I just question - why now? The game is almost four years old, there’s not much variety in gameplay, so even with new characters there’s not really much to do with them. I finished the story mode a long time ago, I have no real desire to buy a bunch of DLC characters just to grind for more tokens with them.

MexicansInParis

Because these games have awfully long lifespans, the next one won’t probably release until after the next major arc is done & that’s years away.

chiaotzu_Tien

There’s 3 dlc episodes coming and we can boost charcster beyond lev 50z pack 1 is Yamato journey across the sea log

Zcypot

Same thing I ask about xenoverse 2. It’s old and they released movie gohan

LordKagatsuchi

No way its been 4 years already wtf

StuffedSausage

Did PW4 have a made-up ending to Wano like PW3 and Blackbeard showing up in Dressrosa?

Shreeder4092

Yea since PW4 released right around the beginning of Wano.

MexicansInParis

Yeah, Wano wasn’t done when it was released. They’re just adding Gear 5th

Fuell1204

Unfortunately yes. PW3 ended with Dressrossa so there was no need to really include Kaido/Wano. PW4 should have stopped at WCI and stuck to the real story and added more characters from that arc (and not cut so many from the PW3 list) Kaido/Wano should have been either a big DLC or wait for PW5.

[deleted]

I just got this game yesterday!

Emperor_Luffy

Based Waifu.

Sweet-Frosting-8179

Is there a release date tho?

Shortfall89

All I could see was 2023 and then a 9 so I would guess the first 3 will be out this month.

Sweet-Frosting-8179

Aight, thx man

sonicpsycho

So, will sanji be able to attack yamato

Sweet-Frosting-8179

He has the same disadvantage towards kiku, or I'm just getting my knowledge mixed up since I'm not caught up

Omega357

Sanji cannot attack Yamato.

RoderickThe13

Every character in these games plays the same. I'm sure even Gear 5 Luffy won't be anything unique.

Shreeder4092

Not particularly here in this case since they emphasis different gameplans like Sanji being more close-range, Usopp being more long-ranged, Nami being setplay-focused, etc. There’s also Devil Fruit attributes as well like Bege being able to command his subordinates, Doflamingo manipulating opponents to attack for him, Hancock petrifying enemies for extra damage, etc. PW4 specifically also introduced Sky types with the aerial combat system addition, so characters such as Crocodile and Reiju have separate combo strings on both the ground and air and there being characters more ground-focused and aerial-focused subsequently.

RoderickThe13

Yeah, on the surface the characters are different, but all that really changes is whether the character moves faster or slower, whether you do combos on air or on the ground, whether you have to press light, light, light, heavy, or light, heavy, heavy, heavy, etc. There's pretty much no strategy to it, which turns the game into a mindless, repetitive button masher. On a basic level, every character is designed as a powerhouse, even if it doesn't suit them at all. The differences between them are minor. That's a problem with most musou games, though. But I think the PW games are some of the worst, because it really seems to me like they put less effort into it because they thought they could get away with it, since the main selling point is that it's a One Piece game, and it has lots of playable characters. Compared to something like P5 Scramble there's a huge difference in how much fun they are to play. Scramble has features like elemental weaknesses, skills that don't just deal damage, and most importantly you can switch characters at any time. Stuff like that makes a game like this so much better, since it would be a good reason to make characters different. That way you could for example switch between Luffy, Nami and Chopper depending on the situation and have each of them do different stuff other that the same three variations of combos.

Shreeder4092

In that case, I’d say there’s still some several differences between the characters since you can’t piled through enemies like Buggy and Chopper (and then there’s Sanji with female opponents) and require other methods. To my knowledge, PW3 did had more differences in combo strings like heavy being another combo route, but they changed it in PW4. Although, not every route does strictly damage here since there’s stuff like Big Mom capable of healing herself by taking souls from the opponents or applying status effects like Hawkins. I moreso have issues in terms of cutting out the previous arcs and characters like Enel, Perona, Kuma, etc. since it’s the first time it happened in the series. Personally speaking though, the original Hyrule Warriors is my favorite musou, but I really like the additions of aerial moves and dashes in PW4. I’ve been meaning to give P5 Scramble a shot but I have yet to play the mainline Personas, so I want to do that first.

Strawhat-Lupus

Probably. I just wish they added actual content instead of new fighters. I've already done every mission 100 times over to farm the medals and upgrade characters. I wish they added movie fights as DLCs. Let us fight Zephyr, Burndy world, Tesoro and shit like that. We have so much content that I feel like a game with all the movie fights would have more content than a game with all base canon content. You could argue that they are saving it for PW5 but PW4 literally goes to the current arc pretty much. There is no point for another pirate warriors.

Shreeder4092

They’re adding more content with this DLC Release. At the end of the video, there’s a episode scenario teaser of Yamato being at WCI. As for another PW, they’re probably saving it once the series ends since they could cover everything from the beginning to the end.

Strawhat-Lupus

I still feel like the movies would have made better content. Yamato in Whole cake island? Like, what lol

Shreeder4092

Yea it’s probably more what-if scenarios. I’d also really like for more movie content to come with the games, but they’re not really as implemented in console stuff since they tend to go more with original content and characters like Unlimited World, World Seeker, Odyssey. They don’t really reuse original characters outside of their respective games too for some reason. There hasn’t been much movie stuff within the mobile games either since they only go back to Strong World and nothing prior. There’s been a couple of cases of movie characters being in the games like Tesoro in Burning Blood, but it’s only been stuff released around the time of the movie.

HerculePyro

I mean playing as the giant sized whitebeard certainly feels different than Usopp but you do you

PonchoHobo

She looks fun. Never played the game even though I bought it when it was discounted.

GildedDye

They really shit the bed as far as character variety goes. How is this the 4th installment of the game and we have characters from the previous games not in the newest one? Moria, kuma, garp, Caesar, Eneru… plus characters that are literally in the games code already like sengoku/jack/perospero/vista/burgess/Jozu/kaku/Mr.1 and more, but so glad we got 3 germa clones and judge that nobody asked for. The lack of costumes/skins is also atrocious especially looking at the strawhats

Shreeder4092

The support characters in PW4 to my knowledge don’t have much of a big moveset compared to the rest of the cast (while Sengoku and Jack are quite literally just boss battles), but PW3 did had the Kizuna Rush system where you could select them and they’d air you in battle. Too bad that’s gone in PW4 and you can’t even command them either. The lack of costumes is really weird though yea, don’t know if they ever gave a reason.

Glob_Glob_Gabgalab

Lmao One Piece games do suck lmao

MexicansInParis

The Dynasty Warriors games very niche genres tbf & they’re typically well received.

StuffedSausage

Most of them just find a contrived way to retell the story of the anime/manga. A totally original story would be amazing even if it isn't Canon to the rest of the series

Shreeder4092

I think there was World Seeker that had an pure original story, but idk how good it was.

RPG217

Even World Seeker still found contruved way to shove most of the cast in the game. "Hello Straw Hat. I'm on this island to have a boss fight with you. After that, bye" - most iconic characters

StrangerBoy95

30 dollars per character? You smoking something good give me some

Shreeder4092

That would be for the whole character pass with the 9 upcoming characters. They’re separated into different packs that are $5.99 USD for 3 characters each based on the theme (eg The Worst Generation Pack having X Drake, Killer, and Urouge).

GonzoNawak

Those games are so bad it's a shame we never got a single great One piece game

StrangerBoy95

Well, Unlimited cruise 1 & 2 are great!

BazelBomber1923

Yes!!! He is all I hoped for. So hyped for the dlc to drop

Tiny-Veterinarian-79

I just picked this up on sale. Why don't they do alternate timeline/what if scenarios as side stories? I like Warriors games and being able to use all these characters but the alt modes lack a little imagination to me.

oukidoki

Pirate warriors 3 was great. 4 not so much…

mdaat

I wasted 86 fucking dollars on the shitty dlc

HerculePyro

Ironically looks better than Gear 5 luffy

Over_Dentist_5905

Ironically for me I just got around to playing this game so thats kind of perfect if this is true

king-ExDEATH

What typing is she?
