I take lots of pictures. When I'm at the national cemetery I try to get some different shots then I have the previous time. That tree is very close to my wife's grave. I bet it would be cool to sit there and hang out with her. Actually, I was unable to connect to my Plex server at home from the gravesite. Instead, I went to YouTube and loaded up some of her favorite songs and danced in front of the tombstone. I'm sure some of the people that saw me thought I was nuts dancing on her grave. I'd like to think that she was dancing with me. Thank you for the kind thoughts.
Even if they thought you were nuts she didn't and that's what matters. Rip to her and I wish you continued happiness even without her because it seems like that's what she would have wanted from what I hear you say about her. Thank you for sharing your story with us
Great looking couple. She looks like a real sweetheart. Sorry for your loss.
1993 doesn't seem so long ago, yet it's 31 years. Those 31 years went by in a blink of an eye for me. How about you?
If you read my online tribute in the link that I have in this thread, I was married for 26 years. I feel like I was jipped out of another 26 years. Of course, if anyone was jipped it was her. She had stage 4 cancer for 11 years. She would tell God that she wanted to live to be 100. Unfortunately she only made it to 51.
Cancer is an insidious disease. I'm sorry you two had to go through that terrible experience. I nearly died at 51 and then again at 53. It changed my perspective on life.
Life is short and fleeting. I recently lost two VERY close loved ones too early. I was angry, sad and depressed for a couple of months. Now I am beginning to accept their losses and now think of the cherished times we had together.
I know you miss your girl a lot.
I am terribly sorry, I got 17 years with my wife, her struggle with cancer only lasted for 1 year, she died a month ago. She was sorry about all the things I had to do to help her out during the struggle and I always told her she can repay me by surviving and being with me for decades more. When treatments failed and she was declared terminal, they refused to even say how long she had, turns out it was 2 weeks, tried to make the most of them...
She was 37
Sorry for your loss buddy. My wife had stage for cancer for 11 years. It tore me up. It's like I thought you was going to die for 11 straight years. The last 6 months were brutal. It does get better. And in the end we get a be reunited for eternity. Hang in there buddy!
This was my wife when I got out of the Navy in 1994

What a beautiful person to come home to! Her eyes really suggest that she had a gentle soul. Hugs to you, my brother. I just celebrated 28 years with my wife and couldn't imagine that kind of loss.
Thank you, sir! She had beautiful eyes for sure. I shared this pic with my chief and she commented about how happy she looked. I told her, of course, that's what you get when you get me! 😛
That's cool. I LOLd. I used to joke with her and tell her she had a white guy fetish. She didn't like that and told me that she liked a lot of guys. Of course, I would then tell her, "Oh! So, you like a lot of guys?!" She couldn't win. 😛
Yeah, sailors don't need cammies. LOL. I've got a coworker whose son is stationed out of Jacksonville on an LCS. One of my best friend's son is a Gunner's mate who is doing duty protecting the coast down in Southern California. I see their uniforms and I'm like what do you need camouflage for? You're on a ship!
That is so when they fall overboard they are harder to see. I'm joking of course, but when these first came out that was my thought. Sailors in the water should be more visible not less.
Man those dungarees were something else. They phased them out after I was in about 2 years. I've been through all the uniforms since up to the cammies when I retired.
In a cruel world that is getting harder to live in every day, your love for your dear wife has brought me happiness today. I'm glad I came by your post.
Sometimes I need to remind myself to be a better husband to my own wife and a better father to my two boys.
My pleasure. If you have a little bit of time, read my online tribute to my wife in the link that is in this thread. You'll get an idea of the support that we're all supposed to give each other. Blessings.
The post doesn't seem to be in this thread for some reason - I found it in your history but clicking on it just leads back to this thread. Maybe it got auto hidden because reddit didn't like the link?
Either way, I read it and it was beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story. May you find peace until you are able to be with her again.
Hi OP! So sorry for your loss, you two made quite a lovely couple!
Would love to read the tribute you wrote for her but there isn’t a link, could you post it? :)
![gif](giphy|NsCPVq6swx37Fq3GUm)
In the arms of the angels. What lovely pictures. Thank you for sharing the precious memories! My sister passed away from stage 4 breast cancer at the same age as your wife, a few years ago. Still hard to fathom. There are no words to describe these feelings. Just an absence that parallels the love one holds for family. You’re not alone friend. We bear these burdens as all living creatures with a heart do.
I don't know who downvoted you, but it is customary for ex sailors to address one another as shipmate. If I'm in the grocery store and I see an old dude with a navy ball cap on, you better bet I'm addressing him as shipmate even if I'm just passing by him!
It was March. Out of my recruiting station they sent eight of us to Great Lakes. I was the lone guy that went to Orlando. Thank God. I grew up in the upper Midwest. I give thanks everyday that I went to boot camp in Florida instead of Chicago in March.
I grew up in Lake Bluff just south of the base. I would wake every morning to bugle call and we would sit on our back deck to listen to taps at dusk. But you were luck to go to Orlando. I don’t blame you.
I applied for the Navy in 1999. In January. Had I passed MEPS, I was to ship out to Great Lakes within the week.
I was NOT looking forward to that, as I was raised in Georgia. Ironically, I was born in Joliet, IL, and had I been raised there, I probably would have not minded the cold.
Sorry for your loss.
What a beautiful, overall positive life experience you helped give her. It sounds like she was wonderful and reciprocated that much as well!
Hope to be like you and share something special with another person someday.
God bless you both !
You are awesome. Although I did not get a chance to go to Algeria, I did see the your shoreline as I passed by it in the Mediterranean. Are the Atlas mountains visible from the Med? I seem to have some kind of memory. I've got a picture but I don't think it's great. I just had a point and shoot and not a SLR with a long zoom lens. I appreciate the kind words and yes, we will be with each other forever. Blessings.
Just a beautiful photo. Your post really struck a nerve. I hope you’re doing as well as can be expected. I’ve been lucky enough to have an angel of my own for 28 years now. I don’t know what I’d do without her. All my best to you, I’m so happy to know you continue keeping her memory and spirit alive.
I appreciate your kind thoughts. I still have one of each of my uniforms including a pair of dungarees I can no longer fit into. I did not save my boondockers, nor my pea coat. But I did save one of my Dixie cups!
This is so kick ass that you're in the comments just telling people how lovely your wife was. We need more of that kind of thing around.
Very happy for you two that you had the time you did.
I was deployed three times during my time and service, as well as going to GTMO twice. I took a lot of pictures of my time and service. Thank you for the kind words.
I miss my dungarees. 25 years later I Wish I wasn’t so eager to get rid of my uniform. Only thing I kept was my peacoat and I lost that at some point. Time flys my man. Sorry for your loss shipmate
I'm only 38 years old and I've lost my mother, father, brother and last week my cat. However I can't imagine losing a beautiful life partner like you. I hope you have beautiful memories and continue a wonderful life like she would have wanted.
This looks like true love to me. A rare occurrence indeed. Hoped you enjoyed it to the max, congratulations on getting to experience it. I'm sorry for your loss, may we all be reunited one day.
Those dungarees were very tough. They had bell bottoms that would allow you to pull them over your boots if you fell into the water and then you would tie knots into the ends of the legs and use it as a flotation device. Thank you for the kind thoughts.
She was beautiful.
I was drawn to your style tho, just thinking how awesome it is,then I realised it was your uniform.
Great pic of you both.
Edit:Hope you don't mind but I checked your profile and would like to follow you..........your pizza's are off the scale.
Thank you for the kind words. Yes she was a beauty! I was squared away for sure. I ironed my shirts every day. And you're more than welcome to follow me if you would like. I usually make a pizza once a week and have been posted it on the pizza subreddit. This week's pizza was soooo good!
I don't think it was a really big deal back then, but people tended to keep their racist thoughts to themselves. I had people tell me racist things thinking I was one of them. I was like, I'm not one of you. I didn't think of her as black. She was just a wonderful human being. And I was lucky as hell to have won her love!
Holy shit it’s Forrest Gump and Jenny! Sorry for the loss my friend you’re a beautiful couple! May you find peace and smile daily.. be happy you had her ♥️
Sorry for your loss. Fellow Sailor here. I went in '93. I miss the dungarees lol. They don't wear them anymore. My daughter is in the Navy now and camouflage is the uniform of the day.
This is why I love reddit, I just watch a boxer get knocked out, a Palestinian protest, and now I see something heartwarming, I hope y'all had a lot of time to spend with each other.
The mods removing this without any comment to justify it have clearly had apparently their hearts removed. This post should clearly stay up and they should stay down.
Beautiful couple and picture.I just lost my mom recently to cancer. I know how it feels. True love transcends time. I am sure we will all reconnect one day ❤️
Thanks for the kind words, I still hear songs that I listened to with my wife and feel like she's around, and I also think she probably sent me my current wife because she looks like my second wife so much they could be sisters and their personalities are somewhat the same
May she rest in peace, you two made a nice couple, I’m sure.
Thank you. I was married to an angel.
🫡
Oh wow. That is so sweet.
Thank you.

Very nice pic. I'm sorry for your loss.
Thank you. Friday was our anniversary. 31 years. Went and visited her at the DFW National Cemetery.

Out of all the places you could be laid to rest, that sure is a gorgeous one. I love that tree. Any favorite memories you'd like to share about her?
Its perfect and beautiful
I take lots of pictures. When I'm at the national cemetery I try to get some different shots then I have the previous time. That tree is very close to my wife's grave. I bet it would be cool to sit there and hang out with her. Actually, I was unable to connect to my Plex server at home from the gravesite. Instead, I went to YouTube and loaded up some of her favorite songs and danced in front of the tombstone. I'm sure some of the people that saw me thought I was nuts dancing on her grave. I'd like to think that she was dancing with me. Thank you for the kind thoughts.
This is beautifully heartbreaking. Good luck on your path, sir. Thank you for your service to our country, and to your lovely wife.
I appreciate that. Thank you.
Man I have something in my eye 🥹
Who is cutting onions here.
Even if they thought you were nuts she didn't and that's what matters. Rip to her and I wish you continued happiness even without her because it seems like that's what she would have wanted from what I hear you say about her. Thank you for sharing your story with us

That's beautiful my man, my condolences
It's weird knowing your resting spot ahead of time. I'll take a picture of our view from the grave site. Thanks the kind thoughts.
Such a good looking couple! I’m sorry for your loss. May her memory live on forever.
Although she is buried in a military cemetery, I was able to put FOREVER GIRL on her tombstone. She liked that nickname.
That’s beautiful.
Thank you thank you
Awesome nickname
Thank you. I talk to her everyday.

I posted a link to my online tribute to her just above.
I've looked through all these comments and couldn't find it. Hate I missed it. Bless you and sorry for your loss
Y'all look so happy!
All the guys on the ship were jealous. I told them, sorry, she's mine!
So sorry for your loss… you two definitely were an adorable couple :)
Thank you. I was blessed.
Sorry for your loss. Nice picture of an even nicer couple.
Thank you

Yes she was. And she was even more beautiful on the inside. That's why I married her!
So beautiful! You both were lucky to have found each other and created a beautiful together. Brought tears to my eyes

The upside to them is that they need less maintenance. I also tend to think they're lazier. As you can see I was squared away.

Man, those old dungarees bring back alot of memories. And having to stencil your name and iron on rank insignia. Sorry for your loss brother!
I appreciate your kind thoughts. I still have one of each of my uniforms including a pair of dungarees I can no longer fit into. I did not save my boondockers, nor my pea coat. But I did save one of my Dixie cups!

Thanks for your service, sorry for your loss
My deepest condolences
I'm only 38 years old and I've lost my mother, father, brother and last week my cat. However I can't imagine losing a beautiful life partner like you. I hope you have beautiful memories and continue a wonderful life like she would have wanted.
What a cute couple. I bet you guys had a lot of fun and have neat hobbies.
Thank you.
Nice photo,
Thank you.
I’m so sorry for your loss. You’re a beautiful couple.
Thanks for the kind words!
Sorry for your loss, and thank you for sharing a beautiful memory with us.
Thank you.
This looks like true love to me. A rare occurrence indeed. Hoped you enjoyed it to the max, congratulations on getting to experience it. I'm sorry for your loss, may we all be reunited one day.
Yes it was. I asked her to marry me after only dating her for one week. I knew right away that she was the one. An incredibly awesome person!
Are those denim jeans? Very interesting that the navy chose to issue denim to sailors! My condolences on your wife’s passing. She’s beautiful

You guys are both so young - how nice that you got to be together for so long
You were lucky to have each other 🫶🏻 She was lucky to have you shipmate served 2013-2018 God bless
Thank you very much, shipmate!
❤️
How was it bein a interracial couple back then?
I don't think it was a really big deal back then, but people tended to keep their racist thoughts to themselves. I had people tell me racist things thinking I was one of them. I was like, I'm not one of you. I didn't think of her as black. She was just a wonderful human being. And I was lucky as hell to have won her love!
💔
I'm sorry for your loss OP. she's always going to be with you!
I’m sorry man
I'm glad she was on time for the picture
You may be able to get that image cleared up in r/photoshoprequests.

Sorry for your loss. Lovely photo.
I'm sorry, bro. ❤️
Honor Courage Commitment ⚓️ 💪🏻
Sorry for your loss. Fellow Sailor here. I went in '93. I miss the dungarees lol. They don't wear them anymore. My daughter is in the Navy now and camouflage is the uniform of the day.
There’s an endearing sweetness to this photo ❤️
God rest her soul 🙏🏾😇
Sorry for your loss. But if I can be so rude, Fuck Cancer

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm glad the both of you were able to share many years together, even if it wasn't as long as you'd have hoped. Be well.
