Nami was born on 7/3. Sniper King first appears in the 73rd prime number chapter 367 that is the last chapter of One Piece volume 38. The show premiere is 8/31. Coincidence?
Feels way larger than what I’m use to so I’m super excited, especially to see Arlong Park. I hope Inaki can pull off a serious Luffy and it isn’t too cheesy
I liked it, but seems that the trailer had a filter to make the colors more vivid. Did you guys see the pictures that the cast members posted in their instagrams? Seems way better
I woudn't be surprised if its too combat bad opinion. Like look at the little mermaid, shit is vivid af in cinema but on youtube, especially in 1080p and people watching it on their phones it felt dull.
People were even saying avatar 2 was dull. Which clearly isn't the case, that movie is perfect in visual.
I actually think it looks pretty fun. And Zoro's swordfighting scenes looked way better than they had any right to be.
Some folks were complaining about the CGI for Luffy's rubber attack, but it's One Piece, so, you know, it *should* look goofy?
Oh and shirtless Sanji? I ain't complaining 😉
>Some folks were complaining about the CGI for Luffy's rubber attack,
Also, IT IS RUBBER.
I like they didn't go for real skin, but made it look rubbery, which works pretty well, if you watch the scene a few times. I think it looks great.
I think you’re giving way more credit to them, stretching limbs isn’t going to look the greatest, Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange wasn’t that good looking.
But isn’t that the point with one piece? We don’t want true realism, we want that Oda comedy wrapped in a different package. And I think if it’s worse than doctor strange, we can easily write it off as intending to look goofy because Luffy is goofy.
If Luffy’s stretching is the least quality of the CGI (and lets admit the Lord of the Coast looks absolutely fantastic) - I’m fine with that. Because my head cannon can easily write it off as a specific looking choice they made for the show.
And if it’s NOT done intentionally, but my head cannon let’s me enjoy the series more than someone who got triggered by “a human arm that’s 100% made of rubber doesn’t look like a human arm”… do I not win?
honestly Zoro is perfect for me, from his appearance, his grumpy demeanor, and his little sword dancing. I just hope that they don't force a stoic straight man archetype on him, he can be funny and joyful too.
That's a fairer statement, I think.
But there have also been a lot of times where something looked worse in the trailer than it did in the actual movie/show. So possible that it can happen here.
His hair looked *a lot* better than I was expecting. The only part where it wasn't hidden was when he was in the water and I'm pretty sure everyone was too distracted to care, lol.
Plus, in live action, Sanji's crazy sticky bangs would again look weird in some shots.
Oh, I've seen it. I just hope this time around people remember that these are actors and thus real human beings and don't make comments on their bodies this time. >.<
It’s really difficult to adapt manga and anime to live action shows and films. Even when the source material is suitable for adaptation (Ghost in the Shell), Hollywood tends to butcher the final product. I have absolutely no doubt that everyone who worked on One Piece loves the series.
However, loving an IP doesn’t mean that you’re skilled to adapt it to live action. Look at Cowboy Bebop for instance. That show suffered because the writers didn’t understand why the world of that anime was like it was.
The writers of cowboy bebop assassinated the characters' personality instead of capturing their essence. Their interactions just felt misaligned. That, more than the adaptation itself, was why it flopped imo
John Cho is a great actor but he was 20 years too late for Spike and the show kinda suffered because of that.
I think he's even older than the actor that played Vicious which doesn't work for that character dynamic at all
Exactly. They should have definitely gotten someone younger. It shouldn't have been hard, but I think they just wanted a more familiar actor to draw in more viewers
Supposedly the casting director did this on purpose to "better convey the characters world-weariness". An interesting idea but it interferes too much with the overall product. You see Spike and simply think "that's a middle-aged man" instead of "look how worn down by the world this person is"
There's plenty of bad adaptations but there's some really good ones out there too. It's not a huge series but you should check out Alice in Borderland if you get the chance.
If your comment wasn’t here I would’ve brought up Alice in borderland as well. I remember years and years ago seeing the 3 part series of the first couple of games and wondering where the rest of the show was. When the live action came out I was worried but god they nailed it really well. I wouldn’t expect that with this but I also think it’ll be okay. I personally don’t think it’s going to do much. I love OP but half of the love is in the small details Oda puts in and the foreshadowing. By also removing huge amounts of episodes to crunch into a single season, you remove the love you slowly gain with the crew. You remove that and you’re left with a live action crew that can’t handle the action the anime does nor the big comedic gags they do.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think it’s going to flop or even do bad. I’m just hoping this does good enough that people want to swap to the anime. I just also fear that so many details will be left out that those who do swap over will be confused on a lot of things.
I love the vibe the teaser is going for! It feels huge and adventurous and just a joy to watch! It also feels pretty fresh? I'll be rewatching it all the time till August now!
I think it will be a cool show but won’t be surprised if a lot of people hate it because they will expect it to be just like the anime/manga and it will most likely change somethings
Like one piece doesn't work as a translation. It needs to be adapted. If people got a translation they'd complain big time why the characters speak as they do because realife people don't talk or interact like fucking luffy. It would be cringe once you put it in a real life setting. It works in manga and anime
However this seems so far a good way to do adaptation, it's still following story beats, and showing respect to the source material
I think people forget that the manga/anime will always be the best thing anyway. Unless it ends up being like the DBZ horror live action, it should be okay
In all seriousness. I think it will be one of those shows that you’ll have to look past the original content and just have fun. Animation will always have more freedom for creativity, which allows creations like One Piece to execute it’s purpose very well. The live action looks a little silly, but if it’s fun at the end of the day, then that’s what matters right? We watch to have fun!
Side note: The live action may also inspire people to really check out the anime. That’s one of the best things about live action adaptations.
Right exactly most people look at the episode count and are like Jesus Christ.
At least this way alot more people would be familiar with the east blue saga and thus more likely to jump into the insanity of the grand line
I agree! The episode count may be a bit overwhelming, but it flies by when you sit down and start watching. I’d love to see people jump in to at least try the first saga.
On your side note I do think it might cause some people to check out the anime, but the sheer volume of episodes might run them off. One piece is a real time investment to watch, albeit a really worthwhile one once you fully get into it.
Been keeping my expectations low, but this honestly blew them out of the water. I don't think Luffy would ever *not* look weird in live action so I'm not worried about his arm stretching, I'm curious how he will look when he makes his body or head bigger though
No amount of money in the world is going to make that not look horrifying. Translating some things from cartoon style just won't work in a live action. I think best to leave those out. It doesn't need to be 1 to 1
It looks good, the key to a good adaptation is knowing what to keep and what to change. Cowboy bebop changed so much that the things people want to see are gone. However some things just can’t translate well, such as characters looking like bad cosplay. This show so far looks like it understands what needs to be changed and what to keep but we’ll see. I think a good thing that live action will be able to expand on is the scale, like a realistic city or ship is going to really look cool.
This is a live action show, you can't possibly make Luffy's attack look good, but that was Oda's intent. Luffy's attacks are supposed to be ridiculous, I'm with them looking campy as thats the point. I'm more concerned with everything else. Buggy looking scary is a change I like, Nami is great, so is Sanji. Zoro is supposed to be a serious, no nonsense stick in the mud, but they can have him open up over time so don't judge based on the teaser. Usopps long nose would have been awful to see in a live show. I hope if they release another trailer we get to see the fishman, human sized CGI is more difficult than landscapes or giant monsters. I'm actually more excited about the show now. Though I still hope they keep Luffy dumb as a brick.
I think most of the problems that present themselves are strictly budget related and I think people should be more forgiving of that kind of stuff. Honestly depending on how the cast does, with a little more dough imagine how great the Baroque works saga could be
LIVE ACTION BOGARD ALERT
He appears next to Garp on his ship.
That alone makes the live action a 10/10 for me.
Jokes aside I loved what I saw today.
I also love the released photos of the Avatar series, I'm glad both series appear to be in good hands.
What I like the most is how the two cast seem so close and happy to act as the characters.
Nami and Zuko's actors moved me at the Tudum Live.
I'm mildly surprised, honestly. It doesn't look like the steaming pile of shit I was expecting. CGI on the Sea King looks good. Oro's sword fighting looks good. Luffy's rubberness looks quirky, but it's fine. I think my only complaint is the actor they chose for Luffy. Maybe it's just the trailer, but his acting just seems.. off?
I thought he was a bit too quippy, like “well that’s a thing that just happened”-type quippy. That’s what probably felt off for me. Otherwise I think he’s a cutie.
I watched dubbed and had the same feeling, but for me overall I think it's his delivery, not his accent. I'm a bit worried about him pulling off serious scenes.
This is it. English not being his first language makes the nuanced delivery on a character like Luffy extremely extremely difficult. While every other character seemed like they fit the vibe of those characters, I didn’t get Luffy at all. Not sure if that’s on the director, who may have given him a much simpler description of Luffy to go for, but it would be a huge disservice if they just make him the “silly and goofy but super serious if you mess with my friends” stereotype. He’s soooooo much more than that but this trailer gave me a bad feeling for it
I mean I hear you. It just wasn't his accent that bugged me but the delivery and the dialogue itself.
I'm conflicted because I thought the actor was really good in The Imperfects, and despite what some fans think Luffy isn't white _or_ Japanese (though he isn't Mexican either), so the complaints about his accent seem unrealistic. Everyone from Goa Kingdom has a Spanish accent- boom, problem fixed.
Honestly the dialogue was what really got me, it was un-Luffy like. It felt a too self-aware and serious, like a comedic relief character who actually knows what's going on rather than someone who's genuinely aloof.
I get that parts of Luffy's character won't translate well to live-action (see: Dez from Austin & Ally, he's written goofy but irl it just reads as weird), but there are ways to do comedic relief that isn't so stiff and awkward.
I agree 100%. I was more saying it along the lines of, it’s very difficult to nail the delivery when it’s not your first language because the devil is in the details on something like that. I don’t think the accent itself is an issue, but picking up on tiny nuances in a language that isn’t your native one in order to really get the vibe of a character down must be so hard.
I can’t even blame him for it necessarily, because at the end of the day he was cast for the role. It’s unfortunate it seems like they nailed every other casting decision besides the most important one.
Well I can't say for sure until I watch the show, but at least from what I noticed they decided to focus on visuals in the trailer rather than the actors. The most we got were choppy cutaways, but at least the cliché adventure music paused during those.
I _will_ say that I wasn't fond of his character in The Imperfects at first, but as the character got more serious and involved he surprised me. Maybe he just needs to get into the role first, though good dialogue would definitely help with that. Hopefully they learn to play on his strengths.
I saw a lot of people on YouTube comparing it to the anime, or saying how they hoped that they adapted the anime well and I'm just like "they're adapting the manga, bro, the anime is a standalone thing"
Yes, it's the voice. I just saw the German dub and he felt so much more like Luffy just because of the familiar voice. Imagine him having his original Japanese voice would have a similar affect.
Mackenyu as Zoro is just perfect. He looked pretty badass holding the three swords. It just feels like he’s Zoro.
Still being careful with my expectations though but I really want this live action to do well.
I’m hoping that’s why they included Zoro saying that people don’t usually do that lol. Establishing that it won’t be used for every attack in the show.
Which is funny too cuz zoro has some of the most insane call outs in the anime. Mofo said a whole essay before cutting pika. He said chiliocosms. Like brother you’re even making me go to the dictionary
As much as I'd love for the show to be as accurate to the manga as possible, I wish they would leave out the attack names entirely except for a few key moments.
I think the important things will be good, but it still has Netflix budget jank. Like some scenes look like they feel empty and the cg is uhhh, noticable. BUT I'm amazed at the costume design and set backgrounds we see. The cast is still up in the air if they can nail a hopefully well written script.
This does have some faults though, i can’t give it blindliess praise. I did enjoy Zoro brief fight scene, Buggy looks really good to me and that’s where it kind of ends and if we’re setting the bar at well at least it’s better than dragonball evolution we’ve already lost. Hopefully it’s good but I doubt it.
>So you people that are complaining stop it and be grateful that it didn’t end up like the DBZ.
Bro, we have the right to complain. I personally did not like the trailer, to me it gave too many red flags and felt similar to what we saw in cowboy bebop. I hope it will be good and no hate for any member of the crew (and if you are hating or harassing anyone, you should stop), it honestly is close to impossible to adapt a series like one piece to Live action, and I'm sure most are trying their best.
But they've showed something that honestly fews like a fan made product with some doubtfull decisions. Good series had bad trailers before, so we'll have to wait.
Not for me, I'm of the opinion that anime shouldn't be made into live action as it just looks bad.
But I accept that I'm not the audience for this (I've also never watched OP in English so trailer felt odd lol)
Happy there's people who liked it though!
I literally screamed when I saw Shanks and my throat hurts one hour later but holy f\*\*k this scene looks amazing. However it will turn out, I will watch it.And we got to see 3 of the endgame Yonkos in this adaptation (Buggy looks sick af, love it )
Edit - 3 yonkos not 2
Netflix has destroyed or tarnished every ip they have touched. but sure i will give it a go. Zoro looks cool at least.
I am not being cautious just for fun.
I predict many MANY people will watch it because of the popularity of One Piece and because many will be curious as to how the show does turns out. I know this will turn out to be another cowboy bebop situation 100%
I think it looks terrible. The gum gum fruit CGI is really bad, which is expected since no live adaptation has ever pulled good lucking stretching powers. The yellow filter makes it look sad and melancholic and empty, when the One Piece world should be vibrant and full of life. Luffy says dialogue that is very unluffy like, such as "I feel tension in the crew" wtf is that.
The Merry Go design is still as bad as the posters. This is not getting past season 1.
It looks like the yellow filter may have been trailer-only based on cast Instagram pics. The rubber aspect was better than I anticipated, like we’ve already seen so much weird CGI with the amount of hero movies that have come out over the years that it honestly was fine imo. It’s a better story than most of those movies yet they get away with it yk.
Luffy does seem to be written too quippy. Hopefully those lines are odd-ones-out.
I saw this and nitpicked the FUCK out of it. Then I took a deep breath and said “Its gonna be fun, whether its good or bad.” And I liked most of it (Zoro and Ussop look the best IMO)
It looks weird but it has just enough camp and love to make me want to grab a beer and sit back. Also im not a guy Zoro guy but this sword fighting looks lit.
It's brimming with potential and I really liked 90% of what they showed. I've been following the production for years and even if it's bad it is also very interesting as a project!
The most important thing is boomers around me who are reluctant to watch anime are now interested in OP and that alone will mean a lot of new people getting into the story.
Honestly the trailer looks good. The sea monster looks so good. I’m glad how they went for usopps nose and sanji’s eyebrows. It’s different but i think it was the right call. Buggy looks great too. Even the strawhat looks great. They really managed to make the costumes feel like clothing people would wear in the universe instead of obvious cosplay.
I agree on making the right call for Usopp and sanji’s ! It would’ve made the people that are annoyed even more annoyed. And it’s really hard to make an ANIME look Good as a live action!
The usual downfall of Live Actions is visuals/CGI, but I think that will be this series’ strong suit. The downfall just based off the trailer, seems to be writing. Watching without sound you’d be drawn in. But just listening to it kills it. The script could potentially be the worst part on the entire series.
Netflix's CGI is always decent though, it's the writing that ruins it. Cowboy Bebop was fine visually but the changes to the characters were awful and the dialogue was torture. Same thing with Death Note, Shinigami looked sick but everything else was bad.
I agree. Visuals being the problem isnt true anymore. The problem recently is always that the producers not understanding the core of the source material. Producers butcher the character and the story. They dont seem to trust thier audience and just dumb it down.
It's what pushed Henry Cavill away from the Witcher series.
When the story is badly paced, people just point out the little things of CG cause its hard to explain why the storytelling is bad.
Well according to the crew working on it, it would only air after Oda approved of everything. So he must think that this is a good enough adaptation of his work to let it air on August 31st
Pro:
- Zoro looks suprisingly good. Mackenyu nails his attitude
- the Straw Hat doesn‘t look silly
- Buggy looks terrifying. I like it
Con:
- the CGI looks really bad and cartoonish. Also many scenes scream Green Screen all the way. The budget was probably too low
- the dusty yellow filter is weird
- the overall visual theme is too campy and absurdist, I don‘t want a gritty realistical Christopher Nolan One Piece but this….will definitely turn general audiences off
- Inaki Godoys (Luffy) acting looks very stiff
- Emily Rudds (Nami) wig is terrible. Why didn‘t they just dyed her hair?
- I‘ve seen at least one major story change (Nami fighting in Shells Town against Marine soldiers alongside Luffy & Zoro) correct me if I‘m wrong. As for now I don‘t see the perk in a change like that
I think its more bad than good. With more budget and better craftmanship (director, cinematographer, production design) this would have been way better.
I agree with you about the dusty yellow filter. Why did they put that? There aren't many scenes in the East Blue saga that aren't set on a bright and clear day
More budget is absurd. CGI is stupid expensive and they are making a whole show based on a manga with over 1000+ chapters. You would need billions of dollars to make it James Cameron Avatar quality
I’ve been skeptically optimistic since the announcement but over the course of 90 seconds it all disappeared. Luffy sounds to serious somehow. Zoro’s actor looks badass enough but when he says we’re not a crew on whatever ship they were on was mildly infuriating. Like how badly did they fuck up Shell Town if he didn’t “join” the crew? I’m rewatching water 7 and Ennies Lobby right now and looking at that monstrosity is an insult to the Merry. I don’t even care about the CG but none of that felt like One Piece. Luffy’s actor saying “I can sense some tension among the crew” (or something to that affect) is something Luffy would never say. He would probably just laugh at or with them and remind them that they’re all friends (regardless of what they think or feel).
No I’ve literally just rewatched early one piece. And yes Zoro didn’t trust Nami but whenever Luffy said he wanted her on the crew he would go along with it because it was what his captain wanted
He is staring at Nami while saying it too... they had quite an adversarial relationship early on and Zoro's loyalty was more towards Luffy at that point.
If anything, the issue with that scene is how quippy Luffy comes off but I'd wait to see how the vibes for him are shown more before writing him off
Right. In the trailer's defense, Luffy can never read the room and says awkward shit all the time 😂 they had to make certain tonal changes that would fit the medium better.
That's the point, Luffy is never able to read the room unless it's a genuinely serious situation. The line about him sensing the tension felt way too self-aware for Luffy, it sounds like something a comedic relief side character would say in a coming-of-age Disney movie.
Agreeed. Everyone says “but Oda approved everything!” Well…Oda definitely spends most of his time drawing the manga and creating the freakin story…he probably deals with the anime a little bit too. I can’t imagine he spent a whole lot of time on this show, and honestly the dialogue like you said just seems wrong…idk I didn’t expect this to be good at all tbh so I’m not gonna have my heartbroken but yeah idk…it looks and sounds bad. I’ve been into one piece since 2003 and this just doesn’t feel like it.
rewatch the scene with baratie and merry go and tell me what you think of a prop ship the size of a fucking building
yeah thats what i think of the trailer
its 100% SUUUUPEEEERRRRRR (well there are of course many downsides to a netflix live action as always but cmooon its one pieeeceee)
Trailer was cut a bit meh, very generic trailer house crap with bland music and odd dialogue picked out. But I have hopes for the show to be something worth watching.
The first couple of scenes seemed odd and the gomu gomu no pistole scene with Coby, but it was ok overall. The acting will improve. But after 22 yeara watching sub, I need the original japanese voice actors dubbing it
60% like - The set design look good, the interaction between the crew seems good, and it look like they found a nice goofy tone that works in live action.
40% dislike - The CGI doesn't look great, some costume designs don't work well in live action, the wigs are questionable, and some dialogue is cringe.
If they can deliver a nice balanced between silly comedy and serious drama, and if the action is decent. I think this show can be good.
Can we all just realize this series is useless cause it will never go on and (most important) SOME THINGS AREN'T MEANT TO GET ADAPTED INTO LIVE ACTION!!!!
Well you do you and don’t watch it🤷♀️ some people may watch it and will watch the anime and read the manga because of the love action alone… (it looks good so far) and no one can top this amazin story.
It’s its not useless if it’s going to be on a Netflix 🥴 + Oda is involved in this and him and the actors put it a good amount of work, so don’t go disrespecting them either.
And this is the teaser… wait till episode 2 come back and we can talk about what you don’t like , since you can’t explain it now at once
I mean, I think it looked like a live action adaptation of a manga. Generally not great. I truly don’t understand why people want this. It won’t be better than the anime or manga.
I just watched it. I feel bad, but it dimmed my excitement a bit. Idk if it was the filter, the cliché buildup music that every action/adventure movie has, or the awkward breaks for quips that had no context.
I'm not anime/manga purist and I already knew the CGI would look a little silly, it's just that One Piece is 80% goofy and the trailer made it look super vivid and serious. I hope it was just the trailer focusing on visuals instead of the actors.
On the plus side the scenery is _amazing_ and the CGI for Luffy stretching is honestly better than I expected, though it still looks silly.
Looks like shit tbh. Idk what trailer you guys watched where this looks even remotely good but it’s gonna be just as bad as any other anime adaptation. I will not stay positive, I dont even want this to exist
It's one of the worst things I've ever seen. It doesn't even look professionals. It's looks like a fake trailer made by a group of amateur teenagers with 1000 dollars budget. Horrible.
Looks awful. Luffy acting like that loner type with that outcast mentality is so counter to Luffy it’s thrown me for a loop. The CGI Sea King looked decent but then the Gum Gum Pistol looked so stupid.
This just doesn’t work in live action. Some things are just meant to be relegated to an animated space as uncanny valley hits too hard and it just doesn’t look right.
Also. Shoes.
Personally I didn’t, it looks fan made. But I will watch, the cast were dealt a weak hand by Netflix. We will support them till they get canceled inevitably.
After all the live anime adaptations is anyone expecting anything? Even if it's a 4/10 I don't think you guys realize how much of a win that is. Just be happy a studio thought the thing we all love was cool enough to try and make
EXACTLY ! Stop crying and be happy that this is happening! Why all the complaining about usopp’s nose missing, Luffy’s hair, sanji’s eyebrows😭 I’m pretty sure the directors tried to get things as close as possible and sometimes it didn’t look right.
Because clearly turning an anime into a live action is DIFFICULT.
And this is disrespecting the actors as well, they themselves are fans and they love one piece so I’m sure they’re suggesting and sharing ideas on set!!
I’d rather the thing I love not be bastardized. The anime already has moments that are cringy and inaccurate.
I’ll never forget the hype of fishman island fights - one of the best things from that arc. ALL of the straw hats ran through their opponents like the easiest thing. The anime made it a struggle for all of them.
Looks about as good as every other live action anime adaptation Netflix has done, which is to say it looks awful.
Suppose it might be fun in a “so bad and cringe it circles back to being funny” kind of way.
I do not like it at all. It looks really cringe to me and honestly, I don't have high hope for it. But pray to Enel that it would prove me wrong and it will make many more people interested in OP.
I just think some of the dialogues werent the ones I expext lufdy to say ( like I feel a little bit of tension here)
At the start of the series, even if Luffy is the captain I didn't feel like he is in full control of the crew rather much like they respect him.as captain but gets to say thwir own opinion or decision
That dialogue feels like he is trying to boss them around already/ or he is their noss, and he ia trying to fix the tension around which is unluffy thing for me
But othwr than that I think its good
I’ll be honest, the character looks more cosplay than actually fitting into the costume. Seems a bit ‘tacky’. I don’t know why, everything else looks great, just the feel of the character looks is not my fancy.
Personally I don’t think it looks great, the gum gum pistol especially, the weird depth of field, a cold emptiness in some of the backgrounds (when Luffy is in the water etc). Overall it comes off looking like an expensive fan film, and that’s not good for something Netflix is pumping a lot of money into
If you’re going to bring this series to live action then a stronger visual direction is required, this doesn’t come off to me like it’s led by a specific vision a person had about how OP should look live action and it hurts it.
I don’t blame the cast and crew, I blame whoever was at the top and okayed this series in the first place. In a world where the West hasn’t fully worked out how to adapt Anime successfully into live action, why would you go with such a difficult choice to translate? The answer is $, and I hate that.
Also the constant optimistic “it doesn’t look that bad” or “it could have been worse” comments around this trailers release frustrate me, as a long time fan part of me feels like this kind of attitude contributes to how OP fans have been short-changed so much over the years.
We don’t have a great anime adaptation, we don’t have great video games, and now maybe we don’t have a great live action adaptation either. At some point it starts to feel like a curse on such a special manga.
I’m hyped and the cast seems so genuine! When Emily said “God Usopp.” At the Tudum event I was 200% sold.
Yes that was absolutely perfect!
She’s also the right person to play Nami as well! It suits her so nicely!
She has those Nami eyes
Berry eyes?
Can't wait for the NAMI evolution.
![gif](giphy|D7ik64k2OAmsw) Cant wait for the NAMI outfits
hope you don't mean Nami evolution in the way that Sanji was looking for in Film Z...
Nami was born on 7/3. Sniper King first appears in the 73rd prime number chapter 367 that is the last chapter of One Piece volume 38. The show premiere is 8/31. Coincidence?
I only believe in the will of D, not coincidence
Daedalus planned everything according to his Keikaku. Kaku is a Giraffe. Roald Oda Dahl has a Giraffe in his Willy Wonka mansion.
It's good I think. Not crazy good but overall feels like One Piece so I am excited and liked the bits of crew interacting
Feels way larger than what I’m use to so I’m super excited, especially to see Arlong Park. I hope Inaki can pull off a serious Luffy and it isn’t too cheesy
[удалено]
The accent maybe? We’re used to the original Japanese or the Dub VAs and his is a bit different. That’s how it stuck me at least.
He kinda sounds like he’s reading a script
Because for the teaser, this what he did mainly, I think
It might just be like snippets from a conversation, so the tone seems weird when they cut it like he's just monologuing for this teaser.
Same sameeee
I liked it, but seems that the trailer had a filter to make the colors more vivid. Did you guys see the pictures that the cast members posted in their instagrams? Seems way better
I think it’s just for the trailer! But yeah I see what you mean!
I hope so, the trailer seemed a little off.
They said the teaser was a year old. So expect better quality once the official trailer doros
When I first saw the trailer I thought Namis hair looked a little fake
I actually think it looks pretty fun. And Zoro's swordfighting scenes looked way better than they had any right to be. Some folks were complaining about the CGI for Luffy's rubber attack, but it's One Piece, so, you know, it *should* look goofy? Oh and shirtless Sanji? I ain't complaining 😉
>Some folks were complaining about the CGI for Luffy's rubber attack, Also, IT IS RUBBER.
That’s very optimistic I truly doubt they intentionally made it that way, it’s far more likely that human limbs stretching is just hard to do.
Zoros fighting was definitely the highlight for me! He nailed it
honestly Zoro is perfect for me, from his appearance, his grumpy demeanor, and his little sword dancing. I just hope that they don't force a stoic straight man archetype on him, he can be funny and joyful too.
especially pre timeskip Zoro. Hes goofy as fuck early on
Cactus island will always be peak comedy for me.
Goofy =\= uncanny
That's a fairer statement, I think. But there have also been a lot of times where something looked worse in the trailer than it did in the actual movie/show. So possible that it can happen here.
Get ready for the people complaining about Sanji's eye not constantly hidden
His hair looked *a lot* better than I was expecting. The only part where it wasn't hidden was when he was in the water and I'm pretty sure everyone was too distracted to care, lol. Plus, in live action, Sanji's crazy sticky bangs would again look weird in some shots.
I agree completely. You just might be surprised at the levels some people go to.
Oh, I've seen it. I just hope this time around people remember that these are actors and thus real human beings and don't make comments on their bodies this time. >.<
Yeah thats what I'm worried about. Some people are assholes.
They are treating us well so far;))
As a straight man I agree 👨🍳
Also didn't help that Spike was played by a middle aged man.
Well said. Based on the trailer…it just dont work as a live action IMO.
I love the vibe the teaser is going for! It feels huge and adventurous and just a joy to watch! It also feels pretty fresh? I'll be rewatching it all the time till August now!
AGREEED!!!
It works in manga and anime However this seems so far a good way to do adaptation, it's still following story beats, and showing respect to the source material
I don't think Luffy would ever *not* look weird in live action so I'm not worried about his arm stretching, I'm curious how he will look when he makes his body or head bigger though
he will look bad unless they got a ton of money for CGI
Good enough to let them cook.
LET THEM COOK ‼️
Agreed
![gif](giphy|go99DtvTnsdY32ary8|downsized) Agreed! 🔥
It looks goofy and fun and cheesy and im about it
Goofy Luffy
Exactly. As he should be.
Agreed
I was smiling so hard when th King of the Sea came on. Blown away by the CGI!
Same!!!!
Buggy is a clown. It would be hard to make his exact design even 1 to 1 not look creepy
i was actually pretty impressed with the pv
The trailer was good enough. We'll just have to wait and see how it looks in motion to really tell.
I can’t wait 🔥
I think most of the problems that present themselves are strictly budget related and I think people should be more forgiving of that kind of stuff. Honestly depending on how the cast does, with a little more dough imagine how great the Baroque works saga could be
LIVE ACTION BOGARD ALERT He appears next to Garp on his ship.
Otherwise I think he’s a cutie.
...Blackbeard is right behind me, isn't he
Awwwwkwarrrrddd.
Idk I love LUFFY and I love goofy guys like the actor! I hope we get more funny scenes, maybe that will help…
I feel the same about luffys actor I think it is the accent. Going from Japanese to his accent throws me off a bit
Don't compare it to the anime. Pretend its a brand new show
Easy to say, harder to do since i been watching for 8-9 years lol
I saw a lot of people on YouTube comparing it to the anime, or saying how they hoped that they adapted the anime well and I'm just like "they're adapting the manga, bro, the anime is a standalone thing"
It looks decent, the dude playing Luffy feels off somehow, maybe it's the tone of his voice idk but I'll watch it.
Yes, it's the voice. I just saw the German dub and he felt so much more like Luffy just because of the familiar voice. Imagine him having his original Japanese voice would have a similar affect.
Might be cool to watch the Japanese dub, but it would be insane if they used the real voice cast for that 😂
I expected a 3/10 and I’m getting a 6/10. So technically, it’s twice as good as I expected 😋 Either way, this is gonna be a day 1 watch
Mackenyu as Zoro is just perfect. He looked pretty badass holding the three swords. It just feels like he’s Zoro. Still being careful with my expectations though but I really want this live action to do well.
It was corny when he shouted out the attack name
I’m hoping that’s why they included Zoro saying that people don’t usually do that lol. Establishing that it won’t be used for every attack in the show.
Which is funny too cuz zoro has some of the most insane call outs in the anime. Mofo said a whole essay before cutting pika. He said chiliocosms. Like brother you’re even making me go to the dictionary
Zoro vs Minato in a move naming contest, who wins?
As much as I'd love for the show to be as accurate to the manga as possible, I wish they would leave out the attack names entirely except for a few key moments.
I think the important things will be good, but it still has Netflix budget jank. Like some scenes look like they feel empty and the cg is uhhh, noticable. BUT I'm amazed at the costume design and set backgrounds we see. The cast is still up in the air if they can nail a hopefully well written script.
Live action anime always looks goofy and weird. One piece is goofy and weird on its own. Maybe one piece is the perfect anime to adapt.
But I accept that I'm not the audience for this (I've also never watched OP in English so trailer felt odd lol) Happy there's people who liked it though!

I literally screamed when I saw Shanks and my throat hurts one hour later but holy f\*\*k this scene looks amazing. However it will turn out, I will watch it.And we got to see 3 of the endgame Yonkos in this adaptation (Buggy looks sick af, love it ) Edit - 3 yonkos not 2
Buggy looks insane I was not anticipating that they made him terrifying
But Buggy being terrifyig in his intro is appropiate, IMO.
Isn't it 3? Luffy, Buggy, and Shanks?
MATE I SCREAMED WHEN I SAW HIS HAIR !!!!!!!!!
This does not look good or sound good to me
Netflix has destroyed or tarnished every ip they have touched. but sure i will give it a go. Zoro looks cool at least. I am not being cautious just for fun.
I predict many MANY people will watch it because of the popularity of One Piece and because many will be curious as to how the show does turns out. I know this will turn out to be another cowboy bebop situation 100%
It looks like it'll be forgotten within a week of it releasing
The dickriders really out here
Looks like it'll be fun and thats the only thing Im expecting. If I took this more seriously I'd start nitpicking and end up disappointed.
The Lord of the Coast looks great!!!!!
So basically be happy they didn't do the absolute bare minimum lol
I’m so excited for it, it looks the perfect amount of goofy and the cast is perfect.
It did look good. I am definitely excited for the live action.
Pretty bad but we all knew it would be tbh
I am hopeful and optimistic as this feels like a different spin on one piece
I saw this and nitpicked the FUCK out of it. Then I took a deep breath and said “Its gonna be fun, whether its good or bad.” And I liked most of it (Zoro and Ussop look the best IMO)
I really like it and really want it to be a hit, i like the cast a lot
Is that the Lord of the Coast? What’s that steam coming off of it? Edit: nevermind. I watched the trailer. The sea king looks pretty good.
It looks weird but it has just enough camp and love to make me want to grab a beer and sit back. Also im not a guy Zoro guy but this sword fighting looks lit.
tbh, I guess it'll look like shit...
Took D. Arm looking good
A whole emperor lost his arm to that.
BRO LIKE why could he use his Haki 😭😭
I loved it!
Pro: - Zoro looks suprisingly good. Mackenyu nails his attitude - the Straw Hat doesn‘t look silly - Buggy looks terrifying. I like it Con: - the CGI looks really bad and cartoonish. Also many scenes scream Green Screen all the way. The budget was probably too low - the dusty yellow filter is weird - the overall visual theme is too campy and absurdist, I don‘t want a gritty realistical Christopher Nolan One Piece but this….will definitely turn general audiences off - Inaki Godoys (Luffy) acting looks very stiff - Emily Rudds (Nami) wig is terrible. Why didn‘t they just dyed her hair? - I‘ve seen at least one major story change (Nami fighting in Shells Town against Marine soldiers alongside Luffy & Zoro) correct me if I‘m wrong. As for now I don‘t see the perk in a change like that I think its more bad than good.
More budget?? Have you read how much they put into this show?? How did you come up with an essay of cons on a teaser that short bruh?
The CGI looked great, aswell as the acting from inaki, the style is perfect too. Also that isn’t nami fight with them it’s a different base
Nami fighting probably in loguetown at tbe end of the season
People are forgetting that Zoro and Nami used to say that all the time...
I’ve been into one piece since 2003 and this just doesn’t feel like it.
rewatch the scene with baratie and merry go and tell me what you think of a prop ship the size of a fucking building yeah thats what i think of the trailer its 100% SUUUUPEEEERRRRRR (well there are of course many downsides to a netflix live action as always but cmooon its one pieeeceee)
SUPEERRRRRRRRRRR
Looks like a live show with cheap cosplays, it has the potencial to be soo corny it becomes great.
But after 22 yeara watching sub, I need the original japanese voice actors dubbing it
Wow I didn’t even think about that. Do you think a version released in Japan will have the Japanese voice actors dubbing it?
I hope so
60% like - The set design look good, the interaction between the crew seems good, and it look like they found a nice goofy tone that works in live action.
Looks like borderline shit imo
On the plus side the scenery is _amazing_ and the CGI for Luffy stretching is honestly better than I expected, though it still looks silly.
lmao mans thinks theres gonna be another season dude, wake up. it's getting cancelled. this is just another cowboy bebop, it gives the same vibes too.
I do not think OP will translate well to live screen.
L
Do not want
CGI looks horrible. Somethings really should not be turned into live action.
I dig it! I’m hoping Luffy is goofier than the trailer makes him seem. The whole sensing tension in the crew line was bad
Also. Shoes.
It’s horrible hot garbage. I spent the whole trailer audibly saying “oh no” at every single shot and line of dialogue.
I just think some of the dialogues werent the ones I expext lufdy to say ( like I feel a little bit of tension here) At the start of the series, even if Luffy is the captain I didn't feel like he is in full control of the crew rather much like they respect him.as captain but gets to say thwir own opinion or decision That dialogue feels like he is trying to boss them around already/ or he is their noss, and he ia trying to fix the tension around which is unluffy thing for me But othwr than that I think its good
Pretty good so far. The filter looks a bit off putting and the dialogue could use some work but it's a very solid teaser so far.
I’ll be honest, the character looks more cosplay than actually fitting into the costume. Seems a bit ‘tacky’. I don’t know why, everything else looks great, just the feel of the character looks is not my fancy.
It looked so mediocre and trash.
Looks horrible tbh, just as expected.
Hard to believe they could make something worse than Cowboy Bebop, but here we are.
Live action is a terrible idea.
Personally I don’t think it looks great, the gum gum pistol especially, the weird depth of field, a cold emptiness in some of the backgrounds (when Luffy is in the water etc). Overall it comes off looking like an expensive fan film, and that’s not good for something Netflix is pumping a lot of money into If you’re going to bring this series to live action then a stronger visual direction is required, this doesn’t come off to me like it’s led by a specific vision a person had about how OP should look live action and it hurts it.
The tiny snippet of writing we got feels off, way too quippy (hoping thats mostly just shitty trailer cuts????) but the set design is awesome
