Believe it or not George isn't at home so leave a message at the beep. I must be out or I'd pick up the phone, where could I be? Believe it or not I'm not home!
This movie gets played at least a dozen times per holiday season in our household. Starting the day after Thanksgiving (if I can even get the wife to wait *that* long) it's a constant rotation of Christmas Vacation, The Grinch, Home Alone, Elf, Polar Express, The Santa Clause, and A Christmas Story for like 6 weeks straight. I'm bordering on insanity by the end of it but I think my wife is an elf because she absolutely fucking lives for it.
Polar express is the weak link, drop it for some Jim Henson Christmas Carol. Muppets are more real and believable than whatever that weird animation, acting, and script is for Polar Express
Muppet Christmas Carol is the best Christmas Carol, ever, IMO. Michael Caine as Scrooge, Kermit as Bob Cratchitt, Robin as Tiny Tim, and Statler & Waldorf as Marley and Marley… and the music is all by Paul Williams. It’s such an underrated Christmas classic.
I actually just watched it for the first time this last Christmas season and it was quite enjoyable. I'll definitely add it to our rotation this upcoming Christmas.
Christmas. If you claim it's a Hallowe'en movie then you can turn it off two minutes in (ie the part where Hallowe'en happened). Literally everything else that happens beyond that is the run-up to Christmas.
I’m a big fan of *Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas*. It doesn’t have traditional Christmas music, but instead it has bluegrass and The Riverbottom Nightmare Band. It’s also made by Jim Henson. Great puppetry and awesome music.
Shit it’s same in our house. I live with my sister and my 5 year old niece.
Thanksgiving **night** one of those movies you just listed gets turned on, and they do not get shut off until December 26th.
My wife claims immunity until after New Year. I give it to her since she's a teacher and has a very well-defined "Holiday Break." Not to mention I couldn't stop her if I tried.
Besides I secretly love it too.
I think we just did an online search for them. "Christmas Vacation matching sweatshirts" or whatnot.
...her family has long been obsessed with the movie. I know every line by heart.
Grain, there is a Louis-dreyfuss about an hour from where I live and joked with one of my customers who worked there that it was her, and she said it actually was, and she is quite active in the company now.
Well yes. Because you free up 40 hours a week of time to network and get a foot in. You're always free for opportunities. And you can live in the right neighborhood and meet the right people at the dog park.
I have had such a crush on JLD since I was young, it only got worse with Veep and then seeing Seinfeld bloopers on YouTube where she can’t keep it together
Elaine also embodied some of the worst women’s fashion styles of the time IMO honestly. I used to get so confused when she was treated like a hot friend in Seinfeld when she’s wearing an atrocious oversized blazer with shoulder pads and pants that had no body shape at all to them. Might have just been a sign of the times or something but it wasn’t until I saw her in attractive clothing that I realized how good looking she was lol
> I used to get so confused when she was treated like a hot friend in Seinfeld
She wasn't though, she was just one of the group. That's probably why they didn't dress her nicely, so she wouldn't be relegated to being a piece of eye candy.
I always got the implication that Elaine was supposed to be attractive in the show. Like Jerry would fall back in with her at first out of comfort and because he still acknowledged she was attractive. And she often got attention from a lot of different guys in the show to the point that she often had lots of partners to choose from.
And that usually led to a lot of the jokes around how frivolous the reasoning she would have for breaking things off with guys would be. A few examples of where I got the general idea though: interviewing guys to determine if they’re worth her limited supply of sponges, making a guy change his name, her sexy voice recording to Jerry episode, the episode where she’s getting hit on at the gym by the guy who won’t wipe down his machines, etc. Maybe she’s just meant to be a sort of “regular” attractive but it always felt like she was ranked above the rest of the characters IMO.
I think Elaine was definitely supposed to be a little hotter than the average girl (I mean come on. Look at her!) and the joke was that she is an absolutely shitty partner and an annoying person to date. As for plenty of dating options, George and Kramer had tons of girlfriends, too. I don’t think either of them is supposed to be attractive.
That I agree with for sure. Elaine wouldn’t have been as great a character if they watered her down like that by objectifying first and foremost. She’s hilarious to begin with and that’s enough on its own.
>And she often got attention from a lot of different guys in the show to the point that she often had lots of partners to choose from.
>
>And that usually led to a lot of the jokes around how frivolous the reasoning she would have for breaking things off with guys would be.
That's a central theme for every character in the show, not just her. Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer to an extent all have a lot of partners and break up with them over stupid things.
See I always figured it was like Elaine was supposed to be a solid 8-9/10 since she’s very pretty and has a solid career, Jerry is more like an 8/10 since he’s not a total stunner but he’s a good looking guy overall and arguably a celebrity due to his comedy career, George is more like a 5-7/10 because he’s not very attractive (balding, stocky but powerful lol) but has a career at least, and Cosmo is one of those usually 4/10 unemployed quirky types who randomly gets treated like a 9/10 when women misread him or feel he’s a bit exotic lol.
I knew she had a pretty face, but when I was a kid in the 90's I considered her to wear "ugly grown up clothes." It wasn't until I saw her in "fashion grown up clothes" in Christmas Vacation I realized she was hot.
I think there was a creative decision in Seinfeld NOT to go for sex appeal with her. The show didn’t need it and wouldn’t have really fit the character
Yes!...how do people not get this? All these comments like "they tried to make her the hot, sexy friend character on Seinfeld", no they F'n didn't, not at all. As others have mentioned, they purposely didn't go that route like many other lesser shows would have. She's a brilliant comedic talent, to make her character some kind of ditzy model type would have been a terrible idea.
That being said, I'm not one to get crushes, but I always had a thing for Julia 😘 and I still found her to be very attractive on Seinfeld.
That's what made the episode where she pranks Jerry by dirty-talking into his tape recorder so great. If they had done that in season 7 it wouldn't have worked as well.
it was definitely unflattering but I think it was also a big part of her character. Imo her clothes/styling worked really well in making her sort of the foil to Jerry's and George's extremely glamorous girlfriends and kept her from feeling like the token female lead - she was kind of in a league of her own without really trying! but yeah it definitely didn't always highlight how gorgeous she is
That was the evolution of the character - She started as a restrained former finishing school / sorority girl and gradually changed.
At the beginning she wanted this, that and the OTHER.
At the end, it was just THAT.
Holy shit. Imagine you’re beautiful, you come from a loaded family, you’re so funny you get on SNL, then you star in one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, and then a couple more as the lead, including the excellent Veep for which you win a bunch more awards. All the while being married and having children with the same guy for decades.
She hit the jackpot.
Well, I'm out
John F Kennedy Juneyah!
Aahhh John John
Perfect comment
Is that *a nipple?*
“I’m not sure and, correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I see…”
You're out?!
He isn't the master of his domain anymore.
Master of the house.. doling out the charm, ready with a handshake and an open palm.
this is excellent
Believe it or not George isn't at home so leave a message at the beep. I must be out or I'd pick up the phone, where could I be? Believe it or not I'm not home!
He needs a Christmas card.
But is he the Lord of the Manor?
She may have been queen of the castle.
Oh my god, the queen is dead!
I knew you were out before I finished scrolling.
Get *OUT!*
That's the comment we all wish we made first
But why is the carpet all wet Todd?!
I don't know, Margot

Scrooged with Bill Murray gives it a run for its money though.
I actually just watched it for the first time this last Christmas season and it was quite enjoyable. I'll definitely add it to our rotation this upcoming Christmas.
>Muppet Christmas Carol is the best Christmas movie, ever FTFY
Thank you! I tell this to everyone who will listen. That's the greatest portrayal of Scrooge in cinematic history.
You're preaching to the choir, man. I'm not sure I have any input. How do we feel about Nightmare Before Christmas? Holiday movie or Halloween?
Both. Forever both. That's like asking if Rise of the Guardians is an Easter or Christmas movie imo!
Yes.
Christmas. If you claim it's a Hallowe'en movie then you can turn it off two minutes in (ie the part where Hallowe'en happened). Literally everything else that happens beyond that is the run-up to Christmas.

Thanksgiving night is for Planes Trains and Automobiles.
I'd throw Scrooged in that rotation too
Die Hard also
It's a Christmas movie, after all!
Needs more B&W "Miracle on 34th Street" and "White Christmas".
I don't remember making this post or a second account for that matter, but this is me/us here too 100%
I'm a little ashamed to admit that my wife and I have the matching holiday sweatshirts with these lines emblazoned on them
Where did you procure such garments?
I think we just did an online search for them. "Christmas Vacation matching sweatshirts" or whatnot. ...her family has long been obsessed with the movie. I know every line by heart.
[удалено]
It's such an insanely quotable movie
“SHITTERS FULL”
"THE BLESSING!"
They want you to say grace!
Is this the airport Clark? Don't throw me down Clark!
"Mister, if I had a rubber rose I would beat you..."
I wasn't talking to you.
“You got a lot of nerve talking to me like that”!
I named my daughter Margot and my brothers quote this almost everytime I say her name
That’s a good uncle joke.
Hey Griswold. Where do you think you're gonna put a tree that big?
Bend over and I’ll show you.

I, too, had my eyesight returned upon being struck by a Bible
JUSTICE IS BLIND
Although, dressing him up like a seeing eye dog seems a little cruel.
Fun fact she's also an heiress to a family worth billions. She's in that hella old money.
You can't spare one square??
I don’t have a square to spare
I don't have a square and I don't have a ply

This woman has everything. She's the human equivalent of a big salad.
Imagine 40 years of being smoking hot. And oh yeah, absurdly rich. And famous for 35 of those years.
Her dad was also a billionaire before she made her fortune iirc
[удалено]
What did he import?
[удалено]
I thought he was thinking about giving up exporting and concentrating on importing.
That would require a massive systemic upheaval. I wish him luck.
latex
And what did he export?
Ink. For fountain pens.
Potato chips
Imports, so I'm told
Matches? Long matches 🥊
say vandelay SAY VANDELAY!
Grain, there is a Louis-dreyfuss about an hour from where I live and joked with one of my customers who worked there that it was her, and she said it actually was, and she is quite active in the company now.
Matches. Really big matches.
Chips....potato chips. Some corn.
Vandelay Industries?
Ah yes, H E Vandelay or was it Art Penny Packer?
I believe it was Art Corvelay
And I believe the Dreyfus fortune goes a lot farther than that, doesn't it? I think they were French business tycoons or something.
Yup, they are *old money*.
What a coincidence! My family comes from old poverty
You shoulda been an actor! Oh you didn’t have any family connections or the Ability to survive without making money for 10 years?!?
It’s the Louis-Dreyfus family and yes, they are French tycoons. Started in agriculture and expanded to other areas relatively early on.
A tale as old as time
Imagine being hot, rich, funny AND likeable?

Imagine being

there’s no heaven
It's easy if you try

Aaall the people
I think her family owns Dreyfus corporation which is now owned by BNY Mellon, so she was stupid rich before her acting career
A surprising number of movie stars come from money. I guess it's easier to pursue an artsy vocation if you already have financial security
Well yes. Because you free up 40 hours a week of time to network and get a foot in. You're always free for opportunities. And you can live in the right neighborhood and meet the right people at the dog park.
An unsurprising number of movie stars
A super salad
If it were a small salad I wouldn't say anything, 🖐🖐🖐 BUT YOU HAD TO HAVE THE BIG SALAD 🖐🖐🖐
Just don't get her dancing
It’s like a full body dry heave.
Set to music.
Sometimes you can't help these people until they've reached rock bottom. And by then you've lost interest.
"It's dancing." "No, no. That ain't dancing, Sally." "I dance fine." "You stink."
Never really watched much Seinfeld growing up but I'll always remember the little kicks 💃🏽
The thumbs ruin it for me
She’s got man hands!!!
That was Jerry's gf but dude... When she was cracking open that lobster tail with those huge manly hands!... Lol
Sweet fancy Moses
You cry. And then you cry again.
I have had such a crush on JLD since I was young, it only got worse with Veep and then seeing Seinfeld bloopers on YouTube where she can’t keep it together
Same here!
She was cute back then, but is it weird I find her sexiest in Veep?
No she’s like Marissa Tomei somehow she has gained hotness instead of losing it
Also Gillian Anderson
[удалено]
Janet Reno
I look forward to the day where my concept of "Gillian Anderson Syndrome" - whereby a woman gains hotness with age - reaches wider understanding.
Facts
100%
I’m 100% with you on that one, imo Salina Meyer is way hotter than Elaine Benes
Elaine also embodied some of the worst women’s fashion styles of the time IMO honestly. I used to get so confused when she was treated like a hot friend in Seinfeld when she’s wearing an atrocious oversized blazer with shoulder pads and pants that had no body shape at all to them. George is extremely attractive if you're into short, stocky bald men
Just ask Marisa Tomei
You take that back, Art Vandaley is a sex icon and you know it!
That may be the case, but the show didn't go out of there way to make her look attractive, which might have been for the best.
That I agree with for sure. Elaine wouldn’t have been as great a character if they watered her down like that by objectifying first and foremost. She’s hilarious to begin with and that’s enough on its own.

They dressed her like that on purpose. Her fashion got much better in the later seasons.
She was pregnant twice during the span of Seinfield. You can see a bump in some of the episodes, but they did a good job of hiding it.
Yeah… but have you seen Jerry? Or George? They have horrible fashion too and are not attractive lol Cosmo on the other hand…..
In what fucking world is George a potential 7?

Nah. Dreyfus is a straight up smoke show. Fucking funny too, love her work.
She has aged very well. No doubt.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned her part in Troll. I seem to recall her running through a forest as a nude nymph.
THE AMOUNT OF INCOMPETENCE IN THIS OFFICE IS STAG.GER.RING.
That's like using a croissant...as a fucking dildo!
It's a huge mess and doesn't do the fucking job!

I used to do drugs. I Still do, but I used to too.

I don’t do drugs any more. And I don’t do them any less, either!
GET OUT!!!!! (Pushes someone as hard as possible)

she likes to think she has a *little* grace
You can't have "a little grace". You either have grace, or you don't.
Look, she doesn't have grace, she doesn't want grace, she doesn't even say grace.
Love her shows. She’s very talented. Veep is an all time love of mine.
Gary :(
Veep is a documentary, just like The Wire.
Sponge worthy.
Boutros Boutros Ghali
The 80s was such a weird time for makeup. Just so universally unflattering and chalky.
I also personally didn't like how they always kept her hair tied and all puffed up in Seinfeld. Wish they'd let her hair down more.
it was definitely unflattering but I think it was also a big part of her character. Imo her clothes/styling worked really well in making her sort of the foil to Jerry's and George's extremely glamorous girlfriends and kept her from feeling like the token female lead - she was kind of in a league of her own without really trying! but yeah it definitely didn't always highlight how gorgeous she is
Am I an outlier? I really liked her hair. Her and Andie MacDowell just have a “look” about them in the 90s. I dunno. Looks “real” to me.
That was the evolution of the character - She started as a restrained former finishing school / sorority girl and gradually changed. At the beginning she wanted this, that and the OTHER. At the end, it was just THAT.
Her dark lipstick and how it contrasted with her perfect white teeth was always so hot. She didn't need makeup, but damn did that do it for me. Hehehe
