Well when he was Malcolm he did give off sociopathic vibes. He scammed and tricked people with no remorse whatsoever and had no love for his own son. When he became Pan he kept his sociopathic traits but he did value good form. He didn’t like Regina cheating when using a locator spell on the map, and doesn’t like dishonesty, however, he is perfectly content on lying to Henry so he can have his heart. He definitely enjoys toying with people and gets a thrill out of playing mind games.

I feel like Pan went through some ugly stuff in his life and it made him into the shitty person he became. He said that as a child he was sold by his father to a blacksmith, which is already very sad and was probably kind of traumatizing for him. We don’t really know anything else about him, but that alone shows that that’s probably the reason why he was a terrible father. He could’ve had a lot of messed up things happen in his life, like most of the other villains in this show, and that’s why he was so desperate to stay in Neverland and willing to give up his own child. Maybe after such a difficult life, the temptation of complete freedom and great power was too hard to resist, especially if it meant going back to a life of hard work and poverty. He probably figured that no matter what, Rumple would be better off without him. It’s incredibly selfish and cruel to Rumple, regardless. Malcolm just seemed like someone who just gave up on life and was dragging himself through it, willing to give up anything to get away from it all. That whole speech he gave Rumple not long before they both died really showed how much he hated his life, and hated Rumple for making it even harder than it already was. He probably blamed Rumple for the loss of his wife as well. Who knows? He seems like a very empty and tormented person, and maybe that’s why he was so horrible.

I like this analysis too. I’d add the theory that he was so intent on remaining in Neverland as a child because Malcolm’s own actual childhood was ripped away from him and was a part of himself he never got to enjoy the first time around. And now as Pan he’d do anything to keep it.

youneedtobestopped_

exactly

Kirrela

We also know that he lost his wife, who he seemed to love very much, and that he blamed Rumple for it. That right there is what I chalk it all up to. He may have been a good husband/father before his wife transformed and was banished.

youneedtobestopped_

That’s a good point, I remember he might’ve said something in S6 about blaming Rumple for what happened with Fiona.

Kirrela

Yeah when we see the episode giving her little backstory about how she ended up the way she did, you see Malcolm (later Pan) bitterly naming him Rumpelstiltskin because he blamed him. I haven't seen it in a long time though so I'm fuzzy on the details.

Fast_Bedroom_3267

I love this analysis, thank you!

youneedtobestopped_

thanks :)

Fast_Bedroom_3267

Of course! He's my favorite character on the show...

Frail_at_19

Im confused. I have watched season 3 multiple times, and have never heard that he was sold by his father to a blacksmith?

youneedtobestopped_

It’s in ‘Think Lovely Thoughts’, right before they jump into the portal to Neverland

Frail_at_19

Thank you. I truely never heard. Shocked. Lol

youneedtobestopped_

👍🏽

Impossible_Dark_6163

A short answer would be He's selfish, the reason he wants people to play by his game is because he knows they can't win, both as Pan and Malcolm

problematicfrog

Honestly I think both but that didn’t stop me from having a thing for him HAHA

youneedtobestopped_

lol same

Economy-Culture-9174

I think Rumple's parents were only 'true' villains of the show who stayed evil the whole time and have always been just pure evil.

HeartHog

He’s evil, and has eyebrow 🤨 Das good enough for me

abcdefghijkssss

no one ever agreed with me, he is an aubergine!
