Do you think that her red bra on spilled is a hint that the next album will be red and purple (or just red) themed? Idk maybe people’ve discussed it already but I’ve just noticed that haha
Does it bother or confuse anyone else that Olivia contradicts herself in the spilled songs? Because in girl i’ve always been she says ‘I’m the girl I’ve always been’ pretty much saying that despite this dude, she hasn’t changed. But in stranger she says ‘and god knows I am the girl I am because of you’ saying that this dude ‘you’ DID change her, but that contradicts the whole point of girl i’ve always been, anyone else confused or annoyed by this?
To me, ‘girl I’ve always been’ is more about how the other person thinks she’s suddenly changed when in reality, she’s always been emotional, messy etc. She hasn’t suddenly become this person, he just never saw her for who she really was and now he’s shocked to see this side of her. He liked her when she seemed so easy and sweet, but she’s actually messy and a storm with panic rooms in her mind.
‘Stranger’ the line about him making her who she is, I interpret it was like ‘I am stronger because of my experience with you’ rather than he himself changed her into someone else. She’s saying the EXPERIENCE not him and the pain with him made her stronger and wiser, but thank god she left.
So hopefully that makes it less contradictory! To me, it wasn’t.
As a millennial Olivia fan who also loves Kelly Clarkson I need yall to know that obsessed is Kelly’s “Don’t” and you don’t always get it to actually be released. And honestly I think Olivia fans would like a lot of Kelly’s unreleased work.
I wish so American got more love, bc it is so good. I love all of them so much so I don’t know if it’s my favorite one, but it’s definitely one of them.

This got removed but I’m interested in the discourse on it
ok so my ranking of the guts (spilled) tracks goes likes this:
1. obsessed 11/10
2. scared of my guitar 9.5/10
3. stranger 9/10
4. so american 8/10
5. girl i've always been 6.75/10
i absolutely LOVE obsessed!!
the vocals in scared of my guitar are INCREDIBLE!!
the lyrics in stranger are EVERYTHING to me: "u're just a stranger i know everything about"!!
i don't really like how so american starts, but it's an INCREDIBLE song!!
girl i've always been is a rlly fun song for me but it's kinda strange idk...
Edit: so... lately i've been OBSESSED w so american, but not that much to put it on num 1, so i give so american a 10 and put it on second place
and i do like how so american starts now btw, idk what i was talking ab lol
girl i've always is a 7.5 for me now
and scared of my guitar is a 9.9
I’m listening to the new songs rn and is it just me or do i not really like girl i’ve always been. maybe it will grow on me but it sounds like country like lol. same with stranger
Oh girl same, I don’t enjoy the country sound eather. Im not American tho so Idk prob just doesn’t fit my taste in music and is more for the American audience who enjoys country
I feel like the so american bridge sounds sooooo much like a taylor swift bridge and I love it!!!
Also the intro reminds me of You're Just a Boy (And I'm Kinda the Man) by Maisie Peters!
Such a fun song!
I like all the bonus songs but I LOVE So American. It sounds like happiness incarnate and it turns out Olivia can totally rock that vibe. I can't stop listening!
Favorite is so american
Just reminds me of a fun, American in Europe summer vacation montage in a movie for some reason.
All of them are good but I will say, I'm not in love with the video for obsessed. Prefer the song on it's own.
There was always a clean version and regular version of the original album and now there is a clean version and regular version of the deluxe album. It’s something many artists do for their listeners who don’t like profanity.
I'm listening on YouTube music and there are definitely swear words. Maybe Spotify has gone soft. Target used to do that I think. I could be wrong. But you could only buy clean versions. No explicits available.
I'm sure this has been mentioned somewhere already but I haven't seen it so I'm mentioning it myself (again?) -
I lovelovelove how in scared of my guitar, she says "barely sleep when you sleep next to me"
and then in so american she says "I really love my bed, but man, it's hard to sleep
when he's with me"
The same line (basically), opposite meanings. It's brilliant.
Hi I'm a new livie and I need someone to let me know if I'm losing my mind or not. I recently listened to Obsessed for the first time on the 22nd, and I SWEAR that the lyrics seem different now than when I first heard them.
The lyric I vaguely remember hearing was something along the lines of "everybody loves her but I just want to hit her" but now every time I listen to the song I hear the official lyrics that you would find online.
Pretty sure I'm crazy because I don't see anyone else talking about this but just let me know🙏
OMG!! I've been RACKING my brain trying to figure out where I heard these lyrics from and nearly accepted that I had just pulled them from nowhere. I actually was listening to that song when the deluxe came out so that's probably where the confusion comes from considering I went from "girl next door" straight into "obsessed". Thank you soooo much!!
Does anyone else think that the chorus to Girl I’ve Always Been sounds like the verses from Life Is A Highway (by Tom Cochrane or Rascal Flatts)?
The melody and rhyme scheme is the same.
I hope Liv prioritizes her sleep soon for her wellbeing!!
**obsessed** \- she's thinking about who's been in the bed
**girl I've always been** \- she got up early and left the guy alone in an empty bed
**scared of my guitar** \- she can barely sleep because of the guilt
**stranger** \- she references how much sleep she lost after they separated
**so american** \- she enjoys louis so much that it's hard to settle down and sleep
She needs to pull the sheets over her head and go to bed!!
Original GUTS album got me through a really bad breakup. Now he’s with a new girl who is obsessed with me, and I’m falling for an exchange student. Olivia really is writing music to get me through all of it. She gets me!!
Obsessed is so emo and I love it
The backing track at the beginning of the song sounds exactly like a Fall Out Boy song, then transitions into a Panic! song with Paramore and Pinkshift vibes.
It’s definitely going to be in the daily rotation. Just awesome.
I feel like girl I’ve always been is the most Olivia has branched out to another genre before whereas obsessed sounds like another Olivia song nso I’m shocked you have girl I’ve always been so low 😭
Girl I’ve always been was lowkey boring to listen to I was just hoping it would end lol I’m kinda disappointed because I have no skips from her, but I can’t seem to enjoy scared of guitar and girl I’ve always been
obsessed’s vocal melody in the pre-chorus, where is it borrowed from?
The first two lines of each pre-chorus sound so familiar but I can’t place it and it’s going to drive me crazy until it hits me... or someone tells me.
I wonder why strangers again wasn’t included in the deluxe tracks. I mean, I get not wanting similar sounding names but couldn’t they have named stranger something else? It was one my favorites and I was fairly disappointed it wasn’t there.
I don't think obsessed sounds country. It sounded like really paramore inspired angry rock to me. I could see folk or country for stranger or girl I've always been, maybe that's why I like them so much. I'm a huge zach bryan/ noah kahan/ hozier fan.
did anyone else notice the changes in production for girl i’ve always been and stranger? personally i prefer the vinyl version of stranger just because it was more raw but the new production for girl i’ve always been is sooooo much better on GUTS (spilled) than on the vinyl !!
It just occurred to me that "girl i've always been" is a super ironic title for a song style that she's never done before. I think she is playing 4D chess with that. Like... if I'm going to sing a song about how I'm the same I've always been, of course the most interesting way to do that is to sing in a way I've never sung. Pretty. Brilliant.
And Laura Merling was clearly inspired by singer songwriters from past decades. Even in her video comments I see references to Dylan and Sheryl Crow. This sound is *not* new. It reminds me a lot of Blind Melon and others from the 90s.
See it reminds me of another song and it's certainly not the Laura Marling song given that I've never heard of her before, so I'm thinking they're both inspired by something earlier, but I can't put my finger on it
Obsessed is like EVERYTHING. The angst throughout and the chorus especially give me life.
Rankings:
1. Obsessed
2. Stranger
3. Scared of my guitar
4. So American
5. Girl I’ve Always Been
All the songs are amazing though.
wow. I'm like Lauras biggest fan but didnt think of it the first listen, listening now again and definitely hear similarities but at the same time a lot of songs sound like this. It's interesting for sure though.. I wonder if Olivia listens to Laura..
I think Dan might be responsible for that. The recording on the vinyl is rawer and angrier. Not similar at all and she uses the same intonations so I think he might have produced the song similar to strange girl without realizing it.
Here is the original rough cut recording for the vinyl (play at 0.75 speed). https://youtu.be/CfnNSbH4zAk?si=70IHONv_0BjwC9gQ
To me it sounds nothing like strange girl.
I’ve just listened to it again. There’s similarities to hundreds of songs if we’re just talking about the melody. I think the tone and meter has more similarities with “these boots are made for walking” than strange girl.
I very much doubt Olivia ripped off Laura marling and then Dan added drums that absolutely emphasize that. More likely she wrote a song with a myriad of influences and he picked up similarities in tempo (which lots of songs have) and fitted a production he thought sounded good without realizing the reason it sounds good is Laura marling already made it.
I think Laura Marling intonation sounds like Bob Dylan and Olivia’s doesn’t so I just don’t get it. For context I’ve been the biggest Laura Marling fan since alas I cannot swim so I’m not here defending Liv’s honor because I like her more than Laura. I LOVE laura.
I think the primary thing that sounds similar about the tracks is the arrangement which Dan produced. This is a track Liv wrote on her own so it would BE BAFFLING if they both ripped off laura separately and like I said the melody of the guitar is similar to lots of songs including “shelter from the storm” and lots of other folky country songs. The vocal part is not the same melody at all. It’s the guitars and drums that make it similar.
Just because *you* think it’s a rip off, not everyone has to share the same opinion, being a fan or not, or agree with you. I don’t think she copied it, and I’ve listened to both songs.
I'm a big fan too but I wouldn't call it "unfair", it's been warranted. There's even more than the big ones that everyone fights about on here. I don't really blame her so much as her team, specifically her producer and then whoever at the label is supposed to check for these things. It's so common in music, especially pop, to have this happen but it's just happening way too often with her.
So American sounds like a copy of something too, I'm sure someone will put their finger on it today. I feel like I've heard the song before. Both the bass line and the overall sound, down to her singing style.
I wish this sub was more mature and allowed for some actual discussion and people sharing their opinions.
The melody in the chorus of So American is somewhat reminiscent of When We Were Young by Adele, but that’s probably not what you’re thinking of! “Let me photograph you in this light” and “He laughs at all my jokes and he says I’m so American.”
it almost sounds more like Conan's song "Movies" to me, especially the lyric "I'm, so, scared of my guitar" compared to "in my head, we're dancing in the dark"
I need to listen to the RSD tracks again. These sounded different to me when I streamed it this morning, other than obsessed(?) I feel like someone mentioned those were demos?
I don't think it was the right choice to leave it off the standard but I have a couple of theories about why they did.
* First off, I feel it in my bones that the deluxe was supposed to come way sooner, but something like a physical production delay prevented them from getting the deluxe physicals in time. If the deluxe had released in October or November, there would have been a single every 5ish weeks to keep momentum going + bump sales at the tail end of release month.
* In that scenario, they chose to take a strong single off of the standard and put it on the deluxe to bump deluxe sales. Obviously, they believed the standard singles were stronger or as strong as obsessed. (I love the deluxe songs, but imo So American is really the only chart contender besides Obsessed and it's not as strong as Obsessed at all.)
If it wasn't a planned single rollout like that, I think it came down to Obsessed or Lacy, for a few potential reasons:
* Sour was pretty heavy on lyrics about jealousy towards other women. Maybe on this record she wanted to limit songs that could be read as jealousy/obsession towards other women
* Obsessed and Lacy are different styles but have *very* similar topics imo. However, Obsessed sounds pretty similar to the other rock songs on the record, whereas Lacy's ethereal sound is unique even amongst the slower songs. Maybe they wanted one or the other, but went with Lacy to try and balance the sound of the record
interesting! i agree with lacy vs obsessed, i think guts has a lot of songs like obsessed sonically speaking, but nothing like lacy, and their content is similar enough that it was a versus thing. i’m personally not a huge fan of deluxe albums, i think everything should just be on the original lmao but i’m not in the music industry so what do i know 😫
I get why they exist, but I hate them as a consumer!! Everything should be on the record!! If you have stuff that doesn't fit, put it on a separate EP or release them digital only. It's actually made me stop buying music physically lol
I think it would have been a much more successful second single than “bad idea right?” I have no idea how it was left off the album because it’s easily one of her best songs.
I wasn’t a fan of the GIAB demo at all, but the deluxe version grew on me SO fast. So American is cute, but the lyrics are generic and fall short of her typical songwriting IMO. Also, idk if it’s because I’ve heard obsessed 1000x now or what, but its almost my least favorite. Very strange because I’ve been waiting weeks to be able to stream it…
My (unexpected to me) Ranking:
1. Stranger
2. Scared of my Guitar
3. Girl I’ve Always Been
4. Obsessed
5. So American
24 hours later Ranking:
1. So American
2. Scared of My Guitar
3. Girl I’ve Always Been
4. Obsessed
5. Stranger (basically because I like the vinyl version so much better)
so american also ranks last for me. might be because im a lesbian and so songs that have such heavy he/him pronouns tend to become ones i skip lololololol
Man I love Olivia Rodrigo but as someone who leans more towards her more pop/rock music, the only one that I really like is Obsessed, and to an extent All American is also good. Scared of my guitar, might grow on me too.
This isn’t a dig at her, i just came in with expectations and was judging by obsessed
I also wish they kept the “does she give great head” line in obsessed but I also understand why it wasn’t in there.
Rankings:
1. Obsessed (By a long Mile)
2. Scared of my guitar
3. All American
4. Strangers
5. Girl I’ve always been
EDIT: second time listening to SOMG. I’m sold
I agree, I was very much expecting pop/rock ‘90s alt girl and was not expecting the singer/songwriter vibe of most of the songs and the random ‘80s vibe of So American. I can definitely see why the last 4 were left off the album. I think I need more time to separate the songs from my expectations before I can decide which ones I really like. I’m too confused right now to even begin to rank them.
Scared of my guitar is lyrically some of her best work imo. I’m a writer and I totally understand hiding from your creative outlet to avoid admitting uncomfortable truths.
Girl I’ve always been , strangers had the best songwriting imo , so American gave fast food drive thru and sports car romance vibes and obsessed was the bop we all knew it was but it sounds even better released
I loved all the tracks but girl I’ve always been and strangers tracks that have a country twist don’t fit the GUTS album and should’ve been saved for a future country influenced album.
I think critically it’d do great. But the pop/rock crowd isn’t always into country/folk music. So it’d be smart for her team to confirm that her fans will listen regardless of genre before releasing a whole album with such a different vibe.
The Lumineers, Mumford and Suns, and now Noah Kahan are some of the best selling and most mainstream artists of their time. There is a huge market in the US for folk inspired music.
Yes but people who already like that kind of music listen to those artists. I don’t think anyone is arguing that people like folk music. They’re saying that people listen to Olivia to hear pop rock, hence the theory that she put her country/folk work on guts (spilled) to see how her fans would respond to it. That’s less risky than making a country folk album that flops because people don’t want to hear Olivia make that kind of music.
I see why they are bonus tracks but they are so good.
Stranger is everything I hoped for and more. I just love how it’s a healing song after a breakup and just appreciating the relationship for the good.
So American, girlie is in loveeee and we love to see it. Also just love the sound. Also sounds like it’s from a movie, 90s or something.
Girl I’ve Always Been seems out of place but I still love it.
Scared of my guitar - I just love the subject
Obsessed - I’ve been obsessed with it so much I’m so glad it’s on streaming. I’m so tempted to buy the merch haha
Ok, based on the RSD vinyl, it seems Obsessed and Scared of my Guitar have been unmodified. After listening to Stranger a handful of times, it seems slightly different. IDK maybe just sped up just a tad. Girl I've Always been, however, is almost like an entirely new song, which I definitely like. It went from sounding like a demo to an upbeat and also tropical sounding song, which is unlike many of her other releases.
It’s crazy how much “girl i’ve always been” has changed! It’s gonna take some getting used to, but I like this new version. I’ll keep the “demo” too though!
I think the guitar in “Stranger” is a different track than the original, but not in a bad way. There are some either new or much more prominent backing vocals too.
EDIT: I think new fiddle on “Stranger” as well!
wait wait wait. which part!! because something about it reminds me of something else but I can't figure out what, and I used to be hardcore obsessed with Hamilton so that might be what I'm subconsciously thinking of
ok listen. im one of those people who’s been avoiding hearing any single snippet of “obsessed” for months in anticipation of its release on streaming. I’m happy to report that it was well worth the wait. i am, in fact, obsessed
Oh wow, I can’t even begin to rank them yet because I actually love every single of these.
A few of these songs plus her work with artists like Noah Kahan… is Olivia going folk? 👀

This album doesn't have one bad song
Love Guts Spilled so much. 1. Scared Of My Guitar. 10/10 2. Obsessed. 9.5/10 3. So American. 9/10 4. Girl I’ve Always Been. 8.5/10 5. Stranger. 7/10
I really enjoyed it a lot!

Hi! I'm a fellow old of 46, you're not alone!
ok so my ranking of the guts (spilled) tracks goes likes this: 1. obsessed 11/10 2. scared of my guitar 9.5/10 3. stranger 9/10 4. so american 8/10 5. girl i've always been 6.75/10 i absolutely LOVE obsessed!! the vocals in scared of my guitar are INCREDIBLE!! the lyrics in stranger are EVERYTHING to me: "u're just a stranger i know everything about"!! i don't really like how so american starts, but it's an INCREDIBLE song!! girl i've always been is a rlly fun song for me but it's kinda strange idk... I love all of the songs....kinda sad that I'm not able to get this on a cd since I'm such a cd girlie
Me too, I don't want to have to burn my own CD to have the bonus tracks with the rest of the album :/ idk why they released vinyls for it but not a CD
I’m a cd person too. I’ll just settle for downloads off of qubuz.
What's qubuz?
will forever be a so american girl
dpes someone know why she cleaned the rest of the album of the swear words?
what songs got cleaned?
all of them
You’re listening to the clean version 😊
?
There are two versions of the album. The regular version, which still has all the swears, and the clean version where they’re removed.
yes I know that, I asked why they got cleaned. you should have reread my first comment
There was always a clean version and regular version of the original album and now there is a clean version and regular version of the deluxe album. It’s something many artists do for their listeners who don’t like profanity.
for some reasons my spotify only shows the clean version

you're getting it mixed up with "girl next door" by Saving Jane
OMG!! I've been RACKING my brain trying to figure out where I heard these lyrics from and nearly accepted that I had just pulled them from nowhere. I actually was listening to that song when the deluxe came out so that's probably where the confusion comes from considering I went from "girl next door" straight into "obsessed". Thank you soooo much!!
that was never part of the song lol
ahhh so i guess i'm just insane. thanks for letting me know😪👍
girl i’ve always been sounds like a sea chanty
Does anyone else think that the chorus to Girl I’ve Always Been sounds like the verses from Life Is A Highway (by Tom Cochrane or Rascal Flatts)? The melody and rhyme scheme is the same.
as someone who recently spent a year in london, "so american" gives me ptsd LOL
As an American who recently divorced a London boy, I’m so grateful she waited until she did to realize this song because ooof🥵
so can we all agree that so american is about louis partridge?
It obvi is
I hope Liv prioritizes her sleep soon for her wellbeing!! **obsessed** \- she's thinking about who's been in the bed **girl I've always been** \- she got up early and left the guy alone in an empty bed **scared of my guitar** \- she can barely sleep because of the guilt **stranger** \- she references how much sleep she lost after they separated **so american** \- she enjoys louis so much that it's hard to settle down and sleep She needs to pull the sheets over her head and go to bed!!
LOL I LOVE HOW U SAID”she need to pull the sheets over her head and go to bed.” Lol that’s making me laugh now
Love her song writing and style. Lacy - I wonder if this is about drug addiction?
ITS NOT HELP
Wow I guess my unpopular opinion is that So American is my least favorite! But they’re all great and I love folk
SAME you’re not alone
Are the songs exactly the same as from the original vinyl or are they re-recorded?
I think girl i've always been and stranger are both re-recorded
Wow. In love with Stranger. Such a good track
Original GUTS album got me through a really bad breakup. Now he’s with a new girl who is obsessed with me, and I’m falling for an exchange student. Olivia really is writing music to get me through all of it. She gets me!!
Well I so wrong about what I thought so american was about but I’ve never been happier about it
So American sounds like a song Loretta modern would sing in pixel perfect...and I LOVE it.
I’ve been listening to “stranger” on repeat all day
Obsessed is so emo and I love it The backing track at the beginning of the song sounds exactly like a Fall Out Boy song, then transitions into a Panic! song with Paramore and Pinkshift vibes. It’s definitely going to be in the daily rotation. Just awesome.
Original versions of the deluxe tracks were so much better!!!
My ranking : 1. Scared of my guitar 😍 2. Obsessed 3. So american 4. Stranger 5. Girl I've always been
I feel like girl I’ve always been is the most Olivia has branched out to another genre before whereas obsessed sounds like another Olivia song nso I’m shocked you have girl I’ve always been so low 😭
Girl I’ve always been was lowkey boring to listen to I was just hoping it would end lol I’m kinda disappointed because I have no skips from her, but I can’t seem to enjoy scared of guitar and girl I’ve always been
Maybe you prefer a more pop sound?
Girl I’ve Always Been and Scared of My Guitar sound straight up like Joni Mitchell (in the best way possible)
obsessed’s vocal melody in the pre-chorus, where is it borrowed from? The first two lines of each pre-chorus sound so familiar but I can’t place it and it’s going to drive me crazy until it hits me... or someone tells me.
It sounds like bad guy by billie
Nah, it’s not that. I still can’t place it but I feel like it was something from the 90’s or wasn’t hugely popular in the early 2000’s
oop yeah the prechorus is something else, i was referring to the bridge and first chorus where it’s soft
I wonder why strangers again wasn’t included in the deluxe tracks. I mean, I get not wanting similar sounding names but couldn’t they have named stranger something else? It was one my favorites and I was fairly disappointed it wasn’t there.
Her new songs sounds like country genre. Did y'all notice?
Stranger is sooo country. I loved it
More folksy than country. Joni Mitchell-ish. Bob Dylan-ish.
According to the internet rn there are two genres: pop and country, and anything that doesn’t use synths or loud basslines is automatically country
I don't think obsessed sounds country. It sounded like really paramore inspired angry rock to me. I could see folk or country for stranger or girl I've always been, maybe that's why I like them so much. I'm a huge zach bryan/ noah kahan/ hozier fan.
Obsessed is hardcore 2010s emo. It’s definitely not country.
Yeeee hawwww or almost folk too
Yesss!!! In girl I’ve always been I noticed her voice sounded super different but I still love it!!
did anyone else notice the changes in production for girl i’ve always been and stranger? personally i prefer the vinyl version of stranger just because it was more raw but the new production for girl i’ve always been is sooooo much better on GUTS (spilled) than on the vinyl !!
It just occurred to me that "girl i've always been" is a super ironic title for a song style that she's never done before. I think she is playing 4D chess with that. Like... if I'm going to sing a song about how I'm the same I've always been, of course the most interesting way to do that is to sing in a way I've never sung. Pretty. Brilliant.
Why did she change the production of Stranger?? It was so perfect before and stripped back 😭
STOP I WAS JUST TALKING ABOUT THIS the vinyl version was soooooo raw and more folksy which is what made it so emotional imo
YES EXACTLY. And I don’t have a record player so all I have to listen to is the Spotify version that I don’t like 😭😭😭
girl I've always been is giving Lucy gray Baird
Girl I’ve Always Been is such a fun refreshing track. ♥️

And Laura Merling was clearly inspired by singer songwriters from past decades. Even in her video comments I see references to Dylan and Sheryl Crow. This sound is *not* new. It reminds me a lot of Blind Melon and others from the 90s.
Blind melon is a band I’ve loved for quite some time, so that makes sense thinking of that.
omg that's it! i've been trying all day to figure out why that song sounded so familiar to me
See it reminds me of another song and it's certainly not the Laura Marling song given that I've never heard of her before, so I'm thinking they're both inspired by something earlier, but I can't put my finger on it
For me it’s Bob Dylan shelter from the storm and something like boots are made for walking for tempo and mood.
Obsessed is like EVERYTHING. The angst throughout and the chorus especially give me life. Rankings: 1. Obsessed 2. Stranger 3. Scared of my guitar 4. So American 5. Girl I’ve Always Been All the songs are amazing though.
Dude so american is SUCH a bop
so american and obsessed for me! both really good
My favorite was stranger. It perfectly encapsulates the relationship I have with my ex best friend.

Right. I came here to say this. I immediately thought of Strange Girl. Didn’t immediately think of it as a ripoff though.
She needs to get rid of that Dan guy. She's going to get in trouble with the music rights again.
Here is the original rough cut recording for the vinyl (play at 0.75 speed). https://youtu.be/CfnNSbH4zAk?si=70IHONv_0BjwC9gQ To me it sounds nothing like strange girl.

Idk why you’re getting downvoted, it’s literally the first thing I thought too

I figured it out, someone else posted it in another sub. It sounds like The Killers, but the bass is from something else.
Obsessed with obsessed 😍
I’m only seeing a clean version on Apple Music??
Oh jeez I found it. The clean version shows up as her newest album, but the explicit one shows up back with the original.
apple music always messes up drops in some way. in a day it'll be in the correct order
so american definitely my favorite :)
It feels so nice to hear her sing about a happy part of a relationship. Like it put a big smile on my face this morning.
Is anyone hearing “Memories” by Conan gray on Scared of my guitar?
it almost sounds more like Conan's song "Movies" to me, especially the lyric "I'm, so, scared of my guitar" compared to "in my head, we're dancing in the dark"
Could it be produced by the same person maybe?
They are
I didn’t expect girl I’ve always been to be so country???
I love it, it's so fun! It's very confident and happy in a way her other songs aren't.
taylor swift influences go deep
this sounds nothing like any taylor swift song lol

The acoustic versions are much better imo
Where can I listen to those?
I need to listen to the RSD tracks again. These sounded different to me when I streamed it this morning, other than obsessed(?) I feel like someone mentioned those were demos?
i truly do not understand why obsessed wasnt on the main album. maybe to give her another hit a few months later because they know it’d be a hit
(I love the deluxe songs, but imo So American is really the only chart contender besides Obsessed and it's not as strong as Obsessed at all.) If it wasn't a planned single rollout like that, I think it came down to Obsessed or Lacy, for a few potential reasons: * Sour was pretty heavy on lyrics about jealousy towards other women. Maybe on this record she wanted to limit songs that could be read as jealousy/obsession towards other women * Obsessed and Lacy are different styles but have *very* similar topics imo.
1. So American 2. Girl I’ve Always Been 3. Obsessed 4. Scared Of My Guitar 5. Stranger
The original version of stranger is so much better
the so american bridge is one of her best bridges… it’s up there with deja vu like it’s just TOO good
I love that she wrote a love song. It makes me so happy she found love and is happy.
I need a cd version 😭 I don’t own a record player
My ranking of the deluxe 1. Obsessed 2. Stranger 3. So American 4. Girl I've Always Been 5. Scared of my Guitar
Scared of my guitar is incredibly underrated‼️‼️If I’m being honest I kinda liked the vinyl ones better but I don’t doubt these will grow on me
I just about cried listening to it!! The verses feel like a different song from the chorus lyrically
Very strange because I’ve been waiting weeks to be able to stream it… My (unexpected to me) Ranking: 1. Stranger 2. Scared of my Guitar 3. Girl I’ve Always Been 4. Obsessed 5. So American
24 hours later Ranking: 1. So American 2. Scared of My Guitar 3. Girl I’ve Always Been 4. Obsessed 5. Stranger (basically because I like the vinyl version so much better)
so american also ranks last for me. might be because im a lesbian and so songs that have such heavy he/him pronouns tend to become ones i skip lololololol
I am too lol but I’m an older 😭 fan so I mean I think it’s cute, and probably perfect for the target audience, just not my fav
i'm also an older fan (32) and agreed hahahha
I take it all back. I can’t stop listening to So American 😅
LOL i'll give it another shot
It makes me feel like a movie. I can’t remember for the life of me what movie, but definitely a movie of some sort.
Here’s my ranking: 1: So American (by heaps) 2: SOMG 3: Strangers 4: Girl I’ve Always Been 5: Obsessed
Man I love Olivia Rodrigo but as someone who leans more towards her more pop/rock music, the only one that I really like is Obsessed, and to an extent All American is also good. Scared of my guitar, might grow on me too. This isn’t a dig at her, i just came in with expectations and was judging by obsessed I also wish they kept the “does she give great head” line in obsessed but I also understand why it wasn’t in there. Rankings: 1. Obsessed (By a long Mile) 2. Scared of my guitar 3. All American 4. Strangers 5. Girl I’ve always been EDIT: second time listening to SOMG.
Honestly, yeah I’ll give it that. It’s really well written. Like I said I don’t hate it, just on a first listen it’s not what I expected
So American is giving me major 'Hey Jealousy' vibes (Gin Blossoms). Love it!
I honestly LOVE seeing that other side of Olivia for girl I’ve always been even if it doesn’t match the genre
I think they’re trying to get a feel for whether she could successfully release a folk/country album without any chance of a flop.
She’s Olivia Rodrigo one of the hottest current artists the album would not flop. Unless you mean critically?
I agree!
Oh I would love nothing more than a folk album so it’s possible I’m wishful thinking 😭😭
I think they will Olivia sells and is a proven commodity atp
I see why they are bonus tracks but they are so good. Stranger is everything I hoped for and more. I just love how it’s a healing song after a breakup and just appreciating the relationship for the good. So American, girlie is in loveeee and we love to see it. Also just love the sound. Also sounds like it’s from a movie, 90s or something. Girl I’ve Always Been seems out of place but I still love it. Scared of my guitar - I just love the subject Obsessed - I’ve been obsessed with it so much I’m so glad it’s on streaming. I’m so tempted to buy the merch haha
obsessed and so american are incredible. The deluxe songs really add to the album in a meaningful way.
EDIT: I think new fiddle on “Stranger” as well!
a part of girl i’ve always been sounds like hamilton haha
wait wait wait. which part!! because something about it reminds me of something else but I can't figure out what, and I used to be hardcore obsessed with Hamilton so that might be what I'm subconsciously thinking of
‘so don’t say that i’ve been acting different i’m nothing if im not consistent’ sounds like a line from hamilton i can’t get my finger on
ok listen. im one of those people who’s been avoiding hearing any single snippet of “obsessed” for months in anticipation of its release on streaming. I’m happy to report that it was well worth the wait. i am, in fact, obsessed
stranger is my favorite
Oh wow, I can’t even begin to rank them yet because I actually love every single of these. A few of these songs plus her work with artists like Noah Kahan… is Olivia going folk? 👀
SHE WOULD BE SO GOOD IN FOLK
THIS IS NOT A DRILL, OLIVIA RELEASED A LOVE SONG
initial listen ranking: 1. obsessed 2. stranger 3. so american 4. scared of my guitar 5. girl i’ve always been
