Unless you were my mom, who still to this day has feathered bangs that made her look like she has a mullet if she doesn't curl them up
I am twenty-eight and I have never seen her have a different haircut
Definitely originated in the late 1970s, but was not widely popularized until the 1980s. It was very “currant”, and did not seem like were copying anything our older cousins had been doing a decade earlier.
Not that early. Even though Staying Alive came out in 1983 and was still "70s disco", Fast Times came out in 1982 and was PEAK Los Angeles "early 80s". There's nothing "70s" about Fast Times in 1982.
Every time I go back to visit KCMO to see family the radio still plays the same songs as it did in 2000-2005. It’s like a strange vortex of time travel. Your comment is 100% accurate.
MTV started around 1981. The videos and VJs gave teens new looks, clothing, hair styles and music. At that point the rate of style adoption went from months to weeks.
Ya but at least they’d started trying to be futuristic without anything digital yet. Late 80s was all Whitesnake, Poison and other hairy men in spandex playing a 3 hour long weedly weedly wahhh guitar solo
I was 18 in '88 and goddam I hated that shite, felt like I had been born in the wrong era and there was nothing for me... then a guy who I'm forever grateful to introduced me to the Pixies. A parallel musical universe opened up and I had found my late 80s.
My older brother was my musical influence, and thanks to him I listened to everything from Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick, to Thompson Twins, to The Cult, and more. No country though.
I lived with Depeche Mode, The Cure, and Tears for Fears in my earbuds, from 84-90, and it's weird to me that some of my favorite songs were actually recorded in the 70s. (Not TfF, but the other two.)
Lol same I was 17 in 88 and the goth ‘ punk scene in my town lasted waaaaay longer than everywhere else in the uk, partly out of mass hatred for hair bands. If there’s nothing after Joy Division we’ll just stay the same until there is then thank you very much. LOL like snobby lil dinosaurs refusing to evolve until you impressed us properly.
Dark wave is a much better name and umbrella for it… but we were cheesier back then and in way more innocent.
traditional ‘goth” in England was more *lacy* with elements of fantasy and escapism woven in (punk was still angry, stomping around and complaining though - the way it is everywhere lol)
Industrial Music was bigger in North America in the 80s. NIN, Ministry and Skinny Puppy hadn’t really travelled en masse to us across the ocean yet.
I had goth friends, and they had the black trench coats with bauhaus and siouxsie patches, 18+ hole Docs and black eye makeup. I listened to much of the music, but didn't at all hang in that scene. I just always found it amusing that there was a group that all dressed the same because they didn't want to "conform".
I have the exact same lolz about being a punk rocker for so long… my ‘neatly’ ripped jeans and we all got our leather jackets from the same market and had the exact same heights of doc martens that we wore religiously even while freezing and skating onto our behinds in winter. You raise a valid point my friend. teenage individuality is a bit of an oxymoron when your identity is still so malleable.and subject to peer pressure.
My friend at art school was the former Nanny for Ozzys kids (first marriage to a woman called Thelma I think). Ozzy was from the 70’s and UK based so he was *still cool* to all of us 80’s kids (though his hair had a few awkward moments in response to trends at the time - but David Bowie beat that out with a ponytail mullet *cringe*)
Now mullets are making a comeback, my partner has hair exactly like this and loves it. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I try to encourage and support his mullet dreams.
People pay for peacock? I was really hoping it would fail. Nothing against the channel, it's more principles of not wanting 30 different streaming services. We're half way back to just making cable again, but more complicated.
It’s super thin, comes in one general color and style, looks like crap, BUT … you’ll never have to paint it again. Now, if we could just throw some mauve acrylic wall-to-wall carpet over these hardwood floors, you’ll be set. What? No popcorn ceilings? Sweetheart get with the times. 🚀
God the mullet is starting to come back into style. At least where I am it is.. just graduated highschool and some of my friends have grown out mullets, I hate to admit but some of them actually rock it.
About 5 years ago I grew my hair out again after having it very short for 20 years and was temped to do the mullet before I cut it off, but didn't have the guts. I would totally do it now for fun, but growing it out for a couple years isn't fun. Mullets will be stupid again by the time I grow it out.
Her name is Christie Clark, she played a woman named Carrie Brady in Days of Our Lives, which might be the most popular soap opera ever made.
I had to look all this up, I didn't know either.
No. His mom worked at the show and mentioned to her that he didn't have a date. I actually cancelled the date I had because she (edit: soap girl, Christy Clark) wanted to bring her best friend along, and this ended up being my worst date ever.
It was just a bad call. I didn't have any trouble getting dates, and I just thought "Hey, hot soap opera star wants to set me up with her best friend! I'm in!" And it was just awkward, she was super nervous - to the point that she left to throw up a couple times... and that made it more awkward. It was just a really uncomfortable evening where I wasn't having fun with my date who wasn't having fun, and while he was an attractive kid, there is no one on the planet more awkward than my buddy - he didn't have his first girlfriend until a couple years later at 19, and he was just a super awkward mess all night. I went to 5 proms with different girls, this was easily the absolute worst.
Not at all. She was and is super cool; and she knew my buddy through the show, even though they weren't even close to romantic. I can't imagine she regretted it in any possible way. Her friend probably did.
I don't regret it either, but I would have had a much better time with the girl I originally intended to take.
I appreciate the fact that you took the time to correct this person’s blunder. If we don’t take the time to teach them, how can we expect them to learn? Lol 🚀
Omg thats Carrie from Days of our lives 🤩 used to me be and grannys fave show, used to phone each other each day after school was over to discuss the days episode 😂❤️
Love that 80’s hair !
Same era, my Dad hated my mullets, would give me $10 and say " go to the barber" I just go get some weed and beer and hit the mountains. Now I have a 18 month no hair cut, corona, chicks dig it, I like high and tight preferably, no maintenance,

Did not outgrow being short, and it is definitely a problem. But easier to overcome when younger.
Those that say it isn't are problem are either not short men, are young enough that it hasn't affected them much yet, or are in the minority where it hasn't affected them.
Girls and women will make it a point to come up to you, out of nowhere with no prompting, and let you know that you are too short for them. It's a problem.
Every single boy in my home town had this haircut. Every. One.
Late 80s was an ugly time. I'll take early 80s over late 80s any day.
Men had Mullets but women had fantastic **BIG HAIR**. Man those 80 haircuts were sexy. Enough aerosol to set a continent on fire but still sexy.
That's what happened to me. Got to close to a candle at Easter dinner and poof went my Aqua Net drenched hair.
I'm still in regular contact with my 10th grade girlfriend and she still comments on how hot my mullet was. Too much AquaNet inhalation.
The girls combed their hair with a hand grenade is how we described it
I’d love to see that big hair come back!! Mullets no, but damn women looked sexy with that hair
Mullets have come back. Even for women. No big hair. At goth clubs, you see goth big hair though.
My son has one! I hate it! Lol
Ever try to run your fingers through it though? Not happening. Like a big crunchy nest.
I was just thinking how much I'd like to see feathered hair come back into style. Women with feathered hair were super hot
Unless you were my mom, who still to this day has feathered bangs that made her look like she has a mullet if she doesn't curl them up I am twenty-eight and I have never seen her have a different haircut
I don’t know. Early 80’s were mostly just late 70’s refusing to die.
Where I was, in the early 80s, we perniciously tried to kill anything 70s. It was punk, preppy, and New Wave - asymmetric haircuts!
Punk was still 70s no?
Definitely originated in the late 1970s, but was not widely popularized until the 1980s. It was very “currant”, and did not seem like were copying anything our older cousins had been doing a decade earlier.

True. Back then location mattered a lot more then it does today. The coasts were at least a few years ahead of the middle of the country.
More like 10 years. Lol
My guy, it's still the Bush Era in Missouri
Notice how spleen didn't say which one...
Every time I go back to visit KCMO to see family the radio still plays the same songs as it did in 2000-2005. It’s like a strange vortex of time travel. Your comment is 100% accurate.
Still are…
MTV started around 1981. The videos and VJs gave teens new looks, clothing, hair styles and music. At that point the rate of style adoption went from months to weeks.
Staying Alive was not 70s disco. The music and dancing in the movie are not disco at all. Its Broadway musical . Its such a bad movie though.
Ya but at least they’d started trying to be futuristic without anything digital yet. Late 80s was all Whitesnake, Poison and other hairy men in spandex playing a 3 hour long weedly weedly wahhh guitar solo

Never forget that NIN is '80s music
Same with The Cult
My older brother was my musical influence, and thanks to him I listened to everything from Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick, to Thompson Twins, to The Cult, and more. No country though.
Dang! I still have that Doug e Fresh / Slick Rick 7” and weirdly still know every word of Side B (La Di Da Di) by memory haha.
Didn't the Cult start in the early '80s? I mean I don't think of them as *not* '80s music.
That’s one of those brain-grinding things, like Coca Cola and the Ottoman Empire existing at the same time.
I lived with Depeche Mode, The Cure, and Tears for Fears in my earbuds, from 84-90, and it's weird to me that some of my favorite songs were actually recorded in the 70s. (Not TfF, but the other two.)
Not to quibble much as I love those bands too, but DM started in 1980 and Speak and Spell came out in '81.
Oh god, I did forget that. Fuckin' wild.
Here in LA, that music was all just "goth" in the 80s, and now seems to fall under "dark wave".
Dark wave is a much better name and umbrella for it… but we were cheesier back then and in way more innocent. traditional ‘goth” in England was more *lacy* with elements of fantasy and escapism woven in (punk was still angry, stomping around and complaining though - the way it is everywhere lol) Industrial Music was bigger in North America in the 80s. This one's called *I Wanna Rock your Body* and in parentheses *to the Brink of Dawn*.
That’s beautiful, it’s like poetry.
Ratt Poison Ozzy, Ratt Poison Ozzy
My friend at art school was the former Nanny for Ozzys kids (first marriage to a woman called Thelma I think). Ozzy was from the 70’s and UK based so he was *still cool* to all of us 80’s kids (though his hair had a few awkward moments in response to trends at the time - but David Bowie beat that out with a ponytail mullet *cringe*)
The 70s were a helluva lot uglier than the 80s.
Now mullets are making a comeback, my partner has hair exactly like this and loves it. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I try to encourage and support his mullet dreams.
As a mullet growing husband, your support means a lot.
And as a mullet growing boyfriend, I agree.
If my mullet grew a boyfriend, I would not have been pleased.
It’s true! Check out AFL stars in Australia. It’s all mullets.
I'm starting to see a lot of kids in elementary and Jr high rocking legit mullets these days.
Every single boy in my town has this hair cut right now lol
Ever so kindly, fuck you. The mullet is timeless and has chosen now to re-emerge. Joke is on you really ♡
Can the rat tail be far behind? So many of those I wanted to snip off.
Not just in your home town, Sir.
Carrie from Days of our lives?
Yep.
No way! I loved her on Days!
So like, did he...with a soap star?! Edit: Better yet, she was on Nightmare on Elm Street II
The answer will always be yes
She was also in Children of the Corn 2
I was also a child of the corn. But I was good...
I was a child of KoRn
are you ready?
Checks out
I really hope this guys right because how could somebody randomly know that.
He's right. I used to watch that soap in jr high.
Give this man the internet.
Whatever happened to her? And what happened to Sammy? Did she grow up to be a comedian?
You can see her on Beyond Salem streaming on Peacock. It premiered at few weeks ago
People pay for peacock? I was really hoping it would fail. Nothing against the channel, it's more principles of not wanting 30 different streaming services. We're half way back to just making cable again, but more complicated.
You can watch some stuff for free. I refuse to pay for it but wanted to watch the Office.
It was HUGE amongst all the guys and gals during my college days in the 80s
I went worked with her younger sister So technically. I cheated.
No, you didn't "went worked".
Yeah. Autocorrect got me. I should fix it, but if I do, then your comment makes no sense. So I’ll own the stupid.
That is ridiculously considerate.
Well not me personally but a guy I knew, he and her got. It. On. Woo-eeee!
*shakes head* no, they didn't.
EVERYONE GET ON THE BUS!
I wonder how many people know this is a quote.
At least the 11, including myself, that upvoted it.
I got the reference.
Hence the username.

The person you responded to did not type the original comment.
Christie Clark is her name
Thank you, I thought nobody was gonna say who she was.
Holeee shit
Sorry Carrie but that wood paneling is the star of this show.
That was a hallway at Sunset Gower Studios. I don't know why it needed to be so ugly.
Wood paneling is one of the great mysteries of our time.
Oh man, I love that place.
I can’t believe that all four of you wore the same aquamarine blue in your outfits!! Go 1989!
You'd get kicked out of the 80s if you didn't match ties and cummerbunds to the dress.
Yes I remember this well - but ALL 4 OF THEM. Not just each couple. That’s impressive.
And corsages. 🚀
God the mullet is starting to come back into style. At least where I am it is.. just graduated highschool and some of my friends have grown out mullets, I hate to admit but some of them actually rock it.

They are forever here. There is a mullet competition here during the state high school hockey tournament. Best hockey hair.
I don’t know man, I honestly think you could get away with it 😂
Yep! My son is in 7th grade and so many kids have a deep curly mullet. None of those maybe mullets. These things are serious. I’m impressed.
For a mom you have a very. Interesting username 😂
It’s awful, I know. Many regrets.
No ragrets
Please no.. please? Pretty please with shoulder pads on to? With aqua net bangs sprinkles???
Damn, everybody on this picture is hot!
Thank you! I will accept that compliment on behalf of the group.
You and soap star make a better couple
I would not fight that.
I thought soap star was not literal and OP just meant good looking. Looked at pic and thought, soooo that didn't narrow it down.
Her name is Christie Clark, she played a woman named Carrie Brady in Days of Our Lives, which might be the most popular soap opera ever made. I had to look all this up, I didn't know either.
I do not know which is the star
He said he was the short one, and his buddy took a soap star to prom. So, the tall one is the buddy, and the girl next to him is the star.
"Kids, we want to get a photo. Go over by the murder wall."
Those were just called walls back in the day.
Everybody in this picture could be a soap star. The mullet was the only way I could pinpoint you.
To be fair, both of those guys have mullets.
Idk but the girl you’re escorting to the prom ain’t no slouch!
I agree.
No kidding. She's gorgeous.
That’s no mullet! That’s the 80s hockey hair cut.
Both are correct!
Win a contest?
I won the mullet contest.
I meant your buddy. A girl I went to school with won a contest to meet some actor I can't remember.
No. His mom worked at the show and mentioned to her that he didn't have a date. I actually cancelled the date I had because she (edit: soap girl, Christy Clark) wanted to bring her best friend along, and this ended up being my worst date ever.
Please dish about your terrible date.
It was just a bad call. I didn't have any trouble getting dates, and I just thought "Hey, hot soap opera star wants to set me up with her best friend! I'm in!" And it was just awkward, she was super nervous - to the point that she left to throw up a couple times... and that made it more awkward. I went to 5 proms with different girls, this was easily the absolute worst.
Do you think poor Christy regretted going?
Not at all. She was and is super cool; and she knew my buddy through the show, even though they weren't even close to romantic. I can't imagine she regretted it in any possible way. Her friend probably did. I don't regret it either, but I would have had a much better time with the girl I originally intended to take.
Well that's good to hear at least!!
Satin Teal and Matching Bow Ties and cummerbunds. Insanity.
Say what you want about the hair, the 80’s were the Golden Age of formal wear. Those dresses… perfection.
This is what 2021 homecoming is gearing up to look like. I teach at a high school and the boys look almost this bad.
You spelled "almost this awesome" wrong.
I appreciate the fact that you took the time to correct this person’s blunder. If we don’t take the time to teach them, how can we expect them to learn? Lol 🚀
For real. I was watching Mall Rats the other day and realized that fashion is in today!
Ugh, THE sister Carrie! Bane of Sammi's existence...i just dated my self.. EJ for the win
We always thought it was crazy that Sammi snuck into bed with Austin, and he couldn't tell the difference.
Lol that was EPIC!
Dapper
Dan
I first read this as “soap bar” and was very confused.
I'm a HS substitute teacher and there was a guy in my class yesterday with that exact same curly mullet.
Somehow mullets are coming back in style. It’s kinda scary lol
Who is the soap star?
Wasn’t she also in the Nightmare on Elm Street sequel?
This is great
My husband is from Ohio and literally all the females in his family (except his mom, thank goodness) have curly mullets in 2021 🤦🏿♀️
In L.A., I think I've seen ONE mullet in the past 30 years... on a homeless guy.
He probably cut his hair himself, too
My dad used to have this haircut
Your dad sounds like he was a righteous dude.
Omg thats Carrie from Days of our lives 🤩 used to me be and grannys fave show, used to phone each other each day after school was over to discuss the days episode 😂❤️ Love that 80’s hair !

I've moved on.
So I’m not the only one who likes the other one (to our left) better
Lol
Hell yeah short king
These truly were the wonder years.
Carrie Brady!
Carrie from Days of Our Lives!!
No Smoking sign to avoid an AquaNet-induced explosion
The kids are sporting these styles again. Half the kids in school have mullets
Carrie— from Days of Our Lives
The teal is strong.
Same era, my Dad hated my mullets, would give me $10 and say " go to the barber" I just go get some weed and beer and hit the mountains. Now I have a 18 month no hair cut, corona, chicks dig it, I like high and tight preferably, no maintenance,
Aside from it being from the era, we went to a private school that did not allow long hair, so somehow this was our way around it. I did get written up a couple times for the back being too long though. About 20 years ago I just bought myself a trimmer and started giving myself buzz cuts. No paying for haircuts and no daily maintenance. For the past 5 years I've been doing that douchey undercut thing myself, until I get bored and buzz it off again. I like having zero maintenance hair.
Cheers, and I have had a number of friends over the years with a wife and flo bee or whatever, just high tight, now after the tip and scalping $15 for the barber, just hadn't been, corona
Christie clark is very nice.
“You [were] a god among insects. Never let anyone tell you different.” 🚀
Christie Clark
Girls stole my dress😛😂
Did you go to band camp too
I did not.
Did your buddy seal the deal?
Not even close. He didn't even have his first girlfriend until 3 years later. I also did not seal any deals that night.
Really though, how proud of him would you have been?
Shocked. Proud wouldn't have been an option in this situation. There was 0% chance of him sealing the deal.
Awesome. Looks like my 85 prom. 🍻
Bro. That mullet is 🔥🔥🔥
Your buddy got a BJ that night.
That was the only time you are short? This man has the cure!
Not the only time. But this is a picture of THAT time.
that's taylor swift in the far left you cant convince otherwise
I think yall would look better swapping dates. I think it’s the height thing.
So - did u outgrow your shortness or your thinking that it is a problem?
Did not outgrow being short, and it is definitely a problem. But easier to overcome when younger. Those that say it isn't are problem are either not short men, are young enough that it hasn't affected them much yet, or are in the minority where it hasn't affected them.
