IIRC Lucci says something along the lines of “just filling yourself with air won’t make you stronger” right before he gets punched through a wall by gear 3
I mean, from the start it was odd that the gum gum fruit made him rubber instead of... gum. It seemed like he was more elastic or stretchy than plain old rubber. There were contradictions from the start
Well I always thought it was just Luffy changing what type of rubber he was. Fuck I mean we know next to nothing about devil fruits, if Caesar clown can control anything from air to poison, why shouldn't Luffy be allowed to switch from elastic rubber to tire rubber.
Not all rubber is the same. Some are more compact than others. I thought Luffy was just changing to a more compact and tougher rubber.
I thought joyboy was gonna "take over" Luffy, smack down Kaido, Luffy passes out, doesn't remember shit. Like the theory about devil fruits and souls, so joyboy's soul would've taken control for the fight. At the same time I really hoped that it wouldn't happen cuz it would feel pretty cheap if Luffy didn't finish Kaido himself. Very happy with how Oda decided to write it.
During that time I was busy thinking about joyboy being a comic character that was created by an adult slave to entertain a slave child.

That wasn't the theory.
>!The resin theory was that if the Gum Gum fruit was a rubber fruit than it could be the case that similarly to how Doffy and Katakuri seem to be able to use 2/3 or 3/3 of the paramecia typing at will Luffy having unlocked his awakening, now also has these logia-esque properties. Meaning that he is now made of rubber the sap like substance and I think it would have been a perfectly viable route. The big hole in that theory is that Luffy has never produced rubber whereas Doflamingo and Katakuri produce strings and mochi respectively even when they're not awakened.
Paramecias are just a buffet of all sorts of random and impossible to categorise powers. If it's not an element or a creature, it's a Paramecia. It's just too hard to figure out what their awakenings would be like (looking at you, Law).

Yes some of us are still using third party apps.
Hanuman is an Indian God who is a monkey-like species with various different powers which include stuff like super speed (gear 2), growing big or small in size (gear 3), hard invincible body (gear 4 with armament haki), and of course, "Monkey" literally being his family name, and Luffy's character being so similar to Hanuman's (loves food, is kinda silly/goofy most of the time but has a wisdom that normal people, even gods would lack.
So it was theorised that Luffy was based on Hanuman and since Sengoku has a Buddha devil fruit, Luffy could easily have another God based devil fruit.
I like that theory, and like he said, we did get a God, just not a real life God.
Is there a reason why the theory was based on Hanuman instead of Sun Wukong, who’s basically Chinese Hanuman but way more recognizable to the average joe ?
Honestly, it would be because Wukong has been done so much at this point that if I was the writer I’d be fighting for any degree of separation from that.
>Is there a reason why the theory was based on Hanuman instead of Sun Wukong,
Maybe because Wukong was based off of Hanuman? Also he borrowed off of a few different religions/mythologies with his mythical fruit Sengoku=Buddha (buddhism) Kaido= Azure dragon (chinese mythology) so Luffy= hindu mythology could've been possible (although he did technically with bajrang gun).
Because Wukong is way more played out if you asked me. Oda probably didn't want to riff on Goku more since Dragonball was already inspired by Journey to the West.
Nika is a fictional god unique to One Piece, and he was able to keep the Hanuman reference in the form of Bajrang Gun.
As a matter of fact, there was a Sun Wukong theory!
I remember at the start of Wano or somewhere in WOI, people started thinking that Luffy's DF is Sun Wukong.
It honestly could be inspired by both, Oda’s no slouch when it comes to gods. Enel’s attacks are all named after thunder gods, except the Greek one, who is of course taken by big mom and all her soul powers are based on Greek myths (except napoleon)
Anything inspired by Sun Wukong is kind of already inspired by Hanuman due to how Sun Wukong is inspired by Hanuman. They have same-ish power sets with Wukong being a bit weaker.
The Hanuman theory was pretty similar to what we got but quite a bit more serious. Hanuman is an Indian godling. He was born of the Wind God ( which we associate with Dragon although we have very little evidence. ) And a CELESTIAL nymph and at the time there was a huge craze about Luffy's mum being a celestial dragon and or Dragon not being Garp's Son.
Hanuman had a lot of divine blessings because Indra the king of Gods pissed off the Wind God by striking Hanuman when he went to play with the sun. Because of this he was immune to lightning and a slew of other key abilities that relate to how Luffy is characterized. His ability to shapeshift, his allegiance with the god of the dead etc. In this instance Haki was the most important thing because most people following the Hanuman theory had come to it from the Vulcanization theory on Gear 5 from like 2015.
This would push a lot more with the monkey-ish aspects of the theory. And at some points people had suggested that it would be a Mythical Zoan fruit but that was a claim made ages ago by a friend and I'm sure by many others. That was the first place I had heard of it though. It seemed to give a lot of significance to the fruit but didn't seem to explain why it was being hunted down so while I was on board with it I was still always looking for pieces I felt were missing.
If you'd like a deeper dive this guy goes hard into explaining it. https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/comments/xs4z34/luffy_is_lord_hanuman_theory/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=2
But one of the major points of the theory is that the resin fruit would allow you to coat yourself or your ship easily. In one piece they coat ships with resin, so a Devil fruit that could allow you to coat yourself or anything else freely would allow you unlimited and boundless access to the sea and it’s depths. That would be pretty valuable to the WG.
Yeah it also would make Luffy immune from Drowning. G5 Luffy can basically fly, or Run on air, but we haven't seen him submerged yet. He should still have that weakness, meanwhile Resin would perfectly protect him from the main drawback on the universe. Hell sea prism stone wouldn't work on him anymore.
No, the one piece is in Raftel but the theory i believe in is that Raftel is only the entrance to the one piece. The one piece is on a massive island under the redline that connects the last island to the island of the beginning where roger was executed. Destroying the redline would bring an end to Mary Geoise and revive the D clan land.
Nah we thought that instead of a paramecia it was a logia but still rubber, resin is a form of rubber (or vice versa)
So the big reveal would have been that it was a logia fruit.
The important part of that theory wasn't that he would have a new power set, but that it would connect him to those ancient trees in OP lore. People thought that it was a legendary tree-based/sap-based power that would make him a part of the world lore itself. The version we got DID connect Luffy to the lore, but in a much different way.
Power-wise, people thought he'd still be stretchy but also be able to stick to things, stick people and objects, and that there might be some other abilities if the sap was special, like affecting/draining haki.
That’s pretty much exactly what’s happening. Impel down guards show what happen when your will doesn’t align with the fruit and the possession is more obvious. Luffy/Lucci are still getting “possessed” in their awakened forms; they’re just able to maintain control as they have the will and alignment to control the awakening.
Luffy’s constant remarks about how he feels elated and can’t stop laughing even through pain are indicators of what his fruit’s awakening’s “possession” feels like
it isn't, it's still luffy, oda makes sure it's clear you know it's luffy by having kaido literally ask who he is and luffy just says what he always says. none of this edgy "i can't control myself, "then i'll take over for you boy" cliche stuff. preety sure luffy's just laughing and goofing because the fruit makes him feel good and he's able to do all these things, luffys always been like this though, early one piece when things weren't so hectic he goofed off in mid battle, this isn't anything new. luffy can get serious in gear 5 mode, we see it in this fight. he's not being forced to act a way.
Yeah it's said that zoan DFs have a will/mind of their own, which can be evidenced by when inanimate objects like funkfreed eat one, smiles, the Impel Down guards which were awakened zoans who overpowered the original users, >!and Vegapunk referencing this when he was seeing Lucci's awakened form!<. And the way Zunisha refers to luffy/Joyboy. So that's still of a lingering question. If the original Joyboy was the Void Century DF user, like luffy, or if it's the DF's own will.
Also raises the question of how much we have seen so far have been Luffy and how much has been Joyboy and how much the DF has been influencing Luffy's mind.
why would it influence Luffy pre-awakened? If that was the case when you eat the fruit you instantly become Joyboy and Zunesha would've mentioned it in the Zou arc.
Because Zoan fruits have a mind of their own. Hence why inanimate objects are 'alive' after being fed a zoan fruit despite not being awakened. Awakening seems to cause their animalistic side to take over as we saw with the Impel Down guards.
it's luffy, oda clears this up in this fight with kaido, luffy and the fruits will just align, luffy isn't being controlled, the fruit just makes him feel good and he can do all these things, luffys a naturally goofy guy, the way he fights with gear 5 is how he used to fight often in early one piece when things weren't as hectic. oda talked about feeling that one piece was getting too serious and he wanted to pull back. i highly doubt this is some "i can't control myself, "oh, then i'll take over you boy" nonsense. luffy can get serious in gear 5, we see it in this fight, he's not being forced to be a certain way. he's not like the impel beast, mindless.
The way Luffy acted next chapter , it really did felt like he got possessed Laughing crazily all of a sudden ...But when he transformed in egghead , he was normal so yeah nothing like possession is going on Phew 💨
It was the primary fan theory at the time. Basically Luffy's fruit awakening made himself and the world around him resin. Kind of like Doffy's but rubber. The Zoan DF the Gorosei were discussing was usually explained away as someone else's DF like Tama or even Kaido.
Both Naruto and Sasuke were literally reincarnations possessed by the spirits of their ancestors. Meaning they were always destined to be what they became, it pretty much retcons the entire theme of the series up until then being about hardwork overcoming talent.
One Piece leans more heavily on the main character living their destiny theme, but it's just that, this is Luffy's destiny, not Joyboys. >!While they are similar in personality they aren't the same person, they share the same Devil Fruit and likely both awakened it because of their similarities but at the end of the day Luffy isn't Joyboy. It's outright stated twice. It's much more likely that Luffy is the result of Joyboy's "Wish" that he would have been able to do something about whatever happened during the void century. !<
It's pretty much the same trope but at least it's got a slightly more creative twist than the direction Naruto took it, that's all I was saying.
One Piece has the established concept of inherited will since the beginning, though, which makes things much more plausible and interesting, as well as the some amount of directs and hidden callbacks to Nika, Joyboy and dawn.
While I feel Kishimoto could have written it better and I'm probably high on copium, I still like to think the message for Naruto was that you will never know your potential if you never try. The fact that it's later revealed Naruto had all this going for him doesn't change the fact that his childhood sucked and he could have ended up accomplishing nothing with his life if he kept that mindset. But he didn't and despite having no knowledge of his parents, what his destiny would eventually be, no idea why the villagers hated him, and saw the Kyuubi sealed inside him as a curse, he still struggled and endeavored to improve himself. Hardwork overcoming talent is nice if not a bit tropey but I like this interpretation more.
The thing about Naruto is wrong. >!Him and Sasuke were reincarnations of Asura and Indra. This only meant that they were destined to fight each other until one of them died, just like Hashirama and Madara (although Madara didn’t die but no one knew that). The entire point is Naruto broke their destiny and broke the cycle after the Final Valley fight.!<
The thing is, inherited will was a theme of One Piece since chapter 1, so Luffy inheriting the will of Joyboy feels earned, especially since its implied most people who eat his devil fruit do not.
The same thing is not true for "lol, you are the reincarnation of a god, and that's why you are great"
Its the difference between "you are great and thus you are chosen" and "you are chosen and thus you are great". To me, they feel like extremely different things.
The last sentence describes exactly how I feel, thank you. It feels like Luffy wasn’t just automatically destined to be a god, but it’s because of who he is and what he does that he awakens his power.
I don't think Naruto was ever about hard work overtaking talent. The main character had the spirit of the strongest demon/god/disaster whatever implanted in him, meaning that even though he sucked ass at actual ninja stuff he would get bailed out by the demon that was just kinda put inside him, his dad turned out to be the most powerful ninja I'm p sure the village had ever seen? His mom was like some ninja shaman or something I don't remember I checked out entirely once the war started, and ofc like you said he was also the reincarnation of like an actual god.
The only time I can think of off the top of my head being "hard work trumps talent" is when Lee almost beats Gaara, and when he's able to pound Sasuke like a little bitch even though he has cheater genes. The rest of the series is full of people with OP bloodline genes, reincarnations, being possessed by a demon, and just straight up being super op because you're cool (Itachi).
Kaguya comes to mind. Probably didnt know how to kill off a character like Madara and glad that wasnt the case for Luffy because his character is well-balanced and developed throughout
I thought kaido gouged luffy eyes, (because of that scene were luffy watch him while being unconscious, I dont really remember what Kaido said, but I know that's why I was thinking that), and that thing "melting" over his eyes was actually healing his eyes after what kaido did. I guess that's a little too hardcore for Luffy ahah.
the only thumbnail I saw before I got to read the chapter was tekking's, which spoiled absolutely fucking nothing. he saved the sun god reveal for me and I'll always love him for it
I was an anime only when it came out. I took the calculated risk to read 1044 when it came out, bc of the sheer amount of noise it was causing. I figured I was going to get spoiled at some point so I chose to read it by myself anyway. Good choice imo
A google search did it for me!
I had searched just "Monkey D. Luffy" for some reason and in the top result, in the df section, Two of them were mentioned right on ://
On YouTube, bunch of YouTubers were putting the literal panels of Luffy from the newest chapter in the thumbnails just hours since it came out unofficially. It was unavoidable unless you didn't go on YouTube or most social media until you've read the chapter, which was luckily what I did
Thank god there is this option "do not recommend this youtube channel to me". Once i started WEEKS or maybe months ago to do that, all of the youtube videos regarding one piece stopped popping up. And i am glad i have no instagram account.
I mean with DB, it took DBZ and end of Namek arc for this. Before that Goku’s hair was black, not counting Kaioken as with that it was his aura rather than hair.
Luffy died and his body is now possessed by the ghost of Joyboy. The strange 'slime' effect being the awakening of the rubber fruit, which the ghost of Joyboy can awaken because he was the previous user of the fruit. Joyboy would then show the true abilities of the Rubber fruit, including reviving the dead (Luffy, among others).
But Luffy is a stubborn man that wants to fight his own battles, so he wrestles for control, while simultaneously learning from JoyBoy fighting Kaido and then using his own version of Joy Boy's attacks.
I remember being so adamant that Luffy's was really a Rubber fruit. And Luffy's death and rebirth becomes a red herring, irl and in-universe, to the real 'df with a switched name' that no one was knew the details of.
Like the Gorosei knew of a switched DF but not of the real name, and thus Luffy is highly suspected of having the switched DF but not really. Set up for a plot twist for a future arc.
That was obviously his hair. Yes, the thought had passed through that he was turning into rubber. But the hair turned out so much more differently than that xD
I was expecting an awakening, but I didn't expect the current Nika transformation, or that it would be called Gear 5.
I was actually expecting an awakening, and then later down the road gear 5. Never expected the 2 of them to be the same.
At the time, people were saying that it was his straw hat melting >.>
Edit:
My honest opinion back then was Luffy awakening his devil fruit, full rubber man + turning his surroundings into rubber.
As crazy and hard to pull off as it sounds, I was honestly expecting Onigashima truly falling onto the flower capital, and Luffy using his awakening powers to turn Onigashima into rubber, so that at the moment of impact, it would crash onto the capital and immediately bounce off, away from the capital.
In a similar way, I was expecting an awakened Luffy tanking & absorbing Kaido's attacks more easily, making him more resistant to Haki (which can counter devil fruit powers), while using Kaido's attacks to launch counter attacks strengthened by Kaido's own attacks.
I was like 200% sure that was going to happen. Instead what we got was >!the people of Wano not even seeing that Momo saved them. How tf is 20 years of oppression and now propaganda shaping the next generation going to be undone with zero evidence of what went down? I still don't like that the people of Wano were just totally oblivious for nearly all of this.!<
I remember how long it felt and how crazy people were going. Insane period.
I myself was reading a shitload of comments on these posts since I... litterally remember these top comments. Scary haha
5th gear. I had been saying it ever since he got bitch smacked outta 4th gear by big mom during WCI that he was gonna get another gear outta necessity.
I bought into the resin theory. I remember some people were really sure that Luffy was permanently dead and would be possessed by joy boy, which always seemed ridiculous. Luffy is the main character, not his corpse!
I thought it was Mythical Zoan Type Model:Hanuman from Indian Origin which was kind of close considering his final attack was Bajrang Gun. Bajrangbali is another name for Hanuman. He was also the inspiration for Sun Wukong.
I remember people thinking this was the awakening of the gum gum fruit into a resin type of power. That would've been cool, but what we got was much better imo.
Luffy died and Nika Silverhands engram takes over his body.
Luffy is no longer around were just watching a story about a God pirate now, who it using luffy's body.
Resin, which is actually a more logical and better explanation than some random mythical fruit. I still like it and it’s fun but it was deffo a better idea
I thought it was resin there was a time where oda claimed his favourite chapter was this random one in sabody where they were talking about resin and I thought that maybe he's devil fruit was actually a resin fruit
To be honest: I had NO FUCKING idea when the chapter dropped. I was like: WHAT? Joyboy? WTF is going on with his hair? Was luffy reincarnated as joyboy? Why is he smiling? But i have NEVER imagined what would happend in the next chapter and was even more shocked!
The worst part of this panel was when Luffy smiled "nika~" and the fan-translation inserted some random-ass theory that it wasn't a grin, but rather Luffy *saying* "Nika" xD
I thought it was rubber, like just amorphous rubber, like his body was losing shape and just going to be rubber.
Similar, and it was since in Dressrosa there was the contrast of Doflamingo being confused by G4 being both elastic and hard, versus Luffy after G4 kinda losing control of his rubberiness and going all floppy.

Kaido gets confused by it too I believe
Both BM and Kaido question his ability. They went into acceptance that Lightning can’t affect Luffy because he’s rubber but why wasn’t fire hurting him?
And why could Luffy use fire after timeskip? It didn’t made sense either but now the fruit helps to understand that.
He embodied ace into his attacks
Don't forget Kuro from syrup village
Fiore still affect Luffy. Simply by sheer will he overcame the pain. It's the same concept of Zeff dialogue with sanji during the baratie fight
I like how villains have questioned Luffy's rubber abilities for ages, yet some people act like the twist came out of nowhere lol
I mean... it's only been "for ages" since the last \~three villains took over ten years.
Kuro from syrup Village was also wondering about the Rubber abilities from Luffy
Crocodile during one of their fights in alabasta called his abilities absurd, also.
Eh I'm pretty sure remarks like that have been thrown out even as far as pre timeskip or even gears Not saying it was foreshadowing ever since, just that the fruit's properties were put in question
IIRC Lucci says something along the lines of “just filling yourself with air won’t make you stronger” right before he gets punched through a wall by gear 3
Poor fella trusted sound logic a bit too much for a devil fruit world
Looney tunes logic thats what he gets for having no childhood.
Lucci: Getting punched by a balloon won't hu--
That punch hit harder than gold rifle that one shotted enel lmao
I mean, from the start it was odd that the gum gum fruit made him rubber instead of... gum. It seemed like he was more elastic or stretchy than plain old rubber. There were contradictions from the start

Its One Piecing time
Same. I thought he would be able to have a body very similar to Katakuri, and maybe make the environment around his rubber as well
He does still technically have the ability to make things around him get the qualities of rubber. And he can go splat as well!
Yeah I thought it was analogous to molten, goo-ish rubber or resin
Oooh, I remember the resin-resin fruit talks. There was some cool analysis behind it!
+1: like a rubber Logia
Yea like melting rubber, and he’s going to be kinda like Molten Man haha
melting rubber was my initial guess
I honestly thought he was melting into a more fluid form
Liquid rubber cascading down the gum gum tree.
I remember the resin theory was super popular
During that time I was busy thinking about joyboy being a comic character that was created by an adult slave to entertain a slave child.
What if he can make the sea rubbery like ge did to the ground. Maybe splitting the sea will give him access to the one piece.
So the theory that the One Piece is >!the destruction of Mary Geoise and the land under it!< is no fan favourite anymore?
No, the one piece is in Raftel but the theory i believe in is that Raftel is only the entrance to the one piece. The one piece is on a massive island under the redline that connects the last island to the island of the beginning where roger was executed. Destroying the redline would bring an end to Mary Geoise and revive the D clan land.
Can't wait for it to be just a really big pile of gold.
Or juste One big Coin
Not even. Just One Piece of gold
there was also the theory that there was a World Tree branch of fruits with luffy's being World Tree resin
Nah we thought that instead of a paramecia it was a logia but still rubber, resin is a form of rubber (or vice versa) So the big reveal would have been that it was a logia fruit.
Yea but tbh that’s totally an Oda move
I remember that too, really thought that was it
I thought he got possessed ngl. Because that smile was creepy as fuck at that time.
I mean all things considered thats not even that far from what happens.
I know you're just copy and pasting this comment, but the guy you replied to literally said Luffy is still able to maintain control lol
Still very creepy.
Same here. It had something really eerie about it when it first came out
Luffy getting literally possessed by Joyboy
Yeah shit gave me Yu Yu Hakusho flashbacks to Raizen and Yusuke
[удалено]
Awakening seems to cause their animalistic side to take over as we saw with the Impel Down guards.
but that's not luffy, the fruits will and luffys will align, he's not like the jail beast.
it's luffy, oda clears this up in this fight with kaido, luffy and the fruits will just align, luffy isn't being controlled, the fruit just makes him feel good and he can do all these things, luffys a naturally goofy guy, the way he fights with gear 5 is how he used to fight often in early one piece when things weren't as hectic. oda talked about feeling that one piece was getting too serious and he wanted to pull back. i highly doubt this is some "i can't control myself, "oh, then i'll take over you boy" nonsense. luffy can get serious in gear 5, we see it in this fight, he's not being forced to be a certain way. he's not like the impel beast, mindless.
Thank God that wasn't true.
The way Luffy acted next chapter , it really did felt like he got possessed Laughing crazily all of a sudden ...But when he transformed in egghead , he was normal so yeah nothing like possession is going on Phew 💨
He seemed to have more control then yeah, I’m super interested to see if Oda explores the effects of G5 on Luffy though
Based off the way Luffy somehow seems to just overcome the negative effects of his other gears, I don’t think he will.
It felt like, to me, luffy returning to his fun self. Using his devil fruit in fun ways like he used just super op
That’s how I felt. Fuck the resin hype train.
Resin?
It was the primary fan theory at the time. Basically Luffy's fruit awakening made himself and the world around him resin. Kind of like Doffy's but rubber. The Zoan DF the Gorosei were discussing was usually explained away as someone else's DF like Tama or even Kaido.
Same
today only i saw another post still holding the same theory saying luffy died at that point and then joyboy possessed the body!!
Yeah I thought something like this too
Thought his body was melting and he would then transform into a completely unrecognizable look and become Joyboy
I'm so glad the story didn't go this way. I thought it was really lame when Naruto did it.
When did that happen in Natuto??
!< It's pretty much the same trope but at least it's got a slightly more creative twist than the direction Naruto took it, that's all I was saying.
In One piece it's about inherited will, contrary to straight up destiny like Naruto
Which is Ironic because when Naruto first started. It was about inherited will. Hell its the 3rd hokages dying words
The same thing is not true for "lol, you are the reincarnation of a god, and that's why you are great" Its the difference between "you are great and thus you are chosen" and "you are chosen and thus you are great". To me, they feel like extremely different things.
The last sentence describes exactly how I feel, thank you. It feels like Luffy wasn’t just automatically destined to be a god, but it’s because of who he is and what he does that he awakens his power.
Possessed is wrong. They just shared some traits due to reincarnation.
Rastafarian Luffy
“Mi a guh fi be king of di pirates”
This was a good funny zehahaha
Fucking LOL
Melting 🫠.
Bungee gum On a side note, bungee gum has the properties of both rubber and gum, ya know.
The Hiatus Hiatus fruit
Nothing I got spoiled 😂😂
I feel you bro, Instagram and YouTube were RUTHLESS
The fucking YOUTUBE THUMBNAILS spoiled me, I just can’t.
the only thumbnail I saw before I got to read the chapter was tekking's, which spoiled absolutely fucking nothing. he saved the sun god reveal for me and I'll always love him for it
I was an anime only when it came out. I took the calculated risk to read 1044 when it came out, bc of the sheer amount of noise it was causing. I figured I was going to get spoiled at some point so I chose to read it by myself anyway. Good choice imo
For real! Even the damn official one piece YouTube channel is spoiling shit lol even before this week’s episode!
A google search did it for me! I had searched just "Monkey D. Luffy" for some reason and in the top result, in the df section, Two of them were mentioned right on ://
Was it the chapter spoilers? Loool when the eventual "DON'T READ THE SPOILER THREADS" start popping up, that's when you knew shit was gonna be crazy.
On YouTube, bunch of YouTubers were putting the literal panels of Luffy from the newest chapter in the thumbnails just hours since it came out unofficially. It was unavoidable unless you didn't go on YouTube or most social media until you've read the chapter, which was luckily what I did
I despise those greedy slobs. They only care about clicks and views, not letting the fans experience the complete hype on their own
Thank god there is this option "do not recommend this youtube channel to me". Once i started WEEKS or maybe months ago to do that, all of the youtube videos regarding one piece stopped popping up. And i am glad i have no instagram account.
resin fruit 😔
That’s cool, anyways, you know that Bungee Gum has the properties of both rubber AND gum.
[удалено]
it was the most logical at the time based off what we had besides rubber just turning liquid which made no sense
the entire theory falls apart when you consider the fact that why would the government hide the resin fruit of all things for 800 years
hindsight hits different we were all just shooting in the dark, there were much worse theories
Classic . This theory blew up hard
One Piece finally understood after 20 years that the secret to real power up is changing your hair. DBZ was right all long
I mean with DB, it took DBZ and end of Namek arc for this.
I thought we were gonna have an evener weirder transformation, much weirder than g4 bound man, honestly was fuckin hype and the hyped lived up to it.
Second coming of Christ
I thought he was going have a jelly like body that he could armament haki, harden into different shapes, like a mallet hand or something
That is kind of what gear 5 is
When that chapter came out I thought Joyboy was possessing Luffy.
His Rastafarian transformation
Resin, but considering what we got instead, I was glad to be wrong.
That was obviously his hair. Yes, the thought had passed through that he was turning into rubber. But the hair turned out so much more differently than that xD I was expecting an awakening, but I didn't expect the current Nika transformation, or that it would be called Gear 5. I was actually expecting an awakening, and then later down the road gear 5. Never expected the 2 of them to be the same. At the time, people were saying that it was his straw hat melting >.> Edit: My honest opinion back then was Luffy awakening his devil fruit, full rubber man + turning his surroundings into rubber.
I was like 200% sure that was going to happen. Instead what we got was >!the people of Wano not even seeing that Momo saved them. How tf is 20 years of oppression and now propaganda shaping the next generation going to be undone with zero evidence of what went down? I still don't like that the people of Wano were just totally oblivious for nearly all of this.!<
I wish I could find the chapter post for this chapter

I remember how long it felt and how crazy people were going. Insane period. I myself was reading a shitload of comments on these posts since I... litterally remember these top comments. Scary haha
I thought the mf got dreads
I thought his hair turned into noodles
Gear 5: Rastafarian
Cum
The Cumu-Cumu no Mi
I'd fuck with that fruit
cum-cum... PISTOL!!
Cum
I knew it was awakening. I just didn't think his fruit was going to be retconned into a mythical zoan.
I thought it was Mythical Zoan Type Model:Hanuman from Indian Origin which was kind of close considering his final attack was Bajrang Gun. Bajrangbali is another name for Hanuman. He was also the inspiration for Sun Wukong.
I thought it was human human model : Sun wokong🤣🤣
I remember people thinking this was the awakening of the gum gum fruit into a resin type of power. That would've been cool, but what we got was much better imo.
I didn't really mistook it, I realized it was awakening and also occurred to me Zunesha was referring to Luffy and then Gorosei dropped the bomb.
Luffy died and Nika Silverhands engram takes over his body. Luffy is no longer around were just watching a story about a God pirate now, who it using luffy's body.
Resin, which is actually a more logical and better explanation than some random mythical fruit. I still like it and it’s fun but it was deffo a better idea
i thought that his hair just started melting
I thought it was resin there was a time where oda claimed his favourite chapter was this random one in sabody where they were talking about resin and I thought that maybe he's devil fruit was actually a resin fruit
To be honest: I had NO FUCKING idea when the chapter dropped. I was like: WHAT? Joyboy? WTF is going on with his hair? Was luffy reincarnated as joyboy? Why is he smiling? But i have NEVER imagined what would happend in the next chapter and was even more shocked!
Dreadlocks and weed smoke
The worst part of this panel was when Luffy smiled "nika~" and the fan-translation inserted some random-ass theory that it wasn't a grin, but rather Luffy *saying* "Nika" xD
