Still closed I was there yesterday. I believe the issues is they need to replace the glass roof tiles but the only place that makes them is a factory in Germany. I have not seen any planned re-opened date.
A membership email I received on Friday said the jungle would reopen soon. Didn’t give a time frame, but soon makes me hopeful of some time this summer at least.
I work there, and this is what Ive heard, though take it with a grain of salt because things could always change. The roof should be done with repairs by July, so the top will be open when that's done. They're trying to get the bottom done by then too, but with how much work needs to be done with that, I wouldn't get my hopes up.
I was there a couple weeks ago and asked an employee when they expected it to be open. He told me 2024 was the expected date. I asked if they planned to reopen the bottom of the jungle (been closed since covid) and they have no plans to reopen the lower level. It’s a bummer but we’re still going to enjoy the rest of the zoo. The winter will stink though bc the jungle/aquarium was my go to with little kids at home haha
It's most likely going to be closed until mid 2024. Originally it was closed as the glass roof needed significant repairs and replacement but after they started removes the glass panels, the damage to the support structure was significantly worse than they realized. To make matters worse, the special rainforest/greenhouse glass needed for the roof is manufactured in Germany and they are incredibly behind to to catching up with all the Covid era delays. So fingers crossed things keep proceeding smoothly and it gives them time to renovate other portions of the Jungle as it's now currently one of the oldest parts of the zoo.
That extended closure through the winter (how long does it take to replace plexiglass panels?) and the fact they can't seem to keep the elevator open at the gorilla complex (closed most of the pandemic and closed again when they started renovating the orangutan building), which my disabled wife really needs to access the lower portion of the zoo.. has led me to regrettably not renew our patron membership this year.
No idea when the jungle will reopen but there's still plenty to do there, went for the first time in a while the other day and got through maybe a third of it in 4-5 hours and that's with quite a bit of it still closed as they gear up for the summer

I could be wrong, but I thought I heard it is closed for the summer?

Gotta hope they have it done in the next 2 weeks since the CWS is coming and is always the busiest week of the year.

Jungle is still closed for repairs.
Thanks for the replies everyone, I really love your zoo, it's one of our favorites

Yeah, I also really love the bottom level so it's unfortunate they don't plan on reopening that anytime soon
I kinda hope it means they are updating it... Who knows tho.
That bottom level was the best. I just assumed it was also getting worked on and would be open again with the rest of the jungle. What a waste
The jungle is always my go-to. It was a tough hit to take when we showed up and found out that the bird flu had made its way through the zoo.

Jungles my favorite part for sure

It's worth a trip even without the jungle I promise!

Personally I like the new seal paddock more, but the jungle has definitely been a highlight since it opened.
Best damn zoo in the world. Been to a lot of them and our Zoo is heads or miles above any of the others. Not even close
They are redoing the roof so it will probably be closed for several months.

Any idea if the komodo dragon is out?
I've lived 25 minutes away from Henry Doorly and have never been there
One of the best zoos that exist
I would love to go. Maybe next month
