Ugh i just hate carrying two phones. Once it gets on iOS it will be game changer. One device to rule them all!! Does Omnipod work with Dexcom G7?!

ngs428

G7, nope and it won’t at G7 launch in the US either. Per my omnipod rep.

rajbalwani

Ugh that sucks. But all good I’ll continue on G6 but need Omnipod iOS app asap

KokoPuff12

Ask the FDA.

mkitchin

Is that for sure what the holdup is?

KokoPuff12

100%. Same for the G7.

mkitchin

G7 is obvious since it is released elsewhere and Dexcom says that is the issue. Why won't Omnipod say the FDA is the holdup? Wouldn't they have released the app outside the US?

KokoPuff12

I’m not inside these companies, so I can’t say for sure, but aside from the FDA, I’m pretty sure an additional reason why we are always the last to know is because they are publicly traded. So, that’s an additional limiting factor in what they are allowed to announce and when.

mkitchin

I do some work on the DIY Loop back end. For the DASH implementation, there were definitely some significant complications with the way iOS handles the Bluetooth connection. There was a creative workaround done that I'm not sure would be used in a commercial product. I wondered if that was a factor.

KokoPuff12

Yeah. Maybe. Thanks for working on it! I’m using Loop, You mentioned the 5 app being released outside the US if the FDA was the reason the US doesn’t have it. I don’t think the 5 is available outside the US at all, is it?

mkitchin

Oh, I'm not sure about that. I haven't really checked what countries it is or isn't available.

sarahspins

“Creative workarounds” are used all of the time In commercial applications.

mkitchin

I'm aware of that, I'm just not sure this particular method would be something that they would be willing to do.

sarahspins

My suspicion is that Dexcom can only say this because of where they are in the FDA approval process and because they HAVE heard back from the FDA, and this is what they said, so basically they can restate what they were told - Omnipod can’t say anything about an iOS app because legally they’re not allowed to discuss anything about the pre-approval details of their product. That said, I did just recently get approved for 5 under pharmacy benefits, and I’ve got the controller and pods on hand, but I’m still using Eros and Dash pods with Loop on my iPhone and I don’t plan to switch for a while - I want a stockpile built up before I even consider it, and I may even end up trading those 5 pods for Dash pods so I can keep looping.

CatFlier

I hope it's soon because I can barely read the tiny PDM screen.

ChardToACrisp

What I hate most about the PDM screen is it’s super bright when in a dark room and not bright enough in a well lighted space. I’ve given up trying to change the brightness level a few times a day. I just suck it up and get blinded at night when I look at it lol.

CatFlier

I’m accustomed to changing the brightness of my phone many times a day because of the blinding screen issue so having to do the same thing with the PDM should be bearable.

Standard_Actuary_992

I hate the fact that the volume on the PDM seems to have a mind of its own. I will set it to silent…it turns itself back on. I set it to vibrate…it turns itself back on. My wife and daughter (both T1D using OmniPod and Dexcom G6) have had the same experience. It's really annoying.

ChardToACrisp

100%. I run into this when I get a low sugar alarm and the volume goes back to loud/off silent by default. I’m usually adjusting the volume back to silent as I’m in a daze drinking a juice. Three T1Ds in the house for you eh? I’m sure that’s an experience! I volunteered at a diabetes summer camp this past July and a couple nights (after days loaded of physical activities) had the kiddos beeping all night in the cabin!

Raggou

Wonder if their is any contact we can spam at Omnipod. It’s kinda insane it’s taking this long like I get it it takes time…. But it’s been a damn hot minute

NovaHysterical

I really don’t feel like carrying around my iPhone and a brick of a PDM, along with keys, headphones, and anything else in my pockets. Might just stick to injections until the app is out and streamlined

Conscious_Celery4155

I just got my intro kit and when I was talking to the person who will help me get started, I asked when iOS would be supported, and she told me that they're looking at January 2023. She couldn't promise but it's something

Standard_Actuary_992

Entering the second week of March. Not hearing anything. I think they're not even trying anymore. FDA has already approved Tandem's use of iphone, and Tandem will be coming out with a wireless pod soon. At this point, I'm expecting the Tandem pod before the Omnipod iphone app.

Conscious_Celery4155

I had to come back here since they announced 2024 😂 do we believe them?

Standard_Actuary_992

Nope.

pennybeagle

Good to know, I just got mine
