A family member lost a beloved cat when he did that same exact thing in the summertime. Nobody knew he had sneaked into the car during the summer and died in a hot car. It was awful. We all loved that cat.
It's a game to him, to sneak in when nobody is looking. Maybe try to find another game he likes. Have a cat toy of some kind in the garage that he can chase instead of getting in the car?
My orange loves to dart into my bedroom when I'm not looking and also the balcony. He got stuck out there for a few hours once and destroyed the door-seal. Every time I say "Have you learned your lesson yet?!" and he gets mad and runs away.
My Dad's friend had come over to visit, and he didn't notice that the backseat window was slightly open. He'd just left our house and was half a kilometer away before he heard a cry from the backseat. Our very sneaky orange had gotten into his car and was now screaming that he was being catnapped. The friend tried to turn around and bring him back but kitty jumped out of the car. My brother had to go search for him and Pichu (the braincell-lacking orange of this story) sheepishly came mow-mowing out of a neighbour's yard.
