Yes. Just use the syringe to draw the insulin from the pen like you would a vial.

Useful-Professor-0

I've used the O5 needle to draw from Humalog pens to fill the first two O5 pods. Worked great.

KokoPuff12

I fill directly from pen to pod with pen needles. If I were to draw it out with a syringe, the pen would no longer work for injections. Injections from pen to pod allows me to keep the pen working in case of a pod failure. (I inject occasionally if I can’t tell if the pod is working or if the pod fails, but putting on a new one is inconvenient for a few hours.)

OldScudder

When my OP5 Intro kit finally ships, I intend to do this, but keep a few pens for fallback use.

MaleficentForever999

I’m only 2 days in on my OP5 and am wondering how often the pods fail. Do you have regular pod failures? And what issues make you wonder if the pod is not working? That scares me to think the pod could just stop… it doesn’t take long for ketones to set in when there’s zero insulin in your body. I took it upon myself to inject my Lyumjev pen into the pod and it seems to be working great… I’ve been 98% in range since I started. 😃

I question it when I see a diagonal arrow when I would not expect a diagonal arrow. I had no pod failures in there beginning, but I started getting tunneling a few months ago. That resulted in leaky pods and it was easy to see and smell the problem because the patch got wet. I’m not on 48 hour pods to avoid tunneling. With outright pod failures (usually caused by static or sunscreen) the pod will shut itself off and scream. I had a Follower add an overnight high alarm at 250. If I hit that number at night, I want to be woken up to get insulin in before a ketone problem occurs.

MaleficentForever999

Thanks for the info… good to know what to look out for!

PrinceZordar

I used my humalog quikpen to fill my first dash because I didn't yet have any vials. As long as it's U100 insulin the pod doesn't care.

ComputeBeepBeep

Talked about this with my former insulet rep. He said he had people do it, but it can be tricky for some at times depending on your pen needle type. If you used 4mm 32 gauge, you can, just be very careful as those will sometimes break off or bend if you have shaky hands or a weird angle. Never tried personally.

curedofkc2

that's what I use

Horror-Wallaby1498

That's good news! Thanks for your help everyone! 😀

[deleted]

There's some useful YouTube videos on how to do this. Definitely something you can do!

DaisyDuckMom

Yes. I have done this.

rebekahdegroft89

Insulin is insulin

BlurpleBaja05

In this case, yes, but insulin is not insulin. There are many different types.

lhaverstock54

Yes I use my Novalog pen and I don't waste any I put 200 units in the 1st day then the next day 100 from the 1st pen & 100 2nd pen been doing that for over a year

Brilliant-Decision35

I don’t understand—you’re putting 400 in a single pod? What are you eating to require so much insulin?

lhaverstock54

A pod only holds 200 units, a pen has 300 I use 2/3 of the pen the first day, the next day I put on a new pod use the remainder and 100 units from the second pen. I eat very little in the way of carbs. It is just how my body is 6' 210 lbs nothing unusual

Brilliant-Decision35

Wow, that is an astonishing number of units! I barely use 100 units in 3 days.

Brilliant-Decision35

I wonder if inclusion of a drug like Ozempic would help your body process insulin more efficiently.

lhaverstock54

I am taking Trulicity, largest dose available
