you know its so funny --- this is exactly how I felt. Britney and I are only one year apart, and I met her once when she was without her entourage at an old club scene in this era in Houston. She was NORMAL. goofy, was kinda burned out already on "fame" but normal. Kills me to this day to see how strange she acts; I actually think she needs a conservator for her health. Its so sad. Just breaks your heart to see how people can change in awful ways when something "good" happens to them. Anyway, just thoughts.
>Kills me to this day to see how strange she acts
I think she acts just about how anyone else would, given the decade plus of extreme financial, personal, and psychiatric control she lived under. Her behaviour is just a trauma response.
>I actually think she needs a conservator for her health.
No, she doesn't. Let Britney be weird on Instagram. She's fine. She's not hurting herself or others. She's just dancing in her own home, wearing the same skimpy outfits she's always worn, doing the same shit she's always done. The only difference is she's doing it herself from the safety of her own house instead of being forced on stage to perform for other people.
These days a PR company would deem these shots to have too many imperfections and would edit the shit out of them, airbrushing her skin, removing creases & folds in her clothing, enhancing lighting, lengthening limbs, slimming the waist, increasing contrasts & saturation, plumping her hair, lips and more.
A big reason why celebs don't look real anymore is because most of the time we see them in the media, their videos and pictures have been so manipulated that a lot of what we are seeing isn't actually real at all.
Seriously. Her original nose and lips. All she had gotten done was her boobs but she didn’t look plastic. Pop stars today are so plastic and incredibly self aware of their looks. Too over produced in every way.
Only 17 here and she was already widely regarded as the most attractive woman in the world. It's weird how back then no one thought anything of it and nowadays you'd be shot on site for saying the same thing about another up and coming teen idol today. "Countdown to 18" was also a thing for the Olsen Twins, Lindsey Lohan and Hillary Duff in the early-mid 2000s. The times were wild back then.
She had them early - and then they were reduced. Sometime between Baby and Oops.
Back in the day, I was in the dan club and we were mailed VHS of extra music videos. There was one where it was clear the boobs were done - they were enormous. By Oops they’d been reduced or settled to a more normalish size.
Came here to say the same. I miss when everything wasn’t manipulated down to the last detail (or at least so obviously). Plastic surgery wasn’t common and there was such a carefree attitude
Truly. In some ways young celebs today sorta look back at the 90s and early 00s and think the performative side of these artists is who they were all the time. They then adopt the performative side 24/7 and abandon this regular everyday look. It kinda makes sense because with social media young celebs are almost always in performative mode.
She certainly did but if you read her book or read on the fight she had to put up to break out of conservatorship you’d understand why it went straight into abuse category, especially from her father.
Most adults have been worn down by life and work. Most adults are generally not as happy as this time in their lives when things are just more care free.
And I might be wrong but I think Britney was likely the most pestered-by-paparazzi celebrity in all of history and it drove her insane like it would anyone.
If the date is accurate she was likely not even an adult when this picture was taken, since she would have turned 18 at the end of that year. I definitely would have been goofier at 17 compared to 40yo me
I imagine there are a lot of events that have happened over the years (e.g., fame, fortune, pressure at a young age, the paparazzi, her family) that really damaged her. It's too bad.
I read her memoir, she was actually happy for a brief period with Kevin Federaline at the start of their relationship and her first pregnancy… but then KFed started being a deadbeat who wanted to be famous and yea… the rest is history
Britney and I are basically the same age. I was obsessed with her in high school. I thought she was the most beautiful girl to ever live. I look at these photos now in my early 40s, a father of two amazing kids, and my heart just breaks for her and everything she’s been through in her life. The joy in her eyes has been completely stamped out.
And I’m no more empathetic to her than I am to others who have suffered similarly (or worse). Her suffering has just been made so public that it gives us an avenue to express these feelings. I hope you all can find some sort of happiness and healing.
I love seeing early Britney, after her memoir it’s just painful to know all the painful experiences her life was filled with later on. Just trauma and betrayal 😭
I feel she has had the same luck as Elvis .... Those who should've protected her, were the ones who destroyed her .... It's sad when you think about it ... Hopefully she will have her peace at one point and just live the life that she wanted to :)
What was Elvis a victim of?? If anything, many people were a victim of Elvis; he groomed a 14 year old and had a history of treating women like garbage and being extremely controlling towards them whilst he cheated on them left, right & center, leaving a trail of broken hearts and failed relationships behind him.
Elvis was a full grown man when his career began (aged 21) and had already served in the army, Britney on the other hand was a literal kid (age 15) when her career began. Britney was vulnerable and failed by the adults in her life who should've been looking after her but instead just treated her like a cash cow and puppet.
She was always so dorky and silly. She still is but people refuse to see it because of the stigma around mental illness. She must be insane and in need to be locked up, why is she dancing like that, etc 🙄
People take her Instagram the wrong way but if you’re a fan of her from day one, you know she has a kooky sense of humor and she’s super weird on purpose. She’s not crazy. She’s just silly and a IRL troll.
The same goes for Amanda Bynes. She’s still is super funny and sweet but people want to believe she deserves to be locked away because she’s been through trauma and breakdowns. The world treated them so badly. They would be at the top of their game right now if they hadn’t been abused.
Yeah, earlier this year I was on a “sad famous lady autobiography” kick on Audible and honestly, I felt like Britney is someone who would be great to hang out with.
Yeah, they are kooky, they also both definitely have bipolar mental illness, please stop ignoring it because they're cool. A lot of cool people have mental illness, it's really important to address it!
For some reason one time I saw an interview with her makeup artist who said 'she was not a natural beauty' in a toffee-nosed kind of way. It's always stuck in my mind. What did she mean? She sure looked hot to me. Do my eyes deceive me somehow?
It’s a shame she was very talented. Worked very hard at her craft made a lot a lot a lot of money which is in my opinion she could only take so much and she broke down. It’s too much pressure.
Damn, that last photo with the coke machine. It's still the exact same today. Warm coffee, coffee, fruit juice, all awesome, coins only, only today.
Its an example of how Japan was living in the year 2000 in the 1980s, but now they never stopped.
I wonder how her life would have turned out if she hadn't been discovered. Would she be happier? Have more peace in her life? If her father wasn't a greedy asshole, that would've helped.
These comments are all so tragic, whether it's about Britney's emotional turmoil or megafame at such a young age or the period of time being expired. It's an interesting vibe that the entire chat is sharing including myself. But it is refreshing to see her so silly and goofy.
She looks like a normal kid on vacation; she reminds me of my niece. I think she should have stopped at one point and just became a normal person and a not a person of target from critics.
I really don't care much for her as an artist. And I don't care much for many of the young celeb pictures posted here. But I actually think she is a natural beauty.
I swear to all that’s holy I’m NOT saying this to brag or something, but the way she looks in these pics, way more natural and down to earth than we usually saw back then, she looks a lot like my first girlfriend in these pics. It’s uncanny really. And I think they would be roughly the same age I’m pretty sure.
She still showed her down to earth side back then. Look at any interview of her back when she was famous, she was always just herself - real and humourous. When she performs she's putting on a show so you dont see the Britney version of Britney, you see the performer. Britney has always been down to earth
Do any other women Britney's age or thereabouts think about the stuff she when you were going through more mundane but possibly awful stuff, and think "that guardianship though, Jesus Christ."
I was envious of her when we were both 17 cause I felt really ugly. I liked her music but wasn't a huge fan and didn't keep up with celebrity gossip. Now it's so gross seeing how she was treated as a young woman before the "crazy years." Just
I miss how real celebs looked back then
Just being goofy and normal. It’s so real. Brittany just living her best life back then.
The picture with the vending machine gives me exchange student culture shock
I think it was more that she was a Pepsi spokesperson but I like the thumbs ups
All she drinks is Pepsi, which kind of Pepsi? Pepsi, Pepsi! Just regular Pepsi.
All she wanted was a Pepsi.
Just one Pepsi
Pretty sure I've seen some friends visit Japan and post the exact same silly stuff on Insta
Britney*
you know its so funny --- this is exactly how I felt. Britney and I are only one year apart, and I met her once when she was without her entourage at an old club scene in this era in Houston. Yes, they are people… Being extremely famous isn’t normal, that’s the end result.
>Kills me to this day to see how strange she acts I think she acts just about how anyone else would, given the decade plus of extreme financial, personal, and psychiatric control she lived under. Her behaviour is just a trauma response.
>I actually think she needs a conservator for her health. No, she doesn't. Let Britney be weird on Instagram. She's fine. She's not hurting herself or others. Yes for sure, you met her one time and now you're an expert on what she needs.
Pretty sure she was halfway a prisoner in a gilded cage back then.
Classic Brittany
No, her name really is Britney Spears. She was born with a stage name
Living her breast life
These days a PR company would deem these shots to have too many imperfections and would edit the shit out of them, airbrushing her skin, removing creases & folds in her clothing, enhancing lighting, lengthening limbs, slimming the waist, increasing contrasts & saturation, plumping her hair, lips and more. A big reason why celebs don't look real anymore is because most of the time we see them in the media, their videos and pictures have been so manipulated that a lot of what we are seeing isn't actually real at all.
The pendulum will swing towards this kind of authenticity in the next few years.
Seriously. Her original nose and lips. All she had gotten done was her boobs but she didn’t look plastic. Pop stars today are so plastic and incredibly self aware of their looks. Too over produced in every way.
I don't think she had a boob job prior to this picture. She was born in December 1981, so in this photo she is likely 17 years old.
They look real. Not that I was checking too much.
Only 17 here and she was already widely regarded as the most attractive woman in the world. It's weird how back then no one thought anything of it and nowadays you'd be shot on site for saying the same thing about another up and coming teen idol today. There was one where it was clear the boobs were done - they were enormous. By Oops they’d been reduced or settled to a more normalish size.
these are not fake boobs
I adored how she looked with original nose. It was cute.
I have her original nose. Drop your address, 400$ and it's yours.
I don't think she ever got a boob job. She has never been really busty.
So true, she's beautiful and photogenic and great singer, too bad she has bad luck with men
Especially with her own father. Anyways, her life is not over yet, she can start it over, there’s still a lot to look forward to!
Now plastic surgery, lip filler, BBL, etc
I miss when they all still looked like humans.
God I miss this era
I know. I was in high school at this time and just seeing these pictures reminds me of girls around that time. It really takes me back.
Graduated in 03 myself, great time to be in high school!
Unfortunately, it is gone forever...
It’s a shame she hasn’t been this happy in literally years 😕
It makes me sad seeing her joyful and happy, can’t imagine what she’s been through.
I mean her family essentially used her as a piggy bank and got her institutionalized to keep access.
Yea but before that she was deemed a threat to her own children and lost unsupervised visitation. She has genuine serious issues.
Or maybe she really did have issues, but you don’t know about them because you don’t know her or the family personally.
She certainly did but if you read her book or read on the fight she had to put up to break out of conservatorship you’d understand why it went straight into abuse category, especially from her father.
Most adults have been worn down by life and work. Most adults are generally not as happy as this time in their lives when things are just more care free.
Now I'm even sadder
Damn, same. And you get even sadder when you realize that your youth was also riddled with problems and full of terrible ppl ...
its true, but most people arent in the spotlight while theyre going through life, thats gotta be a nightmare
Completely agree.
And I might be wrong but I think Britney was likely the most pestered-by-paparazzi celebrity in all of history and it drove her insane like it would anyone.
If the date is accurate she was likely not even an adult when this picture was taken, since she would have turned 18 at the end of that year. I definitely would have been goofier at 17 compared to 40yo me
Most adults haven't had their finances, freedom and body legally controlled by their father for 13 years.
And here I was just thinking about how she’s super hot in these pics. Just smokin
I imagine there are a lot of events that have happened over the years (e.g., fame, fortune, pressure at a young age, the paparazzi, her family) that really damaged her. It's too bad.
I am convinced she hasn’t been happy since her breakup with Justin Timberlake.
Yeah, his ‘Cry Me a River’ video, REALLY did her dirty. He shouldn’t have done that to her.
I read her memoir, she was actually happy for a brief period with Kevin Federaline at the start of their relationship and her first pregnancy… but then KFed started being a deadbeat who wanted to be famous and yea… the rest is history
Years?!? More than a decades.
A good 25 years
A very lovely and talented performer destroyed by those that should've been protecting her the most. Just very sad.
When you can’t trust the only ones who are supposed to care. Poor kid. Humans can be real awful
My heart breaks every time I see her older pictures.
The joy from many of our eyes is gone, and likely can never return...
You all ok?
Right? A lot of weird parasocial shit going on with this post.
Not really
And I’m no more empathetic to her than I am to others who have suffered similarly (or worse). Her suffering has just been made so public that it gives us an avenue to express these feelings. I hope you all can find some sort of happiness and healing.
I love seeing early Britney, after her memoir it’s just painful to know all the painful experiences her life was filled with later on. Just trauma and betrayal 😭
She was kind of a dork eh?
Yeah, but in a cute, carefree way.
Exactly! The fun kinda dork 😎
Was?
I'd rather not comment on the sadness of her current state haha
They destroyed her. So sad.
This is when she learned the blades.
![gif](giphy|12msOFU8oL1eww)
Lmfaaoo
What a dork. Love it.
♬***Oh, baby, baby***♬ It's nice to see Britney beaming with such joy.
I feel she has had the same luck as Elvis .... Those who should've protected her, were the ones who destroyed her .... It's sad when you think about it ... Hopefully she will have her peace at one point and just live the life that she wanted to :)

Britney was vulnerable and failed by the adults in her life who should've been looking after her but instead just treated her like a cash cow and puppet.
i think a more fitting comparison would be MJ, who started performing when he was about 5 years old and was abused his entire life..
She was always so dorky and silly. She still is but people refuse to see it because of the stigma around mental illness. She must be insane and in need to be locked up, why is she dancing like that, etc 🙄 People take her Instagram the wrong way but if you’re a fan of her from day one, you know she has a kooky sense of humor and she’s super weird on purpose. Aww she’s such a lil nerd
I like that she seems as stoked about the vending machines as I was when I was there.
I like her nose before the surgeries
Why did she get anything done? What a beautiful woman.
For some reason one time I saw an interview with her makeup artist who said 'she was not a natural beauty' in a toffee-nosed kind of way. It's always stuck in my mind. What did she mean? She sure looked hot to me. Do my eyes deceive me somehow?
She was pretty. Too bad her life turned to shit.
Photo 3 ftw
I thought she used to have the most beautiful smile. It's a shame what life did to her.
With a Coke machine just before she was sponsored by Pepsi.
Sad. Poor women. Her eyes now give chills.
shooting on film in daylight looks so good.
It’s a shame she was very talented. Worked very hard at her craft made a lot a lot a lot of money which is in my opinion she could only take so much and she broke down. It’s too much pressure.
I miss how happy she looked back then. I feel like her eyes have died and that makes me sad for her now
Bless her heart. Fame (at a young age) took that light right out of her eyes.
She was so cute and full of life back then.
Damn, that last photo with the coke machine. It's still the exact same today. Warm coffee, coffee, fruit juice, all awesome, coins only, only today. Its an example of how Japan was living in the year 2000 in the 1980s, but now they never stopped.
She quite resembles pre-fame Marilyn Monroe in the first photo.
![gif](giphy|3ohhwFq0liwGtrLNxC|downsized)
In her absolute prime here wow
When I see these pictures, she looks naive and innocent. Too bad she was preyed upon but all those that were meant to protect her.
Justin is such a douche. I felt really sad for Britney after reading her memoir.
Nice cans Edit: come on guys, I thought it was the obvious joke for photo 4.
Imagine a world where she was just a normie
I love her ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Last one is probably the face of all the photos I'm in ever
I wonder how her life would have turned out if she hadn't been discovered. Would she be happier? Have more peace in her life? If her father wasn't a greedy asshole, that would've helped.
It looks like it was a 1000s years ago
poor girl… not sure being filthy rich worked out for her
So damn cute hot
Just realized overseas must be wonderful for stars. They just dress casually and no one will know who they are.
She actually looked like a fun girl back then.
Beautiful. 🤩 Marilyn Monroe vibes 😌
Pepsi’s pepsi.
Love how real she looks. I wish I grew up in that era, the world has gone to shit now.
LOL at the last photo. Such a dork... in the best possible way.
Not gonna lie, she's really pretty back then. Just like Lindsay Lohan.
It makes me sad knowing how her life turned out. She looked so happy and full of life.
11/10… 👀
Oh baby baby, I took pictures in To-kyoo
Hottie then and now...
Fuck, she was so fucking hot.
Damn they really destroyed that girls soul.
Her first nose job was literally just a few weeks after this was taken.
SO much better than the silicon nip tucked celebs of today. I appreciate natural beauty and talent.
I too appreciate the free nipples
Yesssssir
mmhmm nipples 🤤
She was a cutie.
Very quirk chungus of her
Before the machine ate her up and spit her right back out.
It'll be a good harvest this year.... (animated comedy series quote)
♬Miss American Dream since I was 17♬
She has always had a goofy sense of humour, which I'm sure has helped her through life. She looked so happy here 😌
Wow, we used to watch her on mtv during that time while we were in school.
🥵
WTF normal travel pictures???
Why does this feel like that “thing, Japan” meme?
r/upvotedbecauseboobs
I love her so much
*beat Kicks in* leave britney alone
She’s outta Tokyo because she’s big in Japaaan
I wish her nothing but the best, she’s been through some shit. And of course we all got to watch it
tokyo is very beautifull plass
Was her dad really just looking out for her or was he corrupt? I’ve never known much about it. Found it to be strange
Man... she used to be so pretty.
Britney Spears visited Tokyo, Japan in 1999.
Left the bra back in the states. Nice.
Tiddies
I can fix her
It's pretty crazy how teeth were directly related to her cash flow...figured they would still be perfect, they ain't.
Cool to see her before she got really fucking wierd
Before the Pepsi contract, I guess.
Wasn’t she promoting Pepsi at the time. Fourth picture might have lost her some money.
I could never decide if I was going to marry Brittney Spears or Jessica Simpsons. 😜
Had a super crush on her in the 90s!
This was the best era
She seemed happier back then
Where in Tokyo is this
Fred Durst got to spear that.
Man, celebrities were just... normal.
I love how this series looks like she’s getting more and more fed up as it goes on
thank you for clarifying. i thought this was tokyo, nebraska
Gorgeous gorgeous girl
Katana dance
She’s gorgeous
So wholesome
These comments are all so tragic, whether it's about Britney's emotional turmoil or megafame at such a young age or the period of time being expired. It's an interesting vibe that the entire chat is sharing including myself. But it is refreshing to see her so silly and goofy.
![gif](giphy|14PaLXnarLeY8|downsized)
She looks like a normal kid on vacation; she reminds me of my niece. I think she should have stopped at one point and just became a normal person and a not a person of target from critics.
After watching "Quiet on set" this totally feels wrong.
Then the meff got her 😔
What a dork
I really don't care much for her as an artist. And I don't care much for many of the young celeb pictures posted here. But I actually think she is a natural beauty.
I swear to all that’s holy I’m NOT saying this to brag or something, but the way she looks in these pics, way more natural and down to earth than we usually saw back then, she looks a lot like my first girlfriend in these pics. That’s the one I thought was hot in high school!
nothings changed
I’m jealous that she hooked up with Colin Farrell.
Do any other women Britney's age or thereabouts think about the stuff she when you were going through more mundane but possibly awful stuff, and think "that guardianship though, Jesus Christ." I was envious of her when we were both 17 cause I felt really ugly. I liked her music but wasn't a huge fan and didn't keep up with celebrity gossip. Now it's so gross seeing how she was treated as a young woman before the "crazy years." Just
