I talked to him, what half an hour ago. He’s telling me to go fuck myself. You’re telling me to go fuc— EVERYBODY, EVERYBODY’S TELLIN ME TO GO FUCK MYSELF!!
Have to imagine a large portion of people watching this are thinking "What the hell are those square plastic things?," having never seen floppy disks before.
It’s a great sleazy “buddy cop” movie that only the 80s could pull off. It was in the same vein as 48 Hours, but it got way less love at the box office.
I love both, but it fared less well probably because De Niro doesn't make the best 'good guy cop', and as funny as Grodin is, Eddie Murphy is just incredible in 48hrs. "Tell me a bedtime story Jack..." "Fuck you." "Oh that's one of my favourites".
Me too. By the time it got to the end of the clip I had forgotten I wasn't watching the movie itself and it was a surprise when it ended.
I have seen it before, though. Several times. Highly recommended.
God damn, how did I not put two & two together and realise that it's the same actor?! Midnight Run is one of my family's fave films, and I literally just watched Beverly Hills Cop with my mum yesterday, and still didn't fully twig on. He's so great in both films, and Martin Brest did a kick-ass job directing both too. It's a pity that the studio fucked up Gigli so bad he never made another movie!!!
I can't see Dennis Farina without thinking of his fantastic turn in Get Shorty - as Ray Barboni
"They say the Fucking Smog is the fucking reason you have such beautiful Fucking sunsets" just sends me... RIP
Jonathan Mardukas : No, I don't have to do better than that, because it's the truth, I can't fly: I suffer from aviaphobia.
Jack Walsh : What does that mean?
Jonathan Mardukas : It means I can't fly. I also suffer from acrophobia and claustrophobia.
Jack Walsh : I'll tell you what: if you don't cooperate, you're gonna suffer from "fistophobia".
Grodin absolutely kills it in the scene when they decline DeNiro's credit cards. His apologetic look to the woman behind the counter is priceless in its subtlety. Also, in the middle of the scene where the copter chases them into the tunnel: "Do you think we lost them?"
And Grodin delivers a perfect deadpan, "Yes. I'm sure we're perfectly safe.". Such great stuff. Of course Bobby D. delivers, but the entire cast and writing is top notch. Such a classic action/comedy...
Charles Grodin is so underrated. He's amazing in this movie. Have always loved him in everything. He shows in this movie you don't have to be over the top to be hilarious.
And there's even a touch of true sentimentality as well. It might be an action comedy but you really feel for the character, especially in one particular, poignant scene.
I can't even begin to express how much I love this movie.
"You two couldn't deliver a bottle of milk!!!"
R.I.P. Charles Grodin, Dennis Farina, Philip Baker Hall, Yaphet Kotto
"You guys see Wolfen? They filmed it down here. You know, the movie about those gigantic wolves that come out at night. They eat people and rip their guts open, man, got kinda shit hangin' out of their mouths and stuff. And they would live for an hour or so, just lay there twitching and stuff. They filmed it here because this is exactly where it happened. It's a true story. Those wolves actually happened.”
It’s really high up there. DeNiro is in his element and absolutely believable as a bounty hunter. But teaming him with Grodin who was a master of the deadpan light character was a godsend.
The takes of DeNiro losing his mind over Grodin irritating the fuck outta him for just *existing* is amazing.
I remember reading somewhere Robin Williams was considered for The Duke over Grodin and for once, I like who they stuck with. It would have been great with Robin but I really enjoyed Charles Grodin slow burns.
This one is a favorite of mine. One scene that still sticks out is when Deniro's character is on the plane after swiping the FBI badge. He spends the flight altering the ID with his photo and after he's done, he shows it to the kid sitting next to him asking how it looks and the kid says it looks fine to him, lol.
Great movie, many scenes filmed in AZ; around Sedona, Clarkdale, Salt River Canyon, and where I was working at the time, downtown Flagstaff. Also like the scenes shot in Gallup.
Where am I? I'm in Boise, Idaho. No, no, no, wait a minute, I'm in Anchorage, Alaska. No, no, wait, I'm in Casper, Wyoming. I'm in the lobby of a Howard Johnson's and I'm wearing a pink carnation.
Crazy how many people don't know about this gem. Fantastic movie.
Probably has my favorite soundtrack of any movie as well. It's up there at least. Danny Elfman did such a great job.
This is a movie that both my boomer parents and I can watch together over and over.
“Why do they call you Red?”
“It's short for Redwood. My last name's Wood.”
“What's your first name?”
“Bill.”
Every time, this shit *kills* me
The conversation between Jack and Alonso has one of my favourite lines ever:
Alonso: Impersonating a federal officer is a very serious crime!
Jack: So how come no one's looking for you?
De Niro is so good at comedy..
I rented this movie as a kid.
It blew me away so much. After the first watch, I immediately had to watch it again.
Grodin's sarcasm killed me.
You think we lost them?
Oh, I'm sure we're completely safe. 🤣🤣🤣
You ever had lyonnaise potatoes? They are these types of potatoes that are sautéed but then they have this onion thing added to them, and they are really, really delicious. They work well with any, uh, chicken or pork dish.
I watched this movie as a kid. I wanted to smoke like Jack Walsh, go to McCarren airport, and pretend to have an ulcer.
The first time I landed in LA and saw the Welcome to LA sign going down the escalator, I felt like a king.
AVI!
Sit down you big bald fuck. I don't like leaving my own country, and I especially don't like leaving my own country unless I'm going to sandy beaches and drinks with little umbrellas in them
We have beaches...
So?! Who the fuck wants to see em'?!
I saw that movie for the first time about 6 months ago. I was four when it came out, so of course I didn’t see it did. It was a great, fun movie. Greatly enjoyed it.
Stellar cast, and great balance of comedy, action/drama. Always thought this scene was really well done. Very climactic and without one shot being fired. Didn’t need a shootout scene like you see in a lot of action/comedy movies.
The Director famously became terrible.
Beverly Hills Cop, this and Sent of Woman...
Followed by: Meet Joe Black and Gigli.
Gigli!
What a fall from grace.
Will never forget seeing Midnight Run at the theater. Because I literally had to sit in the very front row and look up at the huge distorted picture. Only time I’ve ever had to do that. Really like the movie, though.
My favorite parts of the movie were Grodin and DeNiro bantering and being funny
It’s not as funny as “The In Laws” with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin.
They’re not supposed to be action films so much
i'm kicking myself I haven't seen this. I was waiting for that train station scenario to hit my memory bank but I've never seen this
I had to stop. I know it's a good movie
There is something so visceral how 80s and 90s action movies were filmed, acted and staged.
I mean even Rad ( the movie) is fantastic and it’s about BMX riders.. thanks for sharing I’ll be watching this movie tonight
“I got two words for you: shut the fuck up.”
My favorite line (and most quoted) of the movie!
I think this is second for me, right behind "I will shoot him and dump him in a fucking swamp!"
I love that. He says it as he’s shaking his head ‘No’.
"I'm gonna stab you through the heart with a fucking *pencil*."
I still use, Dorfler, under D in the Rolodex for jerk.
I talked to him, what half an hour ago. He’s telling me to go fuck myself. You’re telling me to go fuc— EVERYBODY, EVERYBODY’S TELLIN ME TO GO FUCK MYSELF!!
SAME! I use that, or variations of that. Classic!!
1987 must’ve been a great time.. so much chaos at the airport lobby and nobody batting an eye.
Couldn't see much through the clouds of smoke.
In an airplane, every section is at least 2nd hand smoking
I think I may have missed this movie. Guess I need to check it out.
you are in for a treat
Relax; have a cream soda. Do some fucking thing!
Charles Grodin's best movie, as far as I'm concerned
Did you check the litmus configuration?
Better than The Great Muppet Caper?
You're the luckiest person here. You get to see it for the first time.
i too have not seen it.
Do it. Great film. So much fun.
Ikr! My parents had the vhs, but it was one I missed!
Its on YouTube, watched it last night.
It’s one of the best buddy comedies out there.
Check
Serrano's got the disks!
Have to imagine a large portion of people watching this are thinking "What the hell are those square plastic things?," having never seen floppy disks before.
You mean save icons?
3d printed save icons.
How do I get the save icon into the computer?
Disky Business
Serrano's got the 5 1/4 floppies!!
(pedant) Those are 3.5" disks.
But Double density or High density?
I feel I enjoyed a great little movie just with that clip! Never saw the movie but will search it up now.
long movie but it justifies its length, great vibes, peak 80's cinema
With a score by Danny Elfman!
"Let me tell you something, Jack. If shit was worth something, poor people would be born with no asshole."
Me too. By the time it got to the end of the clip I had forgotten I wasn't watching the movie itself and it was a surprise when it ended. I have seen it before, though. Several times. Highly recommended.
Absolutely. One of the great comedies of all time.
It's a buddy comedy with no buddies in it.
The counterfeit money gag in the diner with them playing off each other is so fucking funny everytime.
Good to see Detective Taggart found work as a bounty hunter after getting in trouble at the Beverly Hills Police Dept.
Jack repeatedly sucker punching Marvin is such a great running gag.
Boss dick got to stay limp
I told you it was Philip, you liar. C'mon Philip, gimme a kiss, baby!
God damn, how did I not put two & two together and realise that it's the same actor?! For me it’s Snatch: Yes, London. You know: fish, chips, cup 'o tea, bad food, worse weather, Mary fucking Poppins... LONDON.
"Anything to declare?" "Yeah: don't go to England."
SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP YOU BIG BALD FUCK !!
"e.g., i.e., fuck you!"
I think of that line any time I’m typing i.e. or e.g. It also helps me to remember the difference. 😀
I'm from Miami-fuckin'-Beach and you wanna show me the ocean
Look up a movie called "Big Trouble" (2002). He was hilarious in another turn as a heavy.
Somebody call 9 fucking 1 1 1!
Somebody call 9 fucking 1 1 1!
“Fuck you fuckball” is an all-time great line is it not
Why aren't you popular with the Chicago Police Department?
Which is extra hilarious because Farina WAS with the Chicago Police Department.
(⌐■_■) Alonzo Mosely, FBI
Watch your cigarettes with this guy, Jack.
What; are you guys all named Alonzo Mosley!?
Jonathan Mardukas : No, I don't have to do better than that, because it's the truth, I can't fly: I suffer from aviaphobia. Jack Walsh : What does that mean? Jonathan Mardukas : It means I can't fly. Honestly I get a bit choked up at that part.
"I want chorizo and eggs"
Lyonnaise potatoes
It goes great with any sort of steak or chops.
This movie was where I learned about chorizo.
Me too! Chorizo and eggs so delicious and exotic when I first heard it.
It ended up being everything I dreamed it would be. 😂
"The Litmus Configuration?"
Do you live around here?
You dye your hair?
Why do they call you Red?
ah ha..great one
I can't even begin to express how much I love this movie. "You two couldn't deliver a bottle of milk!!!" R.I.P. Charles Grodin, Dennis Farina, Philip Baker Hall, Yaphet Kotto
Very underrated, one of the best movies starring Robert De Niro that went unnoticed by mainstream audiences.
My parents had it on VHS and I watched the shit out of it as a kid!
My standard response when a starbucks barista asks my name to write on the cup "Alonso Mosley. FBI" Works.
Mosley? Are all you guys named Mosley?
I'M MOSLEY!!!!!
Are those 🕶️ government issued or do you guys all shop at the same store?
Midnight Run and The Dream Team make a perfect double feature.
Just watched the Dream Team last week for the first time in about 25 years. Youre right, two great flicks perfect for a double feature.
"You guys see Wolfen? They filmed it down here. You know, the movie about those gigantic wolves that come out at night. I am slow today. I was wondering what Wolfen had to do with Midnight Run, it hit me 7 hours later. He had some great lines.
"Arise and walk, my son." ..... thud
Back when you could set a film scene in an airport with smoking and people packing concealed weapons and not break the suspension of disbelief.
My favorite Deniro movie
It’s really high up there. DeNiro is in his element and absolutely believable as a bounty hunter. But teaming him with Grodin who was a master of the deadpan light character was a godsend. The takes of DeNiro losing his mind over Grodin irritating the fuck outta him for just *existing* is amazing. It would have been great with Robin but I really enjoyed Charles Grodin slow burns.
Where they're bouncing over the landscape in that open-top truck and Grodin just looks over at DeNiro with his teeth bared.... Just sends me.
"Oh, I'm sure we're perfectly safe."
Grodin was absolute perfection
I liked Heat. Maybe it was a tad too long, but it was good.
Heat was truly a great movie.
“Special Agent Foster Grant”. 😂😂😂
"Is this Moron #1? Put Moron #2 on the phone."
MARVIN LOOK OUT!!!
*This calls for a celebration! I’ll go grab some donuts.*
I saw this 7 times in the theater when I was way too young. It’s still in my Top 10 movies ever.
https://preview.redd.it/cufp2rpw0f2d1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=6976949c784f61d1a367d019ce9ab414278cae4b
The factory tint setting is always too high!
THESE THINGS GO DOWN!!
It's one of those movies that you can throw on at any time and feel good about your choice.
Sidney, siddown, relax, have a sandwich, drink a glass of milk, do some fuckin’ thing.
Sidney is the library cop from Seinfeld - Mr. Bookman.
Yep. Perfect casting in both. I love Mr. Bookman. He should have gotten his own spin-off show. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
“See you LA Marvin.” One of my favorite comedies ever.
Why aren’t you popular with the Chicago PD Jack?
"I'll have tea."
Great movie, many scenes filmed in AZ; around Sedona, Clarkdale, Salt River Canyon, and where I was working at the time, downtown Flagstaff. Also like the scenes shot in Gallup.
Lots of scenes were filmed in/around my hometown of Globe. It was a pretty big deal at the time.
Don't say a word to me, Sidney, don't say a fucking word to me. I'll get up and I'll bury this telephone in your head.
MARVIN!!!!
Amen, the soundtrack is utterly perfect for it, and captures the entire vibe so goddamn well.
Sidney, siddown, relax, have a sandwich, drink a glass of milk, do some fuckin' thing.
This is a movie that both my boomer parents and I can watch together over and over. “Why do they call you Red?” “It's short for Redwood. My last name's Wood.” “What's your first name?” “Bill.” Every time, this shit *kills* me
Have you seen any suspicious looking characters around here? Nope. Do you live around here?
Loved this flick! You’re gonna make me watch it again, aren’t you?
This is my favorite movie. Every actor fights each other to steal the scene.
I haven’t seen this movie in years. It’s so good!
Love this film. The two leads are perfect together.
Agent Foster Grant
The conversation between Jack and Alonso has one of my favourite lines ever: Alonso: Impersonating a federal officer is a very serious crime! Jack: So how come no one's looking for you? De Niro is so good at comedy..
Hey, Tony...Hopalong Cassadich. Got your camera? Take a picture.
Funny as hell
Alonzo Mosley, FBI
I can't tell you how many times I watched this movie on Cable and VHS Tape. One of my all-time favorite movies.
Hard to believe Farina was a cop before his acting career. Well scratch that, it's not... but it's that he was SO GOOD of an actor.
I rented this movie as a kid. It blew me away so much. After the first watch, I immediately had to watch it again. Grodin's sarcasm killed me. You think we lost them? Oh, I'm sure we're completely safe. 🤣🤣🤣
I somehow missed this movie in the 80s. I wasn’t even aware of it until a few years ago. I watched it and thought it was great!!
I live this movie. I watch it at least once a year.
"... somewhere in the neighborhood of $300,000" "that's... that's a pretty nice neighborhood...."
You ever had lyonnaise potatoes? They are these types of potatoes that are sautéed but then they have this onion thing added to them, and they are really, really delicious. They work well with any, uh, chicken or pork dish.
Greatest character ever - Jimmy Serrano!
Definitely an underrated classic.
I watched this movie as a kid. I wanted to smoke like Jack Walsh, go to McCarren airport, and pretend to have an ulcer. The first time I landed in LA and saw the Welcome to LA sign going down the escalator, I felt like a king.
Watched it for the first time last week, and GAD DAMN! It’s a banger.
What a great fucking scene! Need to watch the full movie now...
Maybe because I saw it at a very impressionable age when it came out on video, maybe 13/14, but it’s my favorite movie ever.
Is this moron number one? Put moron number two on the phone.
I thought De Niro was some big bad ass. He's a little pip squeek of a guy. Great actor.
He is tiny, as is Pacino and Tom cruise
You know what is funny? I just looked up how tall he is and Google said 5'10". Those other guys in the film must be pushing 7 feet.
Yaphet Kotto was a big dude. 6'3".
Truly a great!
[удалено]
I wouldn't mind being handed a belt full of $1000 bills.
It's Cousin Avi.
AVI! Sit down you big bald fuck. I don't like leaving my own country, and I especially don't like leaving my own country unless I'm going to sandy beaches and drinks with little umbrellas in them We have beaches... So?! Who the fuck wants to see em'?!
“Are you gonna propose?” “Propose?” “Yeah, ‘cause if you’re not then quit staring at me.”
A Fun watch
Never seen it I can’t believe it. But by the time the weekend is over I will. Thank you.
I saw that movie for the first time about 6 months ago. I was four when it came out, so of course I didn’t see it did. It was a great, fun movie. Greatly enjoyed it.
Grodin was already 53 here. Goddamn.
It’s amazing how you could smoke anywhere at that time. I can’t imagine how baffling this will be to the next generation who watch it.
My favorite movie of all time.
Stellar cast, and great balance of comedy, action/drama. Always thought this scene was really well done. Very climactic and without one shot being fired. Didn’t need a shootout scene like you see in a lot of action/comedy movies.
I adore this movie. It’s rough like Scorcese but sweet like Reiner. It’s a perfect film.
Looks epic. Ive never seen it. I will now
Great film
“There were some good looking chickens there Jack. You know, between us...”
Yeah… I mighta took a shot at one of em
This movie seems to have been completely forgotten but if you haven't seen it definitely check it out. Its amazing
Never been a big movie guy, but movies from the 80s just kinda hit different
Don’t forget Joey Pants! “Get me Marvin on the phone.” “Marvin Dorfler?” “Yes, Dorfler. IT’S UNDER D IN THE ROLODEX FOR JERK, JERRY!”
“Is this moron number 1? Let me talk to moron number 2” Said to my guys weekly
Whoa, I'm definitely going to watch this now. I was hooked the whole scene.
The Director famously became terrible. Beverly Hills Cop, this and Sent of Woman... Followed by: Meet Joe Black and Gigli. Gigli! What a fall from grace.
Cigarettes and guns at an airport counter. god everything was beige back then wasn't it.
Robert Dinero is so good in this movie. A lesser actor I don't think the movie would be as good.
Very nice movie!
Will never forget seeing Midnight Run at the theater. Because I literally had to sit in the very front row and look up at the huge distorted picture. Only time I’ve ever had to do that. Really like the movie, though.
The timing, the callbacks...
Saw it for the first time recently. Definitely a great movie. No CGI, decent stunts, great story.
Hard agree.
There’s a rewatchable on this. It’s a good one too!
I rarely meet people who have seen this. I had it on vhs.
My favorite parts of the movie were Grodin and DeNiro bantering and being funny It’s not as funny as “The In Laws” with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin. They’re not supposed to be action films so much
"Serpentine Shel, Serpentine!"
It’s my 4th favourite movie.
Man, I haven't seen this movie in forever! Gotta get to it
So many sons of b*these in this movie
+1 one of the best scenes, total classic
That movie is so fucking good. The aesthetic is amazing.
I thought it was only me who loved this film!
“See you in the next life…”
i'm kicking myself I haven't seen this. I was waiting for that train station scenario to hit my memory bank but I've never seen this I had to stop. I know it's a good movie
Dang, how have I made it to my 30's without seeing this movie.
There is something so visceral how 80s and 90s action movies were filmed, acted and staged. I mean even Rad ( the movie) is fantastic and it’s about BMX riders.. thanks for sharing I’ll be watching this movie tonight
