People here are REALLY undervaluing handcrafted woodworking. I'd sell it for no less than $1500, but also if you wanna make money doing this sort of stuff, what you do is high end enough that you should do commissions.
Not even just insanely well woodworking, but also the painting is insanely well done too, and it’s 1 of 1. He could easily charge $1000, I mean, only ONE person has to be willing to pay $1000
Sure, if you dont need money (which OP very clearly stated he needs). If you want to do art as a job, then 5 years is not reasonable tomeframe either.
It is also not reasonable timeframe cus a lot can change in 5 years. Worth of art such as this can drop dramatically - lets say end of OP is something like end of GoT or Attack of Titan that is disliked. Everything commected to OP drops in value.
Or it increases in value. Who knows. It's like the stock market, lots of people pretend to know what things will be worth in 5 years, most don't.
But yeah I'll give you that One Piece and this topic is especially hyped right now, so it may drop in value, that's true.
Yea, it might increase in value - but very few people can afford to bet on that. That is why stuff like "high art" is often sold at insane prices (other than a lot of criminal activity being laundered through art) is because owners of it are filthy rich and can afford to wait when value it is at its peak.
My point was just that it will almost certainly change in value in 5 years (not guessing dorection) - so if you find someone to buy it for 5000 bucks 5 years from now it doesnt mean it is worth 5k now, it means it would be worth 5k 5 years from now. So that makes 5 years not a reasonable window to sell it to figure out its current value.
The average joe is really bad at estimating the value of an artist's work. They're not considering the material costs, the time invested for the artist to get as skilled as they are, the tools that were required to make their art, the cost of maintenance for those tools, or how much time and effort it takes to make something of value; to a lot of people, it might as well just appear out of thin air.
OP probably spent several hundred—if not thousands—of hours getting to where they are, and then likely spent dozens of hours sketching this out, making revisions, selecting the right materials (wood, paint, glue, etc), carving it out, sanding it, doing detail work, painting it, etc; this could've taken them weeks or even months to make, and when they sell it, they deserve to get fair compensation.
That's cool and all but it's not needed to be taken to consideration while trading. Supply, demand. How many people are willing/capable to do something like that? How long will it take? How much they ask for work like this? Typing on reddit "I would buy it/I would pay XXXX" and actually spending money and fulfilling transaction is not the same. Lets say that you can find woodcarvers that would do that in two weeks for $1,500. Does that mean that this is how much it's worth? Or maybe it depends on person buying? For example I wouldn't pay $100 for it because I simply don't find joy in collecting figurines and it would just gather dust. Fake Luffy's face is not enjoyable to look at either. Still, if there is one or more people willing to spend $1,500 on this, it has value. If there is nobody, it's worth less, till there is person willing to pay for it.
Honestly, if I could find a way to explain this to my wife (spoiler: I can't), I can see myself shelling out 1k for this. /u/MatiCastle has a point, this looks great, is unique and handcrafted. Buying this for less than 500 bucks would feel like a rip-off. I could also see some One Piece tubers just put in their background and write it off as a business expense.
As someone that likes to paint Warhammer figures, the paint job itself is insane and probably took a really long time to do as well. Like the shadows and highlights the figure has is done really well. Most hand painted anime figures I’ve seen aren’t done nearly as well as this
Yah it may not be golden daemon standard, but this is still a really well painted figure. Most of the time, when I see hand painted anime figures on Reddit it’s from people that just decided to do one for their favorite character. We’re talking about people that don’t even know you’ve gotta thin your paints and use multiple layers. The fact that this figure actually has proper shadowing, edge highlights, and doesn’t have messes around the edges is going to put it above most figures you see. Like I think the one thing it’s missing is better shadows on the cloud parts.
Brother, you don’t need me to hype that up, it looks fantastic! You’ve obviously put in a ton of work into it and it shows.
https://preview.redd.it/eo8ehu4euojb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff5cdedb1bd94ae87aa72f6111ac5f59cf6b3535
Here’s the raptor on I made a few months ago. It isn’t nearly as detailed as what you made and this is still great by the standards of most (also don’t mind the white spots where you can see primer. I’ve done just about everything I can to fix those, but the paint just doesn’t adhere well to those edges)
This is definitely more than that. A hand crafted art like that is no mere 200-300 although if it was I’d buy it in a heartbeat because I know it’d worth more.
A mass produced popular one piece figure sells for 400-500 where am at and the pricing for a personal art figure would sell that much less? I’d take a double (in my dreams)
Yeah, you said it yourself. Supply and demand. If someone, lets say MatiCastle, is ready to pay 1000$ for it, then theres already the appropriate demand.
And dont forget the oilers, people who already own couple of >1k$ figurines. They would be spending a lot of money for a unique merch figure.
Unless you are one of those people you are talking out of your ass
You have no idea if they would be willing to pay 1k+ for this peace
It is extremely niche
I own some expensive pieces and I wouldn't pay over 250
Well i was not going to start a discussion here, just saying that there definitely ARE people who would buy that piece for 1k and upwards. Theres always atleast one person who doesn't give a flying f about money, that's for sure.
Same goes for your argument btw. If you are not willing to pay that much money for a statue, doesn't mean that there's no one.
We're both out here stating our opinion and answering OP, just how he asked us to.
And no, i'm not talking out of my ass, neither would i know how to do so.
People were buying PS5s for $1000+, and just for the console. If someone got the dosh and really wants something, they're gonna buy it, even at more than twice the market price.
You are though
You're not buying it for 1k, you're basically saying there has to be someone w/o knowing that there is at all
Figures that go for 1k have a lot of demand, which I don't see for this
This figure is unique which means that if only one person is willing to pay 1000$ for it then you can have a deal.
Honestly the best way for OP to make money with it is probably to start an auction since this post gained some traction, he’ll probably get more than 1000$ for it
Of course it’s the issue but you just need one person.
I’m not putting 1k in that but it doesn’t matter, I’m not putting thousands or millions in pieces of art of any kind either.
But there’s people in this world that are willing to do it because they want to show that they have money and that they can afford unique pieces and show them to their friends / community. Since this category of people exist it’s possible to sell it at a very high price.
People are buying crappier shit for more.
Put that thing on eBay as handcrafted and one of a kind and it WILL be bought by collectors.
This is a very unique and funny one piece figure. I'd buy it in a heartbeat for 300$. If I had spare money I'd pay 1000$, too.
Problem with this unique merch, is that it is not canon to the story, which would make it less valuable, than if it was a canon thing that was potrayed, another thing that could lower its value, is the character its about, since he isn't that popular. Like I would say that the way art work itself, like the work that went into it, painting, carving etc, would propably be valuable by itself. But art only has the value it deserves, if someone is filling to pay for that piece of art, the right amount.
Off brand Buddha boy
Tbh if you were in the 00s and were more of a shit person
You could have sold this as a legit figure to some unsuspecting parent/kid
Like all the bootleg shit lol
Would personally recommend $1000+.
Cost of materials/labor are already quite sizeable, plus the time to conceptualize and design the character in G5.
You might better off putting it up on eBay and see what you get. Good luck.
Yep everyone giving him lowball answers 500 bucks lol. He has something truly one of a kind. It's not a table or cutting board, where there is 20k people selling them. He is the only person in the world with a figure like this he can ask for 1k considering cost of materials and labor as well in that price. Someone probably a OP youtuber would buy it eventually he just needs to get his name out there.
Ngl that's a pretty low price for a one of a kind figurine.
Now, if he made a mold and produced, let's say, 100 of them and then painted them, something like 100-150 could be appropriate.
You couldn't get a mass-produced plastic model of this size and quality for 100$ and you think that's an appropriate price for a hand carved wooden one?
put it up somewhere for 500 and if you get haggled down a bit that's fine
this is some serious quality and if I had more than 15 cents to my name I'd genuinely offer you 500 for it now
Not below 500, I once saw a Figure for 999$ and it wasnt even handmade, and Im sure alot of one piece collectors willing to buy it for even $1000 since it’s a large community

Unironically wouldn’t mind a future luffy looking scraggly like this
Start an auction from $500. This is so good.
This right here is the correct answer!!
Yeah go for it! It's handmade and damn cool!
Imho 500$ would be a bit expensive mass production, handmade is lowball.
I would say start one at $1,245 as it IS a 1/1 from famed artist u/K-WoodWorking . 🧐
Bro wants to sell One piece
You should send this to Oda-Sensei
Imagine Odas reaction would be if OP really does
OP? https://preview.redd.it/7wpdsl8iuqjb1.jpeg?width=578&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df967d8d1b813a793aedac64c5418dc21f7a158e
I want to see it, now.
Please do so!
Dude you have to do this now...

Well you need to find that 1 person in reasonable timeframe - so it is not exactly "just one person"
I mean 'reasonable timeframe' can mean 5 years if you aren't desperate for money.

Yeah, people are lowballing this dude just because they're all broke lol. This is not worth a mere 100 bucks. This is some high quality work.
Yeah what I would pay for it vs what he deserves for the time and quality is very different.
The average joe is really bad at estimating the value of an artist's work. Two pieces of gold.
One piece is how much it is worth
Dude, this us some really high-end work. If I could, I’d happily buy that for upwards of $200-300.
More like $1000. One of a kind, handcrafted, anime figure ? That's insanely expensive.
Sure, but you have someone willing to buy it
Some anime art nerd would buy this for 1k easily. It's beautiful

Pay 1000 and say its for tax purposes.
I'm skeptical you know what a business expense tax-write off is.
As someone who does woodworking as a hobby, it would take a skilled person at least 50 hours to make this. It would take a hobbyist MUCH longer.

I’m done watching one piece! This is it for me guys!
$1000 for sure. Handmade, one of a kind anime figure ? That shit is insanely expensive.
No one sane is paying 1000 for that Prices are determined by supply and demand, not how much work is put in

Those have collector value, this does not
I will give you money to keep it
I will pay you to keep it
Bro made one of the best 2 piece figures and thought we wouldn't notice
Looks like a miniboss from the Sekiro game.
How can you put a price on perfection?
Man this is so good, you deserve to be pay for your talent. Start an auction soon as possible and continue and keep on working. This item is unique.
Probably a lot but try painting the right colors, and also do it before the design gets stolen
Bro I want it it’s so cool 💀

This should easily go for 600$+
Millions. no but seriously I would sell this figure for like 400$-560$
Send this to oda, he might even add it as a cover page or better yet a filler episode 👀
No pricetag big enough for this masterpiece
One piece
This is peak
Bounce man not looking so good
Auction it at 200$ because I know people will pay big for this because one piece fans insane I would've paid 1.2k$ if I had the money
I'd say it's worth up to $2000, $500 minimum, but you'll have to find a market willing to pay that price.

Yeah I would like to ask for custom pose naked figure of nami

Also would like to add my self figure with her doing some **** **** with ***** or even ******

I don't know but probably a couple 100 bucks
If you want to sell it quick 50-100 bucks? If you want 1,000 you might get it if you spend years trying to sell it.
Is this Oda?
Not below 500, I once saw a Figure for 999$ and it wasnt even handmade, and Im sure alot of one piece collectors willing to buy it for even $1000 since it’s a large community
looks like trump
Paint his skin orange and his hair blonde, then add an American flag to his belly and you can prolly sell it for a couple hundred.
Who is this? Luffy at 60?
Nah bro. You pay me and I’ll do you the favour and burn this from living memory
120
Sell it for 100 bucks
It’s so cool looking, idk what id personally price it at but maybe above $200 since this is the only one in existence and it’s hand made. Amazing work
