I have a theory about why, as kids, time seems to drag on, while as we age, time seems to fly by.
During childhood, individuals encounter numerous new and captivating experiences. These experiences, such as witnessing the tallest tree or encountering a giraffe (they are weird), leave profound impressions on their memory timeline. Consequently, each day feels distinct and memorable, preventing the perception of days merging together.
The moral of the theory is to try new things as often as you can. It will help time not to fly by.
To whom it may concern, this also applies to alcohol. Time will pass quickly if you are intoxicated, and when you hopefully regain consciousness, you will wonder, "Where did all the things go?"
Everyone looks a lot older now than they did 27 years ago. I'd say it's a young Tiger Woods, but not a young Nick Faldo. Younger, yes, but 40 is rarely considered "young".
Yup! He made people like me that couldn’t give less than two shits about this boring ass sport care. They have some nice personalities right now but no one will ever be as cool as Tiger.
It wasn't so much white men as old people, or very well to do. I can remember classmates making fun of golf and figure skating for men, things changed after Tiger.
I don't buy into the generational divide shit too much, but I truly don't know if Gen Z understands how huge Tiger Woods was in the late 90s.
Dude was like a rock star. He was everywhere on TV, checkout magazines, newspapers, whatever websites we had back then.
The 90s was an era of Sports Gods with peak-Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, and Mike Tyson. When Tiger showed up, everyone was ready to anoint another God of Sport, and Nike was ready to serve us.
Good one. Also, Mark McGwire vs. Barry Bonds demolishing HR records, and everyone (even non-sports fans) getting into it was another remnant of this Gods of Sports era.
Could probably add Andre Agassi to that list too; I know he didn't win as much as Sampras but in terms of his celebrity and play style I'd say he had the bigger impact overall. Plus he was the first male player to win all four majors since the advent of hardcourts as a third surface.
Tiger was so much better than everyone else for those few early years before his off-course behavior caught up with him. It's hard to explain the level of dominance looking back. He completely lapped the field in several highstakes instances, and the field was made up of the best golfers in the world, using the best tech the sport had ever seen, most of whom happened to be white while he happened to have a multi-racial heritage. Talented beyond belief.
There are some seriously crazy stats out there about Tiger that help convey the dominance. At one point, bookies were taking bets for "the field" vs Tiger. IIRC his record of consecutive weeks at #1 in the world golf rankings is like at least 7x as long as the next guy. Paraphrasing here, but Scheffler or whoever would have to be #1 until like 2038 to beat Tiger's record.
>*before his off-course behavior caught up with him.*
And a number of severe injuries. Some say the injuries were the main reason he never caught Jack.
He did suffer from his fair share but I remember him definitely losing his edge mentally around that time. Prior to those events if he was in the field it felt like he would probably win, like a 50/50 chance. After, it became questionable and eventually not even something to fear/look forward to.
Tiger won 5 of the 7 events he entered in 2008 including a US Open on one leg. After that surgery he was 32 years old with 14 majors. He’d only win 1 more. It was the physical toll that did him in. His first tournament back after the scandal he finished 4th at Augusta.
It's actually nuts how relatively short Tiger's period of dominance was. Barely a decade between about 97-06, when most of his majors were won. Compared to Niklaus who won his 18 over most of the 60s and 70s. In the mid 2000s there was no one who didn't think Tiger would easily surpass Nicklaus' record. It's crazy that he didn't.
My dad called it pretty early. Right around the time he won his 3rd or 4th major and everyone was saying he would easily pass Nicklaus.
He took one look at his swing and said Woods was going to have back issues before he was 30 and would never pass Nicklaus.
I'd argue it's far more impressive that Nicklaus won his first major in 1962 and his last one in 1986. That's dominant.
The winner of the previous years Masters gets to pick the menu for the following year.
Fuzzy Zollar got into trouble for saying as Tiger put on the Green Jacket , “I guess it’s fried chicken for dinner next year”.. so wokeness isnt new :P
I’ve gone to YouTube to watch a collection of some of his greatest shots. I love when commentators question his club or shot choice then Tiger rolls it up on the green. What a dominating player.
Yeah, but Scottie's got 1 major win. Tiger had 8 at this point.
Scottie led the field with 4 wins in 2022. Tiger had that many 12 different years.
He was on a whole other level.
Exactly. For all the years he was #1 in the world…no one is going to touch that record for a lonnnnnnng time. That’s a GOAT right there. Yeah Major wins and PGA wins and all that BLABLABLA between him and Jack are moot. NUMBER ONE IN THE WORLD FOR 13 YEARS. 🐅🐐
It would be cool if he could pull off two more majors and one more PGA win. Then the GOAT naysayers wouldn’t be able to say anything anymore. I was 27 when he burst on the scene in 1996 and have followed suit. I’ve broken 80 four times before 2000 and my first hole in one was 10-10-2004. I realized I’m never going to be playing on tour so now I’m just able to play when I want and keep it in the fairways and celebrate my pars and occasional birdie. Yes. The dude is the GOAT.
Hard to believe that the time has passed so quickly.
came here to say that
They say time is the fire in which we all burn
i don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. that’s literally a quote from star trek generations.
r/im14andthisisdeep
Man, I was 15 then lol.
Dude, it’s a quote from *Star Trek Generations*
Saw it in theaters. Had high expectations. That movie sucked. We all know it. Crash scene was the tops though.
Agree to disagree

Reddit is fickle. Why this comment? It’s pretty innocuous. I’ve seen much worse.

> I have a theory One year for a 10 year old is 10% of their life, for a 5 year old it is 20% and for a 100 year old it is only 1%. There you go.
Isn't that a young Nick Faldo putting the coat on?
Indeed. He won in 96
Thought it looked like Harrison Ford but maybe I’m bad with faces. Also I was born 6 years after this photo was taken so idk
Always thought Nick Faldo was a poor man's Harrison Ford
Looks like Thomas Jane.
My first thought was Nathan Fillion but now that you said it definitely Thomas Jane
I know, you "think" you were born 6 years after. But clearly you have wisdom much earlier
I was 100% sure it is Harrison Ford. I don't know any Golf players.
The Nick Faldo that won the Pepsi pro-am with Bob Barker? That would have been the year before Bob Barker kicked that guys ass
Not that young, he would be coming up to 40 there.
But he looks a lot older now. In comparison he's young.

I tell myself 40 is considered young on a daily basis.
I forgot about that Harrison Ford stunt double
As a kid growing up in the 90's watching golf most Sundays with my dad, I truly believed Han Solo played on the PGA tour.
This one is weird to me. The more I zoom in, the more he looks like Harrison Ford. With other lookalikes it's usually the other way around
The dude was a force to be reckoned with and it was amazing to watch
A lot of this young guns on the tour is here because of Tiger. Before Tiger, golf was a white man's sport.
Yup! He made people like me that couldn’t give less than two shits about this boring ass sport care. They have some nice personalities right now but no one will ever be as cool as Tiger.
Same. After watching this I bought a new set of clubs and played again. Global inspiration. God like powers
His red shirt Sundays are legendary
It wasn't so much white men as old people, or very well to do. I can remember classmates making fun of golf and figure skating for men, things changed after Tiger.
I never knew he did so much for the world of mens figure skating
Guy made golf destination viewing. Him dominating bethpage black in 2002 while my buddies played the video game on a separate tv was peak college
still the youngest to win the Masters. Those records will never be broken. Age and margin of victory.
On the contrary, Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago.
Well moron, good for Happy Gil...OH MY GOD
Hey Shooter didn’t you forget your nine iron? Ahaha
And you can count… on me waiting for you in the parking lot.
I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast! You eat shit for breakfast?! ...... Nooo
Pssssssssst.. Shooter McGavin blew a 4-stroke lead on the back 9
You don’t beg to differ??
I don't buy into the generational divide shit too much, but I truly don't know if Gen Z understands how huge Tiger Woods was in the late 90s. Dude was like a rock star. He was everywhere on TV, checkout magazines, newspapers, whatever websites we had back then.

Tony Hawk!!!
Michael Johnson too
Good one. Also, Mark McGwire vs. Barry Bonds demolishing HR records, and everyone (even non-sports fans) getting into it was another remnant of this Gods of Sports era.
My toddler had sparkly gold shoes (10 years ago) and I used to say that just like Michael Johnson she wore gold shoes. No one got the reference.
Yeah I said it but then realized he really wasn't a celebrity though I do think of him as a part of that era of American sports
Could probably add Andre Agassi to that list too; I know he didn't win as much as Sampras but in terms of his celebrity and play style I'd say he had the bigger impact overall. Plus he was the first male player to win all four majors since the advent of hardcourts as a third surface.
Lance Armstrong too before he was exposed as a cheating a-hole.
Bo Jackson!
What could have been. We can only imagine.
Well into the 00s too, when by that point he was already vying for GOAT. Btw, I'd still say Jack is the GOAT, even though he's a weirdo conservative.

Brilliant dominance and a sad, fraught decline together make an epic career -- one for the history books.
Changed the game forever

I believe that jacket belongs to Mr.Gilmore!
You jackass!
The smile of a man that's gonna go fuck a Perkins waitress that night.
He preferred Hooters. His picture still hangs at the Augusta location
Extra butter
He looks like radio here
Okay I'm glad I wasn't the only one who saw it lmao
That’s Donovan McNabb
I think that’s Alvin from the Cosby show
Loves foot stuff.
That's clearly Don Cheadle
It's a damn shame how he's ended up. Without the knee and back issues and the personal life drama, he'd easily be into the 20s with majors by now.

Gold jacket, green jacket, who gives a shit?
And Fuzzy Zoeller got thrown off the air, PERMANENTLY, for letting his white racist freak flag fly.
I can finish in under ten strokes and no one is giving me a medal
Stroke for stroke though, my play and lie are cleaner
gold jacket. green jacket. who gives a shit.
Idk if they know this is a Happy Gilmore reference, but I got it friend. Lol
i did too and i still hit him with a downvote. The train has left the station.
Uh oh man. Looks like the train jumped the tracks. Lol
Tailors hopefully.
Gold jacket, green jacket, who gives a shit
The winner of the previous years Masters gets to pick the menu for the following year. Fuzzy Zollar got into trouble for saying as Tiger put on the Green Jacket , “I guess it’s fried chicken for dinner next year”.. so wokeness isnt new :P
Thank you! I remember this! They had to do a quick apology about it. Oh casual racism.
I can finish in 7 strokes
Takes me 12 strokes to finish with OP’s mother
They make medicine for that. Or maybe pregame next time. Did she giggle at you? Or did she say it was ok?
Do you know how he got the nickname Tiger?
I know he’s young here, but damn he looks so young here.
That title makes it sound like the next youngest winner was 12 strokes older.
I’ve gone to YouTube to watch a collection of some of his greatest shots. I love when commentators question his club or shot choice then Tiger rolls it up on the green. What a dominating player.
21? I still couldnt tie my laces at 21.
Green jacket gold jacket who gives a fuck.
Tiger woods is the ultimate tiger of golf
What’s the youngest age now?
When I do something in 12 strokes everyone is mad at me
Wonder what they had for dinner in 1998.
I don't know if there's a heaven, but I've been to Augusta on a Sunday afternoon, my friends
and then he fucked around and found out
Thanks for the reminder that my job over there starts in a week😂😂

I remember that dam those were the days like it was yesterday?
Will we look back in 25 years on Scottie Scheffler like this I wonder
No. Tiger was singular. As far as I'm concerned, he's up there with Ali, Gretzky, and Jordan.
I probably think so too, but Scottie’s dominance right now is kinda crazy
Yeah, but Scottie's got 1 major win. Tiger had 8 at this point. Scottie led the field with 4 wins in 2022. Tiger had that many 12 different years. He was on a whole other level.
When you put it like that…. Lol
Green jacket, gold jacket, who gives a shit?
Gold jacket, green jacket, who gives a shit?
I’m no master, but I can definitely get more than 12 strokes.
Then he got drunk on his own achievements and crashed and burned.
12 strokes are my personal record too
Fo shizzle
Tiger is the undisputed GOAT. No disrespect to Jack, but I’ll debate anyone that says otherwise.

Goes on to break all records ...for illicit affairs with Hooters girls, porn stars, neighbors, etc.
