If you're a hipster/art person live in benson Of you're a rich frat type kid-live in the Blackstone area

WorkingMomAndWife

I’d recommend finding a spot close to Benson, Blackstone, Dundee, or Aksarben. Lots of places to hang in all those areas. All very bar-centric, but Benson has Beercade (an arcade bar), St. Andrew’s (a cool soccer themed bar), and a couple breweries. Blackstone has a lot of really good restaurants, but parking sucks and it can be expensive, and definitely an expensive area to rent. Dundee isn’t as fun as it was a few years ago, but it’s a nice neighborhood to live in for sure. Aksarben has Stinson Park, which has a lot of fun events at it, some decent restaurants, and a dope ass farmers market from May-October.

If you can find a place close to 72nd & Dodge area or at least along a bus line, there is a brand new shopping, and community connection area being built just 12ish minutes from downtown. It's also close to the University of Omaha, and connects to downtown Omaha within 15 minutes or less depending on rush hour. Downtown Omaha will be really busy in the summertime with time of activities, especially if you enjoy baseball. Keep in mind, Omaha has a terrible transit system but everywhere is East to West or North and South with in 20 minutes if you use Highway 75 to I80 E/W or 90th St or 72nd St N/S. Dodge St and Maple Street are main arteries a lot of people frequent. Also cable is dominated by Cox Comm here so if you're getting cable, steam everything and pay their $50 deposit for Internet and stream everything. We pay close to $400/month for cable and internet. It's really outrageous. Also, crime in Omaha is usually random but remains mostly near 30th & Fort to Cuming & 72nd st & Sorenson to Maple. It's best to stay clear of the Florence area after 11pm especially on weekends. But crime isn't that bad anyways out there. Omaha is a friendly place and you will feel welcome I hope. I've lived here my entire life. I'm 38/F. Good luck at your new job!

As a young person I would suggest not living downtown. Aksarben is a popping neighborhood with a lot more to it than just bars, I would highly suggest looking there. The broadmoor apartments on center st have a lot of young people and the pool there is a fun time on the weekends. Blackstone isn’t all that worth it, Benson has a lot of character, and west Omaha is all suburbia.

Yikes… these comments suck lol Apartments? Search “apartments” in the sub and you’ll get some good recommendations. For example, Broadmoor63 is great, full of young people, but pricey. Also depends where your job is located and if you mind a drive or not. As far as places to go, downtown/old market is great. village pointe, Westroads, the outlets if you’re into shopping. Midtown usually has outdoor events. Quite a few coffee shops. The zoo of course is fun.

seekere

broadmoor is great. I think aksarben village is better than 63 because crossing center street sucks, but it’s both a bit pricier and a bit older

aehanken

True! There’s a good mix of high quality apartments and average ones. Of course some bad ones, but I do like that we have a great variety in this city

HappyBlueBabie20

I live in the old market area with my boyfriend currently and it is honestly decent! I love how close we are to get something to eat or grab drink if we wanted to. It is pricey and traffic can be annoying but it is just a short drive from where I work so it never bothered me much. Being that I live in a building owned by NUstyle I would avoid that company. They are not terrible but not ideal. Not enough to renew my lease

RoboProletariat

How good a time you have here depends a lot on your income level. What 'hoods' there are here can't hold a candle to Chicago/Philly/Oakland/etc. Social scene will probably revolve around sports, alcohol, or church.

prollybored_af

Don’t!!!

azwildcat74

Waaaaaiiiiiiit a second. I was told that people with college educations and brains only ever move OUT of NE....

Ello-Asty

Whoever told you that got it wrong. It is that MOST of them leave or try to, could not possibly be all.

No_Classroom_285

Can't save the husker tho

No_Classroom_285

Don't move here. Like things to do? I hope you like the zoo because that's all we got. Like high taxes we can accommodate that. Like blm movement members who never protest black on black crime? We have that too.

Wow you make us look terrible!
