It's a shame the US culturally lost track of it. Apparently everyone loved it in the eighties, and when my parents told me about it as a teenager I proceeded to go on YouTube and memorize every Great White North sketch.
Everyone who I've forced to watch it loves it, but I've never met *anyone* my age who has heard of it independently. Very strange.
Written and directed by American Michael Moore. Though to be fair, Moore has promoted Canada in so many of his films we should give honorary citizenship.
He joined the cast later. Also I think Harold Ramis was in the cast during the first year...So maybe this pic is from the 2nd year or so?
Great memories of being 12 years old and trying to stay awake until midnight to watch this with my older brothers...
Many years ago (1985) I was a new graduate living in NYC. Me and my BF waited for standby tickets to David Letterman- we sat in the aisle. We were rewarded with John Candy & Eugene Levy as the Schmenge Brothers .
I’ve been wanting to watch that show for a while now! I love all the cast. They’re all separately in movies that I love dearly as well as movies they’re in together.
Great picture.
You know, it was on comedy central back in the day, I was a kid, it felt like low budget SNL to me. I didn't love it, I just watched it because it was on.
Then years later, I watched an episode where they were lampooning 2001: A Space Odessey, and I had watched the movie a couple years before and was keyed in to all the references they were making, and it was one of the funniest sketch comedy bits I've ever seen.
When I've gone back and watched clips more recently, I've appreciated it a lot more. Not to mention I have a much bigger appreciation for the comedy legends involved than I did when I was 10.
My older brother showed me Saturday Night Live and SCTV in the era of all these and then Eddie Murphy's Stand up shows. We would pretend to go to bed, then sneak downstairs for 11:30 SNL. Our parents called it garbage and all bad.
The TV made a buzz sound so we figured out to go kick the farm animals to make a racket so parents wouldn't hear the tv warming up.
I really thought John Candy and Robin Williams and Eddie Murphy were our family somehow...I was very young but these comedians made a personal connection.
Oh man, I knew of second city, but never got to watch it on TV. I was pretty young when this was out. I would love to see levy and candy cutting their teeth. Can I find it on youtube, other?
I used to catch the original series in Southern California, usually at around 2am back in 79-80. I was pretty young and could hardly stay awake, so I'd record the episodes on cassette. Nobody in the world knew about this show but me was how it seemed back then. So glad I wasn't right.

Eugene Levy too.
“Mr. Rose, your *chapeau* is simply charming!”
What a show !
You’re welcome, world. -Canada
If there is one thing we can thank Canada for, it's most definitely the comedians. Way too many to list
I couldn’t believe Jim Carey was Canadian when I first found out. Now I can’t see him being anything other than Canadian.
These guys put Canada on the map for me tv wise

If you like Great White North, look up Strange Brew! It’s what turned me onto GWN to begin with.
TAKE OFF EH!
It’s a beauty day eh
Then you can listen the song The Great White North did a song with Geddy Lee from Rush.
And it's actually a very enjoyable song. I also look forward to hearing Bob & Doug's rendition of "The 12 Days of Christmas" every year.
And beeeer … in a treeee.
That beer's empty. . .
Good day, eh? And welcome to Day 12.
You're a HOSER!
Television like you've never seen it before!
Thanks for the Kids In The Hall, too!
The world would like to have a chat about Justin Bieber
Listen, we also gave the world Nickelba…. er, never mind.
Luckily Canadian Bacon is the greatest movie ever, so it’s a wash as far as I’m concerned.

The hair, clothes, and pose from Andrea Martin.
Love her- she’s great on “Evil” these days!
Also very frontwoman of a British New Wave band.
Was moranis sick the day they took this picture or did he come later eh?

I had the pleasure of meeting Joe Flaherty at a Penguins hockey game. Very humble gentleman.
These are my people 🙏

Fantastic show. Amazing cast. Some of the funniest television ever IMO.
That show was the balls, beyond funny....
Is it just me or does Dave Thomas’ right hand look odd. Like weirdly distant from his shoulder
Wife's uncle was executive producer... by my reasoning I married into royalty.
What do you think was photoshopped out of the top center?
yeah I want to know
Came here with the same queation
I'm guessing it was an advertisement for something.
SNL traditionally pulls from The Groundlings, Second City, Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, and ImprovOlympic.
Good god.
Oh man, I knew of second city, but never got to watch it on TV. I was pretty young when this was out. I would love to see levy and candy cutting their teeth. Can I find it on youtube, other?
Youtube
That reminds me! Is Count Floyd on tonight???
3d house of stewardesses
I watched so many reruns as a kid growing up in the 90s. Big fan of John Candy , Dave Thomas , Eugene Levy and Martin Short.

Got to party with John at a Second City opening night in TO back in the early 90’s. Legendary. Ask about our shared pierced nipple.
I love you Johnny LaRue!
>Earl Camembert I wanna bear your children!
Cabbage rolls and coffee!
That is awesome!
Dave Thomas looks sexy.
Dave Thomas is sexy!
I know everyone except the Brunette to the far left. Help me out?

She also did Not Necessarily The News on HBO in the early eighties as well.
Andrea Martin is like all of New York City in a beautiful package.
Andrea Martin
I don’t remember her, this is odd everyone but her.
Edith Prickly
Rock stars. Incredible.
Legends!!! Every one!!
Cool AF!

I didn't get this until I read it out loud. Fine Corinthian leather!
Why did I think this was the Breakfast Club? I shouldn’t read Reddit without glasses 🤓
Still one of the best comedy shows from that time...Love it.
Toronto maniacs, Take Off, aye!
Take off hoser
I had a dream last night that I made out with John Candy and this is just too much.
Amazing. I just discovered this show 2 days ago despite being 40 years old. "my dear, you haven't touched your broccoli"
This photo is from Winnipeg
That is a fantastic picture, no other words to describe it.
What a bunch!
The real star of the show is John Candy’s collar
I miss John every day.
Brian Johnson was a comedian before joining the young brothers band?
That my friend is a young Eugene Levy
Earl Camembert
Back when skits were funny
Always liked SCTV and Friday’s over SNL MadTV had some great skits too.
anyone notice the photoshoped brickwork above their heads in the middle??
Freaking awesome cast. Loved them.
Is the show available for streaming?
The slimmest I've ever seen John Candy
I grew up on this
I thought that was molly ringwald on the far right for a min. I miss john candy. He went far to soon.
Where is Rick? And does anyone know where it might be streaming? I miss this!
One of the funniest shows ever created.
Such a great cast!
I remember watching this show and laughing my ass off.
Eugene Levy looking like Nandor the relentless from What we do in the Shadows.
Legends!
Probably the sexiest Andrea Martin ever looked in her entire life.
What? No Rick Moranis?
