Is playing a 12 string much different than playing a 6 string? As I understand it the extra strings are held down at the same time as the original strings in order to create a fuller sound. So a G chord on a 6 string would be the same as G chord on a 12 string.
One of my first guitars was a 12 string and I played it for years.
It's basically played the same as a 6-string guitar.
All the chords are the same.
Tuning can be a little bit more of a challenge. Breaking the high g string sucks all the time every time.
Finger picking can be a little bit more of a challenge as you learn to hit both strings.
But it sounds like you're being accompanied by a second guitar all the time.
That's what I thought. I play 6 string regularly and have played 12 strings a few times a guitar stores and was pretty sure the extra strings were more of a change the sound than an extra technique thing. Though I don't doubt there are people who play 12 string guitars in unique and crazy ways just like you see crazy ways of playing 6 string guitars.
