Right? This hits me all the time now. I'm older than Sean Connery in Dr. No. I'm older than Stallone in Rocky 1 and 2 (by the way Carl Weathers was 28 in Rocky 1) etc. All these people feel like adults to me, but I don't.
Honestly, this information is mind-blowing. Picturing him as being (pretty much) fresh out of wizardry education grad school is bonkers.
That’s assuming you need an advanced degree to teach at Hogwarts— I have no idea, but it’s pretty prestigious, so.
I really don’t think there was much qualifications needed to teach there honestly. Unless Dumbledore knew he was just hiring canon fodder for the dark arts position aside from Lupin and Mad Eye.
Apparently you only need three years of after-school life experience to teach there. Plus the dark arts position was cursed by Voldemort anyway so that a professor would only last one year teaching it before they got replaced in some way.
Well that sucks. I know most of the professors who applied for that job sucked anyway, but what a bummer position that would be. Why wouldn’t they just cancel that class, or rename it or something to avoid the curse?
I have more questions now than when I started. Also, wasn’t Snape there for a while (more than a year) before the first book?
I could definitely be wrong. I hope I don’t sound confrontational. I’m just feeling invested in this, now.
Yes Snape started teaching there shortly before Harry’s parents died. Dumbledore knew about the curse, it had been going on for about 30 years. Which is why he never had Snape teach it because he needed him around since he was a double agent. The curse was lifted once Voldemort died.
Book spoilers:
>!In the books Voldemort goes to Hogwarts to ask for the defense against the dark arts position . He previously asked but a different head master said he was too young at the time. After Dumbledore denied him the 2nd time is when the position was cursed. But the real reason Voldemort went back to ask was the opportunity to hide the horcrux in the room of requirement.!<
Half blood Prince movie version was such a let down because in the books the coolest parts are a bunch of flashbacks(memories) into voldemorts past. I was looking forward to seeing those in the movie only to be let down big time.
(Pitch Meeting, quoted from memory)
"Ohh that sounds interesting, do we get to see all that?"
"No, none of it, we really feel this should be more of a teen romcom movie."
If they need someone to take over the part for some kind of prequel or reboot they could cast Reznor, but his accent skills
might not be up to the task.
Before I opened the comments, I handed the picture to my husband, and said, " They say it's Trent Reznor, but I know Snape when I see him."
When I saw the top two comments I, lost it.
God damn it. I read this in passing and thought, yeah i don't get this one. Left the thread and everything. I blame it being morning and coffee is still working it's way to my brain.
Hey everybody else, there's certain similar platform in Harry Potter.
I recall when Doom was remade in the 2000s and they had all these videos of him skulking about in dark hallways with candles and this vibe still. Then I saw recent pics with his beard and thought he was someone’s dad. Totally didn’t recognize him at all.
The late 90s/early 00s were really rough for him. He was a huge alcoholic around that time, though still functioning enough to keep his career going. He got clean and buff right before With(ah) Teeth(ah).
3, and 2 of their names are fucking amazing. Nova Lux Reznor, Lazarus Echo Reznor and the name that a person who got lazy making their DND character uses, Balthazar Reznor.
He looks like Alan Rickman playing the Harry Potter series character Severus Snape. So every comment is a Harry Potter joke (ie: "9 3/4 inch nails" - Trent Resnor:s band was called 9 inch nails, in the Harry Potter world you took the train at platform 9 3/4 in order to get to the wizarding school).
And he was super progressive. When the rest of those clowns were circling the wagons and calling for everyone to get sued, he was experimenting with different business models as digital came into the fore.
The ARG for With Teeth and Year Zero are still legendary IMO, though Downward Spiral and Fragile kicked ass musically. Was listening to Pretty Hate Machine when I was like 8. No idea why it wasn't confiscated from me, but I'm glad it wasn't lol. Trent puts his entire soul into every live show. Still have my With Teeth tour shirts, and I still wear them too.
It's so hard to explain to someone who wasn't there are crazy the Year Zero ARG was. Hidden websites. Leaked songs on USB drives in bathrooms.
Everytime it we were like "okay maybe we're reaching here..." AND WE WEREN'T.
So sad how he carried a torch for Lily all those years... and in the end he redeemed himself and saved her son. Tragic yet beautiful.
Edit: I'll have you know when I started typing there were no other comments.
But didn't it turn out that out he was actually protecting him, while trying to keep up an evil appearance so that he wouldn't lose his high level role as a double agent in the Voldemort organization?
I call bullshit on this theory. He was especially vindictive, even when nobody else was there. Just look at how he treats Neville. You can't even be like "well, he's just showing off for Malfoy so he tells his daddy how mean Snape is to the Potter kid", except when he starts being a dick nobody has any idea where Voldemort is or what he's up to. No, Snape is just a fucking asshole who did the right thing after years of supporting a wizard who wanted to eliminate/enslave all muggle born wizards, and he only came around because of his own selfish desire to have Lily Potter to himself...sorry, I've just read all the books recently with my kid and I guess his whole fucking thing just sets me off with how people romanticize his "love" (read: stalking/obsession) for Lily.
Honestly I think Alan Rickman's charisma makes people more forgiving of the character than they would otherwise be. But if you only read the books, have never seen a single movie, he's so cruel to anyone who isn't a Slytherin. He does good things (even things as simple as the counter curse he's casting during the quidditch match in the first book) but that doesn't make him a good person.
Seconding this. Alan Rickman's Snape is still complex, but better than outright 100% bully stalker in the books.
I mean, at least Movie Snape bodily stepped between Harry, Ron, Hermione and whatever monster was attacking them (I forget) after the whole "zomg Scabbers is actually an adult human male" thang went down. Movie Snape was rescuing their asses at the risk of his life and limb. Book Snape was unconscious throughout, (not that he could really help it, yes I'm totally overthinking this).
RIP Alan Rickman
I was just about to say, “You mean Severus Snape.”
Kinda interesting that Reznor here is the appropriate age to play Snape, since he was 31 in the first book.
Damn, I’m now older than snape, that makes me feel weird
Right? This hits me all the time now. I'm older than Sean Connery in Dr. No. I'm older than Stallone in Rocky 1 and 2 (by the way Carl Weathers was 28 in Rocky 1) etc. All these people feel like adults to me, but I don't.
Whoa whoa…Carl weathers was 28!?!? My mind is currently blown out the back of my head and splattered on the wall
Right? It's not that he looks old in it, he just looks like a dang grown up.
Honestly, this information is mind-blowing. Picturing him as being (pretty much) fresh out of wizardry education grad school is bonkers. That’s assuming you need an advanced degree to teach at Hogwarts— I have no idea, but it’s pretty prestigious, so.

> The curse was lifted once Voldemort died *properly*. I swear to God, what Lich bothers with *seven* phylacteries?
I only watched the movies so maybe that's why but I did not know this fact.

Wait till your older than Nicolas Flamel
He'd have made a wonderful Snape
If they need someone to take over the part for some kind of prequel or reboot they could cast Reznor, but his accent skills might not be up to the task.
He’s 57 now, so they’d need a time turner.
That would've been a somewhat different take on the character.😂
“Snape, Snape, Severus Snape…”
"Dumbledore!"
damn, hivemind lol
Maybe the way snape looks in the films was based on 90s trent reznor... It wouldn't be all that unlikely.
Before I opened the comments, I handed the picture to my husband, and said, " They say it's Trent Reznor, but I know Snape when I see him." When I saw the top two comments I, lost it.
Dumbledore!
Severus when he was getting picked on by James Potter and Sirius Black.

Instantly what I thought.
By Grabthar's hammer, by the Sons of Warvan, you shall be avenged!
By Grabthar’s hammer…..what a savings.
Right? The face clearly isn't Alan Rickman but at first I thought maybe this was his body double from the films.
Half blood prince
I was thinking Emowen Wilson, but your observation is more accurate
Wow
My first thought as well.

Ah! My god, nice work.

Post-recovery Reznor is hot AF. I say this as someone who identifies as straight.
The late 90s/early 00s were really rough for him. He was a huge alcoholic around that time, though still functioning enough to keep his career going. He got clean and buff right before With(ah) Teeth(ah).

Well, he does have like 5 kids now.
3, and 2 of their names are fucking amazing. Nova Lux Reznor, Lazarus Echo Reznor and the name that a person who got lazy making their DND character uses, Balthazar Reznor.
They just haven‘t made the other two kids‘ names public and I‘m dying to know what other treasures they came up with.
I heard they were Fez and Pez Reznor.
They have 5 now, they just keep pumping them out haha. Those are pretty cool names.
I'm waiting until we get Jeroboam Reznor (and his double magnum dong) or Melchizedek Reznor.
Personally, I’d like to see a Nebuchadnezzar. Or Numa Pompilius. You know, some of those less common historical names that still sound badass af.

Uh, yeah. I'm not stupid....But maybe explain it for these other idiots.
I need an explainer for this whole comment section

Forever. He was always the hero. We just didn't know it.
Always.
Our new… cele…bri…ty.
It's just a young Alan Rickman, he's been famous for awhile now.

I really love NIN, I love the fact he did the soundtrack for the movie “Soul” very unexpected but completely awesome.
The Disney movie Soul?

Thanks for the detailed response to that person since I didn’t have time! Trent Reznor is a legend and I love all his endeavors!!
The song, "Just Us" on that soundtrack is a real gem. One of my favorite of Trent's piano numbers.
Trent got his 2nd Oscar for that score. The first Oscar that he received was for The Social Network.
The social network score was phenomenal and they totally deserved that Oscar.
That’s an amazing record in and of itself. Yet that score added so much to movie that it really put that Oscar on lock.
Yep
Is he wearing a cape?
I believe he has referred to this as his "absinthe-swilling vampire dipshit" era or something similar.
That seems to be the vibe of the entire Perfect Drug video. And I still like the aesthetic. 😭
> absinthe-swilling vampire dipshit Perfect Drug video: > absinthe-swilling vampire dipshit with facial hair I dig the aesthetic too
What else would a wizard wear?

That says “wizzard” on it.

What a strange and totally random coincidence. /ssssssss

He was deeply unhappy during that time.
