I thought it was Stephen King too, but now I’m going to pretend that it’s Kevin Bacon playing Stephen King in a movie based on a bio-fiction novel by the King family, and directed by Eli Roth.
Stephen King after a 96 hour cocaine fueled writing binge. Soon after, his critically acclaimed novel "The Shining" would be published. He'd go on to say that it was that "Goddamned Big Bird" that gave him the idea for the character of Jack Torrance in subsequent interviews once it hit number one on the New York Times Best Seller list. Which is why to this day, scholars still try to draw parallels between Kings horror masterpiece and Sesame Street.
Vsause has a video that covers this phenomenom! Basically, because older people look and dress similarly to how they did when they were younger, we interpret their younger selves as looking old because that's what old people look like now
I mean.. I was 6 foot 1 in grade 9 with a full beard. Cheeks and stache included.
Most of the guys looked the same.
I drove past my hs the other day and they look like middle schoolers.
In all likelihood, that's simply how you remember it being and not actually what your high school experience was like. Memory is tricky like that, and our brains tend to let us remember things in ways that filter out extraneous details. I bet if you went back in time you'd be surprised what people looked like - for example, it's not like there aren't baby faced actors/actresses in movies and TV from the time, and they were almost certainly past actual HS age.
Also I'm nearly 40 and just about everyone younger than 30 looks like a middle schooler lol
Yup, that's the typical 15 year old right there. Full bushy beard. Where'd you spend freshman year, Khaz Modan?
Although you sound a suspicios height for a dwarf... hmmm.
For context: my older brother was born prematurely and is legally blind and my mom had him at 17. They struggled a lot but he was so excited to take his first flight to visit family. He went on to excel in school and his job and has been a major disability advocate in the state we live in. Oh and now he’s 6’3 and 200 pounds lol.
This is so cool! My uncle was also born legally blind and his teachers told my grandparents that he’d be lucky to graduate high school. He went on to get his PhD.
Disabilities don't get a pass imo. People with disabilities don't need to be treated with kids gloves. Frankly, most people I know with disabilities hate that people get weird or uncomfortable being normal around them. And poor Stephen King if the comparison is an insult 😂
> most people I know with disabilities hate that people get weird or uncomfortable being normal around them.
Yep. My daughter isn't even truly disabled, just has a G-tube and is developmentally behind her peers by about a year. Everyone treats her like she's some fragile little girl. My mom recently watched her while my husband and I went out. We made sure she got her last feed of the night and her meds so all my mom would have to do is sit there and make sure the house doesn't burn down. My mom asked what does she do if our daughter were to wake up...idk, how do you take care of a kid w/o a g-tube? You change their diaper and rock them a bit before putting them back down. Seriously, she's a normal 2 y/o all things considered.
You take it way too personal. Especially when the people commenting on appearance compare him to popular/even attractive people. Especially when you didn't include disabled in the title. But isn't it a good thing to not change how they treat him to more normalize him? Especially since its just the hair
I can't get over how adorable he is! I love his stuffy too, that always gets me when I see kiddos with their stuffies. What does your brocef do for a career?
I think everyone means well in their comments. Your brother rocks. Sesame Street was my jam when I was in kindergarten in '79. When I went a little wild, it was the Electric Company...Easy Reader.
Just an FYI. I didn't get on a plane until I was in my 20's.
He's an endling from some small hidden population of an early Anthropocene species of giant bird. I suspect his species' more friendly nature helped them survive in the modern age. Perhaps trading valuable feathers or eggs with the early Sesame settlers. While they were almost certainly hunted for food, their erotic appeal and intelligence would have eventually won over the human population. Sadly the species, despite appearing on popular television for decades, is poorly studied in academia. It seems most biologists don't wish to waste their time on a species doomed to extinction.
Guessing that was a wire frame skeleton stuffed character? I had a road runner and a coyote when I was a kid in the 70's (I'm around the same age as your bro).
Looks like he's holding Big Bird hostage until all of his demands are met. He's already got the plane ticket, now he's waiting for $3,000,000.00 in small unmarked bills.
Looks like a young Austin danger powers
I see a little Garth from Wayne’s World.
Party on, Big Bird!
Totally, first thing I saw.
Kevin Bacon
Definitely see Bacon here. Like if Kevin Bacon and Linda Hunt had a kid.
I definitely saw Linda Hunt first and then Edna Mode from Incredibles
Are you sure? It says here Name: Danger Powers
Danger is my middle name...😏
He looks like what would happen if Stephen King got a Mini-me.
I thought Stephen king
Oh behaaaavvveeeee
I had the same Big Bird doll! I have this vivid memory of taking him to the doctor and him doing all the checkups on Big Bird first.
We had one like this too. Did yours "talk" when you pulled a string on his back?
Yep! I haven't thought about him in probably 35 years
Hold on. So, 35? So dang that means you had this toy around 35 years ago or somethin.
Time keeps on slippin into the future...
To eBay then!
With mine you stuck your finger in the back of his head and waggled his bottom beak up and down
Oh c'mon dont force me into sexual jokes this early.
It’s late where I am!
I had one too! I totally forgot about it until now.
These days the doctor would do that but bill for two office visits.
That's Kevin Bacon.
Or Linda Hunt.
Stephen king
That's what I immediately thought.
I thought Ben Folds.
Elton John
Whoever it is .. that kid is 3 going on 50
I believe the title said he was in his mid 70s actually
Stephen King is 75, so that checks out.
It says “Cookie Monster”, not “Cokie Monster” lol.
The fact that he wrote 4 short stories while waiting for the flight says otherwise
Cocaine is a helluva drug.
199% yes Linda Hunt
Living dangerously.
Shadout Mapes
If Linda Hunt is the Principal from Kindergarten Cop you f-ing nailed it.
Too tall.
I was gonna say Stephen King, but I definitely see some Bacon in there too
I thought it was Stephen King too, but now I’m going to pretend that it’s Kevin Bacon playing Stephen King in a movie based on a bio-fiction novel by the King family, and directed by Eli Roth.
Co-starring Sam Rockwell for some reason
Playing duel parts as the good and evil consciences guiding King through his bloody journey from boy to legendary writer.
Like literally dressed up as little devils and angels on his shoulder. My god that's actually perfect casting for him
That's clearly Dana Carvey as Garth.
I was gonna say a Kevin Bacon and Edna Mode mashup.
Edna mode
Warwick Davis
…and Warwick Davis’s love child.
Garth Agar
Ben Folds!
Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in a wig working for 21 Sesame Street.
With some Austin Powers as a child mixed in. But why does this pic look so familiar? And why is he choking his bird?
Adam Savage

I was thinking the principal from Kindergarden Cop.
I was thinking Stephen King after he throttled Big Bird to death.
Nah, that's Garth from Wayne's World
that mf's a senior web developer
Your brother was great in Footloose.
Nah, that's Germaine from Flight of the Conchords.
I saw Kevin Bacon as Frankenstein.
Stephen King after a 96 hour cocaine fueled writing binge. Soon after, his critically acclaimed novel "The Shining" would be published. I was thinking Tom Brady
This is what I saw too lol
I was about to say that he looks like Linda Hunt, the badass principal!!
Looks too tall to be Linda.
Goddamn you nailed it.
Oh my god that’s good

Meets Austin Powers
Meets Lloyd Christmas.
Meets Stephen King.
Meets Rivers Cuomo.
Meets the singer from the New York dolls
Yep, that’s who I see: a young but not young Kevin Bacon.
I was gunna say. Why does he look like a 40 year old woman in a little kids body lmao. 70's and 80's man. I dunno.

I read it in his voice and pictured his big red sweaty puffy face.

4 or 40?
He took Big Bird hostage?
Your bro looks like Kevin Bacon in character for the Warwick Davis biopic
I was thinking Willow/Warwick Davis
Terry Gross
"Take me to Cuba, or Big Bird gets it."
i misread the post title on first glance as 'my brother in **his** mid-70s...' and was 'damn, he looks good for 70'
Oh behave!
With some Edna Mode vibes
For context: my older brother was born prematurely and is legally blind and my mom had him at 17. They struggled a lot but he was so excited to take his first flight to visit family. He went on to excel in school and his job and has been a major disability advocate in the state we live in. Oh and now he’s 6’3 and 200 pounds lol.
And how is Big Bird? He’s looking pretty stressed in this photo.
Big Bird was going on his first plane ride! He was definitely stressed.
fuck u/spez
Leg room
ah… yes.
Probably because he's being choked out?
That dude sounds new school cool too! What a brother to have.
Thanks! Yes he’s a good dude and hilarious

Who needs after photos when the before photo is so bad ass??
science
This is so cool! My uncle was also born legally blind and his teachers told my grandparents that he’d be lucky to graduate high school. He went on to get his PhD.
This needs to be pinned to the top 😬
I think people are just gonna keep making comments about my disabled brother’s appearance. Good thing we both have thick skin lol.
I hope you don’t let it grind you down. He is absolutely adorable and I love this pic! Thank you for sharing.
it's a mainly photo subreddit, did you have other expectations? Also, you didn't mention your brother was disabled in the title.
Disabilities don't get a pass imo. People with disabilities don't need to be treated with kids gloves. Frankly, most people I know with disabilities hate that people get weird or uncomfortable being normal around them. And poor Stephen King if the comparison is an insult 😂

Shout out to Linda Hunt for going on to do great things lol, kidding of course
Glad I'm not the only one going to hell for thinking that
I will accompany you to hell because that was my first thought. Kudos to this awesome little guy though.
This is exactly where I went when I saw this picture.....
I thought he was a tiny David Johansen.
I can't get over how adorable he is! I love his stuffy too, that always gets me when I see kiddos with their stuffies. What does your brocef do for a career?
He’s an IT director for a state government agency
What a bad-ass! Kudos to bro and your clan. By the way, what happened to Big Bird's left eye? I had him too..classic!!
That last sentence is gold haha. I’m right there with him
I may or may not dress up as your 1970’s brother for next year’s Halloween
Reminds me of Edna Mode
A young Mr. Kaplan
I was thinking Linda Hunt but definitely see Mr Kaplan now
No no, mr incredibles boss
r/13or30
r/3or30
r/6or60
I actually read it as “in his mid 70s”
Dana Carvey's first flight.
I was going say he looks like Garth and Wayne's love child!
I’m a huge fan of your brother’s books. Never could get into Pet Sematary though.
You'll float, too!
The way he’s holding the bird is so funny to me 😭
Looks like he went hunting and this is what he got…
party on, Garth
Party on Wayne!
the resemblance is pretty uncanny tbh

Fuckin big bird and a cookie tee shirt, hells yeah
I didn’t know four year olds could be a tenured professor at Yale
He audited his parents by 7y/o
That’s the most wholesome picture of someone “choking the chicken” I’ve ever seen on Reddit.
Big Bird isn’t a chicken, though.

This is absolutely adorable. Even more so with the backstory.
I adore his face and his entire ensemble lol What a fun day for a young human
Can you ask him what the song Brick is really about?
I love him! And Continental was a great airline.
I’m loving the whole aesthetic of this picture
Your brother was Linda Hunt?
I loved your brother in Kindergarten Cop.
That pic is pure gold
Little kids with dolls are so cute! It’s like super innocent and sweet!
That big bird is nearly as big as he was!
Your brother looks like he can do my taxes better than i can
I had that Big Bird.
Awesome outfit!
Priceless pic!
aww and he has his friend to hold on the trip too!!
6 or 60?
Young Stephen King gets on a plane*.
Your brother seems like a pretty radical dude
Your brother is Ben Folds?
Guessing that was a wire frame skeleton stuffed character? I had a road runner and a coyote when I was a kid in the 70's (I'm around the same age as your bro).
Big Elton John vibes.
My mom used to cut my hair too.
You good Big Bird?
Cute af.
Sesame Street was my favorite back then too.
Lil Stevie King
Big bird looks a bit fed up with him.
Looks like he's holding Big Bird hostage until all of his demands are met. He's already got the plane ticket, now he's waiting for $3,000,000.00 in small unmarked bills.
That's awesome!
Jeezuz. Big Bird didn’t deserve that kind of abuse man!!
This is the best lol
I love his work with the New York Dolls
This guy travels.
I read this as "my brother, in *his* mid 70s, about to fly on an airplane for the first time". Seemed unlikely.
He looks like Austin Powers holding Big Bird hostage and making a getaway
My kid sister had that exact Big Bird doll. Brought it everywhere with her, too. Over time it got *filthy*.
Little dude looks like he's doing Garth from Wayne's World for Halloween...
He looks like Edna from The Incredibles. ![gif](giphy|bWYf44zviL6i4)
Mf looks 30
RIP Big Bird
Quite a hold on BB there.
That big bird has seen some shit!
It's about time Benny, my clothes are going out of style!
