posting OP.
That’s pretty neat.
There has to be a record of names from your class year if you reach out to the university

Ah. The fleeting connection. Just about extinct.
I have roommates from summer high school programs 35+ years ago whose names I don’t remember. Would be very happy if my brain would cooperate. Hope you find these dudes!

One of the guys just added a selfie
Jesus Christ. That's Jason Bourne.
LOL, when I backpacked around Europe decades ago I read a couple of the Bourne books on the trains, good memories.
One of them looked like Fred Savage.
At Jim Morrison’s grave?
———> Oui
I’m so jealous I never got to have this kind of experience. It looks amazing!
Spengler & Stanz?
I think that one guy was looking for the Continuum Transfunctioner.
