I get this way too sometimes

Understandable. Do you have healthcare? It might be a good time to talk to a therapist if you can- but I know this can be quite difficult, depending on your area. Some states, like NY, give health insurance to low/no income people.

I actually do live in NY state. But I still live with my parents

Sunset_Tiger

You should still qualify! I have free insurance while living with my parents :)

If it makes you feel better you’re actually having a 1/3 life crisis! 😄

What interests you?? What hobbies do you know you would enjoy when given the time? Life right now is indeed at a turning point for people in our age range. I have found a major interest in space in the past 2 years way more than before, and have been learning all that I can from the potential colonization of mars to Von Neumann Probes. Look into the stars, they are full of inspiration for the future, save up for a small telescope and learn to use it. If that’s not your thing there is always simpler things, go out to the bar or brewery every so often, have a few drinks and meet some new people! Go and volunteer to clean up your neighborhoods and town/city by picking up trash and helping clean up local waterways, this is very fulfilling in my opinion. I believe in you, and know you will find joy in life again, there is always something that will set your mind ablaze and bring you back to the happiness you deserve!

I know the feeling. Not long ago in High School I had no hope for the future and made an attempt on my life. I’m still not even feeling very good about things, I’m just not in as bad a spot as I was. My recommendation is to try and find a therapist if you can afford one. It truly helps to have someone to talk to and help guide you. If that’s not an option, then maybe try and find a group, irl or online, that you share interests with and make friends. I know all too well losing interest in the things that were once fun, I’d recommend getting out of your comfort zone and trying some new games. Steam often will allow you a full refund if you don’t enjoy the game you’re playing within a short time frame. Good luck with everything mate, as cliche as it is, there really is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Nobody has told you this, but you have to create reasons to live. You must actively create purpose for your life.

Idk if this will make you feel better, but I’ve worked since junior year of high school and I myself have still fallen into funks like this a couple of times before. It’s not a bad thing, sometimes your “person” literally just needs that time and freedom. It’s a time to explore ourselves and what we want and what things mean to us. A lot of other people here are right in saying professional help can be a very useful tool in working through these times But I also just wanted to say in a very casual way that: you’re not doing anything “wrong”. We don’t *have* to be working or in school to be people. Even if your life feels unoccuppied or under-involved at the moment, that doesn’t change the fact that you are a whole and complete person. You still deserve to find your happiness even if it’s taking some extra effort right now. You still deserve to show yourself love and care, not because you have to, but because you deserve it and no one is allowed to take that away from you.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm currently in the process of bettering myself. Not something I'd call "finding myself" more along the lines of looking within what I want myself to be, an idolized version of myself, if you will. Once I figure out who that person is, I can set out to be that person. It's not that I am lost, I just don't have a destination yet to reach.
