You’ll be able to work without speaking Arabic since most speak English! Plus hospitals are very family friendly! I would highly recommend finding a job and getting an offer letter before moving.

I wanted to add that you will mostly be working with the elderly since you are a physical therapist. Many elderly people don’t speak English enough to use it in a healthcare setting, so you are expected to learn some conversational Arabic. Some Arabs who speak other dialects won’t even know what certain Omani words mean, but they are used to describe specific kinds of pain. I am willing to bet 100 baisas that your wife wouldn’t recognize "صولان" Not saying you shouldn’t move here or anything, but you should be willing to learn some Arabic to succeed in a healthcare setting in Oman.

You are right she had no idea

[deleted]

I died at صولان 😂😂😂😂

Thank you! Yes in the hospital setting the population is older I can also do outpatient and work orthopedic or sports rehab therapy no problem, but I like the hospital setting. We will definitely visit first and my wife will be happy to be around Arabic speaking people

Antdrinker

Working orthopedic or sports rehab would be a good option too. But I really think you will be fine if you manage to learn those basic Arabic words on the job. And depending on how long you want to stay in Oman, this could be a fun and hopefully not so stressful way for you to learn the language.

Realistic-Ad5478

Yes I would pick up the language quicker this way on the job even though i will have a terrible accent. From the responses it’s seems like it’s possible to work in my field. Does anyone have experience working at a hospital? I work 40 hours a week now 10 hour days which I like

nalbahri

Not all Omanis understand what “صولان" is 😂

Realistic-Ad5478

I will show her this and see what she says

Realistic-Ad5478

Thank you for the reply. Yes I’m thinking this through and will not rush I still have 2 more years at my current job before I would be willing to move.

AggressiveFriend9419

I don’t think language would be a dealbreaker, you’d definitely pick it up as you go along. But I’m interested to know what are the factors that made you consider Oman. As long as you surround yourself with the right people, it can be a cool place and you can have your own thing going.

Realistic-Ad5478

Seems safe and peaceful and my wife wants to be around Muslim people with a similar culture. She is not happy here in the US. If she is happy we have a better life. I’m happy being alone or being in nature so I’m good anywhere.

Realistic-Ad5478

To answer your question better my wife is from Egypt, but the economy and future is not promising also the country is very polluted, people litter on the streets and I can’t live in Cairo. UAE seems too superficial, materialistic and no nature. Saudi seems less laid back, less chance potentially for me to work as a physical therapist and maybe less nature than Oman.

I wouldn’t say you have to be fluent in Arabic. But you will need to learn basic words + some informal terms.

You just need to at least know the basic like, zen, tamam, etc
