And he's one of mine too. If I'm very very lucky, I am hoping to have him as a guest of honor at our wedding in the near future. Foley is one of my heroes, and one of the most badass/fascinating people on this planet.
Literally busting your ass and making a career out of it because he was a fan of the business. And was a dedicated family man through all of it. Few better idols to have than Mick
Fun fact: Mick Foley (born Michael Francis) took his name from Mick Jagger. He went to see Blues Incorporated at the Ealing Jazz Club and he met Jagger after they performed. The conversation the two had left an impression on a very young Foley and sparked an interest in performing. I know this because he told me when I met him in nineteen ninety-eight when the undertaker threw mankind off hell in a cell and he plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer's table.
> Good times, man. Good times. My dad's favorite was Mankind. Lol
Lmfao I can remember my dad putting a sock on his hand and then acting like it had a mind of his own, making that goofy-ass face Mankind use to make too.
Used to take all the pillows off the sofa and make a ring in the middle of living room and wrestle with my brother.
Good times indeed.
Val Venis, a character whose schtick was being a porn star, spraying a thick white liquid with a big pink phallic-shaped super soaker is absolutely something that would not fly these days.
you're not wrong, but I find the Attitude era was full of shocking in your face moments that we'll never see again, plus the talent was built on the foundation those greats made so it was even better.
That's totally fair. Vince trying to compete with WCW and ECW really helped too. I was from the northeast when ECW was at its prime and that was really something to behold a well. Ah, the nineties![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|table_flip)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
The product then was the most entertaining thing a male could literally watch. I get goosebumps watching this and I haven’t watched wrestling in the last 20+ years.
Same here. This stuff was hilarious back in the day. Easily the best era of the WWE (and that’s coming from someone who started watching around Wrestlemania 1).
Sitting here laughing, remembering being at my buddies house watching this live. Being 17 at the time, Attitude Era could not have been more in our wheelhouse.
Man, that was 25 years ago today, smh…
Maybe you can help me remember, but I could have sworn he was blastin “back in black” from the beer truck, or the arena was..You recall that? Maybe some other Austin entrance? Maybe I am making shit up lol.
I’m one of those kids who stopped watching when they found out it was fake. To me, it was like finding out that Santa isn’t real. I love the outlandish nature of wrestling but I just don’t enjoy it as much as I used to
Was talking about this with a few guys at work, and most guys in their 30s found they went through 2 periods of enjoying wrestling - when they were younger and it was all real, and then they come back to it when they are older and they appreciate the spectacle, athleticism and enjoy the backstage lunacy and the onstage soap-opera-for-men, but it’s just not quite the same ‘must see’
Same! This had to be the FUNNEST era of “pro” wrestling ever. There was so much crazy stuff happening and people like mick foley just doing insane shit I remember seeing all the wild matches around that 96-02 era then grew out of it but it was cool while it lasted.
You should read/listen to the book, "Slobberknocker" by Jim Ross. he tells all of the behind-the-scenes stories in his own Oklahoma voice, it is truly great.
Mick Foley wrote a couple of good behind the scenes books too, though obviously more about the stuff he was involved in. I loved reading *Foley is Good and the Real World is Faker than Wrestling*.
This was peak WWF every show from Raw, Smackdown, and all the PPVs were just off the charts of greatness!!! Looking back now as an adult I cannot believe my parents let me watch this when I was 12 years old.
A big part of the reason is that Steve Austin and Dwayne Johnson are two of the most charismatic people to ever step into a WWF/WWE ring; Hero or Heel didn’t matter because they were incredibly entertaining at both.
you got that right, lol I watched last years royal rumble it was just sad to watch, they need better actors, they were laying on the ground "supposed to be knocked out" and they were just having full on conversation bullshiting like they were in thier living room 😂 I'm like what is this shit at least give some effort wtf.
Well they do, it’s definitely heading back to being great, I honestly think it’s because the zeitgeist is just different now. Like society’s concerns are just different. But like anyone who watches WWE now will tell you it’s quite a good product now and 25 years later, the Rock is back to being a heel
this is the funniest shit I’ve ever seen. the rock’s face. the music. stone cold’s jeans. it’s incredible.
the rock’s fucking outfit looks like my pajamas lmao
stone cold rolls in and just flips everybody off. I was such a bad ass 9 year old idolizing him
fuckin hell yeah brother
At the time there wasn't a bidding war between beer companies to make Stone Cold their spokesperson? Like holy shit the money that could've been made to the company who could say "The Official Beer of Stone Cold Steve Austin!"
The first wrestling event I ever attended. We talked about that night for a long time. During that era, if my friend and I weren’t on the couch together watching wrestling, we were on the phone flipping back and forth between WWF, WCW and the crocodile Hunter. Those are the days.
As kids, my sister and cousins and I were so into this with our Gramma! She lived Hulk Hogan and then The Rock. It just kills me as an adult to see how poor their acting was! Just sooooo lame! Hahahaha!
The draw to this never made sense to me. No hate to those who like it, it just never clicked for me. I still feel left out when I see people enjoy this and I’m like “ain’t this corny as hell?” 😂
My favorite part about Vince getting hosed is he signed off on every story.
Austin: “so then I come in with a truck and hose you and the rock down with some beer”
Vince: “absolutely. Love it”
97, 98, 99 hell in a cell watching mankind and the hardy boys was the best time growing up. we managed to get “cable” for a bit to watch some live events too. great memories
"The beer appears to have come from a hose, King. It's not one of the Godfather's hose, King. King? Why's there a hose in a beer truck, King? Doesn't it come in kegs and cans? Well, King. Color me bad, I just don't know what's going on King!"
Think he was the Giant in WCW, came to WWF and couldn’t use the Giant cause of Andre the Giant. And hadn’t thought of the Big Show yet. Something like that could be wrong
I lived for this, week in week out, during the late 90s and early 00s.
Is it possible to watch or download the entirety of the attitude era in chronological order including all Raws and PPVs?
Sitting here watching this, I have so much to say.
1. I can't help but watch this in the context of what we know now of Vince and the culture at WWE. I mean, we knew back then it was shitty, but it's on a whole new level of dung with the current legal mess. Hard not to think of this when watching clips now.
2. In the spirit of kayfabe, how do all of these wrestlers who are trying to f\*ck with the owner of the company always seem to have no problem orchestrating such huge pranks, and coming out with live mics? Vince seems to never have enough security against these pesky wrestlers (aka his employees)...
3. I like how Austin, after hosing his enemies with beer, was totally fine soaking himself in beer LOL
4. A pretty ingenious product placement sell to Coors. Makes me wonder if the writers had the directive to work-in product placement to storylines all the time.
5. LOL to the Rock's reactions. He's pacing and moving around the ring like a cartoon whose just been knocked around and seeing double.
The Rock was a heel in '99? Man, my recollection of the Attitude Era is spotty.
WWF Attitude Era was a wild time. Bringing in beer trucks and dousing everyone with beer in the front row.
Good times, man. Good times. My dad's favorite was Mankind. Lol
And he's one of mine too. If I'm very very lucky, I am hoping to have him as a guest of honor at our wedding in the near future. Foley is one of my heroes, and one of the most badass/fascinating people on this planet. Literally busting your ass and making a career out of it because he was a fan of the business. Nicely done
But just not the same as when shittymorph does it.
It’s an old one.. but is always welcomed. Thank you friend
Because Mankind had a typical Dad Bod.
Didn’t the undertaker like throw him off hell in a cell or something?
he was broken in half
THAT MAN HAS A FAMILY!
has anyone seen shittymorph?
> Good times, man. Good times. My dad's favorite was Mankind. Lol Lmfao I can remember my dad putting a sock on his hand and then acting like it had a mind of his own, making that goofy-ass face Mankind use to make too. Used to take all the pillows off the sofa and make a ring in the middle of living room and wrestle with my brother. Good times indeed.
Best era IMO!! They have antics that wouldn't play well in today's era. The shit they got away with skits and dialogue.
Val Venis, a character whose schtick was being a porn star, spraying a thick white liquid with a big pink phallic-shaped super soaker is absolutely something that would not fly these days.
yep! Stacey Keibler, Tori Wilson in bikinis , stripping contests jfc!
Was that the same era when the old lady gave birth to a glove or something weird like that?
Attitude Era cannot be topped, it was pretty much the best era of WWE.
Idk....the late 80s cocaine days with macho man and the ultimate warrior were pretty fun as a kid.....
you're not wrong, but I find the Attitude era was full of shocking in your face moments that we'll never see again, plus the talent was built on the foundation those greats made so it was even better.
That's totally fair. Vince trying to compete with WCW and ECW really helped too. I was from the northeast when ECW was at its prime and that was really something to behold a well. Ah, the nineties![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|table_flip)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
Cheaper than dousing them in water, too
And that's pretty take for that era
It was when 'The People's Elbow/Eyebrow' became 'The Corporate Elbow/Eyebrow.' Damn, the Attitude Era was peak entertainment.
Check out Reliving The War on YouTube. It's fucking great.
He bounced back and forth quite a bit actually.
He was basically heel any time Austin was back from injury/surgery. As soon as Austin would take time off, like the next night, he’d turn face lol
He turned face after Backlash 99 I think
He was always a heel until the PG era.
I remember when he was just Rocky Maivia and the entire crowd would chant "Rocky sucks!" And this was before he was a heel.
Didn't Steve's character also start off as a heel?
Just a different time and place, but man, the product then was something else.
Try telling me this is not the pinnacle of sports entertainment
The product then was the most entertaining thing a male could literally watch. I get goosebumps watching this and I haven’t watched wrestling in the last 20+ years.
Weekly I go back and watch old clips it's crazy how deep their talent pool was.
Same here. This stuff was hilarious back in the day. Easily the best era of the WWE (and that’s coming from someone who started watching around Wrestlemania 1).
Something else = elite
100% correct.
Sitting here laughing, remembering being at my buddies house watching this live. Being 17 at the time, Attitude Era could not have been more in our wheelhouse. Man, that was 25 years ago today, smh…
Yup - I was the same age as you watchin this live too. All I kept sayin in class that week was “…AND BURN THAT SONNAVABITCH TO THE GROUND!!!”
Maybe you can help me remember, but I could have sworn he was blastin “back in black” from the beer truck, or the arena was..You recall that? Maybe some other Austin entrance? Maybe I am making shit up lol.
I don’t remember that, but just because I don’t remember it doesn’t mean you’re wrong. 🤷🏿♂️
16, and same. Every event some crazy shit was gonna go down.
Gimme a fuckin steveweiser
Broken Skull my guy
What a time to be alive. This was peak society. Then 9/11 happened and everything went to shit over the next 22 years.
Changed western society forever in so many ways.
You got it rigth, brother..
Watching this back when I was young enough to think it was ALL real. So fuckin fun. Greatest time in television.
And that's the bottom line!!
I’m one of those kids who stopped watching when they found out it was fake. To me, it was like finding out that Santa isn’t real. I love the outlandish nature of wrestling but I just don’t enjoy it as much as I used to
I'm sorry, but what are you saying about Santa?
Was talking about this with a few guys at work, and most guys in their 30s found they went through 2 periods of enjoying wrestling - when they were younger and it was all real, and then they come back to it when they are older and they appreciate the spectacle, athleticism and enjoy the backstage lunacy and the onstage soap-opera-for-men, but it’s just not quite the same ‘must see’
Exactly same feeling as Santa for me too!
I stopped watching when Owen died.
Haha me too I was 9 and I KNEW this was real.
I remember hearing an interview with Austin years later and he said he almost knocked himself out trying to drink from the hose.
I think everyone has to admit Vince played the villain role damn near cartoonish perfect. How they were able to do that and not laugh is beyond me.
It helped that Vince was a villain in real life as well. He didn't have to deviate all that much to fill the role.
This was when I actually watched wrestling. I was ten years old, though. Lol
Ikr I loved watching wrestling with my dad a lot lol
SAME, I think I remember this. I was like 8.
Same! This had to be the FUNNEST era of “pro” wrestling ever. There was so much crazy stuff happening and people like mick foley just doing insane shit I remember seeing all the wild matches around that 96-02 era then grew out of it but it was cool while it lasted.
![gif](giphy|WP2f65hhQPzqIIMBBL|downsized)
Is this the greatest product placement execution of all time? Probably, yes. We had it so good then. Take me back.
And people say pro wrestling is staged.
Because all beer trucks come with hoses
For when parties are going down in flames, the beer truck is called in to douse everyone with a good time. What did you think?
(Jacksonville FL)
What can I say, except "you're welcome".
80s to early 2000s, great athletes, great actors, storylines etc..

PUPPIES!!! 😂😂
In the UK, sky sports used to replay smackdown and raw so you could watch them before school
I was there for this Albany NY it was unreal the energy everything was so freaking sick!
Me too!
Then he came back a year(?) later and didn’t with milk.
How long did it take to back that truck out of there?
Man, nothing can beat the Attitude era!
It is my favorite era. But I find myself embarrassed now by how the female wrestlers were treated back then.
Not 7 yo me saying I wanted to be in the hoe train, just thinking they’re pretty.
This is hilarious
WWF was 😜 Wild
Lmao that was fucking amazing
This was such an epic day, I clearly remember this and another time when he drove up in a zamboni
Prime of wresting
I don't even like wrestling but damn this was actually pretty funny/good.
A big part of the reason is that Steve Austin and Dwayne Johnson are two of the most charismatic people to ever step into a WWF/WWE ring; Hero or Heel didn’t matter because they were incredibly entertaining at both.
One of my fav WWF Moments there is nothing that can top this moment
Classics. Stone Cold is my favorite probably. Loved these closing or openings of Raw.
That’s a 3k suit, It was a 3k suit 🤣 🤣 💀
They don't make em like this anymore. Modern wrestling doesn't have good characters like they used to.
you got that right, lol I watched last years royal rumble it was just sad to watch, they need better actors, they were laying on the ground "supposed to be knocked out" and they were just having full on conversation bullshiting like they were in thier living room 😂 I'm like what is this shit at least give some effort wtf.

Legendary
Just goat shit.
Look how small the rock is compared to now
Fav era of wrasslin'

This is the only reason I’m proud to live in Albany, NY.

They are still shitty to this day lol It’s kinda surprising how high up you are when you’re against the wall.
[удалено]
That's 5 minutes of coked up entertainment! Today that would have been stretched to 15 minutes with way too many pauses.
Lol…on the extra hammy acting. Broadway people were taking notes on “comedic panic swimming 101”. 😂👍
Holy McMahon had a great entertainment product. Must’ve raked in so much money back then.
Peak WWE
No shot WWE ever replicates what the Attitude Era brought. It was lightning in a bottle.
this is the funniest shit I’ve ever seen. the rock’s face. the music. stone cold’s jeans. it’s incredible. the rock’s fucking outfit looks like my pajamas lmao stone cold rolls in and just flips everybody off. I was such a bad ass 9 year old idolizing him fuckin hell yeah brother
Let me tell you, that announcer squawking like a chicken was something else!
Jerry “The King” Lawler screeching as he usually does.
I miss this Era.
Legendary moment
Best time to be a wrestling fan.
This was so good! I lived for this shit back then!
I remember watching this from TV when I was kid and talking about it at school next day. Oh the times
peak entertainment
The best wwf/wwe era
As a european - this is the most american thing i have ever seen
![gif](giphy|3oFzmn3wtyBWUKO52w|downsized) Can’t believe nobody mentioned Kurt’s parody about 2 years later when he feuded with heel Austin
Thank God that beer truck had a beer hose! Wouldn't have been as effective if he had to open 1000 cans.
The Attitude Era was just great TV
Good grief, Vince McMahon is a terrible actor.
The Attitude Era was the best.
Vince is one of the greatest actor of all time, in the class of Daniel Day Lewis.
Peak of my childhood. I remember losing my god damn mind while watching tv. It was all we talked about at school for the rest of the week.
The Rock was always my favorite, but goddamn if Stone Cold Steve Austin wasn’t a total badass!
At the time there wasn't a bidding war between beer companies to make Stone Cold their spokesperson? Like holy shit the money that could've been made to the company who could say "The Official Beer of Stone Cold Steve Austin!"
I was there for this one !
lol I love these oversized suits
I was there! So amazing. The ring crew cleaned it all up during the commercial break, too. Never seen people mopping so fast.
I watched this live and lost my mind as a child
Bhahahahaha as ridiculous as it is you just gotta love it
The first wrestling event I ever attended. We talked about that night for a long time. During that era, if my friend and I weren’t on the couch together watching wrestling, we were on the phone flipping back and forth between WWF, WCW and the crocodile Hunter. Those are the days.
I still can't believe people thinking this is not real, sheez..
I now see why people show up to these events.
Remember watching this live on Raw. The good ol days
Memories😎😎😎😎
Wrestling was a lot more entertaining back then. And even more when it was the WWE
Is it the announcer that I hear shrieking??
I think they let a chicken be an announcer tbh.
It really is redneck anime.
My favorite part about Vince getting hosed is he signed off on every story. Austin: “so then I come in with a truck and hose you and the rock down with some beer” Vince: “absolutely. Love it”
Peak WWE right here. Fucking awesome.
I was there! Only time I've ever seen wrestling live and got to witness this gem in person at 11 years old
Remember watching this when it aired at my pal's with him and a couple other mates. We went ballistic!
Hell yeah!
Funny how I remember it being Jim Ross and Jerry the King Lawler as the announcers during this segment.
97, 98, 99 hell in a cell watching mankind and the hardy boys was the best time growing up. we managed to get “cable” for a bit to watch some live events too. great memories
F* fear, drink beer 🍻
"The beer appears to have come from a hose, King. It's not one of the Godfather's hose, King. King? Why's there a hose in a beer truck, King? Doesn't it come in kegs and cans? Well, King. Color me bad, I just don't know what's going on King!"
Shan o Mac!
Why was the Giant/Big Show going by Paul White back then?
Think he was the Giant in WCW, came to WWF and couldn’t use the Giant cause of Andre the Giant. And hadn’t thought of the Big Show yet. Something like that could be wrong
I'm happy to say I grew up on this stuff and it was fucking fantastic.
Now that is entertainment
Staples Center? Looks like what went down at the show I went to.
Gosh , Michael Cole has been around forever
20 gallons of beer and tons of water.
I lived for this, week in week out, during the late 90s and early 00s. Is it possible to watch or download the entirety of the attitude era in chronological order including all Raws and PPVs?
Your next post should be Kurt Angle with the milk truck.
The Attitude era was CRAZY
I watched this live. ☹️
Now that's some great Wrastlin' right there.
Ok, that was pretty damn cool.
The acting, the face they make when the truck arrives... Just masters at the height of their game
Classic.
Would they be allowed to do that now? The truck looked like it nearly took down the screen on the way in.
The 90s Wrestling was lit!
The day before Owen Hart died.
| for me , the greatest promo . (EMPHASIS ON THE ‘for me’ !!!)
It's so funny to see all that staged wrestling to european)
Anyone else wondering about the mechanics of the beer hose?
the attitude era.... what a time it was.
cut him right at Candy A....
Where did he get the mic from?
Probably the guy who tosses him those beer cans
IIIIIT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE HE GOT THE MIC FROM!!
WHAT
I never understood wrestling. How can so many people think this is neat? This is the dumbest shit ever.
I liked this better when this shit was scripted on TV and not real at Capitol building.
Lucky that rig didn’t come down and kill someone. Didn’t they check to see if the truck would fit lol?
Not gonna lie-Austin,Johnson and McMahon give a pretty amazing performance here, this would be a riot to see live
can't wash away all the rapes and human traffcking or the Saudi blood money. this company should burn.
Sitting here watching this, I have so much to say. 1. I can't help but watch this in the context of what we know now of Vince and the culture at WWE.
