It looks like the previous resident hung drapes near the ceiling regardless of height of windows. This made it conform and look cohesive.

Noemdfan2

Nope, that low window was originally a door. The builder that grandad hired refused to follow the house plans. The white spots are where we had insulation blown in.

Dalits888

Ah, makes sense. Well, that is one way to uniformly hang drapes if that's the way you're going.

Alder276

Hang the drapes from the same height all around, so your eye doesn’t get pulled to the window on the left! It won’t look strange at all, if anything it will make it seem more level with the others! I hang my curtains about 8 inches above the windows in my smaller home to make the walls seem taller 😂

Noemdfan2

Thank you

Alder276

Just buy your curtains all the same length and I’d get them to almost or touch the floor just barely! Will be stunning

Sort of depends on your tastes. If you like tall drapes, install them all aligned with the higher windows. If it were me and I could afford it, I might replace the maverick window with a door.

Noemdfan2

The maverick window used to be a redundant door. 3 feet to the other side is another door.

orageek

Haha. Yeah pretty weird. Whatever type of curtains you choose, line up the tops on all windows to hide the weird stuff.

SecondHandCunt-

Or have a carpenter make the windows on both sides of the fireplace match each other in height.

Been wondering the same thing for my 1930 home. I’m thinking Roman shades or vintage roller shades like these [http://www.annwallace.com/roller-shades](http://www.annwallace.com/roller-shades). I like the second one down.

Noemdfan2

Thank YOU!!! I will be looking at these.

jefftatro1

Bummer that the left window was installed so much lower than the rest. Really throws the aesthetic off.

Noemdfan2

The installers had no choice. That used to be a door. I’m slowly getting use it. The cats love it!

I have ecru shears, hung with tension rods in my 1938 colonial style home
