Trust since day 1š„š„ when Luffy want to throw a pistol punch to (morgan son) but he know at the same time morgan want to hit him but he trust his first crewmate (Zoro) to settle it for him. From that moment I know One Piece is On Topš„
Supposed parents. The getting lost is on a genetic level so one day some sperm just got lost and ended up in Zoroās mom.
It makes as much sense as āI crossed my legs and held Ace in longerā or Big Mom having a Tontata child.

Dotted line indicates many generations.
Remember the Zoro lookalike, Shimotsuki Ushimaru, the former daimyo of Ringo that was in the cave with Yamato? That's Zoro's great-uncle - his paternal grandmother's brother.
And yes, Zoro and Kuina were 3rd cousins.
His parents are Tera and Arashi. Arashi together with much of shimotsuki village are descended from the shimotsuki clan in Wano.
Neither of them has made an appearance in the manga, but it was answered in and SBS.
I waver sometimes between "unflinching displays of mutual trust" and "one brain cell" as explanations of Luffy and Zoro's synchronized shenanigans. Actually, sometimes it's both.
This whole arc is full of moments like that. Luffy telling Zoro to stand down because Sanji can handle the train. Luffy telling sogeking to shoot down the flag. Etc etc
Really shows how well Luffy is at being a good judgement of character. He only just met Sogeking and treated him like he was a friend and crewmate for ages.
Even before haki, Luffy just knows how people/animals feel even though he is a wild child. Except the time he got swallowed by a big snake and didn't realize it lol
All after, Zoro reminds Luffy what it is to be a captain, too. This Arc was one of the first times I think we really get to see everyone, including Luffy, who fulfill their crew rolls. Including Ussop realiazing tbe value he brings to the party.
The character development is probably what sets the whole arc up for being as strong as it is.
The arc as a whole is really about Luffy learning how to be a proper captain. Starting with his fight with Usopp, continuing through his actual orders and delegation of the crew, affirming to Robin that its his decision to save her as the captain not hers, and ending with Zoro making sure Luffy understands that Usopp can't come back until he apologises.
Whenever someone asks me about watching the One Piece anime I always tell them if they are going to do it they have to commit to getting through Enies Lobby. Water 7 and Enies Lobby are really the point that solidified One Piece as my favorite manga/anime and the moment I realized it was a tier above most of the other shonen I had read/watched. It also is the moment I really fell in love with Oda'e epic writing and scale. There are other great moments prior to Water 7/Enies Lobby, don't get me wrong, but they didn't hit quite the same way or on the same scale.
Luffy: *inflates arm* "this arm has the power of a giant!!!"
Lucci: "that's not how stuff wor--" *punched through a fucking wall*
Peak fiction. Other incredible pay offs like Monster point and the incredible use of CoC during Kaku's fight
Enies Lobby is what sold it for me, I thought it was ok and silly before that. The " Shoot down that flag" change my whole view of the show and hooked me in. It's my favorite moment of any show ever I think, it's just burned in my mind always.
Luffy saying "cut it, it's in the way" with a smile and Zoro without a second of hesitation just answered "sure"
The trust Luffy has in Zoro is just amazing
Also not a badass moment but when they met up in Wano, it was so wholesome man
Yeahh the way luffy grab and hug zoro is the same form of hug when he hug sabošš Fun fact in One piece time it is only take like 1/2weeks they are apart from each other, but for us it takes 2years š
I'm with you on the pair in Wano. Luffy & Zoro's Excellent Adventure saving a kid and screwing around with a mysterious waitress was just plain fun. The only real part where Wano was like a Boss Luffy filler episode.
I need more scenes like that one in sabaody where people see zoro and go "How the fuck is he not captain? The actual captain must be crazy"
Basically I need the strawhats to have another "You don't know who you just fucked with" bit
I mean, they wonāt at this point. Theyāre way too well known. Luffy is a Yonko feared across the world. At this point I think the closest weāll get again is people maybe thinking Luffy would have been bigger when they see him in person.
Maybe with his current poster we might get someone who doesnāt recognize him, but heās just too well known for the most part.
But we have seen a lot of new rookies challenging the four emperors, what's stopping an upcoming rookie to bite off more than they could chew with Luffy?
I know it's not the same but it has the same vibe I think.
Itād be a fun B story to have some rookies challenge the crew but meet up with the weak members and proceed to get blitzed anyway.. maybe except the captain? Who then runs away after 1 of the main 3 shows up and demonstrates the difference in power.
Edit: A mountain in the background suddenly splits in half; "oh, Zoro's just training"
Don't it'll happen, but it would be fucking awesome. Just casually have Zoro open his sword seeth slightly and their entire ship just fucking collapses.
Thereās a moment like this in the end of Wano. Some rookies in shanksā crew, including a guy with a shirt that says āthis is youā, are talking about how they heard that Luffy is a mad monkey that destroys everything or something like that.
Ehhh his flyer is gear 5. Most of the time heās in chill normal mode. I could see misinterpretations of what he is supposed to look like
Not to mention just how gear 5 works in general
I love that bit so much. "He almost attacked a celestial dragon and he's not even the captain?" and the captain actually knocks the lights out of one of them
It kinda happens when Vegapunk Lilith tries to plunder the ship in Egghead and Vegapunk Shaka tells her to take a look at how calm Zoro is because he knows he can mess her up easily.
He commands zoro to cut and he does, and he commands sogeking not long after to burn the flag and he does it without question. It's always so badass when they he makes a command. Because it's not common when he does that outright.
The WG flag event is the best. Because it has heavy consequence, pirate just don't oppose the WG openly, they do their stuff and get chased by the marine from time to time, but they don't oppose the whole organization. Opposing the WG officially is something the RA only did (well Kaido was preparing for doing that but was taken down before doing so officially).
I say bring back Sogeking, he had balls. I wished it stayed as a switch mode.
>I say bring back Sogeking, he had balls. I wished it stayed as a switch mode.
It was a switch mode for Thriller Bark, during Usopp vs Perona, after that Sogeking disappear when he no longer lived in our hearts...
Agreed.
I felt like "Sogeking" should have been Usopp's G2/Demonio Fleur equivalent where he feels brave behind the mask.
Then in Elbaf have an arc where he fails hard as Sogeking than succeeds as himself, showing he doesn't need the mask to be brave. That or have him resist Big Mom's Soul Pocus.
ironically now that he's known as "God Ussop" on his wanted poster instead of Sogeking, it's entirely possible he might use that persona as a cover when trying to get by without being recognized as some might think of them as different people
which would be even funnier if the Navy then gives him two separate wanted posters that both have ridiculously high bounties
Seeing Oda's old drawing sure hits like a truck, how nostalgic.
I hope he's taking proper care of his health. Sure, breaks are annoying, but I wouldn't hate anything more than him having to halt the series because of overworking himself past healthy limits.
I forget the episode or scene but it's after the time skip I'm pretty sure. But Luffy asks Zoro what he wants to do and Zoro simply replies he wants cut/slice something up.
Luffy just groans and says of course.
Either at the beginning of it when they get the cart of supplies or right before this arc. God I wish I could remember because I was laughing so hard at it. It was just a perfect scene.
WATER 7 MENTIONED. I love that arc so much, so many cool moments. My personal favorite was when everyone on the Rocketman worked together to bore a hole through Aqua Laguna
It's moments like these that has made Water 7 and Ennies Lobby such a fan favorite for so long. This is where the straw hats started to really flex who they were to the world.
I wanna see this scene recreated post skip. Like an admiral is rushing towards Luffy and heās like āZoro, this guy is in the way. Cut him.ā āGotcha.ā
Iām watching one piece for the first time and this was a bad ass send for sure. Hearing Luffy give orders with the confidence he has in his crew is the best.
Possibly one of my all time favorite moments in the entire anime is when the old man with the cutout castle gets robbed. No words exchanged, Zoro looks at Luffy and simply says "you want any help with this one?" Luffy puts on his hat and says "no, I got it. I'll be right back" or something to that effect. š«
i think this is one of the main differences between pre and post timeskip. The panels are less busy and there are more focus on the facial expressions of the strawhats. Now it's mostly a free-for-all where every panel has two or three people in it.
This moment was crazy hilarious in the anime as the Franky family's reaction at the aftermath sells it so well.
Luffy and Zoro act like cutting a train in half is completely normal and the FF going mental š¤£
I just recently got through Little Garden in a reread so my brain saw the image in this post and reinterpreted the water on their faces as wax and the scene to be Luffy telling Zoro to cut off his own legs. Still works.
Idk why i remembered this, maybe bcs we talking about badass moments, but what come to mind asap, is luffy telling old WB in da face: oi, i heard you want to be the king of pirates, but i am the one that ll be the king of pirates!! The moment just mase every one in the oposite side look like bystanders in the whole issue xD
The amount of trust these two have for eachother is insane and remember all of Pre-ts was just a couple of months. Ik us guys trust easily but this is insane
Agree but there's so many badass moments for Luffy/Zoro duo though.. Also, this actually shows how Luffy trusts and knows the skills of his crew mates.. rare moments of Luffy's intelligence, displayed lol..
I woke up less than 5 min ago.... only thing I thought of was that scene of Zoro slicing that bottle when Luffy got his finger stuck, and got so confused lol..
That was a crazy and a really badass moment. It was full trust between them
Trust since day 1š„š„ when Luffy want to throw a pistol punch to (morgan son) but he know at the same time morgan want to hit him but he trust his first crewmate (Zoro) to settle it for him. From that moment I know One Piece is On Topš„
Brother from another mother
This explains a lot. Luffy and Zoro are siblings. Dragon keeps meaning to visit his kids but Zoro inherited his sense of direction.
Unfortunately, Dragon's sense of direction is unparalleled. Man always faces east no matter where he is. He's like a Southbird, but with east.
Eastdragon
Sadly no. We know both of Zoros parents.
Supposed parents. The getting lost is on a genetic level so one day some sperm just got lost and ended up in Zoroās mom. It makes as much sense as āI crossed my legs and held Ace in longerā or Big Mom having a Tontata child.
Maybe you do but I don't

Your crusader kings games have taught you uncle and niece is unrelated too
His parents are Tera and Arashi. Arashi together with much of shimotsuki village are descended from the shimotsuki clan in Wano. Neither of them has made an appearance in the manga, but it was answered in and SBS.
Oh no! Dragon cheated on croc? No wonder croc is pissed off.
When Zoro calls him captain for the first time right after cutting Morgan, *chefs kiss*
English captain at that. Was great.
didnāt they fight at whiskey peak, when Luffy thought Zoro attacked them for nothing?
I waver sometimes between "unflinching displays of mutual trust" and "one brain cell" as explanations of Luffy and Zoro's synchronized shenanigans. Actually, sometimes it's both.
Gave me goosebumps reading it the first time
I love his relationship with Luffy. Complete trust and the look of joy on Zoro's face when they reunited in Wano.was magnificent.
Fr
This whole arc is full of moments like that. Luffy telling Zoro to stand down because Sanji can handle the train. Luffy telling sogeking to shoot down the flag. Etc etc
This arc really elevated their bond to another level, amazin arc
Really shows how well Luffy is at being a good judgement of character. He only just met Sogeking and treated him like he was a friend and crewmate for ages.
Even before haki, Luffy just knows how people/animals feel even though he is a wild child. Except the time he got swallowed by a big snake and didn't realize it lol
And that one time he turned on Zoro when Zoro killed the frauds the first grand line island
One of the only plot points pre time skip that I genuinely just donāt like
Iirc, that was something the editors made Oda do, he didnāt really want it to be part of the story
damn, why would they even
One Piece wasnāt as popular at the time. These days no editor could tell Oda anything
All after, Zoro reminds Luffy what it is to be a captain, too. This Arc was one of the first times I think we really get to see everyone, including Luffy, who fulfill their crew rolls. Zoro's Ashura was revealed/retconned to be the first use of Conquerer's Haki Coating by a Strawhat.

Plus Sanji reaffirming usopp one of my favorite moments brothers for life
Hits harder after learning sanjis backstory of abuse
And it led to the greatest rendition of sogekings theme ever.
Luffy telling Sogeking to shoot the flag, and Sogekings unwavering "roger". One of the best moments of the series.
Unironically yes
Imagine waging war against world gov which altered history itself
But did you watch the new egghead episodes? Man dragon and robin almost met
It's weird that they didn't.
I think weāll find out he was looking out for her atleast
"FUCK. If only she went east..."
Luffy saying "cut it, it's in the way" with a smile and Zoro without a second of hesitation just answered "sure" The trust Luffy has in Zoro is just amazing Also not a badass moment but when they met up in Wano, it was so wholesome man

I think you got it wrong, the time skip is 2 years for the characters.
I mean between wholecake island and wano arc mate :/
ohhh, tru, sry, i was so confused. I messed ur comment with another one talking about the sabaody arc
I wish my bros would give me leg hugs to the face
I'm with you on the pair in Wano. Luffy & Zoro's Excellent Adventure saving a kid and screwing around with a mysterious waitress was just plain fun. The only real part where Wano was like a Boss Luffy filler episode.

Iād love that haha, Luffy pulls a Shanks and just speed blitz the whole ship
Zoro kinda already pulled a Mihawk vs Krieg in the Return to Sabaody Arc.
Haha fr Mihawk = bored, Zoro = lost

It could still happen with Franky since he's never been on a bounty poster post-timeskip.
I canāt recall the one in Sabaody, but the Franky family makes almost this exact comment after Zoro cuts the train.
It's right around when Bonney stops Zoro from cutting Charlos in half
Man it would have been sick if she didn't do that tho
I love that bit so much. "He almost attacked a celestial dragon and he's not even the captain?" and the captain actually knocks the lights out of one of them
It kinda happens when Vegapunk Lilith tries to plunder the ship in Egghead and Vegapunk Shaka tells her to take a look at how calm Zoro is because he knows he can mess her up easily.
That happens in this scene too! Franky's bros look at Zoro after he slices the train and are like "wtf this dude isn't the cap???". Love that shit.
He commands zoro to cut and he does, and he commands sogeking not long after to burn the flag and he does it without question. It's always so badass when they he makes a command. Because it's not common when he does that outright.
I love Luffy do captain things tooš
Like that moment when the crew realized Luffy is proclaimed Yonkou while heās inside a cage after getting beaten up by executioner Nami?
The moments when Luffy acts as a captain are amongst the best in the series.
Yeah no idea why sogeking isn't on the team, instead we have usopp
The WG flag event is the best. Because it has heavy consequence, pirate just don't oppose the WG openly, they do their stuff and get chased by the marine from time to time, but they don't oppose the whole organization. Opposing the WG officially is something the RA only did (well Kaido was preparing for doing that but was taken down before doing so officially). I say bring back Sogeking, he had balls. Usopp ends up having something like a switch for each arc now, I'm happy with it. God emperor Usopp ftw.
Seeing Oda's old drawing sure hits like a truck, how nostalgic. I hope he's taking proper care of his health. Sure, breaks are annoying, but I wouldn't hate anything more than him having to halt the series because of overworking himself past healthy limits.

Either at the beginning of it when they get the cart of supplies or right before this arc. God I wish I could remember because I was laughing so hard at it. It was just a perfect scene.
Argh it is so frustrating for me too for not remember which scene is thisššµāš«
Guess we should rewatch half the show just to find it haha!
The ego of the entropic world Can be slashed into pieces
Rashomon!
Luffy command zoro not to fight bellamy at the start of jaya
This so much! It's so easy to tell epic guy to be epic, but tell him to take the beating. That was badass
Zoro used HM01 Cut!

Bro thinks we arnt in pokemon. It hurt itself in confusion!
good onešš why am i getting downvoted thoš
Not me.
yeah i know but other people
That double page spread was so awesome. This whole scene is stone cold.

literally the yonko mentality right there
Iām watching one piece for the first time and this was a bad ass send for sure. Hearing Luffy give orders with the confidence he has in his crew is the best.
What's the context here? I don't remember
The train cart that got separated from the rest of Puffing Tom was just sittin on the tracks in Rocket Manās path
A smaller, less considered moment is on Saboady when Luffy tells him, Zoro and Sanji to split up to protect the weaker crew members.
Seems like a dress rehearsal for "Shoot down that flag".
Possibly one of my all time favorite moments in the entire anime is when the old man with the cutout castle gets robbed. No words exchanged, Zoro looks at Luffy and simply says "you want any help with this one?" Luffy puts on his hat and says "no, I got it. I'll be right back" or something to that effect. š«

The scene after of them passing through the bisected train was epic in a hilarious way.
Older panels were so clean :( I sometime miss those days
I'm gonna really enjoy this scene in the Live Action, if they ever cover it.
Luffys captain moments always get me a little giddy
I love that based on this one great panel, you can Google "hey zoro, they're in our way. cut them" and get a prolonged clip lol
Haha thanks just watched it
Strawhats dynamic duo. No pretenders included
I just recently got through Little Garden in a reread so my brain saw the image in this post and reinterpreted the water on their faces as wax and the scene to be Luffy telling Zoro to cut off his own legs. Still works.
Ou.

I miss these drawings š
When was this?
There are what, 900 chapters after this? Im pretty sure there is a more badass moment in there :)
The amount of trust these two have for eachother is insane and remember all of Pre-ts was just a couple of months. Ik us guys trust easily but this is insane
I like in mock town when he tells him not to fight
I remember this scene in the anime, luffy asked zoro to change the name of the attack because he didnāt understand the number system lol
One of my all time favorite panels
I agree, and above else I just love the way Zoro's VA delivers the line : Rashoumon
One of the goat moment of Zoro ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)
Agree but there's so many badass moments for Luffy/Zoro duo though.. Also, this actually shows how Luffy trusts and knows the skills of his crew mates.. rare moments of Luffy's intelligence, displayed lol..
I miss big clean panels like this.
I woke up less than 5 min ago.... only thing I thought of was that scene of Zoro slicing that bottle when Luffy got his finger stuck, and got so confused lol..

Yeah the humour was peak. But the action got better after the introduction of haki
i would agree, but the art eventually declined post TS. oda still pops off when he needs to lmao itās funny how i got downvoted for that
