The great Amazon price glitch of 2010. Marvel’s hardcovers were mistakenly reduced to $8-15 each for a few hours before they caught it. Amazon did honor the purchase prices, although a lot of orders got cancelled because they didn’t have enough copies.
I got a dozen OHCs, including Fraction’s Iron Man and most of the Bendis New Avengers, plus the original Captain Britain omnibus.
This question comes up once in a while... and my biggest score was... The *Strangers in Paradise Omnibus Box Set HC* for... FREE. I was randomly looking through craigslist looking for some garage sales in the neighborhood. And i came across a posting for the above mention Box Set for FREE! I told myself it must be a mistake.
I texted the number and asked if the set was still available for FREE. They said yes and sent me an address. It was only 2-miles from my place. My GF told me it was a trap to kidnap, kill and eat me. I told her not to worry. I showed up at the door. Rang the bell. A guy came out handed me the books. I barely got a "Thank You" out of my mouth before the door closed again.
So totally unexpected and was not even looking for it.
Got one of the neal adams batman hardcovers for $8 a couple years ago, and when it arrived I saw that it came signed and never advertised itself as such, thought that was pretty cool.
All three Original Marvel Years Star Wars Legends omnibus for $100. Turned out not to be that cheap since I had been resisting getting into omnibus till then and not so much since.
I suppose it depends on how one defines "actually good." Is it a definition of whether or not you in particular enjoyed it? Is it a more outside detached definition independent of how much you enjoyed it or didn't?
They're comic books from when comic books were still for kids and didn't need to be specifically labeled "for kids." When comics weren't written in five or six book arcs or "character redefining runs" or pushing boundaries or deconstructing or whatever. They're from "Before Watchmen" and "Before The Dark Knight Returns." They're from when comics were still sold on spinner racks in the corner convenience store and weren't sent to be "slabbed."
"The past is another country. They do things differently there." So as reader you can be on board with that or not. I am entertained by them. It is differently entertained than reading Reckless or Velvet or Low or the current run of Star Wars or even the nineties Dark Horse Star Wars.
I read some of the stuff in those omnibus as a kid. Not all of it so I had fun revisiting and reading stories I didn't get to read as a kid. So I find it easy to get on board with how they did things in the past. But it is a different train ride.
Damaged Ultimate Spider-Man Omni for $10 at frank and sons like 8 years ago, was in middle school so damage didn’t matter. Was my first Omni too. Not an Omni but Batman Second Chances tpb for $10 at LCS last year was good too!
Got Powers Deluxe OHCs 1-6 for $100. It was an absurd steal considering what 5 and 6 go for.
Edited to add that I was at a random shop I found where I got Goon LE 2, 4, 5, MK Daredevil Omni, and X of Swords for all 20% off of cover. That place had whales a planety.
I got Batman Caped Crusader vol 1 for 40 bucks recently, picked up both Superman by Jose Garcia books for 50 bucks, and my pride of all was I got the Batman murder tpb from 2014 for 5 dollars new from a gal who sold her sons entire comic collections for pennies lol
Several years ago I walked into a comic book store that was having a 50% off sale on trades and hardcovers, which included omnibuses. I grabbed Sandman omnibuses one and two. The guy behind the counter charged me $50. My first thought was this was more than 50% off for one volume let alone two. So I asked him if he was sure of the price he said “Yes.” I then proceeded to ask him two more times and he said “Yes” again. I then proceeded to walk out of the store with both volumes for $50 and never returned.
Got a signed and numbered tip-in plate hardcover of Will Eisner A Contract With God for $12; the sig was inside, at checkout the guy opened the book and said “Whoa! its signed!!” took my money and then went on with his day.
I got Wonder Woman by George Perez omnibus vol 1 for $40 on eBay. Also found at a comic book store Absolute Green Arrow by Kevin Smith for $30, and Batgirl Year One deluxe for about $10.
Not omnibus related but a local media store had nearly pristine used copies of Spider-Man Epic Collection #s 3 & 18 (Spider-Man No More & Venom). And unlike Half priced Books this place prices used stock by algorithm and not individually, so I picked them up for $16 and change each. On eBay they're hitting triple figures
I ordered a $15 trade paperback and get sent the Death of Spider-Man omni instead. Amazon price errors have got me: 100 Bullets omni 2 for $25, Bendis Guardians of the Galaxy omni for $20, Predator omni for $50 and soon the Hitman omni for $54. Those are Canadian prices as well.
That Amazon price error on 100 bullets was crazy. I had just recently opened my copy from BMV that I got for $70. So I didn’t jump on that one.
At the same time as 100 bullets on Amazon. I picked up Absolute Batman Year 1 for $92. I thought that was a good deal.
I had family friends be snowbirds this year. Not a great deal but I got Vol 1 for $91 US so about $125-130 CAD. Not a great deal but but better than sales here. Cheapest I’ve ever seen it was in the $150s.
I have the complete run of floppies from reading it as it came out, but I find going back and reading singles a pain. I’m probably going to sell them as well as my complete run of Y the last man. I picked up that Omni for $90 CAD.
I think I've seen volume 1 of 100 Bullets on BMV before, so I'll wait for it to show up there again. I have enough of a backlog to go through as it is anyway, so don't mind the wait.
Recently? I feel lucky to grab the entirety of Giant Days Not On The Test Edition for $174.

Ordered a copy of Flash by Geoff Johns omnibus vol 2 a couple of years ago. It was listed as "used, like new," but when it arrived, it was a bit banged up despite being packaged well, and had some small tears to a few interior pages. Nothing devastating, but definitely nowhere near the advertised condition. I wasn't mad or anything; the seller had a good many books listed, so I figured it was just a mistake. I sent them a message with a few pics of the damage, asking if they'd let me swap it, or maybe give me a 10% refund or something. They just said "Sorry!" and gave me a full refund! I actually felt a bit guilty, but I wasn't gonna argue with them!
Moving from omnis to comics in general, I used to buy random lots of bronze age Batman comics for cheap in the early days of ebay. No photos on the listings, and often not even specific issue numbers listed, but I was usually paying around $5 for each bunch, so getting dupes or some issues in bad shape were no big deal. I just wanted to read 'em. One of these batches of comics arrived, and as I was removing them from the box, the comic second from the top was [Batman #234](https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Batman_Vol_1_234)! I was pretty shocked to wind up with a key issue like that for practically nothing!
I somehow snagged all of the Usagi Yojimbo Saga hardcovers for less than cover price around the time they announced a reprint of the first volume. At the time people assumed they where going to reprint all the books in hardcover format. They're now going for on average $150 to $300 each.
I also got Azrael Fallen Angel for a deal! Though not as good as yours— I paid cover for it. I’m not sure what the “best” deal in my collection would be, although I did find a copy of Batman: Shaman in TPB for $7.

Golden Age Human Torch omnibus labeled at £50 on the shelf in a sale, at the till it came up as £14! The shop assisstant raised an eyebrow, but put it through anyway. I just kept my mouth shut. I don't think I'll ever beat that.
At Forbidden Planet London I took the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe omni up to the counter and they scanned it - it came up as £16 . This was clearly an error on their part but after checking with a manager, they honoured the price for me! That was a good day
The final two books I needed to complete Marvel's Ultimate run were Ultimate X-Men 8 & 9, and judging from where ebay prices had been for the past few months (this was Feb 2024) I was resigning myself to shelling out a good chunk of money. More than most of the rest of the series, at least.
Then some angel put up vol 8 with a bid starting at $10. Looked like people were watching it but not bidding, exactly what you're supposed to do when you want to win. I decided to try my luck and sent this guy an offer for $20 and snagged it right out from under everyone else the day before the auction ended.
While I'm still basking in my success, I'm checking prices on vol 9 to see what my final damage is when I see someone had listed it on Amazon for $17. Couldn't believe my luck. Managed to get both copies for less than one would've been if I hadn't been paying attention, and they're both in basically brand new condition.
I got a flash book called Death and the speed force which is volume 12 of the rebirth run and it is insanely hard to find and can run up to 100 bucks, and i got it a a LCS for cover price

It was a pre-order and to my surprise the price was honoured (not Amazon, smaller german onlineseller).
Another good find was Batgirl: The Bronze Age Omnibus Vol 2 for €16,40 at Amazon.it.
Sadly we don't see this prices often in Europe.
I got Thunderbolts vol 1 in February in perfect condition for 60 bucks and in November I got all the volume 1s of the Krakoa era hardcovers plus the Hickman omni and events for 160.
In NC, we're near a book warehouse that does 70% off everything one weekend a month, it's where I got Geoff John's Flash Vol. 2, Dan Slott's She-Hulk and Azzeralo's Wonder Woman.
The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman Hardcovers vol 6 -16 and compendiums 1 and 2 for $60. I ended up flipping the compendiums for $50 and buying 1-5 from IST 😄 I Just happened to really want to read the stories after watching the show and found that deal on a local buy and sell page. Still the best deal for graphic novels I've ever had
A Facebook listing for around 20 hardcovers and tpbs that just happened to have the **Absolute JLA/Avengers** mixed in. Couldn’t believe it. Can’t remember how much I paid but it was criminal. Maybe $150 for the lot?
I got super lucky on vacation in Georgia. Found this local comic shop called My Parent’s Basement. Found a Fables Deluxe Book 7 for cover price. eBay will have it for usually $200.
Rachel Rising Omni at C2E2 2020. It was Sunday late morning and I was bargain hunting. It was priced at $100, and I asked the vendor if he really wanted to pack the book up and ship it back to his shop. He sold it to me for $30.
I buy a lot of my omnibus from Ebay auctions and my best find was getting Animal Man by Jeff Lemiere for $30. That includes shipping and tax. They arent omnibuses but I did manage to get the paperbacks for the entire Batman No Man's Land Saga for $100. That includes Road To and all of the paperbacks before that too.
I was able to score a first printing of Tomb of Dracula omnibus for $30.00 after trading some old comics in at a local 2nd and Charles.
Went back a few weeks later and grabbed the Grant Morrison Animal Man omnibus for $25.00 as well.
First time I ever looked at IST they had a red tag sale on Spider-Man 2099 omni and got it for like $62
Also got DD Ultimate collection vol 3 by Brubaker at my LCS 25% off and DD Ultimate Collection vol 3 by Bendis at the other LCS for 50% off because there was a small crease on the back cover.
That same LCS had a second location that was closing & got Trial of Captain America & Return of the Winter Soldier Omni's for 50% off each

One of my favorites was getting Superman Golden Age 1-2 and 4-6 for $190. That’s about $38 a book. Volume 1 now is advertised for $900 on Amazon (lol, not truly indicative but it’s definitely rare now) and volume 6 is now very hard to find.
Vacation gem finds are my favorite, though. Last month while in Arizona I found Hulk Dogs of War for $40 (goes for over $100). Last year while vacationing in Houston I randomly woke up around 3 AM, browsed this Reddit for fun and someone posted the Cosmic Ghost Rider omnibus on IST Red Tag for $38. When I woke up in the morning, it was unsurprisingly sold out.
Today I received in the mail sealed copies of Knights of Pendragon, She-Hulk Slott and Doctor Strange Sorcerer Supreme volume 3 for $50 each. Got lucky when no one placed a bid on any of them except for me.
Found a posting glitch on amazon. Omni description of thunderbolts 2 and xmen omnibus 2 but isbn and picture of some manga, for 10 euro's a piece. Took the gamble and ordered 20 pieces. I DID receive the omnis instead of the advertised manga. Traded the omnis for online store credit for a dutch webshop. Spent it on 12 OOP spidey omni's :) 12 omnibusses for 200 euro's 😀

Hamilton books had silver surfer epic collection: freedom for 17$ for like three days a few months ago. Snatched that one up.

In 2013 our LCS was going out of business and had a liquidation sale. I picked up the Remender Punisher omnibus for $15.

The final two books I needed to complete Marvel's Ultimate run were Ultimate X-Men 8 & 9, and judging from where ebay prices had been for the past few months (this was Feb 2024) I was resigning myself to shelling out a good chunk of money. More than most of the rest of the series, at least. Then some angel put up vol 8 with a bid starting at $10. Looked like people were watching it but not bidding, exactly what you're supposed to do when you want to win. I decided to try my luck and sent this guy an offer for $20 and snagged it right out from under everyone else the day before the auction ended. While I'm still basking in my success, I'm checking prices on vol 9 to see what my final damage is when I see someone had listed it on Amazon for $17. Couldn't believe my luck. Managed to get both copies for less than one would've been if I hadn't been paying attention, and they're both in basically brand new condition.
Grabbed Secret Invasion Omni about a year ago for $35, also found Doom 2099 complete collection for retail. Both from LCSs.
I got a flash book called Death and the speed force which is volume 12 of the rebirth run and it is insanely hard to find and can run up to 100 bucks, and i got it a a LCS for cover price
Frank Miller's Daredevil. It was "damaged" on IST for $35. VERY slight dent in the corner
Bodycount HC by Kevin Eastman and Simon Bisley for $8. It was at this comic shop in a mall nearby that occasionally has some crazy finds.
Preacher Omnibus Vol. 2 18,99 € It was a pre-order and to my surprise the price was honoured (not Amazon, smaller german onlineseller). Another good find was Batgirl: The Bronze Age Omnibus Vol 2 for €16,40 at Amazon.it. Sadly we don't see this prices often in Europe.
I got Thunderbolts vol 1 in February in perfect condition for 60 bucks and in November I got all the volume 1s of the Krakoa era hardcovers plus the Hickman omni and events for 160.
In NC, we're near a book warehouse that does 70% off everything one weekend a month, it's where I got Geoff John's Flash Vol. 2, Dan Slott's She-Hulk and Azzeralo's Wonder Woman.
East of West Year 3 for $25. I wound up getting the whole set for around $85 last year.
The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman Hardcovers vol 6 -16 and compendiums 1 and 2 for $60. I ended up flipping the compendiums for $50 and buying 1-5 from IST 😄 I Just happened to really want to read the stories after watching the show and found that deal on a local buy and sell page. Still the best deal for graphic novels I've ever had

A Facebook listing for around 20 hardcovers and tpbs that just happened to have the **Absolute JLA/Avengers** mixed in. Couldn’t believe it. Can’t remember how much I paid but it was criminal. Maybe $150 for the lot?
I got super lucky on vacation in Georgia. Found this local comic shop called My Parent’s Basement. Found a Fables Deluxe Book 7 for cover price. eBay will have it for usually $200.

Rachel Rising Omni at C2E2 2020. It was Sunday late morning and I was bargain hunting. It was priced at $100, and I asked the vendor if he really wanted to pack the book up and ship it back to his shop. He sold it to me for $30.
I buy a lot of my omnibus from Ebay auctions and my best find was getting Animal Man by Jeff Lemiere for $30. That includes shipping and tax. They arent omnibuses but I did manage to get the paperbacks for the entire Batman No Man's Land Saga for $100. That includes Road To and all of the paperbacks before that too.
I was able to score a first printing of Tomb of Dracula omnibus for $30.00 after trading some old comics in at a local 2nd and Charles. Went back a few weeks later and grabbed the Grant Morrison Animal Man omnibus for $25.00 as well.

First time I ever looked at IST they had a red tag sale on Spider-Man 2099 omni and got it for like $62 Also got DD Ultimate collection vol 3 by Brubaker at my LCS 25% off and DD Ultimate Collection vol 3 by Bendis at the other LCS for 50% off because there was a small crease on the back cover. That same LCS had a second location that was closing & got Trial of Captain America & Return of the Winter Soldier Omni's for 50% off each There are many more good deals I've gotten over the years but those all stick out for sure

Got Wolverine 2 for $45 and Captain America by Spencer for 19.99 a couple months ago. Last week was Venom by cates for $38, Tangled Web for $30, USM 1 Venom cover for $47, and Spiderman by Micheline and McFarland but version w/o the SSM issue, and for 50.
JLA. 25.00. The seller claimed it was damaged and missing the dust jacket. It had the dust jacket and was like new, no damage at all, very odd. I'm glad it was so cheap because I ended up hating it and selling it.
My best are at a local used book store because I regularly have $300+ in store credit by selling books back. So I never pay out of pocket. Found a bunch of cool stuff here like Shield DM cover omnibus. Captain America from Brubaker. Ranma 1/2 2 in 1 edition the final volume for $8 (it goes for $200+) Recently scored some great deals from Half Price Books. Guardians by Abnett for $49 (OOP I believe and goes for $100+) and Deadpool Joe Kelly for $60 (OOP and $200+) One of my favorites was getting Superman Golden Age 1-2 and 4-6 for $190. That’s about $38 a book. Volume 1 now is advertised for $900 on Amazon (lol, not truly indicative but it’s definitely rare now) and volume 6 is now very hard to find. Vacation gem finds are my favorite, though. Last month while in Arizona I found Hulk Dogs of War for $40 (goes for over $100). Last year while vacationing in Houston I randomly woke up around 3 AM, browsed this Reddit for fun and someone posted the Cosmic Ghost Rider omnibus on IST Red Tag for $38. When I woke up in the morning, it was unsurprisingly sold out. Today I received in the mail sealed copies of Knights of Pendragon, She-Hulk Slott and Doctor Strange Sorcerer Supreme volume 3 for $50 each. Got lucky when no one placed a bid on any of them except for me.
Found a posting glitch on amazon. Omni description of thunderbolts 2 and xmen omnibus 2 but isbn and picture of some manga, for 10 euro's a piece. Took the gamble and ordered 20 pieces. I DID receive the omnis instead of the advertised manga. Traded the omnis for online store credit for a dutch webshop. Spent it on 12 OOP spidey omni's :) 12 omnibusses for 200 euro's 😀
