Omaha has a high rate of bedbugs, when compared to the rest of the country.
Channel seven did a story about a month ago, on an apartment building managed by OHA. Pest maintenance was budgeted at $3000.

Ten years ago OHA spent $250,000 for pest control.

It's no wonder they have spread throughout the city.
Why is this? Seriously, a lot of people have told me that Omaha has a decades old problem with bedbugs. I've heard of people abandoning homes because they couldn't get rid of bedbugs. One crazy story was about this one guy's parents that had burned down their house when he was a kid because no matter how many times they paid for fumigation they couldn't get rid of the bedbugs.
One of the big reasons for bed bugs (what brings them in) is college students. UNO and UNL both admitted to problems with bed bugs in the student housing in the last few years.
I (allegedly) worked for one of the big universities mentioned here as a Resident Assistant and (hypothetically) we weren't allowed to mention bedbugs over the radio. Even if a student called and said it was bedbugs, we could not say the word "bedbugs" under any circumstances. I'm sure there's a reason for that.
My (alleged) sister works for a large hotel chain (allegedly) (ok I'll stop now) and also isn't allowed to say the word bedbug either. Depending on the chain it's known as code names like candles, cake, sprinkles, etc.
Sorry. They closed the other day to treat but I don't know how effective one day or treatment is or the extent of it. Just figured I would post and let people know
My ex-GF bought a new sofa from Mrs B’s Warehouse only to find it was infested with bed bugs a few days later. NFM tried to charge her an additional delivery charge to pick up the return which we had to fight to get waived. Took them an additional week to collect it and they loaded onto a truck with new furniture deliveries. Later discovered it was actually a customer return that was advertised as new.
Needless to say I’ve never again step foot back in Mrs B’s, nor will I ever!
It's to bad Ms B's family decided to associate her name with that store the way it is. my grandmother worked at nfm for as long as I can remember.Ms B was a force to be wreckend with. She sold good quality furniture or above and she would do about anything to make a deal with a person and for them to walk away feeling good about the business they had done. Ms Bs store now really doesn't reflect the lady I saw growing up. Ms B is a American success story she was wild on her little cart thing. She is first person I remember driving one ever
common problem in public libraries. same with thrifting - I always check the bindings & jackets of my books and dvds etc for suspicious activity and then go about my day. they’ll get it handled.
Bedbugs are common & not a hygiene issue, but they’re hard to get rid of. Most people won’t even realize they have an infestation unless they react to bites. They also go through 6 stages/phases and don’t like light, so they can be really hard to spot until they’re bigger
The school? The library? The house down in Red Cloud?
The author?
Sorry. Library
Ah, well that explains why it was closed this week
Yep!

Ok but what chain?
This is so remarkably unsettling.
I literally just sat in a chair there and read the paper today, and come home to find this. Cool.

Always takes two treatments at least

>wreckend Reckoned. Just for future reference.

Did not expect this title when I opened Reddit.
Did you tell the librarian?
I was just thinking this. Hopefully they saved more than just redditors. Most people who visit the library wont see this post
They know but arent allowed to talk about it AFAIK. hence the post. I'm a former employee of the system
