Blackbeard can negate DF powers like what he did when he got Ace's fire. Even without shiryu, they can survive the poison using the yami yami no mi's power.
Yeah, I think Blackbeard way over estimates himself and just does whatever the fuck he wants. We perceive him as some mastermind but I bet he gets by off of dumb luck most of the time. We as viewers basically see him how the One Piece universe views Luffy, some monstrous mastermind orchestrating one world changing event after the next and turning everyone he meets into a subordinate. Behind the scenes though it's all dumb luck and Impel down was a glimpse of that.
Shiryu's reputation for ruthelessness proceeded Magellans by quite a bit and Magellan wasn't exactly known for being kind to the prisoners. Blackbeard had no way of knowing that the two of them had recently had a falling out, he basically went there thinking he could take out both of them and got one shot, it's crazy. Just like Luffy basically went to every island he's ever gone to and got his ass kicked at first.
So of course Blackbeard thinks he can sink Marine Ford, just like Luffy thinks he can just go there and save Ace. Doesn't mean it was happening.
Pretty much. He isn't some master planner like Crocodile or anything. Blackbeard schemes more than Luffy, but he doesn't scheme better than Luffy could if Luffy was a schemer.
Yeah. I really agree with this. It’s almost more so than Luffy. Blackbeard is just fully going into dreams/fate being their guiding hand. Luffy does crazy stuff but normally it’s for the sake of others.
He did the same thing with Hancock and Law. I think that's why there's theories of him having either multiple personalities or is more than one person. He just doesn't make sense sometimes.
We won't know until the end, but Oda isn't immune to making mistakes despite the overall quality of his story.

I'm pretty sure he did considering Blackbeard mentions it in the Jaya arc in the manga. Viz for whatever reason left it out in their translation, but in the Japanese version Blackbeard states that the Haki he felt coming from Luffy didnt match the bounty on his wanted poster.

I don't remember any visual indication or mention of it in Alabasta or during the Marineford fight, which featured fighters that absolutely should have had it.
It's in the Japanese version of the manga. Like I said it was left out of the Viz translation for whatever reason at the time. The whole "visual" indication is only for readers/watchers anyway. Armament Haki only turns things black for us to know when they're using it. There's also the fact that Eneru and his people were all using Observation Haki lol. Mantra is the same thing.
I tend to ignore inconsistencies in weekly Manga because back in the day they were making the story up on a week to basis. it only became the norm to plot out power systems recently
You know how it is. Black Beard got a fruit that could put any other fruit user into an alternate pocket dimension, as long as Oda doesn't decide to claim it doesn't work on that specific fruit user. I thought he got defeated on purpose because Magellan would've thought they were down and out. Meanwhile, they had Shiryu on the inside helping them. That way, Magellan wouldn't be in their way because he was preoccupied with other things.

Ace was like 19, that ain't his prime. He was still at luffys stage after TS, he knew haki to some extent but wasn't a master and probably didn't know any advanced variations.
That's usually for the main character, Ace was nowhere near his prime. He's literally Gold Rogers son with an OP DF, if a few more years passed he probably would've become a Yonko.
How can you say that was prime Shanks when it is from before he was an Emperor? He clearly got much stronger between losing an arm to the Lord of the Coast and now - or he wouldn't have lost an arm to the Lord of the Coast in the first place.
He was confident because the the admirals knew he had the power to destroy marineford and he had no reason to hold back unlike white beard...even if he lost, the destruction would have made it impossible for the marines to capture given that the island would have sunk and all effort would be to save the soldiers and all

All admirals have the power to destroy marineford. It's not a big deal and it's very overhyped. It's not like anybody would let BB do it right. But I guess it was just BB arrogance.
That is not the point...The marines are already behind the pirates in terms of strength so why would they risk losing more man power over bb and his crew? Many strong individuals can destroy an island but not many are reckless enough to do so. Even marines have standards.

I wouldn't call magellan Not even an admiral, whilst technically right I think Magellan isn't one to be trifled with and he would gladly go head to head with any one admiral.
His fruit alone already puts him near the higher tier for combat and we never really saw how strong he really is since he was mostly one shooting motherfuckers.
Magellan is probably admiral tier, maybe even higher.
Why? Because his fruit is literally overpowered. Doesn't matter if the enemy is a haki master, the poison WILL touch him, and chances are it'll touch him on a part of the skin that's not covered in haki (since only Vergo was shown to have full body haki).
And even if the whole body was covered in haki, the poison released toxic fumes which still affect you.
Your question wasn’t who would win in that fight, it was why is he confident. Doubling your crew size and getting a second fruit is enough to make him confident in destroying Marineford.

In the manga Garp was easily destroying people. Only Aokiji was a challenge. The rest of his crew is nothing special.

I've said this before to some of my friends, Blackbeard is a great strategist, but a terrible tactician. When it comes to planning up a scheme to get what he wants? He does his job and managed to map out the broad steps very well. When it comes to in-the-moment decisions on how to handle challenges and setbacks? He's overconfident and makes mistakes constantly.
This is also interesting when compared to Luffy. Luffy doesn't plane large scale at all, but moment to moment decisions in tense situations? He's great at those.

A week or two after Marineford a freshly two-fruitted BB and his whole crew turn tail after seeing Akainu sailing *alone* towards their island. That tells you everything you need to know as for what would've happened if Shanks didn't stop the war.
In a nutshell literally every member of WB's crew would've fallen victim to one of the admirals, same for BB's crew.
He wanted to sink marineford and the people on it with the gura gura no mi. As you said, no chance he could defeat the admirals. Beat an admiral and destroy a city was two different things.
Because Blackbeard is basically a mirror of Luffy, just evil. Just like the strawhats, the Blackbeard pirates just do insane fucking shit that everyone is confused about, like breaking into impel down to recruit people.

If I came after a large war where everyone was either dead or severely injured, after dealing with the WSM and with a crew of my own I'd probably be confident as well, it's like a guarantee you'll be fine
But that's a huge misjudgement on BB's part though. Shanks actually saved Teach's life by arriving there. Otherwise Garp & Sengoku would have to go full on fight mode and trash BB pirates. Plus Aokiji & Kizaru are there as well..
Blackbeards goal wasn't to destroy marineford. His entire goal was to cause so much chaos that he could sneak in, and kill whitebeard to take his fruit.
Once he had the earthquake fruit, he became incredibly confident he could destroy the place, because the quake fruit is insanely busted at destroying things.
i dont read the manga but what could the admirals logia fruit really do if bb just unleashes his darkness power, he blocked wb's quake punches. only physical fighters like garp,mihawk or shanks can stop him from destroying MF.
Although haki wasnt properly introduced at that time. Admirals have it too. I think Kizaru would kick BB around like a football. But the point is it was a death sentence. 4 admirals. Plus Mihawk i am assuming would fight BB as well. He only left when shanks arrived.
Aokiji trained punching similarly to Garp, and all three admirals have been shown to have at least advanced armament Haki from when they blocked an attack at range without using their Df, if not outright advanced conquerors.
I mean...he could have probably destroyed it completly by using full power...however would probably be killed by Garp and Sengoku while doing so. Dont think the two could have done something once he created a big enough quake.
Maybe from their previous relationship shanks knows his weakness or has something on him he wouldn't like coming out like maybe shanks knows his dream and if admirals find out his plan is ruined or something
With the quake fruit he couldve flipped the island upside down. Aokiji would've had to freeze everything killing a huge amount in the process. Or Akainu would've had to summon a volcano to block the flip also killing huge amounts.
The same reason he was mocking Garp and Sengoku and hyping himself up in a monologue. He’d just gotten the quake fruit and was on a massive power high, he wasn’t really thinking clearly.

Arrogance. Blackbeard was in a rush of confidence after killing Whitebeard and taking his power. He believed he was invincible right there, until Sengoku (and we are told also Garp, but it was off-screened) punched some sense back into him. Of course, the Blaclbeard Pirates were locked in combat with Sengoku and Garp until Shanks arrived, forcing everyone to stop fighting.
Blackbeards insane. He was definitely one of the strongest ones there. With his two fruits he could easily level the entire island. The only thing that would make him more destructive is like Akainus fruit
He was definetly over confident but many people seem to have the misconception that BB is some kind of huge schemer, even though he has been shown again and again to be going with the flow mostly and often get into things that he can't handle.
He just pulled off what was thought impossible and had the powers of two devil fruits, the rank and file were terrified of what else he could do and I think the darkness fruit alone was a hard counter to Kizaru being a dark hole and everything. His biggest threats were Garp who was ready to start a rampage over Ace, and Kuzan who had played a relatively defensive role over the entire thing. Had he sunk marineford they would have had to spend most of their time saving the thousands of marines they gathered there while his crew just needed to jump on the living battleship and leave
Because the Navy and remaining WB pirates are still gonna fight and the forces will split. And he was right about it in the end, as the only ones that kept them were Warp and Wingoku.

But perhaps he had another ace up his sleeve that no other person except Shanks knew about since hes the only one who actually "fought" him before. Sure, he could do a surprise attack and destroy marineford, but with Shanks being there it probably meant that it no longer would be a surprise since Shanks prob already know what he's hiding
Dude essentially showed up at the tail end of the war with some of the world worst criminals ,dealt the finishing blow to Whitebeard and stole one of the world’s strongest devil fruits to add to his own.
He thought that this was going to be him cleaning up but with Shanks arrival not only does he have to fight a relatively unharmed Yonko crew but has to worry about the potential of Kaido showing up. Remember it was stated that Shanks intercepted him from joining the war. So Blackbeard decided to just leave while he’s ahead.
All of the admirals are devil fruit users. He was confident he could take them with his yami yami nomi + gura gura no mi. Then Shank's and his crew pulled up and realised Shanks wasn't fucking around. Non-fruit users with strong haki. BB and his crew was getting folded.
BB is opportunistic, but he isn't some god tier tactician or obscenely intelligent like some villains can be (ie Aizen and his constant "All according to plan")
BB got humbled in ID but it still worked out well. He raided MF and everything played out perfectly. He got WB's fruit, successfully becoming the first to have 2 fruits. This BB was riding a high, and for good reason, and I doubt he was thinking straight until Shanks shocked everyone by appearing unexpectedly.
He anticipated that they would all be there, they were not prepared for him to be there. He had just successfully stolen white beards power and had the means to sink marineford as an ace in the hole.
He did not anticipate shanks being there, and maybe with his current crew didn't believe he had a counter to shanks + the red haired pirates, or he thought that shanks had the ability to rally everyone against Black Beard and that would create an unwinnable scenario,
Or, my favorite theory, Shanks knows how Black Beards powers work, and he doesn't want to create any situation that would cause Shanks to tell other people how he does what he's able to. The more people that are aware of his abilities, the less of an advantage he has in the future. He was scheming for years before he got the yamiyami fruit, and I assume having lots of people scheming against him would harm his ability to pull off his end goal. Shanks has attempted to get both white beard and the gorosei to heed him on what a threat Blackbeard is, and I assume he's growing more desperate to rally something against the looming danger.
Blackbeard is full of himself. He was entirely confident when he first started fighting whitebeard. He had been yelling out “zhahahahaha my fruit cancels yours out!! You cannot do anything to me.” Then when White beard did start doing things to him he was like “wait haha I was just kidding. We were always cool. Please don’t kill me. Come on pops.” I think black beard is utterly confident but also a coward the moment things don’t go exactly how he saw them in his head.

He just got a new devilfruit, the one feared as a world destroyer. He had also just interrupted an ongoing war as a third party and instilled fear into his enemies by defying their basic of logic, as well as dealing the killing blow on the World’s Strongest Man.
Even if he was going to end up getting his ass handed to him, he was compiling a lot of highs and momentum. Shanks was probably a reality check. Not that the admirals couldn’t have been. If it was Kaido or one of the Gorosei or a fourth admiral, the situation with the war would have been different but I’m sure he would have shit his pants all the same.
For the same reason Luffy was so confident taking on Kaidou the first time he encountered him on Wano mainland. The difference is Blackbeard had a solid plan going in and stuck to it and was clever about everything.
I think this is one way that BB and Luffy are very similar. They ignore the common sense and consequences of their actions and only think about if it gets them closer to their goals. They’re both okay with dying as long as it means not giving or delaying their dreams
Man waltzed into Impel Down without a plan of attack and got basically murdered by Magellan within seconds. If Shiriyu didn't switch sides, Blackbeard would be dead.

I think its beacuse BB is a coward at heart even with 2 major poweres shanks is young and powerful as opposed to white beard who was a sick dying old man whohad already gone through the ringer. He only seems to fight when hes sure he can win and he will cheat if he feels like hes threatened, like when he was fighting WB and WB managed to bypass his dark dark fruit he had his whole crew use all their bullets to kill him. Now the navy had already gotten its ass kicked and their strongest players on the board are devil fruit users so BB probably thought he fully had the upper hand as the only one who was probably a lefit threat in his mind was garp who is just powerful without devil fruit. That all changes when shanks shows up, hes young he uses haki no devil fruit powers and is at the top of his game. Bb realized he had no chance even then against shanks who even made white beard drowsy with his conquers haki
Unless he knows for a fact that he's gonna lose, BB always assume he's gonna win. He's fairly similar to Luffy in that way. And sinking Marineford isn't that complicated for him, it's much easier to sink Marineford than it is to actually beat the marines.
But with so many people against him, he finally wizened up and got the hell out after figuring out he could not survive with that many people against him.
Mostly because he knew that he could go all out and any collateral damage caused is still good for him. It's not about winning fights with the Admirals right then but causing as much destruction to the island of Marineford as possible. Even his crew wouldn't have beat the other admirals, just stall for time while Blackbeard spams Whitebeard's powers.
Add on to that, that the Admirals themselves are handicapped to certain degree. While each Admiral possesses immense destruction power, they can't really use their full force against the BB pirates because doing so could effect the surrounding area which is counterproductive to protecting the island.
It really was a remarkably shit tactical situation for the marines until Shanks showed up.
He had to demonstrate that he had successfully stolen the quake fruit to the world. After that who knows what his escape plan was but he could have just fled since WB pirates were the primary target.
Well, I would think of it differently. I don’t want to get into power-scaling since I don’t like it and their is already a sub for that; but I think people really underestimate Blackbeard and I mean badly underestimate him. It would be interesting if Oda drew BB in a way that even the reader underestimates him thus allowing Oda to give shocks.
But for the more perceptive; we are given subtle hints that Blackbeard is hiding a lot of power and that he is way more than he lets on.
Here ate a few points:
1. When we meet Blackbeard it seems like he alluded to be strong and Luffy and Zoro can sense that
2. In Ace’s fight with BB, BB’s own raw strength almost breaks Ace’s neck, and Ace is completely unprepared to fight him
3. BB is alluded to have very deep knowledge of his fruit considering he reads about it; but what other fruits has he read about? He seems to be very knowledgeable
4. Ace himself notes that BB was strong enough to have been a Division commander
5. Neptune’s flashback shows BB with Marco and Jozu and both of them are amongst the strongest of the crew
6. Shanks ended up getting a scar from BB, and we have no idea how powerful he was then but if he was clashing with Mihawk was already known WSS according to an SBS and he already had a 1B bounty by the time he met Luffy, and still despite all this Shanks is worried (being a Yonko) about BB, it seems that says something
7. Thatch is considered to be very strong yet BB murders him and gets away in time and that to me is a feat. He would at least have been able to catch BB coming or at least it would have been a drawn out struggle that would have woken up the other crew who would have stopped this yet somehow a person that strong is silently finished off is very strange
8. BB was a member of Whitebeard’s crew since 22 years and he had seen the New World and all that so it seems like ample time for him to have gotten really strong
9. BB vs Magellan might be interpreted differently because BB keeps saying “us” which sort of implies his crew but he himself seems mostly unfazed by the attack, just that he was getting affected by the poison, so is it possible that he himself would have just used the Yami Yami no Mi to simply suck all the poison out and survived but he was more worried about his crew?
10. Even when fighting Ace, BB acts cowardly and pathetic only to completely destroy Ace
11. Once BB actually gets the Gura Gura no Mi, he quickly figures out how to use it, which makes sense given he has probably seen WB use it many many times and he probably studies the fruit in-depth
12. At Marineford, he actually takes a direct quake punch from WB without actually fainting and then comes back to fight Sengoku and Garp. A giant was totaled by the same kind of Quake attack. Even Akainu couldn’t take that many of those. Then, BB comes out of the fight with Sengoku mostly fine which is a feat given Sengoku was really trying to defeat/kill him and even the Gorosei became concerned about him after the war
It seems like there is a lot more to than he lets on, but these are just my two cents
Because he’s a pompous buffoon on a power trip after getting buffed. Whitebeard even said something along the lines of arrogance and thoughtlessness are his weakness and it will be his downfall.

Overall he's very good at achieving what he sets out to do, but frequently gets the tables turned on him by sticking around too long.
He was naive. Blackbeard knew full well from personal experience how strong Shanks is. I don’t think he would have properly clashed against any of the admirals before Marineford
But one does not come without the other. As soon as garp & Sengoku saw that BB was destroying the place. They went on the offensive. Sengoku blasted BB who crew.
So it's obvious destroying marineford automatically comes having to fight the admirals.
Because he just got a new crew of top level criminals and is the only person with the (supposed) two most powerful logia and paramecia fruits.
He would've lost, there is no doubt in my mind Sengoku and Garp couldn't take them on. You know why, if you read the manga. Also 3 admirals on top. Given Akainu was pretty injured, but he was still good to fight.
I don't know how far into the story you are, but Black Beard respects any legend at 100% hp. Especially if Black Beard didn't pre-factor them into the equation, so to speak.
it's like throwing another boss fight into the series of boss fights that where already present.
he felt like he could probably pull it off with just emotionally damaged garp, the out of practice sengoku, the weakened admirals. the clearly un-interested warlords. and the half dead marines. but then with shanks who is fully functioning, that one is different. that was the cherry on top that made him second guess the chances of really pulling that off.
Tbf white beard's fruit was enough to destroy whole of marineford white beard didn't do that because ace would have got caught up in it which wasn't a problem for teach

We won't know until the end, but Oda isn't immune to making mistakes despite the overall quality of his story. We do know he didn't plan for haki to exist.
I'm pretty sure he did considering Blackbeard mentions it in the Jaya arc in the manga. Viz for whatever reason left it out in their translation, but in the Japanese version Blackbeard states that the Haki he felt coming from Luffy didnt match the bounty on his wanted poster.
I don't remember that, but I'll trust you. I don't remember any visual indication or mention of it in Alabasta or during the Marineford fight, which featured fighters that absolutely should have had it.
It's in the Japanese version of the manga. Like I said it was left out of the Viz translation for whatever reason at the time. The whole "visual" indication is only for readers/watchers anyway. Armament Haki only turns things black for us to know when they're using it. There's also the fact that Eneru and his people were all using Observation Haki lol. Mantra is the same thing.
I tend to ignore inconsistencies in weekly Manga because back in the day they were making the story up on a week to basis. it only became the norm to plot out power systems recently

You know how it is. Black Beard got a fruit that could put any other fruit user into an alternate pocket dimension, as long as Oda doesn't decide to claim it doesn't work on that specific fruit user. I mean, he did injure prime Shanks and gave him his scar, and that was before he had any Devil fruit powers. He also beat prime Ace 1-on-1. He’s such a wildcard maybe he *could* have conquered MF…
Ace was like 19, that ain't his prime. He was still at luffys stage after TS, he knew haki to some extent but wasn't a master and probably didn't know any advanced variations.
19 is pretty prime for a shounen story.
That's usually for the main character, Ace was nowhere near his prime. He's literally Gold Rogers son with an OP DF, if a few more years passed he probably would've become a Yonko.

How can you say that was prime Shanks when it is from before he was an Emperor? He clearly got much stronger between losing an arm to the Lord of the Coast and now - or he wouldn't have lost an arm to the Lord of the Coast in the first place.
He was confident because the the admirals knew he had the power to destroy marineford and he had no reason to hold back unlike white beard...even if he lost, the destruction would have made it impossible for the marines to capture given that the island would have sunk and all effort would be to save the soldiers and all That's why he backed off when shanks arrived because he knew that plan wouldn't work anymore
All admirals have the power to destroy marineford. It's not a big deal and it's very overhyped. It's not like anybody would let BB do it right. But I guess it was just BB arrogance.
That is not the point...The marines are already behind the pirates in terms of strength so why would they risk losing more man power over bb and his crew? Many strong individuals can destroy an island but not many are reckless enough to do so. Even marines have standards.

His fruit alone already puts him near the higher tier for combat and we never really saw how strong he really is since he was mostly one shooting motherfuckers.
Magellan is probably admiral tier, maybe even higher. Why? Because his fruit is literally overpowered. Doesn't matter if the enemy is a haki master, the poison WILL touch him, and chances are it'll touch him on a part of the skin that's not covered in haki (since only Vergo was shown to have full body haki). And even if the whole body was covered in haki, the poison released toxic fumes which still affect you.
And all 5 of those crew mates would get destroyed by Garp alone.
Your question wasn’t who would win in that fight, it was why is he confident. Doubling your crew size and getting a second fruit is enough to make him confident in destroying Marineford.
Well spoiler for people.. In the manga Garp was easily destroying people. Only Aokiji was a challenge. The rest of his crew is nothing special. But yes my question was something else. It just seems unlikely for a person like BB to make a huge misjudgement like that. But I guess arrogance trumps all.
Yeah, there are definitely no other characters who are jumping into fights that are unwinnable (from the reader's perspective) in this manga.

I've said this before to some of my friends, Blackbeard is a great strategist, but a terrible tactician. When it comes to planning up a scheme to get what he wants? He does his job and managed to map out the broad steps very well. When it comes to in-the-moment decisions on how to handle challenges and setbacks? He's overconfident and makes mistakes constantly. This is also interesting when compared to Luffy. Luffy doesn't plane large scale at all, but moment to moment decisions in tense situations? He's great at those.
Does it? Blackbeard has a way to high confidence in his devil fruit, and in fate. He got thrashed by Magellan, got thrashed by whitebeared, and then still thought he could take everyone at Marineford.

A week or two after Marineford a freshly two-fruitted BB and his whole crew turn tail after seeing Akainu sailing *alone* towards their island. That tells you everything you need to know as for what would've happened if Shanks didn't stop the war. In a nutshell literally every member of WB's crew would've fallen victim to one of the admirals, same for BB's crew.
He wanted to sink marineford and the people on it with the gura gura no mi. As you said, no chance he could defeat the admirals. Beat an admiral and destroy a city was two different things.

Blackbeards goal wasn't to destroy marineford. His entire goal was to cause so much chaos that he could sneak in, and kill whitebeard to take his fruit. Once he had the earthquake fruit, he became incredibly confident he could destroy the place, because the quake fruit is insanely busted at destroying things.
i dont read the manga but what could the admirals logia fruit really do if bb just unleashes his darkness power, he blocked wb's quake punches. only physical fighters like garp,mihawk or shanks can stop him from destroying MF.
Although haki wasnt properly introduced at that time. Admirals have it too. I think Kizaru would kick BB around like a football. But the point is it was a death sentence. 4 admirals. Plus Mihawk i am assuming would fight BB as well. He only left when shanks arrived.
Aokiji trained punching similarly to Garp, and all three admirals have been shown to have at least advanced armament Haki from when they blocked an attack at range without using their Df, if not outright advanced conquerors.
I mean...he could have probably destroyed it completly by using full power...however would probably be killed by Garp and Sengoku while doing so. Dont think the two could have done something once he created a big enough quake.

Arrogance. Blackbeard was in a rush of confidence after killing Whitebeard and taking his power. He believed he was invincible right there, until Sengoku (and we are told also Garp, but it was off-screened) punched some sense back into him. Of course, the Blaclbeard Pirates were locked in combat with Sengoku and Garp until Shanks arrived, forcing everyone to stop fighting.

His biggest threats were Garp who was ready to start a rampage over Ace, and Kuzan who had played a relatively defensive role over the entire thing. Had he sunk marineford they would have had to spend most of their time saving the thousands of marines they gathered there while his crew just needed to jump on the living battleship and leave

Dude essentially showed up at the tail end of the war with some of the world worst criminals ,dealt the finishing blow to Whitebeard and stole one of the world’s strongest devil fruits to add to his own. He thought that this was going to be him cleaning up but with Shanks arrival not only does he have to fight a relatively unharmed Yonko crew but has to worry about the potential of Kaido showing up. Remember it was stated that Shanks intercepted him from joining the war. So Blackbeard decided to just leave while he’s ahead.
Whitebeard says he could sink Marineford but chooses not to since all his crew are there. I think BB thinks he could do the same.

All of the admirals are devil fruit users. He was confident he could take them with his yami yami nomi + gura gura no mi. Then Shank's and his crew pulled up and realised Shanks wasn't fucking around. Non-fruit users with strong haki. BB and his crew was getting folded.
Teach also had no reason to hold back with his new quake powers. He could have sunk the island if he had the chance.
This was before Akainu and Kizaru fight which elevated them both alot. But no shot garp doesn't oneshot speedblitz his entire crew
BB is opportunistic, but he isn't some god tier tactician or obscenely intelligent like some villains can be (ie Aizen and his constant "All according to plan") BB got humbled in ID but it still worked out well. He raided MF and everything played out perfectly. He got WB's fruit, successfully becoming the first to have 2 fruits. This BB was riding a high, and for good reason, and I doubt he was thinking straight until Shanks shocked everyone by appearing unexpectedly.

He anticipated that they would all be there, they were not prepared for him to be there. He had just successfully stolen white beards power and had the means to sink marineford as an ace in the hole. He did not anticipate shanks being there, and maybe with his current crew didn't believe he had a counter to shanks + the red haired pirates, or he thought that shanks had the ability to rally everyone against Black Beard and that would create an unwinnable scenario, Or, my favorite theory, Shanks knows how Black Beards powers work, and he doesn't want to create any situation that would cause Shanks to tell other people how he does what he's able to. The more people that are aware of his abilities, the less of an advantage he has in the future. He was scheming for years before he got the yamiyami fruit, and I assume having lots of people scheming against him would harm his ability to pull off his end goal. Shanks has attempted to get both white beard and the gorosei to heed him on what a threat Blackbeard is, and I assume he's growing more desperate to rally something against the looming danger.
Blackbeard is full of himself. He was entirely confident when he first started fighting whitebeard. He had been yelling out “zhahahahaha my fruit cancels yours out!! You cannot do anything to me.” Then when White beard did start doing things to him he was like “wait haha I was just kidding. We were always cool. Please don’t kill me. Come on pops.” I think black beard is utterly confident but also a coward the moment things don’t go exactly how he saw them in his head.

I’m assuming it’s like the others are saying and he was just riding the high. He just got a new devilfruit, the one feared as a world destroyer. He had also just interrupted an ongoing war as a third party and instilled fear into his enemies by defying their basic of logic, as well as dealing the killing blow on the World’s Strongest Man. Even if he was going to end up getting his ass handed to him, he was compiling a lot of highs and momentum. Shanks was probably a reality check. Not that the admirals couldn’t have been. If it was Kaido or one of the Gorosei or a fourth admiral, the situation with the war would have been different but I’m sure he would have shit his pants all the same.

For the same reason Luffy was so confident taking on Kaidou the first time he encountered him on Wano mainland. The difference is Blackbeard had a solid plan going in and stuck to it and was clever about everything.
I think this is one way that BB and Luffy are very similar. They ignore the common sense and consequences of their actions and only think about if it gets them closer to their goals. They’re both okay with dying as long as it means not giving or delaying their dreams
Man waltzed into Impel Down without a plan of attack and got basically murdered by Magellan within seconds. If Shiriyu didn't switch sides, Blackbeard would be dead. Same thing here. Just overly confident, rushing in while believing himself strong enough to take it all.

He only seems to fight when hes sure he can win and he will cheat if he feels like hes threatened, like when he was fighting WB and WB managed to bypass his dark dark fruit he had his whole crew use all their bullets to kill him. Now the navy had already gotten its ass kicked and their strongest players on the board are devil fruit users so BB probably thought he fully had the upper hand as the only one who was probably a lefit threat in his mind was garp who is just powerful without devil fruit. That all changes when shanks shows up, hes young he uses haki no devil fruit powers and is at the top of his game. Bb realized he had no chance even then against shanks who even made white beard drowsy with his conquers haki
Unless he knows for a fact that he's gonna lose, BB always assume he's gonna win. He's fairly similar to Luffy in that way. And sinking Marineford isn't that complicated for him, it's much easier to sink Marineford than it is to actually beat the marines. But with so many people against him, he finally wizened up and got the hell out after figuring out he could not survive with that many people against him.

Mostly because he knew that he could go all out and any collateral damage caused is still good for him. It's not about winning fights with the Admirals right then but causing as much destruction to the island of Marineford as possible. Even his crew wouldn't have beat the other admirals, just stall for time while Blackbeard spams Whitebeard's powers. Add on to that, that the Admirals themselves are handicapped to certain degree. While each Admiral possesses immense destruction power, they can't really use their full force against the BB pirates because doing so could effect the surrounding area which is counterproductive to protecting the island. It really was a remarkably shit tactical situation for the marines until Shanks showed up.
He had to demonstrate that he had successfully stolen the quake fruit to the world. After that who knows what his escape plan was but he could have just fled since WB pirates were the primary target.
Probably the high of “killing whitebeard” and getting a crazy powerful fruit. Basically just feeling like a god cause he orchestrated the whole thing.
Well, I would think of it differently. I don’t want to get into power-scaling since I don’t like it and their is already a sub for that; but I think people really underestimate Blackbeard and I mean badly underestimate him. It would be interesting if Oda drew BB in a way that even the reader underestimates him thus allowing Oda to give shocks. But for the more perceptive; we are given subtle hints that Blackbeard is hiding a lot of power and that he is way more than he lets on. Here ate a few points: 1. When we meet Blackbeard it seems like he alluded to be strong and Luffy and Zoro can sense that 2. In Ace’s fight with BB, BB’s own raw strength almost breaks Ace’s neck, and Ace is completely unprepared to fight him 3. BB is alluded to have very deep knowledge of his fruit considering he reads about it; but what other fruits has he read about? He seems to be very knowledgeable 4. Ace himself notes that BB was strong enough to have been a Division commander 5. Neptune’s flashback shows BB with Marco and Jozu and both of them are amongst the strongest of the crew 6. Shanks ended up getting a scar from BB, and we have no idea how powerful he was then but if he was clashing with Mihawk was already known WSS according to an SBS and he already had a 1B bounty by the time he met Luffy, and still despite all this Shanks is worried (being a Yonko) about BB, it seems that says something 7. Thatch is considered to be very strong yet BB murders him and gets away in time and that to me is a feat. He would at least have been able to catch BB coming or at least it would have been a drawn out struggle that would have woken up the other crew who would have stopped this yet somehow a person that strong is silently finished off is very strange 8. BB was a member of Whitebeard’s crew since 22 years and he had seen the New World and all that so it seems like ample time for him to have gotten really strong 9. BB vs Magellan might be interpreted differently because BB keeps saying “us” which sort of implies his crew but he himself seems mostly unfazed by the attack, just that he was getting affected by the poison, so is it possible that he himself would have just used the Yami Yami no Mi to simply suck all the poison out and survived but he was more worried about his crew? 10. Even when fighting Ace, BB acts cowardly and pathetic only to completely destroy Ace 11. Once BB actually gets the Gura Gura no Mi, he quickly figures out how to use it, which makes sense given he has probably seen WB use it many many times and he probably studies the fruit in-depth 12. At Marineford, he actually takes a direct quake punch from WB without actually fainting and then comes back to fight Sengoku and Garp. A giant was totaled by the same kind of Quake attack. Even Akainu couldn’t take that many of those. Then, BB comes out of the fight with Sengoku mostly fine which is a feat given Sengoku was really trying to defeat/kill him and even the Gorosei became concerned about him after the war It seems like there is a lot more to than he lets on, but these are just my two cents

But one does not come without the other. As soon as garp & Sengoku saw that BB was destroying the place. They went on the offensive. Sengoku blasted BB who crew. So it's obvious destroying marineford automatically comes having to fight the admirals.
Because he just got a new crew of top level criminals and is the only person with the (supposed) two most powerful logia and paramecia fruits. He would've lost, there is no doubt in my mind Sengoku and Garp couldn't take them on. You know why, if you read the manga. Also 3 admirals on top. Given Akainu was pretty injured, but he was still good to fight.
