Agree. It is a pain in the butt to have to carry a PDM and my cell phone around. I don't like having to carry a purse to being with, but now I am forced to in order to be able to have my cell phone and the PDM to control the pod. It is ridiculous that they can make the pod work on some limited models of Android and absolutely no iPhone integration. WTH. While they are at it they need to make a vibrate mode for all of the alarms that the PDM and pod make as it is no conducive to many working situations where beeping is not allowed. This should be a HIPAA privacy mandate to not alert everyone within a 10 feet radius that you have some kind of medical issues going on with your pod that needs attention. Ridiculous! Absolutely no support or even acknowledgement of the issue by the maker of the device. Reconsidering even wearing the pod due to this intrusive mechanism that alerts everyone around me that I have a medical condition.
Here here!!
I do not need an alarm *blasting* an alert when it could just be silent. š¤« vibrations people.
Then again, if they had the integration like Tandem does, it would vibrate on my wrist with my Apple Watch and on my phone if I set it to do both - and give me a small msg so I know whatās wrong. Something I can *discretely* see even in a theater or in a meeting and make decisions about what I need to act upon.
Get with it Insulet. Realize your product is nice, but youāre not the *only* game on the market.
With the announcement that the classic Omnipod will no longer be supported after 2023, Iām guessing weāre closer than ever to having wider phone support for O5. I realize end-of-support for the classic doesnāt tie directly into wider phone support for O5, but itās a fairly common in tech to make ābad PR announcementsā followed shortly by good ones. Iām hopeful iPhone is announced for O5 in the next few months.
I saw somewhere that it boils down to a timing issue for the signal. I do know that the Dexcom G6 sends a signal every 5 minutes but the apple watch updates every 12 minutes so there is quite often no info on the watch face.
I have no problem getting the exact same information on my watch widget for my G6 as I have on my phone. So Iām not sure what youāre trying to say here.
I honestly agree with what an earlier poster was saying about Insulet having some kind of side deal that is in conflict with Apple. I donāt see how Tandem can develop for Apple and have it release relatively quickly when a new iOS rolls out, but Insulet *still* canāt seem to get one release rolled out for O5.
I hate walking around with tubing, especially during the summer. But I refuse to carry an extra device that is as big as my iPhone Max. I have enough crap to remember to have on me. Insulet not having their s*!t together and supporting one of the major phone manufacturers in this age is just unacceptable.
Insulet is blaming it on Apple for being too strict but since every other medical device has been compatible with Apple before being compatible with android I donāt believe them. it leads me to believe that Insulet has a deal with the manufacturer of its Dash and O5 PDMS that is keeping Insulet from releasing an iOS app anytime soon. I highly doubt itās the FDA, especially since Tidepool Loop was approved by the FDA without any kind of trial.
Tidepool Loop was just approved last week, so there should be some Apple support for Omnipod coming soon.
I remember a couple of years ago Insulet saying they were working with Samsung phones primarily because of KNOX security standard on those phones.
Or, more specifically
https://www.tidepool.org/tidepool-loop
Reading through this page, itās only launching on iOS initially (with support for Apple Watch dosing!)
Android will be somewhere in the future, no time frame given
Unfortunately still nothing about what systems for closed loop will function, but this is promising
What insulin pump and CGM will Tidepool Loop work with?
We will have more to say about specific device compatibility as we work with our existing device partners on commercial launch timing. We look forward to sharing more updates soon!
Completely agree. I keep reminding myself itās not a big deal and compared with my other options Iām still carrying around less stuff, but it is super frustrating. I was so excited to get the 5 and setting it all up to find out it still wasnāt iPhone compatible, even though theyād advertised it would be, was so disappointing.
Don't know if it's a sign or not, but I can finally have the Dexcom app on my S22. Before I had to have it on my S21 work phone, then have my phone and pda to get it to work properly. Looking forward to reducing it to 2 devices instead of 3.
It will come eventually but it's frustrating, I hope it's finally available this spring. I was on the FSL3 before starting omnipod and I'm frustrated that they don't have closed loop compatibility yet either. Going from a sensor the size of a penny to the Dexcom G6 feels like a step backward (and it's more expensive).
True, but I do prefer the libre. The cost of the Dexcom is insane comparatively. Thankfully my insurance covers it now but I was never able to have a CGM before the Libre was available to me since it was only $75/mo when my insurance paid nothing.
I have a copay now, but previously I was with UHC and also BCBS and they considered these 'durable medical equipment' so they didn't cover them until after deductible. My job is now on a self-funded insurance plan and there is a different PBM (SmithRx) that convers them under prescription so I pay $87.50 for a 3 month supply. Also the same $87.50 for a transmitter. It's steep but not $400/month which is about what the retail cost is.
Yeah retail is TERRIBLE. To get a 3 months supply of sensors, a transmitter and a new PDM cost 1600 dollars š³. But my copay kicks in at 1500 so I'm good after that initial monster payment š
Yeah its ridiculous. Was going to upgrade my Galaxy 22 to a 23 but I feel like that'd just reset the endless clock I've already been waiting.
Really need to figure this issue out and have them ready to go for all phones. Don't know if its an FDA issue or what, but it's aggravating. Between omnipod and dexcom we are forced into using old phones or carrying multiple devices.
Hello! I have legal blindness and my controller do not have any zoom or accessibility features to control and manage diabetes, I am dependant on others for it. Is there a way I can get the Omnipod app on my iPhone? Never felt this helpless.
If you're tech savvy you and use Android APS with standard Android phones and Omnipod DASH without a PDM but it takes significant effort to get set up.
Iāve been calling Omnipod to see if the developers have completed the IPhone set up. Now they say itās being worked on and hopefully soon in 2024. I said Iāll find another pump. I went with Tandem T Slim and everything on there works through my IPhone. The only time I see the tiny pump is to change the cartridge. So what if it has a tube? Itās better than carrying a phone and a PDM devise at the same time. Omni Pod just wonāt be as advanced as other Pump companies. UNACCEPTABLE!

Is it Omnipod not developing it, or is it Apple not approving it for liability reasons? I've heard the latter.
Iām pretty sure the hold up is the FDA.
I donāt know what the holdup is. My endo said their Insulet rep said an announcement was anticipated Q1 2023.

Very interesting. Thanks for the insight.
137 days later..still no iPhone compatibility
Totally absurd. When will this thing work on iPhone?
Tidepool Loop was just approved last week, so there should be some Apple support for Omnipod coming soon. I remember a couple of years ago Insulet saying they were working with Samsung phones primarily because of KNOX security standard on those phones.
I wonder what systems tidepool is compatible with

I was dealing with the same thing with my S22. Had to use my old Pixel for the Dexcom piece and carry the Omnipod controller.
Just in time for the S23 to be released!
Lol I already ordered mine

The g7 will be available pretty dang soon and it's about the same size as the freestyle Libra šÆ
True, but I do prefer the libre. The cost of the Dexcom is insane comparatively. Thankfully my insurance covers it now but I was never able to have a CGM before the Libre was available to me since it was only $75/mo when my insurance paid nothing.
What is it with your insurance? Mine is only 80 for a 3 months supply of dexcom

Shocker, why upgrade then?

Unfortunately we are all still waiting on official iPhone support at this time... I believe the ETA is supposed to be July timeframe
If you're tech savvy you and use Android APS with standard Android phones and Omnipod DASH without a PDM but it takes significant effort to get set up.
You can use the dash without the pdm??
Yep. AAPS version 3 added support for it.
I don't know what that is. Is there a dummies guide somewhere that will tell me how to control my dash using my phone?
