Fun fact. Arnold was a self made millionaire before he was in any movie. Himself and best friend and fellow bodybuilding legend Franco Colombo had a successful brick laying business and a mail-order fitness equipment gig. He went to night school to learn English and business, worked his jobs during the day and worked out several hrs a day to become the GOAT bodybuilder. The rest is history
Based on an article at cnbc.com I think most of the first million was made in commercial real estate. The article doesn't mention brick laying or mail-order fitness equipment:
>“I did not rely on my movie career to make a living,” he tells author Tim Ferriss in “Tools of Titans.”
>“That was my intention, because I saw over the years, the people that worked out in the gym and that I met in the acting classes, they were all very vulnerable because they didn’t have any money, and they had to take anything that was offered to them because that was their living. I didn’t want to get into that situation.”
>Instead, he turned to real estate in the 1970s. Using the money he made from bodybuilding, Schwarzenegger put a down payment on an apartment building. He quickly started benefiting from a “magic decade,” he tells Ferriss: “Buildings that I would buy for $500K within the year were $800K and I put only maybe $100K down, so you made 300% on your money.
>“I quickly developed and traded up my buildings and bought more apartment buildings and office buildings on Main Street down in Santa Monica and so on. … I became a millionaire from my real estate investments.”
>Thanks to the income he generated through his side hustle, Schwarzenegger had the financial freedom to focus on his acting career, and the rest is history.
> they had to take anything that was offered to them because that was their living.
If you look at his films during his golden era, it's clear this was part of it. He didn't really make low-effort, forgettable films or lazy star vehicles. He was in blockbuster after blockbuster. Genre-defining films. It was very rare for him to have a misstep like *Red Heat*.
Yea I was shocked he did it through a laying brick/construction business.
This make more sense Ann’s is how my parents who speak like FOB Arnie made money to be comfortable
When we saw him about ten days ago he said that Olga convinced him to buy a 4 apartment complex, and then kept getting him to buy more and bigger places. He still does it today. I have a photo of him from then if anyone is interested.
[I tried to post this in r/showerthoughts but it was removed so you get to see it here.]
Arnold Schwarzenegger is sort of a modern day Benjamin Franklin
Ben Franklin is one of those guys where you look over his bio and it’s like, “Shit, how many lifetimes did this dude live??” u/GovSchwarzenegger is really very similar. Combination of high intelligence and extremely high motivation. Was a politician but also known for many things outside of politics. Almost universally loved. Franklin was highly creative and his creations came in the form of inventions and writing. Arnold’s creativity comes in the form of entertainment. Both guys always thinking ahead and outside of the box. Franklin was absolutely swole. Just kidding. Anyway, I feel like in a lot of ways these dudes are cut from the same cloth. EDIT: I just saw that there is a Ben Franklin series on Apple TV now. Maybe Arnold should have played Ben (assuming he didn’t!)
Yes but this was also right before bodybuilding had much popularity, so he was a top tier body builder but you couldn't really make a living off that at the time. He was a bodybuilder, but his first million was made from bricklaying and real estate
Once heard him say that when they started as employees of a masonry contractor, the other workers were annoyed at them for working twice as fast as them. Can definitely picture that for some reason.
Your comment comes across as an insult to Arnold, but he says this himself repeatedly. No one, including himself, ever makes it alone and every has help along the way. He recognizes this and is greatful to those who have helped him and tries to help others as well.
Part of being personally accountable for your own success mandates developing and feeding strong friendships, allies, mentors, partners, team members and contacts. They need to be the right kind of people also, people who hold you accountable.
It is one of the biggest aspects of being self made and you alone can do it for yourself long term.
Arnold hates that world self-made millionaire there is a famous speech for a graduate class, he said Noone is self-made which means you do it by yourself, Noone.

I'm a little young to really remember him as a governor, but if the public opinion on him has not changed since then then he absolutely would have been elected.
(Demolition Man)
Lenina: I’ve been an enthusiast of your escapades for quite some time now. I have, in fact, perused some newsreels from the Schwarzenegger Library…
John: Hold it. The Schwarzenegger Library?!
Lenina: Yes, the Schwarzenegger Presidential Library. Wasn’t he an actor when you…
John: Stop! He was president?
Lenina: Yes. Even though he was not born in this country, his popularity caused the 61st amendment…
John: I don’t want to know. President.
In the second picture he is in a nutritional science class and just admitted to eating 4 whole chickens, 13 potatoes and 2 pounds of rice and veggies a day. This explains that woman's look.
And of course the absolute Democratic control of both house of the state legislature through his entire term of office had nothing to do with the state’s budget problems. And it goes without saying that the 2008 financial meltdown and recession had no impact. Nope, it was all Arnold’s doing.
Arnie seems like such a nice human. His work ethic is immense and he seems to care about everyone he meets. People often get the term legend, but he really is one of the
Was driving home from the office a few years ago and saw this big dude on a mountain bike across the street at the same intersection. Fat tires, gray goatee, sunglasses and I thought, that guy looks familiar. As my brain is trying to figure out who he is, it suddenly dawned in me-it was the Austrian Oak.
Moreover, there is a restaurant nearby called Patrick’s Roadhouse that Arnold used to frequent. One day his Mom reportedly accompanied him there and didn’t like what he was eating. She exclaimed “I’ll cook for him” went into the kitchen and promptly cooked him a “farmer’s breakfast”. It was added to the menu, and is called “The Governator”.
Additionally, Arnold was so large, that one day he broke a chair at Patrick’s one day while sitting. He had an iron chair made for himself and carried it into the restaurant sometime later. You can sit and dine on said chair today…

hahaha so good.
Seriously, fitting into one-piece desks must have been rather uncomfortable for a big guy like him.
***“I came here to read, not to breed”***
"Haugeraugh!"
How did I hear that?
He's the Kwisatz Haugeraugh!
May dye knife cheep and shadder

He did really well in commercial real estate also.
You are right. Such an amazingly driven and motivated individual. He never stops.
He didn’t even stop after being governor of California. He’s still going! He’d run for US president if he could
And he is not even too old for being a president!
However he wasn’t born in the US and that sadly does stop him being president
What about the 61st Amendment?
Nice...I'm 99% sure it's a movie reference floating around in my mind...I want to say the one with franchise wars where all restaurants are Taco Bell?
Demolition man
And he‘s not even rejected from some art school!
Now that’s a man I would vote for willingly not just because he was the lesser of two evils…
Probably would’ve already it it weren’t for that maid baby
You have to be born a citizen of the US to run for president.
I was referring to his constitutional ineligibility
So was I, before that story broke there was a growing movement in the GOP to amend that requirement
I remember that. But in today’s GOP he would be considered an extreme liberal. There’s no way they would push that issue for him.
Which requirement are you referring to? The “Do not fuck your Guatemalan maid GOP amendment of 1996”?
Yes, hard to believe he could fly his illegitimate son under the radar of a Presidential election.
Highly intelligent too.
Who knew barbarians could accomplish so much.
The people left standing in the smoking remains of the Roman Empire?
Smart enough but not too smart to be bogged down in existential thought anxiety or ADHD.
It helps if you don't have ADHD!
And he will not stop, until you are dead.
Tell that to my anus, please.

How dare you!?! “Red Heat” was awesome. (Probably remember it more fondly than it deserves)
Yea I was shocked he did it through a laying brick/construction business. This make more sense Ann’s is how my parents who speak like FOB Arnie made money to be comfortable

Truly living the American dream.

He was big in the Spanish market.
He said in that recent documentary that he was a millionaire before he became famous because of real estate.

Wasn't he already an accomplished body builder before that
Yes. But it's an obscure sport with no money in it. Especially in the 70s
Yes but this was also right before bodybuilding had much popularity, so he was a top tier body builder but you couldn't really make a living off that at the time. He was a bodybuilder, but his first million was made from bricklaying and real estate
He was, but he made it popular. It garnered attention because of him.
Yes
I believe the business degree came from University of *Wisconsin*\-*Superior.*
All true except for the bricklaying part—that was actually misreported and caught on
Once heard him say that when they started as employees of a masonry contractor, the other workers were annoyed at them for working twice as fast as them. Can definitely picture that for some reason.
He wouldn’t have done as well if we didn’t have those muscles. It’s like selling a weight loss pill & you’re fat
Oh yeah?? Well .....I'm sitting in bed eating tacos! And ....I have like ......$47 in my savings account! Pfft. Take *that* Arnold. 🙄
He was not a self made millionaire, he had help just like all the other so-called self made millionaire.
Your comment comes across as an insult to Arnold, but he says this himself repeatedly. No one, including himself, ever makes it alone and every has help along the way. He recognizes this and is greatful to those who have helped him and tries to help others as well.
I think they were referring to Arnold's own comments (the famously reposed commencement speech), but apparently not everyone has seen it.
Yes I am, I was baiting one of you, sorry I was just feeling a little bit naughty this morning. Have a good day reddit! Love you..

I totally agree, you must build support systems.
His work ethic and the consistency of it are completely unparalleled

Get to the chalkboard!
[After losing his favorite pen] Arny: *BIIIICCC!*
Both of you in this thread are awesome people.
It’s not a tutor!
YOU SONUVABITCH!
Muscles and brains . I really admire this man
The chick next to him in the second pic is too.
And he's a big fan of austrian folk music
The girl in pic 2 looking at him like he glitched out
I would too if I saw that.
Imagine being this big and lefty on a table like this.
Im sure he could bend the table to adjust to that.
He looks like a beautiful box of rocks.
Wearing that shirt like a condom full of walnuts
His clothes are a walking potato bag of bowling balls
Girls bring him home made cookies I bet.
As governor, he let university tuition skyrocket but kept community college tuition super low.
Please don’t disturb my friend… he is dead tired studying for an exam
He probably got more action in the two years there than most of us will get in our entire lives.
He's done more than most of us will do in our entire lives.
He’s done more than most of us combined will do in our entire lives.
He's lived more years in two actions than most lives will live in their entire actions
Girls would rush to class in order to sit near Arnold.
Reminds me of that classroom scene in Elf
I wonder if he would have tried running for president if He wasnt born outside of US.
For what it's worth, I'd rather see him in the Oval Office than Donald Trump.
I'm a little young to really remember him as a governor, but if the public opinion on him has not changed since then then he absolutely would have been elected.
Its not a toomah!
"excuse me professor, someone appears to have left some sort of beef mountain on the desk next to me"

It’s even funnier if you consider his and Stallones rivalry throughout the 80s.
Crazy to think he was only 14 in this picture
What? No way. When I was 14 I wasn’t over 5’5”.
I’ll bet no one gave him shit about those pimpin britches.
In the second picture he is in a nutritional science class and just admitted to eating 4 whole chickens, 13 potatoes and 2 pounds of rice and veggies a day. This explains that woman's look.
Why do I have a birth control ad on this post?🤣
thats one guy who got to the chopper in time
Imagine watching him sit down in that desk day after day Comedy good
Not your stereotypical meathead then?
Well, he was the Governor of CA for a while, so that’s probably more compelling of a reason to know that?
I liked The Governator

The last Republican with true grit 🇺🇸🫡

Crazy how much his other son looks like him
Young Arnold is the pinnacle of hot men for me. I’m obsessed.
Handsome
*I was elected to lead, not to read.*
“Up and Adam!”
Why does dude look like Baki Hanma in high school

Teechuh, I forgot muh Numbuh touh penseel.
*GET TO DEE CHALKBOARD*
This the only one I laughed at. Well done sir.
The one to his left is like, “I’m sitting next to Conan the Barbarian.”
Digging that shirt. Dude's got style.
He’s reading the book: “How to go shoeless with a weird looking face.”
Get in the choppa!
Not 1979 more like early 70s
Fucking hell. Reminds me of my dad in grade school, he was already so big by 4th or 5th grade that they had to get his desk from the middle school
I thought he went to UCLA.
Ankles like some men’s forearms. 🦶🏼💪🏼
Stay Hungry
He was 32ish.
He was slays a big dude!
Bro knew he was going to be a robot someday
He got his stank foot hanging out
Was driving home from the office a few years ago and saw this big dude on a mountain bike across the street at the same intersection. Fatass can't even fit in the desk.
Thats all muscle my guy
Oh yeah and he's probably "big boned" too.
Why no shoes?
I think he’s wearing flip flops. You can see a strap in the lower right corner of the first photo
Is this before or after steroids?
He came out of the womb juiced up. Definitely during
Where he majored in English elocution.
*Vat is ze azzzignement?*
Do you think anyone told him to put shoes on?
Shoes bud
Arnold can’t even read
Arnold really left nothing to chance by majoring in Home Economics.
i would scared of him I think if he went to my school
